With the release of Oculus Touch to compliment the Oculus Rift the world of Virtual Reality finally has truly refined and consumer ready offering. As an owner of both the Vive and the Rift I've got to say the complete package of the Rift is hands-down an overall a better deal and experience of the Vive's offering. With the Touch now officially released you've got a lot to take into consideration if you're stuck making the decision between one or another, but the choice couldn't be more clear to me, so much so infact that I've sold my Vive. Touch is much more comfortable to hold, offers increased immersion, and is functionally superior to the Vive 'wands' that the entire Vive experience hinges upon. You can find more in depth reviews regarding the nitty-gritty technical details between the Rift and Vive controllers but it also helps to zoom out a bit and examine the overall experience from picking up to putting down the headsets and controllers. Looking at the complete experience there's a ton of attention to detail here that you don't get elsewhere like built-in headphones, a hub that automatically launches when you put on the headset, no settings to configure before each setting with Rift, no falkiness or crashes with the software, and so on. The Vive feels like it was made by geeks and developers and designed for geeks and developers, there's always something to troubleshoot or look up online to figure out why it doesn't work. It just requires mental effort to use Vive. There's none of that fluff with Touch, it just works; Touch and Rift feel very apple-esque from their packaging to ease of use.At the end of the day, there's no point having controllers in the first place if there's nothing worth-while to play using them - but thankfully Oculus has you covered here. The Oculus store section for Touch games has debuted with over 53 high-quality games which I'm still in the process of sinking my teeth into. There's some really great stuff here already like Super Hot and The Climb that you can really start up and sink some serious time into. The Vive side of things is more barren. The vast majority of games are dubbed 'early access' which essentially games the games aren't finished and you're buying them on the vague promise they'll be updated or finished at a later point in time (most of which are abandoned). Oculus thoroughly curates its store and works with developers to ensure all games present on the Oculus Platform are held to a high standard and won't make you ill. The main store for the Vive is Steam which takes a much less consumer-friendly approach. Simply put, anyone can put anything on the steam store which has led to the vast majority of Vive games being literally unfinished, unpolished and ugly, and often times very short experiences that are significantly overpriced. There are only a few good games for the Vive, but most of them already exist on the Oculus store as well. Ontop of that, the Oculus Rift and Touch can play games that exist on Steam, although expect the SteamVR system that you're required to run in order to play VR games on steam to be temperamental and buggy. The Vive however, cannot do the vice-versa scenario as it cannot play games on the Oculus platform without hacking it. Simply put, there and more games, and better games, to get when you buy into Oculus.Oculus Touch is better than the Vive controllers, has more games and better games, and is built to last multiple generations of VR developments. It's a no-brainer folks, the Oculus Rift combined with Oculus Touch is your go-to choice for literally the best VR experience you can buy right now.

By now, I'm pretty sure it's well understood that these are basically essential unless all you do is play racing or flight sims. And not necessarily essential in terms of 'you need them to use your Rift'(though many newer titles do require them), I mean purely in terms of what they add to VR.People may have negative impressions of 'motion controllers' due to Wii or Kinect, but this is a very different ballgame. Even ignoring that the technology is way, way better than either of those by miles, using motion controllers in VR is an entirely different experience. No longer are you acting out abstract/vague motions that get represented on a small window in front of you(often with noticeable latency)or using the Wiimote as a glorified 'pointer', in VR, these Touch controllers allow you have hands inside the game world with 1:1 tracking and absolutely NO noticeably latency at all. What your hand does in real life will feel like it's doing exactly that in-game in terms of tracking. This opens up a level of interactivity just not possible with typical 2d game content. Something like pointing and shooting a gun in VR takes on a whole new meaning compared to doing it by sliding around a mouse or analog stick. The controllers themselves are exceptional themselves, too. For one, they're shockingly sturdy. And there's a reason for that - it's not difficult to accidentally bang them on a wall if you're getting carried away(and it's hard not to sometimes!). But honestly, my wall has come off worse than the Touch controller whenever it's happened to me. Nothing but a bit of a ding on the ring. They also have very well laid out buttons that make access to all of them feel very comfortable, the grip button and trigger feel nice to use and analog stick is not full-sized like on an Xbox/PS gamepad, but large enough and feels excellent to use. The 'capacitive' functionality is quite neat as well allowing you to do basic finger poses, the most useful of which is the basic 'finger point' that you can use to press buttons in-game and whatnot, though all are quite fun to take advantage of in social VR experiences. It seems like such a simple thing, but makes a big difference being able to express yourself to other beings within VR with these sorts of natural gestures. The batteries in these(single AA for each) last amazingly long and it's a small thing but I've never seen a battery compartment latch be so effortless to use! Lastly, the controllers are just super light and the ergonomics are near perfect. They are absolutely effortless to pick up and use.So yea, if you bought a standalone Rift headset and aren't playing nothing but flight/racing sims, get these. You're missing out.

