Does a toothbrush need to be Bluetooth enabled? Of course it doesn't - it is a modern feature which may appeal to some but not all. The handle itself stores up to 30 of your tooth-brushing sessions so you don't need to be connected every time you brush. When you do connect to the app it will sync all of your stored sessions and you can view your activity. The app itself has a few interesting features. If you do bring your phone/tablet in with you, it provides a news feed to keep you entertained while you brush - helpful to take your mind of the mundane task of brushing teeth. You cannot select the exact content based on your interests but you can choose the type of content (weather, calendar, news, featured photos, quotes, photo news, video news, facts, my photos, my videos). In the settings menu you can turn off the handle's vibration and you can also change the order of toothbrush modes (so if you would rather have gum care instead of daily clean as your main mode). You can also increase or decrease the timer. Another option available is if you cannot use Bluetooth but want to use the app it can start a session by detecting the sound of your toothbrush (I haven't tested this out yet to see if it actually works or not).So on to the actual brushing. I love this toothbrush. The first time I used it I couldn't believe how dentist clean/smooth my teeth felt. Having been brushing all over the place with my ordinary toothbrush I had to get used to focusing on one area at a time. It recommends that you brush the outside of your teeth, then the inside and then the chewing surfaces. But whatever your order, you are recommended to brush each quadrant for 30 seconds - you will get a vibration indicating that time has elapsed and to move on to the next section. You get a final vibration once your two minutes is up but you can continue brushing should you wish. This brush has three brushing modes: daily clean, sensitive and gum care. I mainly stick with daily clean but have tried the other modes. Sensitive does feel a bit lighter and gum care is more of a massage offering differing pressure. To cycle through the modes you just press the power button (if you are using the app it will tell you the mode you are on/switching to). There is also a pressure sensor which flashes red if you are pushing down on your teeth too hard. Probably something you will do at first if switching from a manual brush. You don't really need much pressure at all to get a good clean and once you have the hang of that you should be fine and not get the ominous red light.I would recommend this electric toothbrush, but if you are not bothered by the Bluetooth capabilities perhaps look at another Oral-B series. The Bluetooth provides a bit of extra fun and perhaps looking through your activity may help you become a better brusher.

I was absolutely made up to get to try the Oral B Smart Series 4000 and even better was it was the 3D white version, but it also came with a spare cross action head so I could get an idea of how both brush heads work differently. Now to start I will say I am a smoker and a coffee drinker so keeping my teeth white is a difficult task. The 3D White brush head features a small rubber polishing part in the centre of the brush and I don't know how it works but it really does help to brighten teeth. I have noticed that within a week my teeth have become at least 2 shades whiter and the clean feeling is something I have never experienced just from brushing at home.I am so made up with it that I haven't even needed to try the Cross Action head myself and have let my daughter use it so this bit of the review is from her point of view. My daughter unfortunately has a genetic problem that means she was born without a number of her adult teeth, so she has been told by dentists that she needs to take extra care of her milk teeth as some of them will have to last her as long as possible, if not forever. Mostly this isn't a problem but keeping her molars clean and healthy enough to last a lifetime takes a lot of work. She is currently 12 and she was excited to try an electric toothbrush and so far she has found that brushing the 3 times a day she has been told too by dentists with the Cross Action head gives her a much better and deeper clean than with a nornal toothbrush. The head is small enough to get into all the harder to reach places and the sensor that shines when you are brushing too hard has helped her to use the right amount of pressure and has stopped any accidents that have happened in the past and caused some gum bleeding. Also with the built in timer which tells you how long to spend on each quadrant of the mouth she has been able to make sure she is brushing for the appropriate amount of time and not having to guesstimate when 2 minutes is up. I have noticed that both of our teeth are cleaner and our guns feel healthier. I have been really very impressed with the brush and would definitely recommend it, especially for anyone who has the same genetic tooth defect as my daughter. I haven't yet used the app with the Bluetooth connectivity but I think it is a great idea for those who want to be able to see how they are doing. All in all this is a great brush and it has helped both me and my daughter to fall in love with oral hygiene again and get visible results of improvement in a short timeframe.

