I purchased this lens for my Panasonic G7 and I'm so glad I did.Firstly, the built quality is excellent for something in this price range. The body is plastic, but it feels very solid and the mount is metal. The focus ring is buttery smooth and the lens itself is very light, but doesn't come across cheap. It comes with a lens hood which looks a bit excessive but it does the job, and it's nice of Panasonic to include it in the box *cough* Olympus *cough*.The image quality on this is fantastic. Even when shooting wide open, it's very sharp and there's barely (if any) chromatic aberration. The sharpness improves even further at F4 and F5.6 and it's very usable up to F16, though I wouldn't go any further than that. There can be some slight vignetting but it's nothing to worry about, and I like to add some in post production anyway so it's no concern for me.Of course one of the main reasons for getting this lens is the shallow depth of field, otherwise known as "bokeh" and this lens certainly does not disappoint. If you look at the example images, you'll see the creamy soft background, and you don't need to shoot wide open to achieve these results, just get closer to the object. To sum up, it's a fantastic lens at a fantastic price and if I was looking for my first 25mm (50mm on a full frame) fast prime lens I would look no further than to get this. Just do it.P.S. If you want some more image examples you can check out my YouPic page, I use this lens much more than the G7's kit lens. Link: (...)

I bought this lens to use on a G7.The pros: Its light, its fairly sharp and the auto focus works quite well. The cons: It does not achieve that shallow depth of field look that well (bokeh) unlike some lenses that Nikon or Canon make.It has a manual focus ring, but it has an internal auto focus too.Unlike older lenses and pretty much all manual lenses, there is no absolute focus based on distance marked on the lens barrel. This is a bit of a problem for video if you use a separate follow focus, because if you want to focus on something 10 feet away and then gradually focus to it moving in a shot to say 6 feet away, there is no guarantee you can do that on this lens as you might want if you use a follow focus. The lens is clever in that it can focus on anything when you press the screen automatically - but this feature can hinder manual focusing as it sort of resets itself.Like some of the other Panasonic lenses, the footage is quite contrasty and limits the dynamic range you get in the footage. Dark colours are often maxed out into blacks. It means video footage from this lens is more limited for colour grading. Finally the price. Its kind of mid range at £150. There are there nicer lenses out there for sure. But if you have a Panasonic camera, shoots stills and some video and don't need to manually focus a lot, the pros may outweigh the cons for you.

I'm from the old school of photography I admit it. Film SLR's I have bought in the past all came with a fast 50mm lenses and I grew to love that angle of view - It just seems (to me) to be the natural way to see the world. Moving on to the digital age and using "kit" lenses with various digital cameras, I tend to set the zoom at around 50mm or 35mm (equivalent). I have recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix Micro 4/3 camera with 12-32mm "kit" lens - An excellent lens - Very sharp and perfect for travel etc. However at my preferred 25mm (50mm equiv.) the lens is down to f5.2 wide open, which on a dull day forces the ISO up for a given shutter speed. With this (H-H025E)lens I have over 3 stops advantage - That's the difference between being able to shoot at ISO 200 rather than ISO 1600. My initial test shots show the lens to be very sharp from f1.7 to about f11 where image quality starts to drop off (due to diffraction). Lovely smooth focusing ring, light as a feather (125g), metal mount and with a matching lens hood. OK, it's plastic, but so is the Olympus 25mm f1.8 at twice the price. Only down side is that there is no image stabilization built in, but that's a small price to pay considering the price of the lens. Highly recommended

Purchased this for my OMD EM10, reason for choosing this lens over the Olympus is price alone, as it substantially cheaper .I have tried both side by side and the Olympus is "cuter" in feel and build, the Panasonic is no nonsense plasic, and slightly bulkier. They both focused fast and silently, comparing images from both is really that close I can't tell the difference. The Panasonic lens is very sharp at f1.7 already, but shows possibly more contrast when you close down to about f2.2 and sharpness across the frame improves even more to what I would consider exceptional levels, Bokeh is smooth and pleasant especially for a standard "50mm" lens.I can't comment on flare control, because I haven't seen the sun come out in days, but I have heard a few comments that flare is not as well controlled as the Olympus, but a decent well designed hood is included.Overall I think for the price this lens is a no brainier and works great on my Olympus camera with no issues at all, extremely happy with the performance and handling, but 1 star off for being slightly fugly and bulky, having said that the size looks balanced on the OMD cameras and larger, it may just look a bit unbalanced on the Panasonic GM series.

