I finished playing a full game with my partner not an hour ago, so this review is fresh from the actual experience of this board game to all of you who are thinking of buying this product!Contrary to what other buyers seem to have experienced, judging from their respective reviews, the game is neither too difficult nor to easy to play. The spaces where all the 'ailments' are supposed to be set are just narrow enough for the game to provide the player with some challenge, otherwise it would indeed be a walk in park! All the 'ailments' are included, as is a set of cards. That might be a variation to other versions of Operation as there is only one deck of ailment cards with an item description (in tongue-in-cheek verse)and the value that each 'extraction' will credit to the player(s). Therefore, those of you who are familiar with a distinction between 'doctor-' and 'specialist cards' may be disappointed. However, in actual practice, this differentiation just makes the game a tad simpler without any negative impact on gameplay enjoyability. In addition, the batteries needed are included as well.On the negative sife of things, what prevented us from giving this version a full 5-star rating was the fact that the buzzer does not actually 'buzz'. Rather, the whole board vibrates every time the tweezers touch the metal frames but no sound is ever produced. At the time of writing this, the seller has been contacted and a relevant inquiry has been made regarding this issue as it might just be consistent with this version of the game. An update will be made as soon as we hear back from them. All in all, this board game makes for a very enjoyable experience and this particular version is almost devoid of flaws, and at a good price too!

OPERATION ---ABOUT THE GAME ---Operation was produced in 1965 by Milton Bradley, I have read up on the game and it says it is an update to the good old fashion wire loop game (the one withe the wire and you have to get the loop over it to the other end without the buzzer going off)You can buy this game from most toy retaliers, argos, toys r us, woolworths and plenty of places online it usually retails at about £9.99.AIM OF THE GAME ---The aim of the game is to remove all of the plastic body parts from the board without the buzzer going off.CONTENTS ---set of cards12 plastic body partsboard with tweezers attachedHOW TO SET UP THE GAME ---Take the board from the box (the one with the man on hehe),put the batteries in first 4xAAA batteries.Take the plastic body parts and put them in the correct holes on the board, decide whos going first and then the first person has to select a card and remove the body part which is on the card but be careful if you set the buzzer off then you have to put the body part back in and pass it onto the next person.Keep going until all body parts have gone the one with the most wins!VERDICT ---A fun game to play with the kids they realy seem to enjoy it, and if you have a shaky hand... GOOD LUCK! I can never win this game but its worth playing and i would recommend giving it a go.

It's an absolute classic at a fair price. Lots of the Hasbro classics have long been available as cut price generics but those versions never seem quite as good as the originals; a corner cut here, a confusing change there. We had loads of fun with this at Christmas, with a marketer's dream collection of family members ranging from 5 to 93. Arthur, the five year old, was frustrated at first but when he started lifting out the bones clean he was so pleased with himself. That sense of acomplishment is powerful and positive. Barbara, his great gran, has a steady hand for 93 and loved the test of hand eye coordination. The buzzer vibration is proper deep on this one,a secondary game of setting it off secretly on the table and seeing half a dozen people reach for their phones thinking they'd got messages was good fun.

This has been acquired with the impending arrival of Christmas in mind. Is it a present for a young child? No. What better game to play after Yuletide dinner? A group of adults, all denying the effects of that rather fine wine with the meal (and a few scotches prior to same); showing their dexterity, or lack thereof in a simple game that takes virtually no explanation. If you need the basic tenets of this game to be explained to you, I would be much more interested to hear about life on the planet where you have spent the last several decades. This is such a silly, easy to play game that it demands a place in every home. Now,you must excuse me whilst I get some practice in (I don't want to look a duffer on Christmas afternoon!

Where have all the years gone? I remember playing this as a child ... and now here it is again being played by my daughters aged six and nine.I actually found it quite difficult to 'operate' and more often than not it was me who lit Sam's red nose up with a loud buzz. The demo batteries have lasted well over Christmas but it's worth having some spare.Anything not to like? Well some of the twelve plastic 'ailments' are rather small; we've managed to loose the pencil (it's only about 1.5 mm diameter) and the bits are kept in a cheap plastic bag. However, none of that detracts from a game that brings rather a lot of fun and has clearly stood the test of time!

I played this game around 40 years ago and had very fond memories. Modern versions of beloved games have proved disappointing, but not this one. It has all the original operation shapes, including the elastic band and there are playing cards to instruct the surgeon. It is just as I remembered. I'm still rubbish at it though!!! When you touch the metal sides with the tweezers the board vibrates and the patients nose lights up. I jump every time!It states it is for age 6+, but my daughter is 5 and has the co-ordination to manage this and is sensible enough to play this with supervision.A great game to play alone or with friends.

What a great training tool. I am currently a surgical junior in a well known hospital in the UK. The resident surgeons will not let me near a scalpel, tweezers or those forecep thingies.I can now say I am a master at removing the bread from the bread basket and can remove a broken heart. ( Can't mend it though )Anyways I am about to go scrub up to preform my first surgical procedure on a real human. I have 2 AA batteries to insert into his rectal cavity and I will keep pulling stuff out with tweezers till his nose turns red and he vibrates off the slab.Wish me and my patient luck.Dr Nick Riviera

I work as a children's therapist and I always have a game of operation for using with the children. It's an ideal game for patience, confidence and general fun . I have bought cheaper versions and they are rubbish this is the best. To be honest I think like a lot of games it's a bit overpriced but works far better, the pieces are sturdier , it takes only 2 as batteries compared to the cheaper ones that take 4 .Good also for adults to play with kids as reminds them of there childhood days .Definitely one of the classics for all kids to own.

We had previously bought the newer version which is so laughably easy even our 6 year old was bored after 5 minutes. This is the original version, the one I remember from my childhood, the one that caused tears of frustration and anger. Yes, even as an adult this is still tricky but still hugely enjoyable. I would say that I wouldn't buy for a child of less than say 8, our 6 year old finds it impossible, whereas our 9 year old finds it tough but is able to play.

This caused a lot of excitement in the Bee household, as my partner had never played this game as a child, whereas it was a staple in my childhood! All the traditional pieces are still there for removal - my specialty was always taking out the butterflies in the tummy - and even the tweezers look the same. The patient has a name (Sam) and a new spotty pair of underpants but he still has the buzzy and flashy red nose.I feel like I'm eleven again playing this!

Greatly improved from the original game. Now with a vibrating 'buzzer' in stead of a lord BUZZ boise, much better. The concept is the same,it still has daft names for bones instead of real ones etc.Although this is designed for kids, University students have been known to play this whilst under the influence togreat howls of laughter.Fun as a Xmas after dinner games for mixed ages too, we always enjoy a silly game after Xmas dinner.

I just want to point out that many of the reviews on here say that the gaps where all the ailments are, are too big meaning it's not challenging. There are two games of operation, this one is age 4 plus and there is an older version which would have smaller holes to be more challenging for older children and adults. Check on the box which one you are buying first! I got this for my 4 year old and its perfect for her, she loves it!

I wasn't too sure if my neice would enjoy this as she is obsessed with her iPad however surprisingly she really did. It was easy to assemble. Body part pieces are quite small so I'd be very careful if you've tot any little kids around. I recall having this toy as a child and now to gift it to my neice is exciting...unfortunately, has spent 30 minutes and then got bored.Hit the like button.

Bought for my nieces birthday (age 4) - her mum wanted to play it with her, relive her own childhood no doubt. Looks like it always did but I personally am not keen on the box - didn't like the hole where his nose sticks out and it just felt a bit cheap from how i remember the original one. I'm sure they'll have lots of fun with it though!