The toothbrush works very well. I'm guilty of too much pressure as I brush, and the sensor and light on the Oral-B Smart Series 4000 prevent that from happening. The timer helps keep my brushing in check as well, since I tend to brush for too long. As for cleaning, the Cross Action toothbrush head does really well cleaning my tooth surfaces, but doesn't get the areas between my teeth. In comparison, my usual toothbrush, the Colgate Slimsoft toothbrush, is great at getting food and plaque out from between my teeth. I'd still floss after brushing either way, but I find that I have less stuff to remove when I use my usual toothbrush than when I use the Oral-B Cross Action toothbrush head.Maybe a different brush head would be better for me.The toothbrush's battery life seems fair. It's been a couple of days since I plugged mine, and it's still going strong. I would take this toothbrush on a weekend holiday with me. However, I feel that the manufacturer could have included at least a travel case for the toothbrush heads, if not the full case like the Oral-B 5000 has.The app works well for my purposes. I like that it keeps track of how long I brush each time, and I like that it has recommended brushing routines, or "journeys".The outer packaging is well designed, with the kit's features prominently displayed so it's easy to know whether the Oral-B Smart Series 4000 is for you. However, the packaging insert is polystyrene. Some may not feel that this makes a difference, but I come from a country where plastic or metal recycling isn't even available so we have whole villages living among the rubbish on top of landfills. I feel that the manufacturer could have done better and used a cardboard insert instead. At least cardboard can be recycled in many countries. The toothbrush charger has a European plug with two round pins. It doesn't make a difference to me as I already have UK plug adapters on hand, but others may want to consider this before purchase.I received a free toothbrush set to review. However, that has not affected my review, and these opinions are all my own.

Oral b smartseries 4000 3D whiteThis is a product that I am reviewing for savvycircle. On unpacking first thing noted was the plug. It was a shaver plug and I don't have a shaver socket in bathroom so I would need an adaptor. Fortunately I had one to hand. Everything was straightforward to assemble and I put the toothbrush on charge and the green light started flashing. It fully charged within 5.30 hours. It comes with 2 brush heads but only describes the crossaction not the 3D white one in the instructions.I downloaded the ios app and tried connecting via bluetooth but it would seem it can't connect whilst charging. Further reading of the instructions confirmed this.So will have to wait until charged. The first day I used it I was puzzled by the brush seeming to cut out but further checks showed that it was a 30 second timer reminding to change place in my mouth. After using the brush for a few days the stuttering which at first was quite annoying, once I got used to it is useful for reminding to change position in mouth, after all.So far the pressure light hasnt come on. I wasnt sure if it was working but after applying pressure it did come on.Using the oralb app is fairly simple and self explanatory but really is just a gimmick. I am using for the purposes of research but in all honestly probably wont remember to do it everyday after the trial.I found that 2 minutes isnt enough time. I know its only a guide but 30 seconds on each 'quadrant' isnt really enough for me. Ive found 4 minutes is better and gives my mouth a cleaner feel.Ive been using the 3d brush head and my teeth look shinier and certainly feel cleaner all day. I dont get that furred up feeling on my teeth that i usually get with manual tooth brushes.Overall an excellent product that I will happily continue to use. It leaves my mouth feeling fresh and teeth looking and feeling a lot cleaner than using a manual toothbrush.

Oral-SmartSeries 4000 3DWhite is a very good electric toothbrush. My teeth actually feel smoother on the surfaces than they do with my old electric brush or a manual brush. I like the light-up sensor that shows if you are brushing too hard - I didn't realise that I was! It is interesting to try the sensitive mode, but I prefer the surface polishing mode. It comes with two different brush heads, a 3D white and a CrossAction one. The CrossAction one seems to clean better. Even with the floss action, I prefer to still use normal dental floss, perhaps out of habit. The battery lasts well. Using it twice a day for over a week, it is still going strong. It is comfortable to hold, and fairly light in weight,as is the charger, so easy to pack for travelling. It is still a bit noisy if you are listening to radio, though! That seems to be the only thing that the manufacturers haven't managed to improve. Everything else seems better. As for the 'Bluetooth for White Teeth' as my granddaughter calls it, it is mainly novelty value, I think. I use it at night, but must confess I don't have time to use it in the mornings, and rely on the 30 second vibrations for moving on to the next quadrant, and the double vibration to signal the two minutes when brushing time is up. It would be great for children to use, though. They always love to be allowed to use a smartphone, and this is a fun app that allows parents to check if they have cleaned their teeth properly. I imagine it would be a big success if the marketing was aimed at children aged five or six years old upwards. For adults, though, I think I would prefer a cheaper price and no app, just the 30 second and two minute vibration timings.

