I had one of the expensive Sonicare brushes for years before buying this. At first I wasn't even looking in this price range, as I mistakenly assumed that only the expensive brushes could give a thorough cleaning. But no, these Oral B brushes do a superb job of cleaning your teeth. Just in a very different, yet equally if not even more effective, way to the expensive Sonicare range. Here is, in ten points, what you need to know before buying this brush:1) If you buy directly from Amazon, the brush you'll receive will not be an "advanced Power", but an updated and superseded model called the "Pro power" model. My understanding is it's just the branding and packaging which are slightly different, yet it's still something you might note before purchase. plus, my review applies to the pro model, which I received, and so you should too.2) Battery polarity is not at all obvious, when you're inserting batteries. It may seem, from looking at the two springs within, like both batteries should be placed with the + facing upwards, but actually only one of the batteries should be inserted this way - otherwise the brush won't work (and you might initially think you've bought a non-runner) - and you'll need keen eyesight to make out the tiny polarity markings, near the base of the battery's cover.3) The way of telling that you're brushing with too much pressure is unlike how expensive models bleep etc. Instead you will realise you're brushing too hard, when the brush slows down (and the motor's noise changes) as you move across your teeth. You must aim to brush so that there is no slowdown in the brush's motor when brushing - as this is the best rule of thumb sign that you are indeed brushing too hard. But fear not - you'll very soon get the feel of how much pressure is the right pressure.4) Unlike the slightly more expensive Fairywill battery powered brushes, these come with no brush head, so when storing it in a bathroom - make sure it's as far from the toilet as possible, or best stored in a cupboard.5) It should also be suitable for children over 3, at least with supervision, and works excellently for everyone. Though it is quite noisy, I wouldn't call it intrusively noisy by any means. You will get used to it, even if it is a lower pitched motor noise than that of the more expensive brushes.6) You will need to use two AA batteries within the brush's base. Just please take care to remove the base carefully using two fingers to squeeze its bottom to release it, and then gently pull. It's easy to do, once you get the hang of it, yet I noticed some people pulled too hard and I read that they caused the base to crack, which really shouldn't happen with just a little patience. Also, I use and highly recommend good rechargeable batteries, and they are lasting around 4 weeks, when brushing twice a day. That is absolutely excellent, as all the expensive self charge brushes from Oral B will last nowhere near as long as that - despite their fancy, non-changeable lithium ion batteries!. I read many who report that they're having to charge their upper range brushes weekly - and this inexpensive brush, in this regard as well, puts the expensive brushes to shame. As for clipping the battery base back on, pls see point (9) below...7) Sure, the expensive brushes come with all kinds of 'bells' and 'whistles' from bluetooth functioning to 'massage' and alleged 'whitening'. However... if you really think about it, paying good money for functions which won't see you getting any fewer fillings in the long run, than if you'd simply used this brush effectively, each day, instead, makes little sense. I'm very glad I realised that fact too, as this brush cleans brilliantly, leaving (as far as the sensation seems to be)a refreshingly 'glowing' feeling all over my teeth - which lasts for at least an hour after brushing. Who needs all the frippery - when it's really about how well your brush cleans in the long run?8) The expensive brush I used up to now, definitely gave a smoother, more 'refined' (if you will) vibration, which some may very much like, but within 4 or 5 sessions I had fully adjusted to liking the far more "rough and ready" feel of this brush - which certainly feels a lot more intensive when doing its job. What's more, it is actually far easier to tell when you're brushing with too much pressure, when using this brush (see above). And that's a good thing!9) Removing the end cap to replace the batteries is not difficult, or... at least it's not at all *as* difficult as your then trying to replace the cap back on, with refreshed batteries in place again - which will certainly take some force (at least as far as the brush I have), and a great amount of pushing it back on! And that's even when you press the two indented buttons - an action which should open the cap lock, and then allow the bottom battery cap to fix back into place. My tip is to place the bottom battery cap on loosely at first, and then place both hands on the brush handle, while pushing the upper brush onto its base holding cap while using a firm floor. Even then, it might take a couple of minutes (not just a fair amount of pressure!) to snap it back on correctly, but thankfully this only needs to be done with good rechargeables, about once every three to four weeks. Granted, the way the cap fits, is the one and only thing I'd wish were improved about this toothbrush, yet for the price, plus the relatively pleasing infrequency of changing discharged batteries, it's actually not much of a problem at all, yet I feel it's only fair that potential buyers should still be made aware of this. YMMV of course, which means that your brush's battery cap, may easily clip back into place, after changing batteries, however I must review on my actual experience in reviewing any item, that I received.10) For all the above reasons, and on balance, I highly recommend you buy this brush too.Thank you for reading my review and I hope it helps you. As ever, should I encounter anything else which may help you to make an informed decision before buying, I will most certainly edit this review to let you know. Lastly, your questions are very welcome, and I will do my best to answer for you, once I see them.

