With a three month backpacking trip around South East Asia coming up, I spent a very long time researching the Pacsafe Travelsafe, reading other reviews by Amazon buyers and travel bloggers alike. The reviews were consistently great so I thought I would bite the bullet and buy the 12L Travelsafe! So, it turns out 12L is pretty big! Much bigger than I was expecting and in all honestly, I almost didn't take it with me as the night before the trip when I was last-minute stress packing. I thought the Pacsafe would take up too much room. However, when it is empty it does fold down to a pretty compact size and I am I am so, so glad I took it. If I had been travelling solo I may have opted for the smaller size, but the 12L was perfect between my boyfriend and I. To give you a rough idea on how much you can fit inside the 12L Pacsafe, this is what we stored on a regular day-to-day basis when we were out of our room:- Netbook- Tablet- Kindle- DSLR Lens and Charger (We could just about squeeze my DSLR in too, depending on how neatly everything else was in!)- 2 Money wallets- Passports & other documentsThis was pretty standard for us, but sometimes we had things like phones in there too without any problems. Some of the time we had to play bag Jenga to ensure it was all in there & nothing was squashed but it was all fine.Over the course of our trip we stayed in 19 different accomodations, and only ever left the Pacsafe secured in our room. We attached it to all sorts of things - pipes under the sink were a common favourite that worked well for us alongside bed frames, mattress slats, dorm room bunk-bed ladders, sturdy metal shelves and even a door handle (this was the only thing in the room we could find to secure it onto - see photos attached!). We even took it on an over-night sleeper bus with us and secured to a metal pole beneath our feet under the seats in front of us for peace of mind when sleeping. We never took it outside just because there was never a need for it, or we weren't sure if there would be things available to secure it to when on the beach. However I've seen in other reviews & images that people secure them around bike-fences or benches. The locking mechanism seems quite complicated at first and we were both a bit concerned that once locked we wouldn't be able to access any of our items, haha! However, it is very easy to secure and lock and once you know what you're doing, easy to unlock when you're ready. It looks much more complicated when locked and I think that even just the appearance would be off-putting for any opportunistic thieves. I'm pretty certain we just used the standard lock that came with the Pacsafe although for extra peace of mind you could replace it with your own sturdier one with a higher-digit code option. As the end of the trip both my boyfriend and I agreed that the Pacsafe was the best item we bought for the trip and is most certainly worth the expensive price tag for the peace of mind and security it provided. It will definitely be coming with us on all future trips! I would recommend this to anybody, and already have recommended it to several friends & family members planning trips! Happy travels, future Pacsafe buyers :-)

Useful bit of kit and great for peace of mind, especially having been robbed once before when our bungalow in Laos was broken into and our laptops stolen. It's actually bigger than we expected, but when you start to use it you realise that it needs to be. We can fit our 2 small laptops in (Macbook Air 11), a couple of kindles, our travel pouch with spare currencies, credit cards, documents, etc, and external hard drives in. It's easy to use and fairly lightweight, so not too much of a problem to carry around, and will fold over double to fit into a daypack or small suitcase, and would fit into a max-sized carry on case lying flat.Agree with some previous reviewers that it would be better if the lock that comes with it were a 4 digit instead of 3,but it's good enough (we hope!). We use the same lock for our checked in case when we fly, as it's TSA approved. The safe itself is easy to use, just pull the wire tight to gather the top together, hook through the little mechanism, loop the excess around something solid like a bed or some pipework in your room, and then slot the lock through. Sounds more complicated than it is, and although it's not as simple as a straightforward solid safe, that's the price you pay for the portability and flexibility of the thing. If someone had very small hands they might be able to get their fingers in through the top or in between the mesh if they slashed it open, but they'd still have difficulty getting much out, especially if you keep smaller things inside something else. At the end of the day if someone really wants to rob you and knows what they're doing then they're probably going to manage it whatever, what this does is make it very difficult for them and will certainly stop all but the most determined thieves. That'll do for me.Glad we bought it, and would recommend it for anyone who wants peace of mind leaving valuables in their room when travelling, especially if you stay in more budget end and out of the way places as we do.

