Just before Christmas (2019), I went to my cutlery drawer to get my trusty peeler to peel the spuds for dinner and couldn't find it. Gutted. How can something like that have disappeared? After interrogating the kids to find out if they've used it for a random weird project and still drew a blank, I've had to order a new one of these. I'd had one of these peelers for many years now. I find it easy and comfortable to hold, it's sharp so neatly peels the skin of assorted root veg very easily with minimal effort. I've got various other styles from I can't even recall where from but this is my go to. I can peel a stack of spuds for Sunday lunch for 8 people in no time at all.It claims to peel "even the toughest fruit & vegetable skins".Some of the fruit I've peeled include oranges, lemonsand butternut squash (yes! butternut squash is a fruit!!) and that was easy to do. I've also peeled all the normal sort of veg you'd expect, spuds, carrots, swede, parsnips, etc. All were pretty easy to peel.The handle shape is slightly elliptical so it doesn't spin around in your hand. It's also made of a type of very grippy rubber that has a series of slits along the length of it. This gives you a very sure hold on it whilst peeling and makes it easy to manipulate it to peel even those gnarly shaped ugly vegetables that suddenly went trendy after Jamie & Jimmy made us sad about only buying straight and regular shaped veg. The product blurb says "won’t slip, even when wet". I can verify that this is true. It's still super-grippy even when it's wet, my hand is wet or they're slick with potato... water/starch/juice/slightly white wet stuff you get off peeled potatoes.It's symmetrical in shape with blades on both sides. I'm right-handed but I dare say that it would work just as well for someone left-handed. I've not had an opportunity to get any of my left-handed friends to peel my veg to verify this though.The end of the peeler as a small, sharpish, plastic scoop type feature, the "eye remover". That sounds a bit grim so I've not done that but it's great at removing the minging black bits on potatoes.I can confirm that years of use and going through the dishwasher hasn't harmed it in the slightest. Before my original one randomly went on walkabout, it's been through the dishwasher countless times and always looked as good as new.Both my original one and this new one came with a small plastic cover to go over the metal blade section of the peeler; the business end. This is fine but frankly irritating when it's just lying about on your work top until you're emptying the dishwasher. I never put it back on my original one and despite being in a drawer with all manner of other utensils, it never got damaged or the blade nicked so I don't think it's necessary for the protection of the peeler. It has the aforementioned big rubbery handle. Just as that's great for holding it securely, it's also great for picking it up so I've also never gut, scraped or nicked my finger with the blade either. I can therefore only conclude that it's to keep it all shiny and nice during transit. I've therefore sent the peeler sheath in the way of the first one, into the bin.As mentioned, I keep it in a drawer rather than use the large in-handle hole to hang it on something. I'm sure you could use it for that but I prefer to hang photos, paintings and maybe a clock on a wall, not vegetable peeling kitchen utensils.I highly recommend this product if you want to peel fruit and veg.

I regularly cook large amounts of food to freeze, several weeks worth of meals at a time. Every few weeks I set up the kitchen, sharpen my knife and process a lot of vegetables. Having large hands for a woman I am very fussy about kitchen gadgets, sometimes they seem to be "Woman sized" so that does not help me or men working in the kitchen.This peeler is a good size for me.I have used a similar one for a long time and lost it one day. I still had my old fashioned peeler but after a couple of weeks when the newer one reappeared I was very happy.I personally don't use the little part on it that sticks up to remove eyes. I cut the old chips up and watch out for the eyes and cut them off then.This black peeler is actually more comfortable to use than the other one which was white and I got free attached to a new can opener.I find this type of peeler excellent when peeling

Previous peeler purchased in1982 by Mrs Hoggers whilst at college in the 1980s, finally gave up the ghost last week, when tackling a particularly stubborn ( oddly misnamed) sweet potato. This is by a long string of beans the best peeler out there, it peels potatoes the way an angel sings, soooo sweet!, I've heard people have cut themselves on it so was a bit leery of it at first ( and it IS sharp ) but I peel potatoes the old fashioned way, thumb on the top so as to retain full control of the half peeled slippery potato, it comes with a small plastic guard, which might be necessary if you disrespect it and just bung it in a drawer but IMHO it is worthy of being hung on the wall in pride of place along with all those natty must have chefs knives. The rubber grip IS a little large so people with smaller hands might struggle but for a woman I have hands like shovels so no problem there,

Let me start off by saying that I am half Irish and I have grown up eating potatoes all my life and they are still part of my weekly almost daily diet. Needless to say when I was old enough I was put to work peeling the potatoes for dinner, so I have many years of experience in peeling potatoes, which would you believe it came in handy today. :)Where some people prefer the french peeler, I would really like to recommend this one and I have even convinced my girlfriend to change and it's the only one she will use now. It is easy to hold within your hand and will not slip if it gets wet because of the plastic and non-stick grips on the side.

