I've had quite a few Osprey packs and bags over the years. I’ve always like their designs – they’re comfortable for me. As for this bag, I like ALMOST everything about it. It's large, sturdy, well-made, and the zippers have held even after significant abuse. The end handles are strong and incredibly useful. The sleeve on the top cover is convenient, adding much more room than it seems it should hold, and yet not stressing the bag's main zippers. And, after being dragged for a hundred yards on rough concrete (and occasionally thrown down roughly) by a surly porter, it barely shows the wear. There is a significant overlap for the zippers, to protect it from rain. I saw that some reviewers don't like the overlap, but I found it very useful, especially in the NW, and in winter conditions. I don't find that it interferes with using the zippers at all. There is also a strap inside with a clip. It might be useful for others; I found it a nuisance, and something that simply tangled some of my other gear. There are small, almost hidden clips in the top corners of the bag, to help secure the top cover. These were very strong, but also stiff, hard to get to, and hard to clip and unclip. However, they added security that I needed on this last trip.So why only 4 stars? Because of 3 issues:1) I wanted – needed, really – a comfortable shoulder strap. Or wheels. Either one would do. The bag is heavy. Really heavy. Without wheels or a good shoulder strap, you’re not going to want to carry this bag any distance at all. This is a grab from the trunk and toss it on a trolly sort of bag. Think of it this way: It’s a super bag. For the size, you can pack far too much in it for a normal human to carry. What about those shoulder straps in the top pocket? Well, they’re designed to carry the bag like a backpack. They’re not comfortable on one shoulder. They’re definitely not convenient as a grab-and-go, move the bag along, strap. They’re like any backpack set -- lots of straps and pads all over the place. That’s great if you’re actually walking around with this on your back, but again... The bag is heavy; the multiple straps in the wrong place for a shoulder strap -- it doesn’t work for me. In transit, the straps were always confusing, always getting caught on something. I have needed a single shoulder strap over and over, on every trip. For me, it’s a problem. The bag is the exact dimensions to let me carry certain gear. I just want a shoulder strap!2) Without wheels (or a single, simple shoulder strap), I saw my bag dragged over and over. The bottom material is hardy, sure, but it’s not going to last many more trips the way it’s getting scraped across every road surface, walkway, and cracked piece of pavement. I would buy an after-market or accessory wheeled cart in a heartbeat.3) There are no clips for ‘biners, luggage tags, or an after-market shoulder strap. This really surprised me. Your only real option to attach anything is to tie the strap around the end carry handles or use a full-sized ‘biner to clip around the handles. It’s a surprising and almost inexplicable lack, and an inconvenience in general.I like the bag. I’ll continue to use it till it rips apart. I just don’t know how many more trips it can take. And I really, really wish Osprey had designed one good shoulder strap for it or a collapsible wheeled cart.Bottom line? For me, it's still highly recommended.

QUICK SUMMARY: The 95L Transporter is too big if you are doing more than carrying it from luggage claim to the car. You are better of going wiith the 65L + a small wheeled carry on for the additional 30-40L. With the 95L, you'll likely end up with 40+lbs loaded (if you fill it) which is too much to carry >0.5mile without a hip straps. The 65L is way more flexible and useful.DETAILED SUMMARY:I have the Osprey Transporter in BOTH the 65L and 95L. I originally bought the 65L as it is small enough to be carried on (if you don't fill it out and no one looks at the exact dimensions) but it can carry enough gear for up to a week in the summer. Then, recently,I had a weeklong trip in the fall/winter where I needed a range of gear for hiking and dress clothes for business and we would be travelling exclusively by planes, trains, and walking in Europe. I didn't want to drag a wheeled suitcase through train stations and trains. . I knew I couldn't get away with the 65L so decided it was a good opportunity to justify a 95L that would also be great for ski trips where I have a lot of gear.At first, I was pleased with the 95L Transporter - it held a ton of stuff, was durable for check-in, waterproof, and pretty easy to pack (it does collapse as you are trying to load it). I loaded it with about 40 lbs and off we went to Europe. My wife, in contrast, was traveling with a 26-inch hardsided wheeled suitcase which I ended up carrying on, through, and off the trains and up / down stairs along with my Transporter. The Transporter was MUCH more convenient for that purpose. That said, at 40 lbs, it made me unstable on moving trains. And it took a while to pull out and attach the straps at the airport where she could grab her luggage and go. When we reached Zurich, we had a 1/2 mile walk to the hotel. Both of us were pretty unhappy dragging / carrying our luggage. My misery was made MUCH worse because I forgot to connect the load balancing straps at the top - that puts way more load on your shoulders. The great thing about this pack is that if you adjust the load balancers and tighten the chest strap, it does take a lot of load off your shoulders. But 40lbs is too much to carry for 0.5-1 mile distances without a hip belt. I admit I was much more comfortable on the way back to the train station (when I had the load balancers connected ).When I got home, I did an experiment before unpacking. I repacked everything in my 65L Transporter + a small roller carry-on. It worked out to 25 lbs in the 65L Transporter and 20lbs in the carryon. I could then check the Transporter and take the carry-on on the plane - less risk of ending up without clothes if luggage gets lost. AND it was far more comfortable to walk with the smaller, lighter transporter and roll the carryon. The roller carry-on could then be small enough to easily go up and down stairs, put on trains, etc.So - my takeaway - I kind of wish I had just stayed with the 65L Transporter. I'll probably use my new 95L for ski trips where I need a ton of gear and am only going from baggage claim to the car. But it really is too big if you have to carry it long distances. Otherwise, I'd go with a small 4-wheel carry-on + the 65L.

