I bought one of these LED tubes to replace an old standard fluorescent tube in my kitchen. Not all LED tubes can replace a standard domestic fluorescent tube but these ones can. As long as you have a single tube on your light switch you should be OK. It took less than five minutes to install, including the time taken to get the tube and starter out of the packaging and to read the instructions on the cardboard box. Fitting is really easy: turn the light switch off, twist the old tube through 90 degrees and pull it out of the light fitting (if it doesn't actually drop out under its own weight), twist and remove the old starter, fit the new starter which is supplied with the LED tube, push the new tube into the light fitting and twist it 90 degrees to secure it, switch the light on.Now I have instant light when I hit the switch, with no initial flickering and no humming from the ballast inside the light fitting. The light from the tube is a good colour for a kitchen, not very far off daylight (it's 4000K colour temperature, compared to 2700-3000K for warm white and 6500K for daylight). The tube is bright and evenly lit with no "lumpiness" to it. Colour rendering index (CRI) is not great at 80, but that's the same as a cheap fluorescent tube and almost every currently available LED lamp. I can't say that I've noticed any foods looking odd (although it's early days and I haven't done much cooking under the new light yet). I was a bit concerned that the 220 degree beam angle was going to direct most of the light straight down but the lighting appears fairly even all round with quite a lot bouncing off the white ceiling as you'd get with a traditional tube, so it doesn't dazzle. The power saving in going from fluorescent tube to LED isn't as large as going from incandescent bulb to LED, nor is the lifetime improvement, but if this tube actually gets close to its specified 30,000 hour lifetime then you might save a few pennies. The main advantages are instant start, no flickering and no audible hum, rather than significant money savings. The data sheet for these tubes says they're glass. This is good because it shouldn't sag but bad because glass is fragile. However, it seems much tougher than a traditional flourescent tube and this was noticeable when I swapped tubes over. It was shipped in just the manufacturer's thin cardboard sleeve. I found mine lying on the floor of the hallway in my block of flats when I left for work one morning, near the outer door. I can't say for sure that the courier just launched it through the letterbox but it looked that way. If you're worried that it won't arrive intact I'd say there's a good chance it will. (Note that I didn't buy mine from Amazon - you may get a more or less careful courier.)The Amazon listing doesn't give the specs so here are most of them...Part number: Osram ST8V-1.2m-17W-840-EM / 4052899955752 ("SubstiTUBE Value" range)Fitting: T8 tube, G13 fitting, 1200mm lengthPower: 17W, 220-240V, 50-60HzPower factor: 0.90 (minimum)Light output: 1700 lumen (roughly equivalent to a 22W fluorescent tube)Colour temperature: 4000K "cool white" (a 6500K "cool daylight" variant is also available)CRI: 80 (minimum)Beam angle: 220 degrees (half power)Rated life: 30,000 hours (to 0.7x initial light output)Switching cycles: 200,000Country of origin: Made in China (not specified, but mine was)Tube is made of glass.Mine came with the LED replacement starter (the Amazon picture also shows this so it's probably standard).
