I have an active, now 16 month old border collie that happily ate this food as his main meal/diet throughout his puppy and junior months. I have recently transitioned his food to the adult versions of this brand. I waited to review this food so I could give a fair and honest opinion of the long-term use, effects and pros or cons of this food.I divide his daily gram allowance into portions, reserving some to use as treats as it's dry I often give it as what I call 'fun food', placed into a brain training puzzle game or into a slow release treat dispensing toy, turning meal times into something more mentally beneficial, rewarding and challenging. Border collies, working breeds and many other intelligent dogs tend to get bored and thrive off challenges etc. If your dog initially refuses his food or has an off day, simply change tactics and try to make it more fun, (increasing the interest and value of the food for your dog). This food has a Calcium (Min.) 1.4 %, Phosphorus (Min.) 1.1 % ratio. (The same ratios are also in the adult versions). This is the ideal balance for calcium and phosphorus and essential for ideal growth and development and protection of the joints as well as a healthy skeletal system. I noticed on visits to the vets for health checks that on the weight scale my dog was on the heavier side for his size and breed even though he is actively very lean and trim. The vet was very happy to see this as it indicates a very healthy bone mass - preventing fractures and joint problems and developmental issues - Something that's becoming more and more prevalent and problematic especially in younger dogs in recent years.I fed him this food in accordance to his daily feeding allowance on the packaging guide, reducing the amount slightly so I could add some additional quality wet food (mainly for variety and to prevent boredom). Other than that he gets a raw bone every other week and a daily tripe stick a few hours after his last meal.I'm happy and assured that this food is nutritionally complete and rates a high score of 97% on allaboutdogfood.com. The amount of grains and fillers in many dog food brands is a huge concern for long-term canine health and causes many short term symptoms like dry and itchy skin and a dull coat as well as dry and itchy eyes, or weepy eyes etc. A dog I owned previously suffered these symptoms until I made myself more informed and transitioned her diet away from the common brands. There is a reason why dogs produce up to 100 times the amount of acid than that of a human stomach... it's not to break down grains. All in all my dog loves this food and I'm happy with the ingredients and the brand up to now and so I'm happy to bulk buy to cut down the long-term cost a little because it is expensive but in my opinion worth it. His stools are also consistently firm yet moist with zero clean-up mess. He still has a youthful shiny healthy coat, great teeth, clear healthy eyes and no allergies whatsoever. It is a bit of a bugger that the packaging isn't re-sealable so I tear open (where the open tab is) to almost halfway, (or big enough to fit your hand into) and use a stainless steel measuring scoop that you can leave inside the bag. Then fold down the corner and clip with a large stainless steel clip/clamp.

Our 5month lab started to get a rash and scabs from using eukanuba (breeders recommendation), constantly scratched and just wasn't interested in meals times (which for a Labrador is crazy!) after reading up on this and speaking to our vet we both assumed (before an expensive vets bill) it was his food so started to wean him off it and gave him a bland diet of chicken, which isn't practical. We researched lots of organic foods with real meats instead of substitutes and orijen was no2 on that list. I liked that they were a family run farm and that they used real meat, fruit and veg with no junk so we purchased a small treat bag 340g to start to add to his diet and treat times and he loves it!He's excited almost to the point where he has his face in the bag!His rash has disappeared with just a few scabs now left on his tummy and chest and we intend on purchasing a large bag 16kg next.Yes it's expensive but priced with vet bills and a unhappy / unhealthy pup it's worth every penny! Plus he doesn't need that much as we add chicken too. I've also read that they need slightly less (although I can't offer feedback on this part yet) all in all I now have a much happier and healthier pup!Ps: his behaviour was bad too on the eukanuba - he was chewing everything including himself and was generally really naughty (much more than a normal pup, if this makes sense - it was like he had ADHD) he's now much calmer and although still chewing it's his toys and not as much other items or himself!Once he's finished the big bag I will review this further for anyone going through the same thing :)

Our puppy hit 20w old and started to refuse point blank to eat the brand of food she'd been on since birth as recommended by the breeder. We'd planned to switch her over from Royal Canin to something better but she'd been doing really well on RC until refusing it.One sniff of this stuff and she wasn't refusing her food any more. It seems really good food, far more nutrient dense as we feed less weight of this, and we noticed eating this really perked her up within 20-30m, like an energy burst. Also her coat, which was lovely anyway, seemed thicker and softer within a couple of days.We were concerned about a rapid change over as planned to do more gradually but she wouldn't eat if mixed with herold Royal Canin - fortunately this really agreed with her stomach and quality of toilet remained good, but with lower frequency.Puppy digestion varies from 1 dog to another, so it working for ours doesn't mean it will for everybody, likewise every dog that got a bit of wind of loose poo doesn't merit reviews saying 'this isn't for puppies avoid at all costs'Its a rich food and seems superb quality, our pooch loves it and seems to be thriving on it.