So far, I'm really happy. As usual I did more research after purchasing waiting for something to arrive rather than before. Prime lenses on the whole are cheaper to manufacture but give better results than their zoom jack of all trades counterparts.Build - made of plastic except for the mount to the camera body.Operation - on the Olympus the AF is incredibly fast. MF is a little tricky. If you move the ring slowly nothing seems to happen. You have to turn it quite quick which means it can be fiddly.Picture quality - this is my first prime lens and the quality outshines both my kit lens (though they are pretty good too!). I spent most of my youth trying to get everything in focus,so today's fixation on bokeh makes me smile. On a fast aperture everything that is supposed to be in focus is pin sharp with the rest out of focus. I took a few shots at night with only a streetlamp for light. 1.8 aperture 1/60 SS no flash no tripod hardly any ISO noise and great exposure. Not being a zoom you are quickly forced to think more about framing and re-position yourself to get the shot, which isn't a bad thing.Impressed.

I'd read all the reviews and watched the you tube clips before I decided to send for this lens so was expecting great things from it . Im not disappointed in anyway now its arrived and is on my lumix G6 , it really is has fantastic as they all say and for this price such a superb lens seems a steal ! The quality of build is really nice and solid with a metal mount and silky smooth manual focus ring so it really looks the part and certainly looks a million times better than the 12-32mm Panasonic pancake zoom its replacing , image quality is top draw and focus speed is instantaneous , its staying on the G6 from now on as its standard lens and the little zooms going on ebay ,I always loved the zoom with its sharp results but this 25mm prime is in a whole different league entirely , My advice is if you own a Olympus or a Panasonic mft camera and are considering this lens just press buy now and sit back and wait for the best lens youll ever buy at this price , its a total bargain .

Plastic +++ so durability is always an issue - but to counter that - it is very very light. Since you'll be at risk of dropping it when changing enses- beware.Otherwise it is amazing -[1] very low distortion at about 1%[2] quick AF speed[3] add a 46mm +4 close-up lens and its a capable close-up lensIssues to think over[1] vignetting is 1-1.5 stops - so use a post process correction to correct this[2] to get the sharpness, it has eight elements in seven groups, including two aspherical lenses to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations - BUT this drops light transmission compared to a simple 4-5 element "standard lens" - DXO measures this as a T-stop of 1.9 which is dated as worse than averageIalso have a Mieke full manual metal bodied and mounted 25mm - designed for micro 4/3 (search eBay for one). Chosing which one to use on paper should be easy - the lumix wins- but in reality, if the AF is not crucial to you - the competetion is close !Read full review...

I bought this lens for £116 rather than the £148 quoted here, but it is still a great lens, but greater yet when you pay even less for it.At f1.7 for a 25mm lens it wont have quite the bokeh you would expect from a true 50mm lens of that aparture, but still much better than the kit zoom lens that came with the camera, and it also works far better in low light situations than the kit zoom. In low light situations the autofocus can get problematic (no problem at all in good lighting conditions) so I am finding often in low light I need to switch to manual focus, but it is very easy to focus manually on my Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II (I have reallocated one of the buttons on the camera to allow me to quickly switch between manual and auto focus modes). The picture quality is superb although slightly vulnerable to flare when pointing close to the sun (it does come with a lens hood, but for most uses I have for this lens it really is not a problem).

