I have a Dell 7010 SFF i7 system which I'd been using with video encoding. The 8 CPUs would normally max out during video conversion and I knew that a GPU would help alleviate that pain. Due to limited 250W PSU and low profile slot in the Dell, I knew my options were limited. I wanted a fanless GPU if possible, to keep the system quiet.Initially I tried a Gigabyte GT1030 Slient card but the heatsink was 1cm too long and wouldn't fit in the case with out out hitting a PSU connector on the motherboard. So then I tried an MSI GT1030 Silent Low profile card and it fitted fine. Powered up the Dell and everything looked great. I fired up my encoding software, ticked the nVIDIA hardware acceleration box and tried a file.Absolutely no different i7 was still maxing out at 100%.After a little research I discovered that the GT1030 range doesn't support NVENC and you need a 1050 whose 75w power consumption was way over the 30w for 1030. If you don't need hardware accelerated video encoding it's a great choice for the Dell. So back to Amazon went the MSI 1030.After more research I discovered that the GT730 supported NVENC in the Keplar form which is either chip number GK208 or GK210. After much googling I found the Palit Gt 730 silent is a 2nd generation GK210 Keplar. As you can see from the photos the card is silent and fits with acres of room to spare. The hardware acceleration for video encoding works a treats. My i7 ticks over at 10% while the GT730 does all the work, encoding 300fps, the i7 could only managed 140fps before the upgrade.Tempreature sits at 63 degrees after 20 minutes of encoding. The only thing thing the Palit doesn't come with is low profile bracket, so order these as well.

Needed a low-profile card for a HTPC build I'm gifting my sister and brother-in-law. Ideally I was after a DDR5 version of this, as they are little powerhouses, capable of playing the latest titles (albeit at 720p at medium setting - enough for most people) surprisingly well for the cost.I'd already spent a small fortune though and was able to get one of these half-price, and gaming wasn't the focus of the machine (and the DDR5 models run £70/£80 and more, at time of writing - another £40+).There's plenty of people with the DDR5's saying this version is useless at games, but it's simply not true. The quad-core CPU and 8gb RAM mean the card is free to run at full power.Haven't tried a ton of games with it but Arkham Asylum at 1080p and medium settings is silky-smooth; no lag at all. I tried Arkham Knight expecting it to collapse, but a slight overclock at low settings made for a very playable and still pretty handsome experience. Tomb Raider (2013) at 1080p medium settings looks great and plays with no lag.Not tried Deus Ex:Mankind Divided - probably not a great experience (it wasn't even with my far better r9 280x OC) but for even new titles you can nearly always get them playing as well and looking at least as good as a decent Xbox 360 game, if not better. The HDR 4K playback future-proofs it as a choice for a media pc. Complete bonus.I wasn't expecting much, but I've been really surprised. And it's completely silent, which in this case was important.Terrific value for money.

It performed better than other budget cards and would go for this type again.