*** UPDATE - SEPT 2018***I said I'd come back and let you know how long the batteries lasted... turns out the answer is 3 months!! Conveniently it's also about the same time you should probably replace the head too. In all fairness, the toothbrush still works with the original batteries three months later. However, you will notice a distinct lack of power whilst brushing your teeth. On occasion, the lack of power means the rotation stops completely and you don't get results anywhere near as good as before. You'll want to keep an eye out for: Weaker brushing; Poor results; A quieter noise; and an overall sensation that something isn't quite right. At that point, you should probably think about changing the batteries. For me it was 3 months, but I should probably have changed them around 2 months as I attributed the worse results to a change in toothpaste, which probably wasn't the cause. This toothbrush has been with me to Edinburgh, Dublin, Devon, Cornwall and is possibly the best investment in my oral health care that I have ever made. Overall, I still love it and use it daily!*** ORIGINAL REVIEW ***I've been using manual brushes for the last 30 years but apply so much pressure to them that I tend to get through one every couple of weeks or so. As a result, my gums were starting to suffer and it was causing a few other problems.£60+ for an electric toothbrush seems ridiculous to me. My sister has had three or four of the pricy ones over the years because the internal batteries kept dying after so many months. With that in mind I decided to opt for a something that was relatively cheap, compatible with existing Braun toothbrush heads, useful for travelling and didn't need to be constantly recharged. I've had this one for a few weeks now and I can honestly say it's worth every penny!Personally, I hated the concept of electric toothbrushes. I saw them as a waste of money and a prime example of sloth and indulgence in today's society. But after using this one, I can see exactly why they've become so popular. My teeth are whiter than ever, my gums are healthier than ever and I can get to the molars right to the back of my mouth far more effectively now too. The brush itself has a nice weight to it, dismantles into a handy travel-size and the battery is still going after 3 weeks of use. I'll come back and update this when the batteries finally need changing, but from the looks of things, it's going to be a while!Good Points- Better results than a manual brush.- Doesn't break the bank.- Easily portable.- Compatible with the other Braun heads.- Doesn't need to be plugged in overnight after every use.- Gets through airport security without any problems.- Compacts nicely for travel.- Don't need to carry around a charging cable whenever you go anywhere.- Healthier gums.- Healthier teeth.- Happier smiles!- Works fine with rechargeable batteries.- Comes with batteries.- Feels pretty damn powerful.- Available in any colour, as long as it's blue.Not-so-good points- Might be a bit too heavy for people used to lighter brushes, the infirm or general weaklings.- Comes with single-use batteries that have to be thrown away/recycled after use.- When brushing teeth at the back of my mouth it feels as though the neck could do with being a couple of cm longer.Overall, out of all the stuff I've bought over the years, this toothbrush is by far one of the best investments I've made. Easy to use, I can take it travelling without any worries and my teeth are absolutely gleaming compared to my manual years. I just wish I bothered getting one sooner!

I actually like this toothbrush a lot. So why 4 stars then? It doesn't have the timer facility that my other toothbrush (also an Oral B but rechargeable) which stays at home has. And I like the timer function a lot. That aside the brush does everything the rechargeable one does to the same standard. It uses the same heads too which is handy for me as I only have to buy one set. In fact, if I'm being honest, this brush is easier to hold with wet hands due to the rubberised grip being a bit better. Should I reinstate the star for that?Battery life is excellent. I get three months or so out of mine when used (on average) about 6-8 times a week. So somewhere around 70-90 uses on a set? That's using good quality batteries. I'd expect much less on the cheap ones. I've never tried rechargeable batteries in it but would expect them to last at least a month with my usage.Mine has been dropped a few times, once hard enough to snap the cleaning head, left rattling about in the back of my van when I 'lost' it for two weeks, and used to clean a difficult to reach part of my bike once too. ( Yes, i changed the head to do it. Don't want toothpaste on my bike.) It has stood up to this abuse stoically. In fact if it could I reckon it would give me the middle finger of contempt at my feeble attempts to break it.If I do have a proper criticism of it it's that it doesn't come in a travel case which, for a travel toothbrush - my opinion not as advertised - is a major oversight. And it's for this reason that I'm not giving it the five stars it would otherwise richly deserve.

