We used this toy in the attached video to do a retelling of the Noah's Ark story (which is also on YouTube in better quality). The Noah's Ark toy is quite a traditional one and the universal appeal of it is in part because of the animals. This one comes with 10 pairs of animals (plus Mrs Noah is holding a pair of Rabbits so maybe 11 if you want). Obviously there are lots of animals missing (e.g. ravens, horses, monkeys), as are Noah's children, but I don't think that matters (they wouldn't all fit on the Ark anyway). The Ark is mostly assembled upon arrival, it is just the parts above deck that need putting together with simple to follow instructions included (see in the video). No screwdriver is included though but most people will have one they can use so this is okay. Putting it together is not difficult. However the screws do split the wood a little when they are put in (split but the pieces are still intact and fit into the slots). The above deck area once put together can be lifted off to help with arranging animals on the deck, and can be slotted back in to the slots on the deck. The below deck has a side ramp to allow animals on and off. There is also a door that can be slid open and closed at the back easily too (and it stays in place securely when you want it to). The other side of the Ark has three portholes for the animals to look out of. The deck has a ramp to the under-deck area. This ramp doesn't stay flat though. It would have been good if there were a clip to hold it flat or something, but never mind.My 8-year-old daughter says: It's good. It's actually really big, it's bigger than I thought it would be. And I like how it doesn't come with all the animals, but just as much as can fit in (and there are definitely no unicorns there).Overall we like it.

Oh this is so lovely and looks so beautiful all set up I hardly wanted it to be played with! It's just adorable and has such lovely quality and charm to it - it's a truly beautiful toy from Le Toy Van. Like a very traditional toy that has more a feel of being hand-crafted rather than machine made - it's the kind of toy you expect to see all set up in the window display of a vintage toy shop, enticing you in. With most components made from wood (other than the top part) the quality is there just as you would expect from this company's wooden toys and the hand-painted finish on all the individual parts is perfect for that extra touch of quality and very good. The Ark itself is very impressive andhas a good weight to the wooden base with some nice details painted on and then the little house that sits on top of the main deck is a bit more lightweight and connects on and off. You then have the adorable wooden animals which are just perfect with all their little details such as soft felt ears etc (I love the fact that some of the pairs aren't just carbon copies of each other either but instead it's very easy to distinguish between the male and female of each couple due to little differences) and it's a good set of animals including the giraffes, doves, kangaroos, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, hippopotamus, dolphins and penguin and then the very sweet little Noah and his wife. Just lovely! This is a lovely piece and will look absolutely gorgeous in a nursery for much younger little ones who might not be quieter ready to play with it yet but it makes for a great decoration piece in a nursery/child's room whilst you wait for them to grow into it, and then of course it is also perfect for little ones who can have lots of fun with the animals and the ark. Love it!

The box arrived a wee bit battered and the 2 penguins had their beaks chipped off (which I super glued back together) but the rest of it is all fine. Apart from that (which had I not been given a free product to review I would have returned for a replacement anyway) all was fine. I don't think that's down to build quality, I think its just unfortunate so I've not adjusted my rating. It is a lovely piece and I'm sure children will love this. I certainly would have if I'd received this is a kid. There are a LOT of different animals to play with and a Noah figurine and his wife and a ramp for them to go up and down as well as two other openings on the ark.The top of the ark does need an adult to assemble but that's easy enough.I saw some other reviews saying the house on top was flimsy but I don't think it is at all (not unless you're going to bash it with a hammer or book or something) - I thought it really sturdy, and well made.If I had a minor complaint I would say it was expensive, but then children's toys generally are, but either way you get a lot of product for your money and its a good size and does look beautiful. It would also look good on a table or shelf in a childs room. It's also made of wood as well, instead of plastic which makes it much nicer. If Noah's Ark is your thing then definitely buy it. Children will love playing with this even if they don't know the story of Noah's Ark.

This is a sizeable toy that will look great on a nursery shelf when not in use, it would be a shame to keep it hidden away.Easy to assemble, good instructions come with the kit and all animals are a perfect size for little hands to enjoy, some even have fabric tails or ears.Mr and Mrs Noah can stand at the wheel watching the animals come on board, there are portholes along one side to allow the animals to put their heads out while the taller guys stand on the top deck. The workmanship is absolutely perfect and the colours used make it really appealing to young children, painting is very nicely done to show detail on all figures. I love to see children use their imagination at playtime instead of just sitting at a screen, this is tactile and chunky enough to take the odd knock. I would however not give it to a child who is heavy handed as the top section lifts off allowing access to the body of ark where the animals go once they go up the side ramp. My favourite bit is the little window on top section where the doves can sit while keeping watch for dry land. Pricey compared to plastic versions on the market but top quality in every way. My grandchildren love it and I would love to think that one day it will be passed to a new generation, so long as nobody decides to stand on it I can see that being a possibility.

