I've had a few beard and body trimmers over the years but this i-Shaper from Panasonic is one of the better ones and although it's primarily meant for beards it's pretty good for bodies too. The most obvious difference from other trimmers is the sideways orientation meaning you hold the trimmer perpendicular to the area you're trying to trim and although it might look odd it really works. Somehow it's easier to see what you're doing because you're no longer covering up the area below the blades, so you can better see where you've been and where you're going. The sideways orientation also works if you're trimming body hair because it's easier to reach around and trim that caveman fuzz from yourback and shoulders.Along with the trimmer itself you get an adjustable comb which lets you trim your beard to any length between 0.5mm and 10mm, plus a precision attachment, a carry-pouch, cleaning brush, lubricating oil and a mains adaptor. The adjustable comb is mostly excellent, the best I've ever tried, and you simply dial up the length you want and start trimming. The attachment has a ratchet action that holds the combs in place and it's secure and doesn't slip in use - I've had adjustable combs in the past that slipped as you applied pressure to them so suddenly instead of trimming hair to 5mm you're shaving it at 0.5mm and leaving patches! The teeth of the comb are wider than some with rounded ends and although this makes it more comfortable to use it also makes it slower. The wider teeth can ride over the hairs, pushing them flat rather than separating them and feeding them to the cutting edge, so you might find you need to go back and forth over an area repeatedly to get everything trimmed to the same length. The precision attachment is really just a shield that covers up half of the cutting edge and lets you use the remaining exposed edge to trim with more control and in awkward areas. The mains adaptor is formed into a UK plug and is rather large and clunky and connects to the trimmer with a non-standard plug. That means if you're travelling you'll have to take it with you (or rely on the rechargeable battery) and you can't use something generic like a USB adaptor. You also get a zip-up pouch for carrying everything and it's big enough to take the mains charger too, but only just. You're advised to oil the blades (which snap out of the trimmer sideways and are replaceable) after every use and this is a bit annoying when many other trimmers use ceramic or oil-free blades. The blades and comb (but not the trimmer) are washable but apparently the regular oiling is partly to prevent rust so it might make more sense to keep them dry. If you use the trimmer without the adjustable comb it cuts to about 0.1mm, which is a 5 o'clock-shadow look, and it's worth noting this is a trimmer and not a shaver. It's also a bit scratchy on the skin used this way so generally you'll probably keep the adjustable comb attached. As a beard trimmer it works well and the adjustable comb is a boon, so much easier than constantly swapping clip-on combs and secure enough to be reliable. It's a bit over-sized with the comb attached, especially in constrained areas like your top lip when your nose keeps getting in the way (or maybe that's just me) but you get the hang of it. The sideways orientation works much better than you might expect and it doubles up as a very quick and effective body-hair trimmer too. If they could switch to oil-free blades and lose the non-proprietary charger connection, so you could use your USB charger, then it would be better but as-is it's still a really good beard and body trimmer.

I've previously used a Philips QT4013/16 trimmer, which has similar specifications on paper (1-hour fast charge and 0.5mm - 10mm cutting range), so I was keen to see how this higher-end Panasonic model would compare.I'm favourably impressed. Holding the trimmer perpendicular to my face, rather than angled, when using the guard took a bit of getting used to, but soon becomes natural. The cut is very uniform, both on my short beard and slightly-longer hair. With the guard removed, this cuts very close to the skin - not quite as smooth as a wet shave, but good enough for my purposes, and significantly better than the Philips model. The finer, more numerous teeth on this Panasonic trimmer also mean I haven't had any nicks so far, which the Philips trimmer would give me on occasions. I haven't found any need for the detail attachment, which merely covers about 85% of the blade to give a shorter cutting length when shaving, but some might find it helpful. It comes with a bottle of oil, a cleaning brush and a black velvet carry bag (which my children are using as a pencil case). The oil brings me on to the one negative aspect. My old Philips trimmer claims not to need oiling, and I've never done so. By contrast, this Panasonic trimmer says to oil the blades before and after every use. That's twice a day! While this instruction is clearly ridiculous (if you've done it after one use, there should still be oil on the blade before the next use), it would be helpful to know who frequently the blades should actually be oiled to prolong their life. Once a week I can probably live with, but life is too rushed in the morning to be faffing around with little pots of oil every day!