If you've yet to buy these, and you have a CV1, then you really do owe it to yourself to get them. They really do change the experience you get within VR. If, like me, you only had the headset, you would have been very impressed with driving games, for example. Assuming you have a gaming wheel, the FEEL of turning a real wheel to steer a virtual car was one of the more eye-opening moments for me.With Touch controllers, you absolutely get into the VR world. Eleven tabletennis (while unfinished) is easily one of the most realistic things you can experience, as someone else mentioned earlier, you try to put the controller on the non-existent table. When a game allows you to completely suspend reality for a bit,you now it works.However.You NEED 3 sensors. It DOES work with two, but this only gives you a 180° playing area. While your headset will still be tracked if you turn around, your touch controllers inevitably will not. You can buy a 3rd sensor from the Oculus site (£59) and it will work on a standard USB2.0 connection (3.0 is still preferred). You also NEED A fairly large play area. It doesn't need to be an entire room, but it should be big enough to allow you to stand in all directions with your arms out, and then a large step in each direction as well. The Guardian barrier system works well, and certainly stops you from walking into things.Still, it's highly recommended. I only gave 4 stars due to the occasional tracking issue.

Wow. The rift is my first foray into vr and I bought the controllers with it as they are currently a great price and you get some good games with it.What struck me first of all is the quality. From the box and presentation to the controllers themselves. From connecting the second sensor to configuring the controllers it was a breeze!I had no issues with usb 3 as it seems my motherboard just works with it. If you do need additional usb 3 ports then oculus recommend an inatek card. So, the controllers are just perfect to hold. They have lanyards in case of droppage and I can't fault anything about them, right down to the magnetic closing battery cover. Very premium. They completely transform the experience and are perfect to use.Using two sensors I was perfectly fine playing the bundled roborecall game (awesome by the way) and was soon flailing around like no ones business.Games aside they are great for being creative and even when watching a vr movie they work great and their implementation is spot on.What truly surprised me was the accuracy in their tracking. Fast and responsive I could 'see' where they were on the desk in front of me with the headset on.If you have a rift but dont have these buy them. If you are buying a rift, get these with it!

Very nice design and fit well in the hand with a button layout perfectly placed and just feels right. The trigger buttons for the index finger and other fingers are analog so allow gradual movement of the fingers although not all fingers can move individually (so you cant flip the bird!). Index finger is controlled by the the front trigger which is placed nicely to allow you to point, a ok or grip while the remaining 3 fingers are controlled by another side trigger and can form a fist or any range of movement between open hand or fist. Some people may be put off by the buttons placed on the thumb section on top of the controllers but like using a keyboard and touch typing the use of these will most likely become second nature. There are thumb sticks aswell to allow you to use this just like an xbox controller except they are better imo.Overall an amazing controller setup which seems to work seamlessly with your hand movement in the virtual world and if you have already invested in the rift HMD you really NEED to get a set of this.PS. I was a seated rift user only and sceptical at first about these touch controllers but they have exceeded my expectations and now I cant wait to see how they implement them with more games in VR... 5/5!!!

These controller's take the occulus VR experience to the next level of interaction and immersion. Holding them feels so natural resulting in use of them being as natural as everyday use of your hands. All buttons and the sticks sense your fingers and thumbs being on them without being pressed, this allows in game hand features to be made without needing to actually press anything. The extra sensor included is a must to allow much more accurate tracking in 3d space and it does it very well. Turning away from the sensors and obstructing the view with your body can hamper tracking, although I have read that you can now get a 3rd sensor and have full 360 degree tracking which I plan on doing. After registering your controllers you get two games and two painting /modeling programs free, they ate excellent and not tacky demos, they ate full premium titles which really sweetens the deal.Use your occulus and controllers within steam for and even bigger library of games, they work great.Overall I love these controllers and feel they are absolutely money well spent. Now if only Amazon sold the individual sensors to......

The touch controllers take the Oculus Rift to a completely new level. So immersive to see your hands in the actual games.I have quite a small play area and have no problem with 360 room scale with two sensors in opposite corners of the room, but I would imagine that for a bigger play area a 3rd sensor would guarantee 100% coverage. All the free titles that Oculus gave away during the pre-order more than makes up for the high price of the controllers, but then, once you hold them in your hands and see how sturdy the build quality is, you realise that this a high quality product and well worth the money even without all the free games. Will never forget my first time in "First Contact",like I will never forget the first time that the dinosaur roared in my face when I first got the rift, or even the first time I ever played a video game. These experiences are creating happy memories, having so much fun.