In the modern age when most people have their mobile phone surgically attached to them, it seems fitting to have an app for brushing your teeth! The app helps with timings, monitoring and can even remind you about your upcoming dentist appointments!I used to have a Philips Sonicare, and found the vibrations "tickly" when I first used that, but the oral-b has none of that effect. The handle is a great shape for keeping hold of when wet, although I prefer the longer, more slender neck of the Philips to prevent the "gag reflex" kicking in. The head gives a really "dentist fresh" clean feeling, and there is even a sensitive version of the head if you need it - that coupled with the pressure sensor means it should be perfect for everyone to use.Especially useful for children, is the timer which vibrates at you every 30 seconds to remind you to move to the next area of your mouth - perfect for making sure they get to every nook & cranny!I haven't tried it long enough to see any benefit from the whitening effect, but it all helps as we get older! The charger comes with a section to store the heads in, which means you could theoretically use the same toothbrush for all the family - just have their own head in the holder. It would have been a nice touch to add a travel pouch or cover of some sort though.I have enjoyed using the Oral-b SmartSeries 4000, and would highly recommend it to all ages - thank you for giving me the opportunity to try it out!

It's a long time since I had an electric toothbrush and when I first used it I didn't really like the vibration and wondered if I was going to be able to cope with the sensation. When I had finished using the brush, however, I loved the super clean feeling - like when you've just come out of the dentist - and after a few days I had got used to vibration and no longer notice it.The pressure sensor is a great idea lighting up if you press on too hard, and I have noticed my gums haven't bled as much as they did with a normal toothbrush. Another handy feature is the timer that pulses every 30 seconds so you can judge how long you have spent on each quarter of your teeth. The toothbrush connects easily to your IPhone once you have downloaded the app and it certainly helps you keep track of how well you are caring for your teeth. The design is really neat and doesn't take up much bathroom space although I found the on/off switch a trifle fiddly and it could benefit from having a travelling case. A light on the brush starts to flash when it needs charging and I started using the brush Wednesday night at full charge with it starting to flash on the following Monday but I have found it still works ok for a couple of days after it is flashing. All in all it is great toothbrush and I can recommend it to anyone who wants to make sure their teeth are sparkling clean.

I love this toothbrush. It's been a while since I tried an electric toothbrush but this one has reminded me how clean my teeth feel using it. Initially it felt a little sore after first few days as my gums got use to it, however I've used it on the sensitive mode and it seemed a little more gentle. I'm hoping it is less sore with more use. It is easy to use and straightforward. The holder is handy if you have the space as it is quite large with storage for extra brush heads. I don't have a shaver socket in my bathroom which is a bit annoying for charging but I use an adapter which works fine. I'm not as convinced by the app, although I think it's a great idea I'm not motivated by it.I am not keen to have my phone in the bathroom and the toothbrush doesn't have a holder for a phone (although some models do). I was confused with the 'reward' aspect of brushing my teeth given that it's a necessity but also we have two bathrooms and sometimes I use the other bathroom and another toothbrush which then looks like I haven't bothered to brush my teeth on the app. Generally, I really like the product (minus the app) it's a little noisier than I expected but it really does give a clean brush. The app is a sensible idea but needs to be tailored to each user, a bit more exciting, quicker to load and more user friendly as a little basic.

I've been really impressed with the performance of this Oral B toothbrush the first time I used it I noticed my teeth felt like I'd had a professional hygienist clean at the dentist, they were shiny and super clean. The following morning I was pleasantly surprised at how they still were sparkling white. I have been using this for a couple of weeks now and the I love the feature of it lighting up if you press too hard onto the surface of your teeth (which I hadn't even realised I do a lot) it offers great protection from over zealous brushing which you really don't need to do as this brush does all the hard work for you. The only tini fault I could find is that initially it starts on a slower, softer mode which I hadn't realised and you have to activate the faster, deeper cleaning mode for the best cleaning which maybe could be made clearer but that's only a small thing. If you're still cleaning with a manual toothbrush I really recommend buying this and giving it a go, I'm sure you'll never want to be without it again. Just to add I visited my dentist today who asked me what have I been using as my teeth and gums were in better condition! What better recommendation than from a professional which confirmed to me the result wasn't just cosmetic it was a lot better for my oral health too.

I have been using fluoride free toothpaste for quite some time now, and wanted to make sure my teeth were still happy. An electric toothbrush is good in many aspects, including dosing the right amount of paste. For the past month, I feel very satisfied to have improved significantly my oral hygiene. With naturally weak teeth and a few old-school electric ones later, it seems I am again back on the track. It is classically designed but very lightweight, so also good for travelling (should you wish to carry the set). Comes with two colour-coded heads. To use in a regular socket, an adapter is needed. What impressed me most was the brush guiding me through various programmes, while adjusting the pressure. It is easy to apply the brush too hard at first, but I soon learned where I was going wrong. After a week, the red light hardly came on. The battery held strong, it did not die or weaken in the middle of brushing.I still keep wondering why I did not opt for a good quality electric brush earlier. This particular model was simple enough to understand how it should be operated, yet complex to offer digital monitoring through a smartphone. This is my next step, now that I know how it feels to have very clean teeth again!

