OPI Chip Skip Manicure Prep Coat is a good aid to improving the length of time your manicure lasts. I have had it previously applied professionally and know it does aid the length my manicure lasts, It works simply by leaving a base for the actual varnish to attach to, like a primer which I use before my foundation, this goes on very thinly, to be exact it is so thin it is barely noticeable. I have noticed my nail polish does not chip compared to when I did not use this, this is especially noticeable at the tips of the nails.Why I like this particular prep coat is that it is so easy to apply, the actual brush is tiny compared to the normal OPI nail products.

The OPI Chip Skip Manicure Prep Coat is a de-hydrator for the nails which preps the nail ready for applying nail varnish.In essence what the ‘Chip Skip’ does is primes your nail surface and then helps the polish to adhere to the nail by removing the excess oils on the nail. Furthermore, the ‘Chip Skip’ also contains wheat protein and calcium which are supposedly absorbed into the nail to help strengthen it.The chip skip comes in the usual OPI style of bottle, with an easy-to-grip lid and an appropriately small sized brush so that you don’t apply too much of the chip skip to the nail.Application is just the same as if you were applying nail varnish.

I am so pleased with this! I use a fairly discreet nail polish as my hands are full of arthritis and I do not like to draw particular attention to them, but do like to look well-groomed. As, in recent years, my nails have become quite ridged and this spoils the look of polish. I always use a base coat but that is not always enough to avoid the ridges showing. This layer, being put on first, helps with the problem and its consistency does seem to smooth out the ridges so they are less noticeable on the finished coat, which does last a bit longer too, which is also helpful as putting on nail polish has also become more difficult as my hands deteriorate. The prep coat goes on smoothly,

I used this underneath my base coat then did my nails four days ago and there is not one sign of a chip or peeling, I don`t even wear gloves to wash up so normally would have some chipping by now.Unlike any other treatment I have used this one is thin, like water, and the brush head is tiny. To coat every nail I had to dip the brush more than once and being colourless it is impossible to see where has already been done, for this reason I don`t think a bottle will go very far but time will tell.The base coat, nail polish and top coats I used were all from another range so this is not just for OPI fans.Dark colours are particularly difficult to keep chip free,

This is the "secret" product that was used on my nails when I had them manicured at the local training college ( a great place to get a cheap manicure and help the trainees develop their practical skills).It is a thin base coat that helps the polish adhere better to your nail. It is a lot thinner than standard nail polish and I did wonder what the point was, but the manicure lasted quite a bit longer than I expected.Being thin it does not bulk up your varnish ( I have found several layers on my nail causes a thick coat which instead of chipping simply peels, so keeping things as thin as possible avoids this) but it does keep it in place longer.

This is an under under coat that you apply to your nails prior to your base coat the idea being that it's supposed to help your varnish stay on better. The consistency is very liquid - water like and it's hard to see where you've applied it as you can't really see it once it dries. Then you apply your base coat, colour and top coat. This is one of the trade secret type products which can help maintain your manicure for a bit longer. I felt it didn't stop chipping entirely but that the nail varnish fared better. It would be ideal if they could create one step base which has this property - as doing an extra step can be a bit annoying especially if you apply 2 coats of colour!

Opi is a respected brand & My favourite brand for polishes, more recently I've tried their other nail products & despite the price this ones a winner.The product is a liquid that sinks into the nail immediately & there's no drying time.I used instead of a base coat & found it smoothed my nail out as easily as my usual nails inc base coat, since this dries immediately it made doing my mani much quicker than usual.I definitely found my mani lasted quite a bit longer using this. Although it's not really obvious why, maybe the polish just adheres better.I tried this product with opi polish as well as other brands & it works just as well either way

My wife's one indulgence in terms of make up is her nails. So she has a large selection of lotions and potions along with varnishes which are all designed to keep her nails in good health. This is like providing an undercoat in decorating that enables the coat of varnish to adhere better to the surface. It also provides a strengthening layer that should prevent the top coat from cracking. It can also be used as a top coat, but there are better lacquers out there if you want that extra layer of protection for your varnished layer. This is a really good undercoat/strengthener that does exactly what it says on the bottle.

This is the 'missing link' in home manicures. It acts as a secure primer, a strong base for any colour varnish you choose. It acts to stop chips and really maintains your polish for a good 5-7 days. It applies easily and removes with a standard polish remover.I normally use a top coat, but with this there is no need.OPI is a top brand name...products you can trust. I'd recommend trying other products too....nail envy is a personal favourite as it really works to promote growth and strength.I love this. Recommended.

This is a pre-base coat formula to ensure a chip free manicure. The brush is short, stiff and hard; the pungent formula soaks directly into the nail and doesn't form a coating, as is usual. It does mean, however, that you'll require a total of four bottles to complete the process.I have just applied it, so I cannot tell whether it's effective at time of writing. I will, however, be updating my review when my manicure starts to show wear and tear.It's quite an expensive purchase in my opinion.

This base coat came at exactly the right time for me - I'd just spent over £60 on Opi products but no prep polish at all.I immediately went to work, creating newly painted nails and, tbh, I'm surprised at the results. The prep coat certainly has stopped the usual white notches appearing on my nails. It doesn't seem to actually stop chipping due to scraping or knocks, but the more usual problem of wear due to (eg) hands being in water, etc has gone.I love this and will definitely buy it again.

This is a product that adds an extra step to your manicure as it is used on bare nails to strengthen them before you apply a base coat. It is much thinner than a base coat and goes on easily. Then you apply 2 coats of varnish and then a top coat. So although it does add an extra step to the process, it does seem to help with keeping your polish on for a few extra days. Bit fiddly but worth it when you need your polish to stay perfect for longer.

I am a fan of OPI products and was keen to try this out. I was initially surprised how thin this is as I was expecting it to be more like a normal base coat but it seems to sink into your nails rather than coat them, so I wasn't convinced that it would be any good. However I was pleasantly surprised as my nail polish really did seem to last longer. This will definitely become a staple for me when doing my nails at home!

Does the trick for my poor oily nails! I have trouble with nail polish lasting a long time - see more than a few days - because my nails are oily and polish doesn't stick to them well. This product ensures I get at least a week out of my polish as long as I'm careful with my nails. It's very thin so I thought it was a rub-in treatment initially. It doesn't bulk out your nail polish. Great stuff!

5 stars because I find this a great product which prevents your nail polish from chipping. I also use OPI nail envy which has improved the quality of my nails so I think that too helps prevent chipping. However this product is an added bonus, and the bottle lasts a long, long, long time. Would recommend this product to anyone who cares about the appearance of their nails.