I'm so pleased with this toothbrush. I've only used it once, but my teeth feel cleaner in comparison to when I've used manual toothbrushes.I've used many manual toothbrushes on the market, I have used the cheapest (Primark multipacks, Wisdom, Stores own brands) the mid-range (Colgate, Oral-B, Sensodyne) and the more expensive (Curaprox) and I got mixed results. The cheapest usually have very hard bristles, whilst Curaprox has soft bristles which is good - if you don't need to brush away large food particles. I usually go for the Colgate 360, but bought this on a whim. I'd heard that electric toothbrushes cleaned your teeth a lot better than manual ones, but watching a friend charge his in his car whilst we were camping seemed really silly to me. I'm on the go a lot, I do a fair bit of travelling and manual toothbrushes make more sense when you are in remote areas (or even just places where the room you are staying in doesn't have a plug in the bathroom)But because this runs of 2 AA batteries I wouldn't have any issues taking this with me.Sure, it's a little bit heavy but it's portable, I only need two spare AA batteries. When I'm at home it's not a hassle at all.Plus you can change the head, which you can't always do with electric toothbrushes that run on batteries (so you'd need to throw the whole thing away which is rather wasteful) and it has a rotating head which cheaper electric toothbrushes don't haveI'm very pleased with this toothbrush!

This item seems to work almost as well as the standard rechargeable Oral B's. (I've owned an Oral B rechargeable for years - the same unit, amazingly.) The battery model is, however, powered by 2 AA batteries so it lacks a little of the "oomph" that the rechargeable has immediately off the charging station. Nevertheless, I was pleased with the portable's operation. I noticed one review that complained that pressure on the brush head renders the brushing action negligible. My dentist told me a long time ago that the Oral B brushing action is not designed for the application of pressure, just gliding over the teeth firmly. Of course, one should honor the 30 second per mouth quadrant brushing action when possible for the best results.I point out that the item is somewhat bulky for a travel item. There are Oral B brushes that are electric and resemble traditional toothbrushes which I have used but do not accomplish the same result - they just vibrate. I would recommend this item, particularly for travel on a longer trip and if there is room for it in your luggage, but might opt for the stand model for everyday use.

Bought to go camping but at first, using the batteries that came supplied, it ran too slowly. I own an Oral-B mains rechargeable toothbrush for comparison. I repurposed this as a cleaning brush in the kitchen. It was cleaning around the burners on the hob when inexplicably the motor started whirring a lot faster. It saves some effort when cleaning - that's got to be good.I might take it camping, to clean my teeth with...but will change the brush head first :-)Very pleased with this, provided the fast brushing speed is maintained. The different motor speed seems to be a manufacturing issue, judging from other customer reviews, and means I can't fully trust the brush.I like that it stays on when you press the button,so you don't have to keep holding it in.I'll use rechargeable batteries when the existing ones die, for the most economical upkeep. It stores neatly in this strong magnetic holder ASIN B00020V9AI.

I purchased this as a temporary fix as my old expensive Oral B electric brush is over 19 years old and coming to the end of it's natural life. But I was very surprised as the power and brushing motion were exactly the same, so jobs a good un. I find using every day with the occasional dry clean whilst watching tv is the most effective. As it gives your teeth a real good clean and gets in them real hard to reach gaps normal brushing can't cope with.If you are getting in your late 40's and your gums have started to recede, then this is for you. As brushing with the incorrect brush can be actually worse than not brushing at all.Well recommended for the price, a cheap fix that will be become a permanent one for many, like me.If you found this review useful then please click the helpful button below, and be sure to check out our other reviews of products you may also consider purchasing from Amazon. My husband and I have tried a few other brushes along these lines. One of which (Colgate) About the same price, may just as well have been sold as a regular toothbrush. THIS one - we originally bought the dual pack, his died for some reason before mine did - but we're talking after a year's worth of fantastic use and WELL Worth the investment. Why his died and mine didn't - we're not entirely sure. The thing is I DID go for a different style 'head' for this brush when they needed replacing. Can't help wondering if this caused the demise. Mine did eventually die. but who's to say! All I know is we've both gotten new one's and VERY glad to have them again. The colgate brushes are in our bathroom baskets as back ups.Highly recommend, and my dentist has noticed too. (I DO prefer a larger head, but this - reallly does a fantastic job! Feels like I've just come from the hygienist!!