I wasn't exactly expecting miracles from this toothbrush, after all there's not much difference between one and another, right? Wrong, this is a completely new experience. The toothbrush connects up via Bluetooth to your smartphone (really simple to do) which then advises you about your technique. It has four settings: daily clean, sensitive, whitening and gum care, it also has a selection of heads to choose from to personalise your brush dependant on your needs. The app displays real time information about your brushing i.e. pressure and when to move on to the next part of your mouth and also give you notice of when your should be changing your brush head.I found it really helpful as it turnsout I was applying too much pressure when brushing which could damage my gums but the information given by the app has helped me adapt this, I still feel like it gives a really good clean though. Using the whitening brush head and a whitening toothpaste I must admit I notice a difference. I am a coffee drinker and the stains definitely seem to have improved.I am hoping that when I next visit my dentist they will see the difference this brush has made to my teeth as well.

I have been using this toothbrush now over the last two weeks and although I was already using an electric toothbrush, I am amazed at how fab this toothbrush is! My teeth feel clean all day, even in the evening when I am ready to brush them again they still feel squeaky clean! Also I love how modern this toothbrush is, how it connects to the app via Bluetooth and you can monitor how long you are brushing for and it really makes you think about how well you are brushing too. I must admit I don't always remember to take my phone into the bathroom to connect it. Especially if I am in a rush in the mornings. But like that it has this feature. The little red warning light when you press a bit too hard made me jump at first but then I remembered reading about it in the leaflet that came with the toothbrush. The different heads that come with it and more you can buy. I have so far only used the whitening head as really wanted to see if it would make a difference and I think it has. My teeth look a bit whiter in just two weeks. Would recommend this toothbrush to everyone, I can't think of any negatives at all.

I've been using this brush for a few weeks now and I am very impressed with deep clean I am left with after every use. My mouth feels cleaner, fresher and a lot healthier than when I was using a manual brush. Even the electric toothbrushes I have used in the past do not compare. I have sensitive teeth so I find the light and noise indicators on the brush help me to make sure that I'm not applying too much pressure and spend the right amount of time on each tooth and area. There is an a Bluetooth feature which helps you to track your brushing including tips on cleaning. Once charged, I found the battery just about lasted a week (two thorough brushes per day).I did have to purchase a plug adaptor for charging this brush as I do not have a mains shaver socket in my home, so bare this in mind when purchasing. Also included was a handy charging stand with storage case for your spare brush heads. Overall, I would recommend this brush over manual and other electric toothbrushes for its modern technology and impressive deep clean even after the first use.

This is the 4000 which was subsequently replaced with a 4000 with Bluetooth. We own both versions in the family. This version has 4 modes (normal, sensitive, gum clean and white polish) while the newer version has only 3 modes. That and Bluetooth aside, they are identical.I went for this version because all the higher models have Bluetooth which really is just a battery draining gimmick. Compared to the lower series (e.g. 2000 and 3000), this offered more modes and a better stand. This the holder for extra brushes detaches if you only need a small charger.Cleaning is fantastic, best electric toothbrush I have owned in a long time and I have had a few over the years. There is a red light at the back of the toothbrush which lights up if you are pressing to hard.Very handy!!Only comment is that battery could last a bit longer! One week max. This also comes with a replacement head which is nice. If you want to try different heads (floss, crossaction, etc) you can. All oral B heads fit on any oral B toothbrush.

This toothbrush is sleek, sylish, light and easy to hold. It gives a superior clean, with the added benefit of a guide (vibration) which helps you to ensure that you are covering all 4 quadrants of your teeth evenly. Very useful! It also has a longer vibration after 2 minutes to let you know that the recommended time is up.A particular plus is the red light which alerts you if you are brushing too hard, preventing gum damage.I felt that the Bluetooth App was a bit gimmicky, but my teenage daughter loves it...perhaps a generation thing!Different heads cater for those with sensitive teeth and the toothbrush is powerful. It does take a long time to charge however, and it only lasts for 4 days or so.No problem at home, but perhaps something that could be addressed?A travel case would be a welcome addition. My teeth appear really shiny and clean and slightly whiter, but given the short time I have tested it I feel that the whitening will be good with regular use.Overall a great product. Highly recommended.