I changed my puppy to Orijen from James Wellbeloved after doing my research on a dog food comparison site. I wanted him to have a higher quality food with a good meat content, good veg and herbs without all the starchy filler foods. Orijen fits the bill! I switch him very slowly by combining the two over several weeks (as I had a lot of his other brand to use) and so he had no tummy issues. I’ve noticed a very definite improvement in his behaviour since switching, he doesn’t get hyperactive and has a lot more focus. He’s also stops trying to eat everything in the garden including the lawn, Moss, plants and compost! Of course some of that will be down to his age,but he does still get hyper if he has too much peanut butter etc, so I think diet plays it’s part.

This is high quality dog food and I would highly recommend it to any dog owner. We started our Lakeland Terrier puppy on the kibble given to us by the breeder, but after a couple of weeks she stopped eating it and so we tried several types of puppy food, most of which she turned her nose up at, but this was an instant hit. She loves it so much I use it as a training treat and I am amazed at how good she can be when she wants some of her food! The kibble looks and smells and even feels of superior quality to most dry dog food and it has made such a difference to her coat, which looks so healthy and shiny. I think the fact we now have a healthy, active and rather mischievous pup says it all.

Bought this for my fussy Shiba Inu. She's just won't go for it though. I'm thinking because it's got fish in it. Same with treats. Whenever we give her a choice of treat. One with fish one without. She goes for the one without. So it must be fish that she does not like.Such a shame as there is no denying the quality of this food. From what I've read, it's the best dry food for a puppy you can get. Just wish they did one that was chicken only, or beef only.Update:I've now got some Natural Brewers Yeast powder and sprinkled a tiny amount on it. Now she absolutely chomps it down.

I have given this 4 stars because I know this is a very superior dog food, however, no matter how much I wanted my puppy on this she didn't like it and wouldn't eat it. I have given up with dried food for her as she has to be starving to eat it and I want my puppy to look forward to meal times and eat with pleasure. Nell is not a hungry dog and not the least bit greedy even with so called training treats, and I have tried the best, she is more interested in everything and everyone around her. I really wanted her to love this food but it is not to be.

This food is amazing, there’s nothing bad I can say about it , however there was no way I could continue to afford it once my Rottweiler puppy got to 4 mths and weighing 20kg , it was costing me over £80 a month to continue so have had to switch foods , as far as the quality of the food , it really is far superior to any other food , my dog loved it and always enjoyed his meals , his coat was beautiful and he seemed very happy and settled on it

Puppy loves this and seems very happy with it. Kibble bits are very small which suits puppy. This not only seems to be very good value but also provides lots of energy. Our puppy is thriving on this and I wouldn’t swap it for anything else. Out local pet shop tried to offer me several other brands as samples but he turned his nose up at all of them. So I would give this a top recommendation, it’s expensive but worth it.

The best food for my chug. I have tried other brands and they have varying negative effects on his digestive system and health as a whole. With Orijen, his coat is permanently glossy and he's always full of energy. Because of the high nutritional value of this food, I don't have to feed him too much of it so the 6Kg bag last just under a month which to me is good value. This is very high quality food

Since my dog Hugo started having Orijen Puppy, he is a much happier and healthier dog. He was under weight and in poor condition when we rescued him and didn't enjoy any foods we tried. Orijen is more than 50% meat content. He is now perfect weight and condition. Whenever he is fed, it is gone in seconds where as previously he would take hours sometimes to eat his food.

My 4 month old Cockapoo girl loves this food, we were recommended by a friend who has been using it (well the adult version) with his dog for years and swears by it.I researched a few of the bigger named brands and was very disappointed with the amount of "filler" rubbish in most of them. This is more expensive but from what I can tell - you get what you pay for.

Got this after receiving a dog food analysis link given to me by my dog trainer, the food that the puppy came with was filled with fillers. This made her rather itchy, hyper, smellier than a portaloo on a hot day and always hungry. Since switching the food she is so much calmer and hardly any whiff! Bit expensive but worth it.

Orijen is packed full of nutritious ingredients and worth every penny. It is one of the more expensive dog foods but the feeding amount per day is less than kibble that has fillers so it lasts longer. The 11.4kg bags offer the best value. Our bulldog puppy inhales it, and lucky for us it has helped with her flatulence!

This seems to be a high quality puppy food but proved to be too rich for our puppy as she was sick several times shortly after having her meal. Swapped back on to Iams puppy kibble and she hasn't been sick since. It might just be she has a sensitive system but I wasn't prepared to carry on using this product.