UPDATE: I used this bag for a week staying in cabins and lodges. With the first use though literally I threw away the awful included lock - silver on silver numbers and multiple stops between the digits, try to unlock that while crouching under the bathroom sink in a dark lodge. I substituted one of my regular suitcase locks, not quite as heavy duty, but secure enough for the purpose, and I could open it.I am both impressed and disappointed by this item. Impressed because the construction seems very strong. It is a bit stiff and bulky, but is light and should be fairly easy to travel with. Disappointed because the dimensions given are misleading. The 5L version says it is for tablets and phones, but I measured carefully and determined that my ultraportable laptop would fit inside. It does, just barely, but two things about the size are not made clear. The neck of the bag is about an inch narrower than the rest of the bag, even expanded to it's maximum size. It's a different material sewn on to the lower part and is just smaller. This is an issue if you've have a close fit. Turns out my laptop still just squeezes in through the narrower opening. The other issue though is that to properly lock the bag you must gather the top very tightly, and that significantly reduces the width of the top several inches of the bag. This isn't really clear from the pictures. With my laptop going right to the edge of the main bag material, I cannot draw the bag closed tightly enough to lock it as intended. I'm not going to return this for the 12L version, based on the bulkiness of the 5L the 12 would be far more than I'm willing to carry. I've devised a kind of workaround where by wrapping the cable several times around an object, instead of just looping it through, it closes the bag tightly enough to keep my laptop secure. The opening isn't fully closed though, so wouldn't put my wallet or passport into it this way, but will still work for my computer.

I can only comment on what seems to be a quality item, that seems like it would do the trick to at least keep a casual thief from waling off with an item. I bought this primarily to secure my 15" laptop while traveling, and it fits in fine with room to spare for other devices (hard drives, electronics, etc). The lock mechanism is a bit weird, but seems to work fine. The combination lock will drive you mad if you forget that the red-line side is the one to line up (there is a 2-sided design tot he number wheels). What surprised me was the lack of places to attach this to in most of the hotel rooms I have been in.The loop cable seems just about the right length.Other reviews that mentioned the fabric could be cut and items pulled out of the gaps seems right to me.Which is a small bummer. but for protecting items larger than those gaps, this thing seems like it's well-made to do that job.I will reiterate other reviews that mention the fact that this will not compress down easily. It will flatten somewhat, but you're not going to fold it up and stash it away.Of course, there is no way to truly know if this thing actually works, but I bring it with me on trips whenever I need to secure items and feel far more secure than I did in the past leaving expensive laptops in the hotel room.

I have the original TravelSafe 100 which I've used for many trips but it was too small to fit my netbook. In preparation for an upcoming trip where I know I'll need to leave things in the car, I initially bought the 12L, but returned it without even opening it, because I could immediately see it was much too big and heavy. Although PacSafe customer service told me that the 5L would NOT fit an 11" netbook, I took a chance on it figuring I'd use it for my iPad and backup drives if it didn't fit the netbook. Well, surprise, my Acer Aspire One 11" netbook DOES fit, with room to spare. For reference, the actual netbook size is listed as 11.22 x 7.95 x 0.925 inches.I can fit the netbook plus an iPad mini plus passports, but the netbook plus a full size iPad (in a case) is pretty tight.I also cut off the handles as I see no use for them and they just add weight and make it harder to pack. I'd hoped it would roll up like the TravelSafe 100 did, but the material is thicker and it will not roll easily, so I will have to pack it flat at the bottom of the bag. Finally, I don't trust the combo lock--never had a problem with the keyed lock so I am using the keyed lock which was provided with my prior model. Fits fine.

Excellent travel accessory, highly recommended when you don't have access to a safe in your travel accommodation.I wont repeat what others have already mentioned, but...One thing worth noting is that the included padlock is very weak, being a 3 digit combination lock you can brute force it by going through the combinations from 000 to 999 in 1-2 minutes. It's also a TSA approved lock which means it can be picked in seconds with the most basic equipment. That said the locking mechanism supports using two padlocks at the same time, although the second lock must have a shackle thickness of 10 mm to 12 mm in order to both fit through the hole and do its job effectively (any smaller than 10 mm and the second lock can be bypassed).I would say that a decent second lock is essential, preferably a key lock rather than combination, and one that is very pick resistant, a good lock will pretty much last forever so it's a good investment.

I consider this critical to piece of mind when travelling. It was so nice to be able to leave valuables behind in my hostel and have confidence that opportunists wouldn't try to take something. Definitely not for serious security, but when you're already staying in a hostel which good security, or when you are nearby (sleeping or beaching), it's nice know you've stopped the grab-n-go variety. I think this has solid construction and does it's job very well. I would highly recommend. My only problem was that it didn't come with instructions with how to reset the lock code. I didn't want to leave it with the default 0-0-0 (which I guessed, it also did provide the current code).I ultimately had to search online for 20ish minutes to find the instructions. Once I found them they were pretty simple, but not necessary self-obvious. A page of instructions, a URL, or a QR code would have gone a long way.

