This is a basic technical review of the Patriot SuperSonic Rage 2 (128GB variant)Real capacity (after exFat format): 117GBNote that the model I received from the seller "GadgetLifestyle" had a more muted black and white look for the writing than the advertised pictures. I'm not complaining.--Write speeds from personal use --Hardware: NVMe M.2 SSD PCIe Gen3,35GB UHD HDR mkv file from hard drive: ~ 90 MB/s2.5 GB mp4 from hard drive ~ 40 MB/s2.5 GB mp4 from SSD 273 MB/s-- Benchmark --the benchmark obtained on my system can be found here: http://usbflashspeed.com/335612:To summarise the tested speeds areRead: 286.36 MB/sWrite: 356.06 MB/sIn practice you will get much slower speeds, but definitely faster than regular USB sticks or MicroSD cards.~~ Conclusion ~~for the £37 I spent for it, it is perfectly capable, compact and practical. better than all but a few MicroSD cards, great for quickly copying large files such as movies across to one's TV. It's still slower than an external SSD, but it is generally more portable. In stick form, you may get better performance from the Sandisk Extreme or Corsair Voyager ranges. Expect to pay double the price however, and you may only see a real improvement when copying FROM an already fast storage such as an SSD.NOTE: to take advantage of these speeds you must:- be copying FROM a fast storage medium such as an SSD- be using a USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 is dead slow- be copying few large files rather than many small ones i.e. >100MB.

I have had several 'sticks' over the years and found this one to be the fastest yet for uploading speed. I regularly get an upload speed of 240mb per second with this stick, though this will depend on the type of files you upload. Lots of small files (pictures etc.) might be slower to upload than one huge file, say a film or tv programme. On formatting, the available size you get on the stick drops to around 230Gb. This drop in usable size is normal for any stick, no matter what make it is. The amount of drop will depend on the size of stick of course. Some files will upload with a big fluctuation in speed I find (40mb - 120mb per second) and the green progress graph will have a saw tooth appearance to it,but this does depend on the type of file so is a bit hit or miss really.I do recommend this stick for use overall and wouldn't go back too my smaller ones of half the capacity or less for storage. The current price of £40 is also reasonable for the size you get, along with the fast upload speed. My "best" older stick has an upload speed of around 180mb per second and is half the size at 115GB of storage ( a Supersonic Rage 2 128GB)

Whilst I don't have any USB 3 ports in my current PC, hence I don't really know how well this USB flash drive performs in its optimum environment, it does perform quite nicely in a USB 2 port, so it's a good future-proof purchase anyway.Pros:* The rubber exterior both looks good and seems substantial enough that you'd likely struggle to break this USB flash drive if you tried.* The capacity and performance seem good for the price.* The cap protects the USB connector from dust etc.* It has a hole in the top, so you can put it on a keyring.Cons:* The cap is easy to misplace, although you can put it on the other end, if it's not attached to a keyring.* Over USB 2,I see write speeds of about 22MB/sec and read speeds of about 34MB/sec, when transferring large files. I thought the speeds might be a bit higher, but perhaps I was just optimistic about what USB 2 can do.

Either way, it's still the biggest and fastest USB flash drive I own.

I bought this with 4 other big brand drives to do a comparison on my YouTube channel. This is a capless USB stick, you just slide the body to reveal the port. Patriot is a well known memory company known for it's performance products and this doesn't disappoint. The read speed is quite amazing hitting over 200 MB/s, write speed is good too but not the fastest - not something to worry about though. Capacity wise you're getting a little less than the full amount but fairly standard nowadays. It's USB 3.1 but is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0. I paid a little more than average for this but I think it's worth every penny - definitely one for the kit bag.If you have found this review helpful, please let me know by hitting the “helpful” button! or if you have any questions then feel free to ask :)

It's a decent piece of hardware. Good write speeds however not as fast as advertised.Using a USB 3.0 port, transfering 1 large 35GB MKV file, im getting between 78-95MB/s . That's not bad, in fact, it's better than most usb sticks. However it's quite a long way off 200MB/s write speed advertised. I know they'll probably say that's for USB3.1, but i think USB3.0 should've been able to pull more than maximum 100MB/s....Overall, it's a good piece of kit, if i was getting 150MB/S write speed, i would have given it 5 stars.I bought the 128GB version for £25.99 sale, which is worth it. I don't know if it was worth the full price of £39. In that price range you can probably get something better.Anyway,i know my review seems a bit doom and gloom but i am happy with it, and recommend it.