I've been using a duffel for carry on for a while now and much prefer it to a wheeled suitcase. I finally got a bigger duffel for checked bag and this has been fantastic. I took it on a 2-week trip traveling around Germany and Italy, with many flights and trains and lots of walking. This bag was SO much better than using a wheeled bag. My wife and I packed all our stuff into this 95L bag then had small daypacks for our carry on. This way I was able to wear the 95L as a backpack and my 35L daypack on my front to get around places like Positano where there are 1000s of stairs and a wheeled bag would be terrible. So, for the application of highly mobile travel, this is an awesome bag.Comfort was quite good! The straps are well padded and I had a lot of weight in this bag but carried it for miles. I've also used it for a camping trip in Moab, UT where it was beating around in the bed of a pickup and was exposed to lots of blowing sand. The bag held up fine and carried all the equipment I needed. Now, about the construction, this thing is quite burly. The exterior coating did get a few scrapes but that's pretty unavoidable and doesn't bother me. No scrapes actually gouged the material to compromise the water resistant coating. About that coating... it did rain heavily a few times while I carried this. The contents stayed dry, even though the zippers aren't waterproof. The layout of the bag I find quite effective. I use packing cubes to organize interior contents, then the one internal mesh pouch is good for smallish loose items (though it fits a lot of stuff). The Exterior zipped pocket is really convenient and was a selling point for me over other similar duffelI love this duffel and it will be my go-to bag for any trip where I need lots of gear or if it's a long trip. For smaller trips, I have the same duffel in 65L :D

This thing is exactly what you can expect from Osprey. Before I bought this bag, I reached out to Osprey. I have their Aether 65 backpack and wanted to be sure it would fit inside this duffel, or if I needed to get the next size up (I think it's the 130). They got back to me within half an hour and confirmed my pack would fit.I had already loaded my pack with all my gear (I was flying out for a backpacking trip) before the bag arrived, and immediately upon arrival I was disheartened to find that no, my loaded backpack wouldn't fit. The whole reason I bought this duffel was so my backpack would be protected through the multiple transfers I had to deal with. Begrudgingly,I unloaded my pack and was pleasantly surprised to discover that I was able to squeeze everything I needed into this bag with room to spare.Since then, this bag has been on five flights, and multiple backcountry excursions hauling rope, ice axes, crampons, and other heavy, sharp, not-kind-to-fabric supplies and it's barely gained some scuff marks along the way. I'm a loyal Osprey customer from here on out!Things to keep in mind are, it's not the easiest thing to load. The sides cave in as you load up. The straps aren't the most comfortable things and it's unfortunate it doesn't have a single shoulder strap option. It's also not the lightest option out there. But really, if you're looking at duffel bags in this price range, you're ruling out the option of ultralight gear.TL:DR; I can't recommend this bag enough. It's durable, large enough for most users, and doesn't get searched like every other black bag that TSA likes to assume has contrabands in.

The Osprey Packs Transporter 95 Expedition Duffel is a deceptively large bag. It arrived rolled into a ball in a carrying case. Remove the duffel and unroll. When you have it fully unrolled, the main compartment is huge and my husband and I shared the bag on a recent weekend trip. We had three pairs of shoes, two sweaters, multiple pants, shirts, toiletries, etc. all packed inside. The bag comes with a little tag notifying you that the instruction book is available online. And you should definitely check it out. After you unzip a few places, you will quickly discover that there are straps to use as handles. Take them out and clip them into place. The material use for the bag doesn't seem very sturdy,as though it might tear. It didn't tear when we used it, and Osprey claims that it will hold up through just about any use. That would have to be demonstrated with time.I guess the only benefit of shipping it in the rolled form, in the smaller pack, is to demonstrate that it is versatile. And for storage. The bag it is rolled into, doesn't seem to provide any service. I guess you could use it for toiletries, but it is just one compartment. Maybe you could keep some of youjr dirty laundry in it.