I have the LUMIX G7 and have been using my 12-60mm kit lens since I got it.I ordered this prime lens as it was highly rated, highly reviewed and I needed a prime for it.I was not disappointed. After just an hour or so of use, you really can see the quality of this lens shine.Due to the low F stop (1.7), it's great in low light and in general situations. The shallow depth of field it allows is great, with contrasting blur between the subject and the background. The focal length gives you the chance to be artistic, without any zoom you have to get closer or further away from the subject, depending on what you want. The autofocus is great and I would thoroughly recommend this lens, especially as its so cheap for the quality you get.If you haven't got a prime yet, you have to go for it - 100% recommend.

****ATTENTION VIDEO SHOOTERS****A message from a professional broadcast cameraman using this as hobby kit. One thing it seems all reviews have failed to mention about the manual focus on this lens is that rather than being 'excellent' as some bizarrely state, it is not linear which means that the faster you move it the quicker it ramps through the focal range which makes manual focusing extremely difficult and unpredictable. I've never understood this feature in cameras with focus by wire - it is not useful to anybody because quick focus pulls/finding focus is ALWAYS done by feel, knowing the distance one has to pull to land sharp. So if you are planning on focusing manually I.e. in video, just be wary that you'll end up bouncing around the sharp spot before you inevitably find it.

Outstanding lens and a no-brainer purchase for a Panasonic G80 owner.Yes, the image quality is a noticeable step-up from using the 12-60 kit lens at the same 25mm length.25mm on an M43 system is equivalent to 50mm on a full-frame system - which is the length that's meant to be more similar to the human eye's perception. Hence, its the recommended first prime lens you buy.Great all-rounder. Nice for natural portraits (not as much isolation as a longer portrait lens).Light, quick autofocus and great ability to capture subtle lighting. It's also half the price of any other F1.7 lens in Panasonic's range. It's an obvious first-purchase for anyone who owns a Panasonic M43 camera with a kit lens.I'llget a wide angle prime next and will mainly switch between the two.

This is an amazing first addition to my Panasonic 12-60 f3.5-5.6 kit lens. This lens is noticeably sharper than the kit lens and the extra aperture is welcome. My favourite use for this lens is for portraits and indoor photography. Manual focus wheel feels great and the auto-focus motor is very quiet which makes this a great video lens.My only gripe about it is that the build feels very plasticky. Personally, I would be happy to spend a little more for a metal body. Although I suppose the advantage of using plastic means that this lens is very light which is great when you are out and about.I can see why Panasonic stayed with a plastic lens as it makes the lens pretty much unbeatable for theprice.

I got mine only yesterday and haven’t had the chance to do much testing yet but from what I have done I can say that this is indeed an incredible value lens. Autofocus is indeed very fast, much more so than my 14-42mm Olympus kit lens, and the focus is very accurate. Picture quality has only been tested indoors so any comments at this point I think would not do it justice but I can say that it is definitely sharper than my kit lens and nicely blurs the background. I love how compact and light it is and although it’s an all plastic build it doesn’t feel cheap to me. I’m really loving this lens so far and cannot wait to try it out outdoors.

I recently bought this and was not really sure what to expect, in a word its brilliant.OK there are better bits of glass out there but not at this price point. An f1.7 AF lens for the price that these go for is simply amazing and really does take some beating. The lens is well made considering its price point and the images it renders are simply great, at f1.7 you get a nice bokeh and lovely clear centre ideal for portraits, ramping up the f stops leads to lovely clear images across the frame. If you want a fast piece of glass and do not have much to spend these are definitely worth looking at.

I did a lot of research before buying this (I'm new to photography and wanted to make sure I bought well) and I'm glad I did, compared to my camera bundled lens this 25 mm lens is stunning, even I can tell the difference, it's so clear and lets so much light in. My first pictures were a real wow moment, the clarity and light. I'd had my camera for a year or so and had done little with it prior to buying this lens, my camera is rarely out of my hands now. This lens and my recently bought Panasonic 45 - 150 mm zoom lens have really opened my eyes to photography, I can now take half decent photo's.