The Panasonic i-Shaper (Model ER-GD60 –s) is a 3-in-1 beard and facial hair trimmer is a top of the range style facial hair trimmer that incorporates a multitude of features specifically designed for well-groomed facial hair.Upon using the trimmer for the first time, the first thing you notice about it is the angle of the trimming head and the way in which you use it. The head is at a 90 degree angle to your usual run-of-the-mill beard trimmer. However, it really does make sense. After you start trimming your beard the direction and way you hold the trimmer feel natural. Angling it to the contours of your face is much, much easier this way. You probably have to use it to really appreciate it.As with most facial hair trimmers, you have the option of using a detail attachment which really does allow you to perform some careful trimming for style (should you want this) as well as the more standard trimming attachment for simply trimming down the length of hair on your beard. Both are easy to change between. With no attachment on you can use the trimmer as a reasonably effective electric razor. It’s not perfect at this, but it was never meant to be solely for shaving. However, to keep beards neat and tidy it works absolute wonders. The charge time on the trimmer is also pretty darn impressive. Between charges you have around 50 minutes worth of use, with the charge being about an hour in length. I’ve been using the trimmer regularly for about a month now, and can testify to these charge times. All in all I’m very happy with the trimmer. It not only looks stylish, but does the job incredibly well. It really does make beard maintenance just that much easier.

This is the most amazing beard/facial hair trimmer that I have ever owned! What a fantastic piece of kit it is!In the smart attractive amazing is a partly charged trimmer, a charger with standard 3 pin plug, a zip up plush black bag to keep it in, a cleaning brush, some oil, a clip on detail trimmer and a separate clip on trimming height comb attachment. There is also a 243 page instruction book (of which 16 are in well translated English).Simply press the on button ‘in’ and trimming can begin. With the detail adaptor on, there is only a very small cutting gap which allows you to make very accurate edging . With the comb attachment you can set the trim length in 1/2mm .With this fitted the unit has a wonderful ‘feel’ in the hand and you immediately fall in love with the way it feels like an extension of your body. In matter of seconds your beard is the length that you choose and the edging is so smooth and accurate.Plugging in to charge activates a neon in the body and is complete within an hour, charge lasts around 50 minutes too! This is not just another beard trimmer (good grief - I have had so many over 39 years of wearing one), but this is a major step forward in design that is not only great to hold, but insanely accurate too. The blade is claimed to last 3 years.I cannot recommend this highly enough – I love mine and I think you will love it too!

Well this is revolutionary. My struggles with regular electric trimmers are over. No more angst in trying to get an even length of beard across my whole face. No more thin patches right next to ones where try as I may I cannot get the straggly long hairs to cut. No, thanks to this Panasonic those days are gone.Right out of the box this is quick and intuitive to set up. It has a charger plug and was fully charged in less than an hour. The beauty of this is the level of precision. 'Holiday ' me wants a 'Yeti' look and can select a very long cut from the 20 settings on the detachable head - about 10mm should do it.But 'Work'me wants to look much more librarian and thanks to several half settings not available to me on regular trimmers I can choose a more pedestrian 5.5mm and I look like a (rather old ) chiorboy. The point is, whichever setting you choose this delivers an even cut right across the whole beard .The device itself is set up to be used horizontally at 45 degrees and boy, does that make send in a 'why did they not think of that before?' kind of way .As you can probably tell by now I am delighted with this and I haven't even mentioned the separate styling head it comes with .This isn't cheap but if you take pride in your appearance and want to look like a champion breed and not a mongrel , it is well with the investment.Works for Yeti's too .

Not sure that i am the right person to write a review on this as i have never used it as it was intended. I guess the main point of this trimmer is to cut beards to a selected length, but i don't have a beard. What i do have is an innate laziness which precludes me from going through all the hassle of clean shaving, and then again in growing a beard so i am left with need to take off the adjustable guard and shave my face and head with just the blades...my first point here is how easy shaving is with this thing, no cuts, no nicks, nothing but smooth gliding across all surfaces (well designed). Hypoallergenic blades means no nasties lingering.I haven't noticed any inconsistencies in the cut so for me the blades are well aligned.Secondly is the noise or lack there of,this is a very quiet trimmer, much more so than the previous Babyliss one i was using. haven't messed about with the wireless yet but the wire is robust and long enough with the cord protruding sideways from the plug (nice touch). Handy protective case too.Like i said..i am probably not the target consumer for this type and i am not sure how helpful this review is to anyone whom doesn't want to just stubble their head but for myself it does everything i need ..very well.

This is a very different take on a beard trimmer, and unlike Panasonic's other more conventional models and those from rivals. The shape certainly allows you to grip it more comfortably and follow the curve of your face, but it does mean that it is easier to use with your dominant hand and less so with the other, which takes some time to get used to as it's harder to use your dominant hand to shave the opposite side of your face.I wasn't a big fan of the detail trimmer attachment; it does reduce the blade to a more manageable size but you still have the cover either so, so it's still bulky.Still, once I'd got used to it I found this gave me a nice, even trim without pulling the hair at all.Edging is easier to as the blade is at a more natural angle for it.The instructions say you should oil the blade before and after each use though, whichi is a bit of a pain.It feels well made and I was pleased to see it was made in Japan still unlike most Chinese-made rivals. It's probably a product some will love and some hate, but the design has definite advantages and it's a high quality product at a fair price.

