After buying a chain tool off a well known auction site for around four pounds i decided to try it out last week, well after a few turns the tool became tight to turn against the rivet and lo and behold the pin bent as many people have said about the cheap tools rendering it useless! I looked at other tools on amazon and was quite impressed with the reviews for the park tool CT-5 so gave it a go. I tried it out today and on opening the packet the difference in quality was immediate straight away, there is a good weight to this and that is always a sign that something is a good quality item. I placed it on the chain and after a few turns the tool became hard to move round anymore.I didn't want to bend the pin so i tried the the other end of the link, a few turns and a bit of effort later the chain was apart, and i didn't have to worry about bending the pin as it was still fine. As someone has said it is a little small but it is ment to be taken with you when out on the road, and for the price i don't think you can moan too much. Like someone has said when reviewing one of the cheap ones; buy cheap buy twice and that is true, this tool will last anyone years as you can buy replacement pins which simply screw in. So avoid the likes of the ones with the black and red handles and invest your money in one of these instead, recommended.

Used this to break 11 speed KMC e-bike chain. I found it a bit fiddly to keep the punch lined up with the chain rivet. What happens is, you get it lined up, but as the punch contacts the chain rivet the rotation moves it so it is no longer lined up. On one occasion after the rivet had been pushed through, when I unscrewed the tool the punch unscrewed and detached, easy enough to screw back in though.I think it does need used with care, if a lot of pressure is applied when the punch is not lined up with the chain rivet, I'd fear it might just bend the location prongs. I'ts not a bad tool considering it's size and that it's not intended for every day use, there are no huge issues when used carefully,I'm happy enough to keep it in my tool kit, it's small enough to go in the carry with kit for on the move repairs. Not perfect perhaps, but does get the job done.I haven't used the tight link loosening function so can't comment on that.

Not a lot one can say. It's very small, no doubt about that.It also works perfectly.I tested it on a spare chain, and it removed a rivet/link with very little effort. All that is required is to ensure that the pin that presses out the rivet is properly aligned with the rivet to be removed, and out it comes. If the handles were any longer it would take up more space. If the handles were any shorter they would be too short to give the required leverage.I have yet to use it "in anger" but its diminutive size and minimal weight means that it will accompany my bike, together with a spare split link, at all times. In the unlikely event of a broken chain I will be up and cycling again in no time. Not tested its ability to re-join a chain, but split links are cheap, so carrying a spare split link "just in case" is no real hardship.

Had changed the chain the previous weekend using a cheap chain tool purchased from ASDA . This proved to be a challenge sincethe pin in the ASDA tool broke after breaking the chain which thus made the rejoining of the new chain very difficult . I managed to getthe chain joined but the link then was sticking & the ASDA tool broke further when trying to free in the link . When I received the Parktool I decided to to take a few more links out of the chain . Despite it's small size the Park tool made short work of breaking & rejoiningthe chain . The link was freed up easily using the tool .The effort required in comparison to the cheap ASDA tool was minimal .Worth the extra few quid & only given 4 stars as I don't know whether the tool will last long term as I anticipate it will be some time before I use it again .

I keep one of these in the saddle bag on each of my bikes, I ride big distances and have quick links as well but if a chain is going to break its Murphy's law that it won't be on the quick link. These little beauties hold well in the hand even when its cold and so long as you don't push against the link flange will break a chain and rejoin in under a couple of minutes with no issues what so ever even on the coldest of days. Ive had loads of chain tools but this is the best I've used and my squad all carry the too which is a strong shout as they are quite a discerning bunch. I ride an 11 ring cassette on my road bikes and a 10 ring cassette on my mountain bike. Ive broken 9, 10,and 11 KMC chains with this tool all without issues.

If you're thinking about getting a cheaper tool... DONTAs of writing this review, this is a £10 tool, quite expensive for what it is, wouldnt you say?Well yes, and no... This is an absolutely fantastic product, I purchased a £2.50 chain tool, and the amount of stress and anger the thing caused is worth spending the extra every time...The cheaper tools bend, snap and break very easily and are good for 1 use (you cant even get the link you took out back in because they break so fast)It's a no brainer, this is a tool for life, the others are a tool for 1 use and not even 1 full use, mine broke after taking 1 link out and I couldnt put a link back in because it broke.

I bought this chain tool as a back up to my main chain tool (its bigger brother the Park Tool CT-3.2) to take out on rides because it is a bit smaller and lighter. I have used cheap chain tools in the past that seem to be made of some sort of cheese! However, this tool is high quality and feels robust as are all the other Park tools I've used.I have used it several times to swap chains and split them for maintenance and I've had no problems at all with it, it is a great tool to have and splits chains really well. Don't bother with cheaper ones, it's not worth getting stuck on the side of the road to save a couple of £ and this will last a long time if you look after it.

Great little tool. After reading reviews on here for various chain tools I decided to choose this one. I made the right choice, the price was good and the tool works very well. Good price to quality ratio. It took me a few turns and the chain pin slid out easily, by hand. It's sturdy and small enough to fit in my little under seat tool bag on rides.I needed to shorten my chain by a few links and this did the job perfectly! The brand also has very helpful videos on YouTube to guide on repairs as well.It was delivered before the expected arrival time. Although this was over a week, but I was expecting 2 weeks.Very happy with it!

This is the 4th chain tool I've had, and hopefully the last. The first one I got had a loosening shelf (as this has) but it snapped off. The second was difficult to locate the chain correctly and the third the threading was too coarse and the pushing tip didn't engage with the chain pin an slipped off. This chain tool, however, is amazing! It has the loosening shelf, is small, light and pushed the pin smoothly. Any stiff links are a doddle to fix.I'm using this on a half link chain and swap out my chainring and sprocket quite frequently.

Had bad experience wirh cheap tool, actually it wasn't cheaper but comes with other related tools. Cheap one worked with old chains but it gave the ghost when used with sturdy new KMC. With this I had little struggle due to very short sliding arm so used pliers to lengthan distance where I can apply torque, I noticed that sliding arm has notches similar to screwdriver bit so if any one knows about screwdriver handle that fits this sliding arm please comment as that wouuld help a lot and would make breaking chain lot lot easier

I can't really write much about this product, it arrived three days before the final delivery estimate so a fantastic kudos to the company for the fast dispatch. The product itself is of very sturdy construction, I've already used it to remove one chain with minimal effort and it feels like it shall be able to remove chains for many years to come. Easily clips to a key chain for those who cycle to work and back, or fits in the back pocket to loosen stiff links for the recreational Sunday cruiser.

I'm just a little dissappointed with this product. Park Tool is a good brand and I have a lot of their kit. To be fair, I wanted a workshop tool, and this is probably designed to be taken on the ride for emergencies. I find it just a little small, so it's difficult to get leverage on really stiff links. That said, with effort on my part it hasn't failed me, so I'll continue to buy the brand, but I'll probably look to invest in a heavier duty tool for home maintenance.

I bought one of these many, many years ago, and use it two or three times a year. Unlike the cheaper ones I previously had, the pin has not bent, the castings have not cracked and the thread has not jammed. It still works perfectly. Only drawback is that its small size means it can take a fair amount of force to use compared to a workshop tool but I can't see that as being an issue unless you have limited finger strength, or work on chains far more often than I do.

A replaced a chain some years back and probably spent about an hour swearing and cursing trying to get the old chain off before resorting to a pair of bolt cutters to get the old rusted chain off. This genius device knocked out a pin in under a minute.Even if I never replace another chain this was worth the money. Will definitely look to Park Tools again for other labour saving devices (as well as using Google before attempting bike repairs again).