If you want the "complete" Oculus experience, it cannot be without the Touch controllers. My rift was basically gathering dust without these, now I am using it almost daily. The controllers themselves are ergonomic and just feel natural in the hand. They are not without fault though, as I sometimes experience the "right-hand drift" bug where the right-hand controller starts floating away before returning to normal after a few seconds, which could be down to the software or occlusion, however, this happens even with three sensors.Fixing this issue would certainly result in a 5 star rating. Oculus say that there is an update on the way, so fingers crossed.Games I recommend for the Touch:- Eleven: Table Tennis VR.This game is one of the most fun games currently for the Touch.- SUPERHOT VR. While the "demo" is only 2 hours long, it is one of the most fun experiences I have played in the Rift.

Ok so I decided to get the Touch controllers now that XPlane 11 Beta natively supports VR, and the reviews on the touch have been very good, I have had the CV1 headset for a while and thought I could do without touch. I was wrong.Hardware: Great packaging and the build quality on these are outstanding.Setup: The setup is very easy, and the oculus setup is very intuitive to use, however if you skip the part where you define the play area you can get some odd experience where you are placed in the air, but if you follow the instructions and setup correctly you wont have any issues.Experience: WOW the immersion goes through the roof, with Flight sims that support it like XPlane its transformative, flick switches, interact with controls and systems with ease.Other games that are designed for touch are a revelation for example search youtube for Oculus First Contact for a great demo

If you have a rift you have to get this!I was a little sceptical as I have been using the leap motion add on and while that's great it's a little limited but improves the immersion. This thing..... WOW! The way they have executed on it is fantastic, the render of the hands in space and the way it detects the movement of your hands even before you hit the buttons is really realistic (you have to try it to really appreciate it).You get Robo Recall for free on the oculus when you buy this and it's a proper high quality amazing graphics game that shows off the capability of the touch controllers.I was impressed with the rift when I got it but got a bit bored with it after a while. The touch controllers have taken it from a novelty to show off to friends with into something that I can't wait to go back on and use myself!

The touch controllers are a must-have if you've already got your Rift CV1! They work so well that they just become a natural extension of your hands and you quickly forget you're using them. Very intuitive button placement for grabbing objects and firing weapons. Premium peripheral that any VR enthusiast needs to own. If you've played VR with a controller and were impressed, you've not experienced anything yet!Worth noting: You get free games when you register your touch on to your PC client. Robo Recall, Lucky’s Tale, Quill, Medium, Dead & Buried, and Toybox. Robo Recall is a AAA title from Epic Games and is the best VR experience i've had to date. Jump into VR and start having fun!

I can't quite put them into words, other than "life changing" and "Insane." You'll never understand how utterly amazing these controllers are, until you try them. You can obviously do so much more than with a 360 controller, but i mean SO MUCH MORE!Play Robo Recall for more than 5 minutes and you'll be gun slinging, dual wielding pistols, catching and throwing back bullets from mid-air, rippling limbs off robots ... omg its insane!Beat saber has won my heart. Think Guitar Hero but in VR ... but with light sabers!!11/10 - absolutely needed beyond words! They change VR like nothing you'll ever buy!

Really help the experience on Oculus. Loads of games to play in the Oculus store most of them not too expensive. Can play Vive games using these and even though I'll probably get another two cameras you can do room scale with two cameras! These feel so much better than the Vive Controllers, the Vive ones feel like you're holding a WiiMote or remote control, however, the Touch sort of sit on top of your hands and because the soft grip you can move your fingers without realising there's a controller in your hand.Only changed the batteries once after 50 hours of play. Great addon for the Oculus

When you first try these out you wil never go back to the Xbox crontroller. You got to set up the controller which can be a pain because you need at least 3 feet apart from each sensor. When you set up it jumps strait in to a demo and shows you what you can do. When you start using the controller it's so quick and easy to learn also easy to get use to. The controls in the game is more enjoyable with a difference experience control to the Xbox controller. The only thing that disappoints me where are my free games with my Pre - Order? Also plenty of games now in the Oculus Store!

28.12.2016

Amazing piece of kit. Very easy to set up and it really feels like your hands on part of the VR world.Just make sure you remove any lights above you or you will keep smashing them! The room mapping is spot on and it really helps avoiding bashing into walls and furniture. This really changes the oculus rift experience, even the motion sickness problems seem to have completely gone. How can this be so cheap and so good! This with the rift is easily the best piece of technology/gadget available, no question. If you love gadgets and technology just get this.