What sets this beard dedicated trimmer apart is the position of the blade on its side, unlike other models that have the trim head straight on flat. Now, I've been using flat trimmers (for hair and beard) for as long as I remember and I got very well versed in how to use them, so moving to a completely different position of the trim head relative to the face didn't come easy. Infact, I had at least one disastrous attempt completely ruining one side of my beard that left some funny looking patches. At least in my case, as good as this dedicated beard trimmer is, all the effort of getting used to it and the awkward position of the trim head didn't improve the results of the regular one. This being a personal matter,I should add that the trimmer itself is of a really good quality with plenty comb steps for different beard lengths and the battery lasts long enough for more than one use. I guess I might have been more patient with learning how it use it, but that's just me.

We've got quite a few Panasonic products at home and they always deliver. I've already got a Panasonic trimmer which is further down the range so getting this high end model to review was a great opportunity.Firstly, build quality is robust. Being the clumsy person I am, I dropped it but it didn't break. With the supplied charging lead, I plugged it into the bathroom shaver socket and one hour later, the unit was fully charged.Having 20 adjustment lengths is great. Considering the toughness of my stubble, it made short work of it. This is also good for side burns as well beards. After a month, I had to charge it again which makes the claimed 50 minute usage time realistic. As with any trimming product, remember to oil the blades. I use Wahl's trimming oil which is perfect for the unit.I wish the unit came with a decent travelling pouch though but I suspect that would inflate the cost by at least £10 when a pouch really costs a couple of pence to manufacture.

I’ve owned a couple of beard shapers/trimmers before and both have produced reasonably good results. When I saw the different shape of this I thought that it might struggle to achieve good results. Wrong. The innovative shape works really well. Especially on the hair on the top lip. Conventional trimmers tend to be a bit bulky and that makes it difficult to trim the area between nose and top lip effectively. Because this operates “sideways” and tapers to a thin set of moving blades I can easily trim that tricky area. The size guard is easy to use and again because of the design feature it does not get in the way.My only real gripe is that the three pin plug is such a peculiar shape. It has a bulbous right hand side which means that in a double socket you have to put it in the right hand socket or not use that socket. Seems a very odd design decision to me. Not enough to dock a star but just odd.Otherwise a great little beard trimmer.

Well this is a real eye-opener! I have had a few beard trimmers in my time ...mostly they were pretty much re-jigged mini shavers....This is the very best I have ever used ...made for the job and very well made at that! There are 20 different cutting lengths as the trimming attachment can adjust from 0.5-10 mm.There is also a detailing attachment included along with a cleaning brush (Which could be better) and a bottle of blade oil!The trimmer only takes one hour to charge, giving allegedly 50 minutes use (I haven't timed the usage) but it did take just short of an hr to fully charge.Trimming and thinning of my beard was fast and easy, just the way I like it!Apart from the pretty rubbish cleaning brush (Which is not a deal breaker at all)the only other negative is the price....A penny short of £80 is very expensive, on the other hand it is an exceptionally good piece of kit!

This beard trimmer is a revelation. I've tried a lot of trimmers in my time - I can't be bothered to wet shave every day, so trim my beard once a week instead. The problem is, to get a consistent beard length always takes a long time, if its possible at all.Until now. This Panasonic unit, despite some odd instructins, just works. You hold it at right angles to your face, and rub it up and down. Within about two minutes I had a neater beard than I have done for ages. The detail trimmer also works really well, and it is easier to keep the edges of my beard neat. There is literally nothing bad I can find to say about it. I'm a complete convert.

Gives a very good shave for a trimmer style shaver. I don't think it'll ever get quite as as close as a rotary or a comb style shaver but is probably as close as this style can get. For me the rotary and comb style cause a lot of irritation so this is perfect. The different orientation of the blade to the handle does take some getting used to but is no problem after the first shave. Kind of feels like you're brushing your face after you are used to it. The battery has always held up and the charging time is good, a definite upgrade from my old shaver.

I am really impressed with this cordless beard trimmer. I thought the side-on mechanism would be a gimmick but it really helps, especially for neatening edges. The blades are sharp and work well. I get closer with this to shave areas like my neck where my old trimmer would leave a bit of stubble. It comes with a clunky adjustable guide for changing the lengths which works well and is easy to use. It also has a cover to shorten the length of the cutting edge for intricate trimming.
