I have owned the Panasonic NN-DS596B Steam Combi Microwave Oven for some time now and use it every single day from defrosting, reheating, microwave and steam cooking a variety of foods. I particularly like the Autocook programmes which automatically calculates the ideal cooking time based on the weight and type of food selected. At first I thought weighing food would be a bit of a faff but I have found that it helps with portion control and cooks to perfection every time. We try to eat healthily so the programmes I use most are for fresh and frozen vegetables, boiled potatoes and fish as I find the texture and favour of the food is maintained. We occasionally use the Panacrunch tray/grill function; families that eat pizzas, oven chips etc. will use this more often. The absence of a turntable is also a bonus as I am now able to use larger pots that would not fit or turn in my previous microwave. The modern stylish design will suit any kitchen and the fold down door is great feature for safety especially if you have limited space for a side opening door. Cleaning the oven is a doddle just wipe over with a damp cloth inside and a one push System Clean takes just minutes and fits easily into a weekly routine. If you want more than just a basic microwave then this combi does the trick.

Steam cooker is main reason I bought this model. Easy to use auto programmes. Manual could do with rewriting to make it more user friendly, and no recipes in it with colour pics or anything, like my old Sharp Carousel book. But nice looking appliance & so far easier to clean than my previous Sharp Carousel model, on account that there's no turntable. The magnetron under the base (which is obviously sealed) as I understand it rotates instead to give even cooking. Successes are steamed fish & veg, best we've ever had, retains flavour better than other cooking methods. For small family, single or couple, it's an ideal size. We use big oven much less now. Hardest thing to learn are new ways of cooking e.g.the combination cooking e.g using low level microwave + Grill. Manual does offer tables for guidance & it's fairly easy to set up but timings are guidance only, and as manual states, some items need a little adjustment, which I guess comes with experience. Overall I'd recommend it mainly for steam facility which produces top quality meals and can reheat cooked meat without drying out.

This is hands down the best microwave I have ever owned. I use it daily and I'd be lost without it. It ooks fantastic, and the clean design means it is easy to wipe clean. And I love the drop down door as it means I have full access even with it situated in a corner. There are a couple of downsides. The oven takes just as long to heat up as my full size oven, which surprises me, as this is obviously a lot smaller. And you can't leave the door open unless you want the light permanently on inside it. With some steaming functions, I would like to leave the door open in order for it to fully dry out, but it means having the light on all the time as it doesn't seem to be on a timer. A small issue, but annoying nonetheless. The final negative, is that it is quite light for its size and can slide around on the worktop at times.

Use this oven every day bit complicated at first but soon got used to it, use the oven for every thing that you use a oven for, after pre heating when you open the door all the heat is lost by the time you put your food in and it takes longer to get back up to the heat again food not ready in the time it should be, would be better if it went higher than 220 oC. Great for doing pizzas no sogginess, it has a steamer built in as well not used much but it's there. The worst thing is that it has a grill that is fixed to the top and the grill is hard to clean you cannot Take off to clean under. microwave could do with having a heat setting at 850 as most things you warm up says 850.

Because the machine is designed also to steam cook, it has a very efficient seal. This is great but the downside is that if one heats food, then the condensation is retained on the inside of the machine, which then requires the door to be kept open so that the condensate can disperse. The problem is that the light does not turn off. I think there should be a timer whereby if the door is open for more that (say) 2 minutes, the lamp turns off and only turn on again if the door is closed and then opened. The start button should illuminate so that once all the variables are set and the machine is ready to go, then there is a visual signal whereby the "Proceed" button lights up.

My previous (relatively new and under-used) oven was a Samsung which gave the ghost for no clear reason. This replacement is my first experience with Panasonic and a very nice one it is too. Steaming vegetables is as easy (and quick) as it can be, the grill works a treat, the oven, when it eventually heats up, is great and the microwave function is out of this world. Although the oven maintains a 40c temperature, it can only be set for a maximum of 90 minutes, making it not very useful as a yogurt maker. A separate program running for say 9 hours overnight would have been great. Noise levels are on par with whispering. Great !