I bought this size on recommendation from a rep at REI. They didn’t have the product so here I am.Anyway, I have since gotten the 130L. I actually like having both. The bags are so sturdy and I don’t foresee having any issues ever. Well, the chest strap clip broke and it broke rather easily. What I will say is a personal preference. If you need two 95 and 130 are highly recommended by me. As for 95 alone, I have an Osprey Aether 70 XLG. 95L for just that is not even close and I don’t carry a lot. I had to empty the pack to put it in. Wasted space as far as I’m concerned. I had to bend the pack to get it in anyway. Not so much with the 130L plus I’m loading the pack.So now there isn’t just fabric just taking up space.Overall, I am extremely happy with my Osprey products and will continue to purchase Osprey. Thing is, they are so sturdy It will be a long time before that comes around.

Bought to replace an ageing bag which was finally suffering after numerous trips. The Osprey is cavernous and extremely well made. Tested on 3 trips so far, with 2 overseas. It has been thrown around by baggage handlers, and on trains and other public transport, and has been great. If you shove stuff properly into both ends first and pack it carefully, it can hold a significant amount. I overfilled mine with a load of heavy photography gear and managed to give myself a bout of costochondritis lifting it out of the boot of my car! The bag survived OK, though... Lost a star because of the lack of meshing to help prevent sweating when carrying as a rucksack (it really isn't designed for this and I only use that for carting short distances through airports etc)and having only one internal pocket. Other than that, love it! Also looks smart.

Purchased this for a 2 week backpacking trip in Europe and was not disappointed. The bag is roomy and super comfortable considering it was 45 pounds by the time I crammed all of my stuff in it. There’s a compartment to put the straps away which is convenient. I also liked that there’s a zip around “flap” that opens all the way up, makes it easier to see everything. This also came with a little travel case for toiletries or smaller items that you don’t want rolling around. It would be great if there were some more, smaller compartments to slip things in to. I also would’ve liked for it to come with a cover to keep it clean when checking it with the airline.Overall good product and good buy forthe price.

I have been travelling with an old Osprey Transporter 60 for several years as my primary luggage for trips up to a week in length. I love how it can quickly convert into a backpack for walking through the airport and can even go as a carry-on if I don't over-stuff it.I had been using a more traditional wheeled suitcase for longer trips but when it came time to upgrade Osprey was the first and last place I looked. The Transporter 95 is an excellent complement and offers everything I love about my Transporter 60 in a larger format for bigger trips. I love this bag.

For a big guy like me (with big clothes) I don't see how I'll get a months worth of gear in this 90l bag... I probably should have got the 130l instead. But 130 sounded like too much and I've had 90l bags before, so I was expecting this to be just fine... But it's a little on the smaller side then I expected.I also don't really like the lack of side pockets (only one) your small stuff just gets lost in the big bulky compartment.Otherwise the bag seem in good quality and I'll just have to make the best of it.

My son loves it! He has not used it yet, but it seems very durable. It has great features - so versatile with carrying options. The color is bright but not obnoxious. It's very large-it should fit at least a weeks worth of clothes and such for vacation. I gave 4 stars because it was missing the stuff sack. Osprey has an awesome warranty but they told me to contact Amazon about the stuff sack. Amazon says to contact Osprey...so I'm stuck without a stuff sack to store the bag.

Truly excellent. I had slightly different requirements than most. We roller-blade to Central Park and play up to 7 sports with my 6-year-old son. Had to have pockets, comfortable shoulder pads and rain-proof. This is just about perfect, another easily accessible interior pocket would have been the cream de la cream. Since I'm on rollerblades, the strap between the two shoulder straps was mandatory. Why buy an inferior product when your time and safety are so valuable?

Bought this for a trip to Iceland where we were traveling in a camper van. Filled this bag with heavier cold weather gear, backpacking meals and booze to offset some cost due to the high prices in Iceland. Traveled well and shows no sign of wear after the trip, even though I had it packed very heavy. Which you need to keep in mind if you have to carry it far. It's a great bag though. Have an overlanding trip coming up, may update more after that is over....

Roomy, rugged and water resistant. Perfect for canoe trips, boat trips, camping, etc. Right out of the box you are struck by how well this is constructed. This is high end gear right here. The ability to use as duffel or a backpack (or both) is awesome. It comes in a case and it folds up to surprisingly small, like basically shoebox small. This bag is so nice it will make you want to make plans for a trip as soon as possible.

I own multiple Osprey packs and this is no exception to their durability. I normally get Osprey pro deals, but needed these one immediately. Arrived on time and put it to the test. I take this bag back and forth to Afghanistan where it faces many beatings. It is drug from plane to plane and vehicle to vehicle. There are no visible distress marks and it's been tossed around quite a bit.