I travel a lot and have had the unfortunate experience of having money stolen from my room (Kingston, Jamaica I'm looking at you). But with the Pacsafe I feel a lot more sure, although sure, a determined thief could probably break into it with enough time and effort (as with anything). It *just* fits my Dell XPS 15 in the Targus Pro-Tek EVA case, along with wallet, passports, and any other small items. Some rooms I stay in don't have an obvious solid fixture to attach it to, so in those cases I lock it to a sturdy part of the bedframe (which also keeps it out of sight). And yes, Pacsafe even suggests that you can keep your valuables in it whilst at the beach, but I haven't tried that since locking it to a palm tree might draw more attention than I'm comfortable with.

I got this for a trip where I was traveling abroad and staying in an airbnb. I'm inherently a very paranoid person, but I had psyched myself out that the airbnb owner could steal my electronics and passports while I was out site seeing. I started searching for some type of travel safe that could at least hold my passports when I discovered this one. This is absolutely perfect. I was very happy to be able to lock up larger items as well like my iPad. I do agree with other reviews that if you're locking up smaller items (like jewelry), you should try to put them inside something else so they can't potentially be slid out the top. I used a zippered case I have for another electronic and it worked great.I'll definitely be using this from now on whenever I travel.

Big and sturdy - just as expected. Pleased with purchase. Couple of areas that could be improved. Mesh netting could be tweaked so gaps between wires not so big. It looks like if cloth slashed then cash, cards and smallish mobiles could possibly be pulled out between mesh, especially with a bit of manipulation. I will solve by putting smaller items in a small lockable box inside - but more expense. Also, why not include a 4 digit lock, as a 3 digit one is quite quick solve by trial and error. I have therefore supplemented the 3 digit lock with a 4 digit alarmed cable padlock, as fixings take both locks simultaneously. Maybe overkill but if I've forked out this much for the bag,I may as well take this last step for the extra peace of mind.

This bag works great. The mesh around the sides also wraps underneath, so that there's no vulnerability to just slicing underneath. Likewise the top layer which you pull together with the metal drawstring, this material is also metal reinforced, so that once you pull it together to lock the back, there's a lot of metal up there to get through to get at the contents. When I was bought this, I had originally been looking for a metal safebox to stick in the car, tied to metal hoops in the boot. I couldn't find a decent metal box of the right size to contain a typical load of a laptop, ipad, wallets, keys and a camera. This bag did the trick. And being far more portable than a safebox,it means that the bag has far more uses.

Very nice and handy portable safe to have when traveling anywhere. If I’m by the swimming pool area. I just use this to put my wallet and cell phone in the Pacsafe. But I use a Vaulz card index box to lock up my wallet for extra protection. But when I wrap the cord around, I usually wrap around to something, like a chain link fence, a chair or even a pole, then placing the lock through one of two holes on the bag for extra protection. I use a key padlock on my Pacsafe. I think placing something inside on top of your values and then locking the bag up is safer, than just putting your values in there. Because it would be harder to break in the bag, which is my thought and experience.Highly recommended.

This bag is great for storing valuables in a vehicle or just about anywhere. I was very much surprised and pleased at the quality and toughness of the bag and hardware. It is much more substantial than I had envisioned. Of course, someone with the right tools could steal the bag or its contents but it would not be so simple. The ordinary thief walking around will not likely have on them the needed tools to steal or penetrate the bag.I did replace the lock with a much more substantial keyed one since it will not be going thru any security inspectors that might need to open it. There are quite a few much more secure locks that will work fine.Excellent product and I do plan to order another onesoon.

Purchased for a trip to Madagascar and came in extremely useful in a number of lower class hotels and whilst on the road. The combination of this and a couple of steel lockable wires did the trick to secure our valuables and cash. As others have said, this safe is surprisingly roomy and easily took my iPad mini, a bridge camera, two smartphones and a wad of banknotes with room to spare. Had a problem with the first travel safe received (the padlock had already been set to an unknown combination) and it took some emails and phone calls to get the seller to agree to send a replacement, but wouldn't be without it now for adventure holidays. Takes up very little room when empty too.

This is big! I was able to load this bag up with all kinds of stuff for myself and four friends while on vacation. We had a couple rooms that were without a safe and were able to attach this to bed frames to keep our goods locked up while away. We were able to put passports, currency, phones, Apple Watch, full sized camera, a sentimental plush Clifford (gotta bring your lifelong homie of vacation), and tablets all at the same time. I did replace the lock with a different one though, but only bc TSA locks have that universal key lock and I didn’t feel that was a good idea for a portable safe. It is a bit rigid though and will need to be stored and transported flat.