This is a sweet little set, but isn't - quite - as nice a toy as I'd expected it to be. The basic idea is very good: animal sets are always appealing to youngsters (so many opportunities to practice animal noises and talk about their attributes), and these come as part of a really quite interesting and challenging motor skills development and practice activity set. The animals are sweet, painted in colours that tend towards the pastel side. The set is not large (the ark is 21cm wide and 13cm high at its extremities), but the animals are a good, chunky, hand-hold size for the intended age group; and this makes a nice little room decoration when not in use.The set is completely painted - for personal preference,I like to see at least a little bit of natural wood colour on wooden toys - but for some reason the paint on the underside of the ark is thinner than the rest leaving this part quite rough feeling. Indeed, there are several places on the edges of the main component where the paintwork seems to be doing some heavy lifting in covering up somewhat rough finishing. The brand espouses good values in the production of this toy: natural, replenished rubber wood is used; and the packaging is predominantly made from paper and card - with just a few pieces of sticky tape and sticky labels used to seal these.

This is a rather beautiful , eye drawing item that instantly catches your attention . The boat is a substantial size , and is sturdy , and attractive. It has nice features like the draw bridge, little wheel and is nicely constructed . You have to build a small part of it up but it’s pretty easy , I just glued mine in place . For the boat I would give it 5 stars .I feel that it lets itself down by the animals , that are chunky and good for small hands to grasp but lack the attractiveness and playability of the boat . If I was looking at the characters I would say this was aimed at a toddler , but the boat I would say from 4 upwards. Older children like the boat part, but I had one kid simply toss the figures aside and ask if this was for a baby .Noah is the best character but Mrs Noah hardly has a face and is flat as a pancake .Such a shame with some small adjustments to the characters ters this would have a good playability , rather they are just flat , like squashed Peebles and no fun to play with . Maybe they were squished by the storm ?However I truly love the boat and it works well in my therapy room, so have got some new figures for it instead. I would also say I expected this to be really heavy and cumbersome , but it’s not and can easily be lifted about .

This is a beautiful, high-quality old-fashioned toy. It takes a little while to assemble, using the screws and dowelling supplied, but the clear diagram helps. The ark and the figures are made of solid wood and are brightly coloured. Non- toxic paint, and the rubberwood is claimed to be sustainable – not quite true, but it’s making use of trees which have already been used for rubber, so “recycled” would be nearer the truth. There are ten pairs of animals, plus Mr and Mrs Noah (whatever her first name was). The animals include a pair of dolphins, which is slightly odd, but it will help to remind children that the Ark was on the sea. There is also a pair of doves, who are of course crucial to the story. There are lots of little touches to appeal to children: for example, the giraffes have ears and head tufts made out of felt, and tails made out of string, and the ship has a ship’s wheel which actually goes round and round. The main ark and the figures will stand rough wear, but the “house” is a bit more lightweight, and probably needs careful handling.Children will love this. Not cheap, and best bought for children who play more with imagination than throwing toys around the room, but with the right sort of use should last a long time.

This is an absolutely gorgeous wooden Noah's Ark set. I used to have one as a little girl that my Nan used to let me play with when I was very good and it was my absolute favourite and I'm pleased to see this is a firm favourite with my little ones too. This is beautiful quality and very sturdy. It's well made with a lovely attention to detail. The animals are all painted nicely and are lovely and chunky to hold for little hands. The shape sorting holes on each side of the boat are great for when they're a bit older and getting into shape sorting. There's also space for all of the animals to jumble inside on top which doesn't require shape sorting, so it's suitable for little ones too.It also has the ramp which is very important for the animals to walk in two by two and my children love to sing the song 'The animals walked in two by two hoorah, hoorah....' as they play with it! I love watching them have so much fun from this and it's lovely to see them enjoying a gorgeous traditional wooden toy which has no lights and sounds and technology.Highly recommended and British designed. (Despite the company being called Le Toy Van which has French tones?!) Well worth the money as beautiful quality and i'd buy again for friends.

This is an unusual toy in that it has a Christian theme. As such, it offers a fun way to teach small children about a key story in Genesis. The toy is a very smart wooden ark in varnished and brightly painted wood, with cut-out painted wooden shapes of Noah, his wife Emzara, plus a pair of birds, elephants, giraffes, zebras, tigers, and penguins. Yes, I wondered about the penguins, too. I thought maybe lions or sheep or something, but for some reason we get penguins. No problems, they all go into the ark two by two, or one by one in this case, as you push each one through a matching shaped hole in the ark. The birds and the people go in the cabin on the deck. The cabin roof is removeable to extract the wooden pieces, and one end of the ark slides open to extract the others. The main body of the ark makes a handy store for all the pieces, and the rooftop is a neat handle, so you can carry the ark. It’s a very nice toy, albeit lacking a bit here in there in build quality. One of the giraffes was cut wonkily along the base, making it impossible to stand it up. Other than that, it’s a lovely toy, colourful, very solidly made, and very traditional. I donated mine to my church, which seems like a fitting home for it.