Well what can I say but I have had rechargeable brushes but they are not a patch on this bad boy or girl, well it arrived in that easy to open packaging which was a blessing, thinking it would not be much good given the low price I paid for it but boy was I wrong inside your mouth is feels like a jack hammer going around your teeth, I am a smoker all be it a lite one but you get a stain on a tooth which standard toothbrushes do not remove it so I had a rechargeable one but that did not make any progress, so I put this one to the test after two attempts with this one the stain was gone, I am very impressed with this brush and the refills are very cheap £2.99 for eight brushes, given the brush will last you about 3 months I would say that's a great bargain recommend you buy this brush and feel the difference it will make to your mouth, you get results in no time at all

Overall a very good product, i normally use this either when travelling or at someones house as buying AA battery's is an easier option than finding a shaver outlet to plug my normal oral b toothbrush into.It is very good at keeping my teeth clean however it is not as powerful as my normal oral b one but that is to be expected, with AA i would say it lasts around a month or so with twice a day usage. The battey's it comes with do not last long at all so I would invest in some nicer ones. You will be able to tell when the battery is running low as the device itself will be getting weaker and weaker. However i visiting the hygienist a month ago and have been using this since then and no plaque has formed since....sooo i guess that could be my mini test? The bottom can be hard to get off though.

I bought this toothbrush after the dental hygienist suggested I invest in an electric toothbrush.Up until now I was resistant the idea thinking it to be a bit of a fad. Once out of the packet and the batteries, which come included, I commenced the trial run.The small rotating brush head does not hold the amount of paste you will be used to coming from a traditional toothbrush. That said, you do not need that much anyhow. The motion of the head is very deliberate and has not caused any discomfort or bleeding. My teeth have felt clean and I am surprised that the device actually gets to places my regular toothbrush appears not to - even with pushing deep into the molar region. The only con is that the handle is rather large, again compared to a traditional brush. All in all I am happy.

I had an Oral B power toothbrush some years ago and then got fooled into buying a Philips Sonicare which never really suited me. When that gave up the ghost (only a few years into buying) I couldn't go back to a manual toothbrush but opted for a really cheap toothpaste brand battery model. This was close to useless and so when I saw the amazing price of the Oral B toothbrush on Amazon I was delighted! The other toothbrush went in the bin and this has been like welcoming back an old friend. As one of the other reviewers notes, it's not inferior to much more expensive models. It works well. I hope the battery length is as good as some people have experienced! It's confirmed my original belief that the Braun Oral B is a really excellent way to have a power toothbrush without spending a lot.

This is the best battery powdered portable unit out there. It's more powerful and for my taste has better brushing action then any of it's competitors. One of the features I really appreciate is that it sits upright unlike it's chief competitor whereby you always have to maintain a very clean space.just to store it. I used this brush years ago and when re-ordering I thought I was getting this brush but I mistakenly ordered from the competition. ed. What I found really amazing was that it shipped all the way from England to California...why that occurred I have no idea but shipping wasn't extra. I like the on/off switch far better then the competitions plus I'm always amazed at how long the batteries last in this unit at full power.Truly a well designed product in all regards.

Am amazed how good this is for the price. My teeth feel much cleaner after use than they did when using a manual toothbrush and after 3 months use have started to look noticeably whiter. It comes with batteries and when they ran out, I started to use rechargeable ones and get about 3-4 weeks use out of these. The head lasted about 2 months before it needed replacing. It feels comfortable in the hand and does not weigh too much, making it easily portable for travel - should the batteries rum out mid trip, it is still usable as a manual toothbrush. My only complaint would be that you can only buy it in one colour, so impossible to differentiate it from my partner's one! However,I solved this by painting some blobs of pink nail varnish on mine.

I am losing count of the number of power toothbrushes I have had, battery powered or rechargeable*, and it seems not to matter how much I pay for them, they all last about the same length of time, up to three years. So I now simply go for the cheapest Braun, as they all seem to do pretty much the same job. And the D4010 is no exception, it works as well as any other I have had, and is probably the most comfortable to use due to the larger, shaped hand grip. I did initially think the deep grooves in the hand grip would be difficult to keep clean, but this has proved not to be the case(*I no longer pay the extra for a rechargeable toothbrush as I find they last no longer than a battery poweredone - I simply use rechargeable batteries instead)