It arrived less than 1 hour ago. It is good for the price, I have decent speeds out of this one (See photo), this is almost as good as the Sandisk Extreme 3.0. I tested this on my Windows 10 Asus X555L. Copying a movie file 8GB, I have write speed around 85-90mb, read speed started off at 300mb but after the first 10% drops to about 100-110mb. My USB port is a USB 3 , perhaps result would be different on a USB3.1 port which I do not have. I would recommend this USB stick.Edit: So good I bought another 2 !!The Above was for Rage 2I also bought the 123GB RageI think its an older model so I already expected the speed won't be as good as the Rage 2.Write Speed 30 mbs and read is 100+mbs

The only daft thing about this bit of kit is the inadequate and barely visible activity light hidden down in the key ring slot. Should have been visible on top.Overall, rugged and nicely constructed. Crisp sliding action.First job was to test authenticity and integrity for 32GB size as claimed, followed by read/write tests. Properties resolved to 31,600+ million bytes (29.4GB) so OK there. Verified with h2testw. Other tests with CrystalDiskMark.Although 4k read/write tests were slower, sequential read/write tests on my particular machine with USB3.0 were 200.4MB/s and 49.8MB/s respectively. Immeasurably faster than USB2.0 and exceeding the advertised spec. Nice.

I tested this USB drive against my old 64 GB PNY USB 3.0 drive using a disk performance app and it blew it out right of the water for sequential speed - for both reads and writes. This thing blazes along - it is so much faster than my old drive. It also "dips" in speed noticeably less than the old one when copying data across. For around £40 it offers huge capacity and great speed. Copying files from my laptop to desktop and the reverse is now a relative pleasure. I have encrypted it and this slows it down a little, but not much.I think this is a great value-for-money purchase and I heartily recommend it as one of the best value tech buys I have yet made.

I bought this to use with a travel router to carry all my movies. Loading the movies onto the stick got a steady 300+mb/s write. I have some external SSD drives from Samsung, T5 250GB & 1 TB and Sandisk 2TB SSD, but they are all massive compared to this. To have hi-speed and 512GB (461GB actual available) capacity with near SSD write and HDD read speeds, this is a great option at a good price compared to external SSD and micro SD. Added screenshots of copying movie files to and from MVME C: drive on my PC, it hold stead 300 write and 370 read from the memory stick. Crystal diskmark gives a lower reading for write that I don't see in everyday use.

Write speed; about 66 MB/sec. Read speed, only about 80 MB/sec. A bit disappointed with the read speed, but it may be a function of the slow HDD in my laptop - yes, I'm using a USB 3 socket. I bought it as a companion for my Xtreme 64GB (which is very fast), having read the blurb and compared statistics, but not so. My Xtreme can hit 160MB/sec while writing; this is only rated at 60MB/sec, even though it was a bit faster the read speed let it down. I'll update if these early readings turn out to be wrong.Edit: Sorry, I have a Kingston HyperX 64GB USB memory stick - no idea where I got 'Xtreme 64GB' from! Still, the quoted speeds are correct.

Speeds are in-line with the specs which is always a bonus with USB thumb drives. This is actually one of the fastest drives on the market at the moment. I've been using this transfer movies and large video files and it completes in just a few seconds using a USB 3.0 connection. Capacity is great for the price and the design is really nice (no cap to lose!) Having carried this around almost constantly in my bag and used daily, it still looks and functions as if it was brand new. I could probably run it over and it'd still work. Very impressed with this little drive and i'll certainly be buying other Patriot products in the future.

This sequential reads and writes are much faster than the Kingston Datatraveler I also have, but the 4k read is quite a bit slower, 4k writes are pretty terrible on most flash drives, but the kingston is still slightly faster. This is a very good flash drive for transferring large large files, but if you're looking for something to transfer lots of very small files, or even to be connected for a long time with files being created and deleted, you may prefer something one of the Sandisk Extreme drives, which have the 4KiB write speeds in the multiple of megabytes per second rather than under 0.1MB per second.

18.7.2020

I bought this to backup my collection of mp4 films I've been converting from blu-ray and the speed of this stick far far surpases anything I've used before and writes at well over 200MB per second often hitting 300MB per second when writing from my SSD on my laptop. The biggest limitation I have now is my laptops HDD which maxes out at 120MB per second and that's where most of my videos live :)The only way to get faster external storage would be to put an nvme ssd into an external caddy, overall a very very good flash drive deserving of the USB 3.0 Labeling.

Its fast and reliable and wasn't at a bad price when I bought it. (Well 2 of them actually)Just one word of warning, if you want to use this where you already have a clump of other usb's plugged into your pc, it might be a bit tight getting it in. I have one of these on the back of my xbox360 slim and the 3 usb slots there are really tight for this memory stick. I use a wired pad in the top usb and the power for my turtle beach headset in the bottom. It had to go in the middle slot as it wouldn't stay in the top or bottom slots. Very tight fit.