Overall, it's great Noah's ark toy. Comes with a selection of animals and Mr and Mrs Noah.Mine arrived broken sadly. Only a minor item, repairable (see photo) but disappointing. Hard to tell who was at fault; Yodel (usual suspects) for rough handling, Amazon for shipping it in just the box it came in (large delivery sticker on outside damaging present aspect), or manufacturer for not providing adequate shipping protection. What's happened is the heavy collection of bits to put together have smashed into the dowel pole and broken it. Probably when it was roughly handled during delivery process. If you want one, even if it's a present, open and check it.Inside there's a sturdy wooden bottom part of the Ark.A package containing the top parts, that don't seem so sturdy and several pairs of animals. Curiously, and theologically suspect, there's a pair of dolphins. Not sure why they don't just swim along, the Bible doesn't mention any sea animals/fish on the ark any way. Would have been better to have included another pair of land animals - perhaps a pair of Gorillas or Tigers. Now I've stuck it back together I think it's going to make a great present for someone this year.

Some assembly is required - basically the boat bit of the ark is already complete, it is just the 'house' piece on top that needs putting together; fairly easy even for a hopeless case like me - if the pictorial instructions leave you blank there is the pictures on the sides of the box it comes in to help, and once all is put together it seems very robust. The painted wooden animals have lots of detail e.g. the mummy kangaroo with the little joey head poking out, and the felt ears where appropriate. Some animal pairs are identical others like the lions and the kangaroos are obviously male or female, there is a flying dove and a perching one. Each animal or figure is sturdy enough to stand up to years of play and even the smallest pieces (the doves) would be too large to be a choking hazard for the youngest children. It would be an ideal toy for those who want to go back to traditional values, and not bombard children with computerised, interactive play, it would also be fantastic for creches, toddler groups and the like. Although it is a big outlay, for the quality and the amount of play value it is very worth it - highly recommended.

This is a really simply made, great looking and colourful toy. I've always loved wooden toys, and try where I can to get them in lieu of buying yet more plastic. This is quite an expensive toy, but worth the extra money, I'd say. It comes assembled but for the two pieces of the roof, which you hang yourself, either side of the wooden handle. The mixture of bare wood and lacquered, coloured wood strikes a nice balance, with the decal detailing a nice finish. The pieces are all solid and well made too. There's a bit of extra room to get each animal through, but not too much, and you retrieve the pieces by sliding up a piece at the end of the boat.My only issue is perhaps one of quality management. The cylindrical handle has a couple of nicks in the wood, which could give a splinter if caught wrong, and there are two instances of staining on the wood below the handle, probably from the blue paint used for the boat. I'll try and sand these off, as well as hone the surface of the handle, but it's slightly disappointing that a toy of this price (which is overall excellently made) has this issue.

My young (under 6yrs old) grandchildren all love playing with this ark and making up their own stories. We very quickly discovered that Noah told the lions that they could only come on board if they gave a very solemn promise not to eat the other animals. Noah's wife, Naamah, loved the dolphinsand asked them to swim alongside and be rewarded with the occasional Kiwi fruit (no idea why!).Anyway, imaginative play aside. The ark was pretty easy to assemble - and just as easy for the children to disassemble. That's not really good. The house on top of the ark only clips together with small dowels which look like they could easily break - though they haven't yet.I wish this part of the ark was better made because I think it is a weakness in design and durabilityThe animals and Mr & Mrs Noah are delightfully made and painted (with non-toxic paint, of course!). They are lovely to hold and play with - much better than a plastic alternative.

This really is a beautiful set and I can think of so many uses for it including new baby present, 1st birthday present, christening present, gift to a nursery school when your child leaves. The positives:- It is a substantive size, it would look fabulous displayed in a child's bedroom or playroom (where ours has ended up).- It is beautifully painted and decorated.- In keeping with all Le Toy Van toys we have the pleasure of owning it feels like a high quality product. The colours are bright but not at all garish. The animals are ever so sweet and include lovely details (the ears on the Kangaroos for example).- The ark can span age groups. My 7 year old has photographed it set up for various scenes as part of her summer RE school project. My 5 year old plays with it and then has used it as a 2 times table aide. The detractors:- the top part of the arc is flimsy and not in keeping with the quality of the rest of it - what a shame.

I'm definitely buying this for my little girl's 2nd birthday. We bought it as a Christmas gift for a 28 month old boy. I worried that it might be too young for him because he's quite an advanced little fellow, however on the day he opened it he absolutely loved it. His imaginary play kicked in and of course there's a challenging 'puzzle' element to it which can be seen in the photo. Like most kids, he discovered that it's just easier to shove all of the animals into the ark rather than try and fit them through their individual slot. The quality, from what I saw, was excellent. It was immediately loved and withstood a fair bit of throwing around without chipping or breaking.I got another text yesterday from his mum saying he loved his ark and hadn't stopped playing with it.It's colourful, great for hand-eye coordination and problem solving skills, as well as fun for the imagination, which is the best part of being a kid.