This is the third Panasonic combination microwave we have had in the last 10 years the previous two models both had a set program for jacket potatoes using a combination of microwave and grill which produced superb crispy results. This latest model, which we were attracted to because it did not have a revolving turntable, has been an improvement in many respects, but it doesn't have the set jacket potato program. We have to first microwave the potatoes and then transfer them to a grill in our main electric oven, as the grill in the microwave is completely inadequate for this purpose, and never produces a satisfying result.

This has very quickly become our main oven. The Panacrunch mode works brilliantly and produces excellent results. The steam oven is very quick to get going and much less messy than our previous steamer. The only criticisms (and they are minor) is that we always find water under the machine to the front left side when using the steam oven. And the Panacrunch tray may well be dishwasher prof but it certainly is not dishwasher friendly. There is no position to be found that doesn't result in it holding water somewhere at the end of the cycle. Perhaps a redesign with drainage holes? It'd be perfect then.

Have only had this microwave for a few days and love it. It wasn't the model I went looking for but came across this one and decided to go for it. My old Panasonic was slow compared to this one. Love the steam function. Have only used once but the chicken was cooked to perfection. Fits comfortably on the worktop beneath the overhead cupboards. Find I am now using this microwave much more than previous one. Just made toasted sandwiches in a quarter of the time. Find instruction book easy to follow and keep it handy at all times. Can't recommend this machine enough and it came at a great price.

The steam function works well but only veg up to 320g. Disappointed you can only use 2 types of cooking at one time. Our previous model could use 3 (but not steam) Combination cooking only allows warm simmer and low micro settings. Be careful your requirements warrant this machine. To be honest I preferred our previous non steam comination cooker. This doesn't have a glass plate or wire shelf - only the solid panacrunch shelf. Feel like the monkey that was given 3 bananas and had 2 taken away, as opposed to the one given just 1 banana. Both ended up with a banana but I feel cheated.

I bought this product because I wanted a replacement for my Panasonic combi microwave. My other was fan assisted and took less time to heat up but only a few minutes. Still it had me wondering if it was broken as when cooking 210 degrees it took over 14 mins to heat up. I am still at the experimenting stage and it really is slowly growing on me as to its fast cooking times using grill and microwave. I am disappointed at only getting the one pan as it says I can do two shelf cooking but on trying to get the steel rack it does not seem to be available.

Mostly used for heating up using Microwave function. Oven bought as backup for cooker if fails but as yet not used other functions including steam. Will try in due course. Main problem has been difficulty to read the key text on the control panel as poorly presented, could do with a back light! If illumination on panel and oven interior brighter the unit would be nigh on perfect! Have found the door latch a little sensitive on occasion as sometimes get 2 second countdown and have to open and close the door again!

The 'Panacrunch' tray is very effective. For quick snacks such as fish fingers, battered snack foods etc the Panacrunch tray gives you excellent results from freezer to plate in 13mins. Microwave is great not having to use a turntable and steam oven is much easier to use than our steamer. The only downside we have really is that every time we use the steam fucnction we have water leaking from the front left of the oven. Not much as most collects in the supplied tray but it is something to watch for.

Love the space with no turntable, the oven is much easier to use with the panacrunch. Being able to roast is easier, with more room and the pan heating quicker, also baking cakes is easier and more efficient than putting a big oven on. Using muffin trays is possible, unlike smaller microwaves with turntables. The microwave is fast with 1000 W output. I also like the door opening downwards. I have used the grill and that is efficient, but not tried the steam or combination features yet.

So far very happy with the microwave, have used the steam, micro, grill and defrost but not oven yet. Steam obviously leaves it dripping wet inside but works great. The panocrunch tray really does work well and I love the look of it. Only downsides I would say are the lack of a mesh shelf and no jacket potato dedicated program and the finish ding is very quiet. But despite these I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for more than just a microwave