I purchased this peeler to replace a metal y peeler i bought in Sainsbury's about a year ago, before that peeler i had a oxo peeler like the one i purchased from Amazon, what a big problem I had looking for a oxo silicone soft grip peeler, I went to every store that sells kitchen things in our town were we live, no one had them, so ended up going to my saviour store Amazon! they had them, so quickly ordered one and also ordered some baking roasting tins I needed, my old ones were getting a bit passed it, so ordered a set of 2 roasting tins and a Lakelands big roaster tin, i ordered them on a sunday evening, i opted for free delivery were supposed to come on the wednesday and to my surprise they arrived the following day,

Had one for almost 10 years and the blade eventually wore down which was fair enough...trundled off the the local shop and bought a generic brand 'Lancashire peeler' imagine my disappointment when it dug into the potatoes, peeled far too much off, dragged along the skin and had a loose blade. This shreds my washing up sponges, cuts bristles off the washing up brush, cuts through skin instantly. It is also an incredible peeler, peels butternut squash, tomatoes, kiwis, avocadoes and it cuts through the skin of the humble potato like butter. Hence, as you will have gathered from the other reviews as well as this one, this is not a toy, or just a cheap and cheerful time saver in a kitchen. It's a professional standard tool which you should use with due care and attention as you would any other sharp kitchen tools.I also have the serrated version, which I've found useful for roast veg as the peel pattern it leaves has a high surface area which the roasting oil can get into and crisp up the veg when roasting.

This is the 3rd peeler of this type I have purchased, this one was a replacement for another that had broken and I've got to say that both my wife and I are really happy with it.My wife has slight gripping problems and the handle is perfect for her, almost no pressure is required (heavy pressure was/is needed for both the other ones) and thankfully, the peel Does Not stick to the blades (95% of the peel simply falls off), so there's almost no wasted time with keep having to shake the peeler clear before carrying on (a problem I've got with both of the others I've had), not forgetting how sharp the blades are,

I bought this peeler after getting tired of the really cheap ones breaking after a very short time and thought it was time to look for something a bit better. The reviews were good and the price was fairly low too, so I thought it would be ideal. And I must say I'm impressed!I like the chunky grip, it feels like a good quality item. And it's sharp too! It peels through many things effortlessly. Potatoes, carrots, and as I just found out, fingers! Didn't even feel it... It's amazing how long it takes a peeled thumb to stop bleeding... So while I'm standing in my kitchen after applying a large plaster and a makeshift tournequet, with my arm raised high above my head wondering how long this is going to take to clot,

I realise that it's a bit sad when you can get excited over a vegetable peeler, but I have to admit that I am. I bought it three months ago, after I managed to lose (probably thrown away with the peelings) beloved old Lancashire peeler. I've waited a bit to review it until I had given it a bit of use. I had tried a couple of other Lancashire peelers in the interim, but they felt awkward, and tended to gouge the vegetables. This Oxo beauty is just extraordinary. I've tackled all sorts of vegetables and fruit and found it universally effective. I know it's got a swivel blade that some users complain about, but I have actually not been conscious of this.

Absolutely can not recommend this peeler enough! I brought this peeler after moving out into a place of my own. Previously at my parent's house we had been using a very broken old peeler simply because it was the best of the various peelers that we had purchased and tried over the years - seriously there were 4 in that house. After I moved out and needed to purchase various kitchen utensils I wanted to get the best peeler available. I came across this OXO one, read the reviews, purchased it and have been very happy with the quality and time it saves by making it easy and quick to peel veg and fruit. It's been 5 years since I brought it and it still works as well as it did when it was brand new.

It’s approaching week 8 of lock down here in Sunny London. 11 weeks at home so far and counting, I’m amongst the furlough Merlot brigade and finally beginning to relax in Costa Del South East London. Now let me tell you, few things over the past two months have given me so much joy as this item of wonder. I am completely in love with this genius gadget, I got through peeling a butternut squash the size of 2 rugby balls in no time at all. I’ll now never need to microwave the gargantuan beast to soften it again. It got to the point where I was looking around for what else to peel, although I’m glad to let you all know I stopped short of peeling my own flesh off.

I have been using Victorinox for years. My mom used to have a favourite Victorinox peeler while I was growing up. So you can imagine that I ordered this one with a lot of doubt in my mind, thinking that this one won't live up to my standards...How wrong I was! I found this Oxo peeler was terrific from the get go. It's light, easy to grip and the double sided blade makes it a breeze to use.I've peeled potatoes with it. It was so easy to peel potatoes... No crampy feeling in my hand after peeling about 8 to 10 potatoes. It was gliding over the potatoes without much effort and did a great job.Today I thought I'd try to shred a cabbage with it and used back and forth motion to use both sides of the blades.
