I wanted a phone that was a communications device, not a media centre or a PDA. This fits that bill - you can call, text and email but not much else. All of these function very well, as the 3109 uses Nokia's standard 'Series 40' operating system that should be familiar to anyone who has used a Nokia phone in the last few years. This stripped-back set of functions does mean excellent battery life - I managed just over a week on one charge in light use (perhaps averaging 5 texts and 1 minute of calls per day, plus the usual menu navigation etc.).In terms of appearance, another attraction of this phone is the simple, no-nonsense styling that makes it look professional and not like a child's toy.It is by no means a thin phone, but well proportioned and comfortable in the hand or in the pocket. The keypad deserves special mention as it features the largest, most comfortable keys I have ever experienced, making operating this phone a real pleasure, particularly for messaging (for me, the T9 predictive text system is faster than a full QWERTY keypad anyway, but naturally this is a personal preference). The only real negative point is when this phone goes outside of its comfort zone with the media / mp3 player. This delivers poor quality audio even through a decent set of earphones. In summary, I believe this a quality phone with well-focused core features. I could recommend it to anyone who values functionality over making a fashion statement.Read full review...

This is the new classic business phone. No camara as most companies do not allow personal photographic equipment on site. Phone cameras are rubbish anyway compared to the real thing with a decent size lens for low light conditions and optical zoom facility. It has big keys for ease of use in poor light and older users and a bright display that can be set for bigger font size to match the big keys. The best feature is a battery that seems to last for ever on a single charge, particularly on standby when no calls are made/received.Handy MP3 player built in but it needs an XD micro card which are dirt cheap to make use of this + stereo earphones or headphone adaptor and a USB cable that are notgenerally supplied with the kit.Love the programmable goto and navigation keys that you can set up for your own preferences and to remove things you never need to access. The only dislike is that it scratches easily so it really needs a protective cover when its in your pocket. Either that or put up with a screen that degrades every week of use. I can't understand why Nokia could not fit a scratch resist LCD screen like they fit on watches.John - Abergavenny UKRead full review...

There aren't many phones around these days that don't have a built-in camera, but for those whose job prevents them from having a camera, the Nokia 3109 Classic is probably the best option available. It's almost exactly the same as the 3110 Classic, except that the camera and FM radio have been removed. The 3109 Classic has all the essential phone functions, and is a tough no-nonsense phone with a good battery and smart looks. The keypad and 5-way navigation key are very tactile, and this is a phone that you can just get on and use without having to worry.Although it has no camera, it has easily the best LCD display in its class, and benefits from an MP3 player and a memory card slot that can take microSD cards up to 2 Gbytes. It also has excellent connectivity: Bluetooth, USB and Infrared. The only thing it's missing (apart from the camera) is an FM radio - if that's important to you then choose the Nokia 2310 instead, although the 2310 doesn't have an MP3 player.Read full review...

I wanted a mobile with Bluetooth and normal txt capability WITHOUT a camera - security issue at office. Do you know what a tough call that is??! Luckily I found this nokia which is great, I can still view pictures on the large colour screen, menus are very good, and buttons easy to use. Very pleased. I bought 2, one for me and the other half! Would recommend to anyone who needs a good all round mobile, but needs to avoid a camera, and to be honest, how often do you use the camera on your phone??? Not including embarrassing drunken moments, of course! Oh and the charger is the new small nokis one.

I think that it is a lovely little phone. quite compact. I have found though, that it is not on many of the website lists of phones that can be unlocked with a code sent over the phone or the internet. To change it to another network, it seems that you have to take it to a phone dealer's shop and they unlock it with a kind of machine. I tried an internet unlocking site - but they sent me an email saying why that phone isnt one that can be unlocked without a machine. I havent tried the dealer yet - so i still dont know if it can actually be unlocked this way either.

If you are looking for a classic mobile or you like simple phone call and text only mobile set, then Nokia 3109 is for you. With only 89 gram, small compact size, 1.8 Inch colour screen, wall paper, screen saver, Vibration, Ringtone, Bluetooth, Address Book, Micro SD Card, USB Connectivity, EDGE, GPRS, SMS, MMS, E-Mail, WAP, Java Enabled, T9 Dictionary, and MP3 player, it is one of the best classic, simple phone. But it has no Camera, not a 3G, and no WIfi. Obviously it is a Classic Mobile phone not a computer.

The phone is easy to use classic shape and fits snuggly into your hand, in a matter of minutes it feels like you've been using it forever, its a gr8 phone for some who just needs to ring out or text as there is no camera, its almost like turning the clock back to before the camera and quite frankly it nice to have a phone just for texting and ringing, and we all have parents who are just not as "up to date" as we would like them to be well this is an ideal phone for them to get to grips with modern technology

The Nokia 3109 is not a small phone, but that's what is great about it. It has a good sized screen and I can see all the buttons without my glasses!! It starts quickly and feels good to handle. The settings are easy to navigate. It doesn't do anything fancy but all I want to do is phone people and send texts. One point to watch out for - when I send a message is says 'Saved in Memory' rather than 'Sent', although it has sent the message. Not sure why this is but I expect I will figure it out.

Really like the size of the keys, mush better for texting than the really annoyingly small keys on my newer work-provided Nokia. Also, the message-storing facility is better, as you can create multiple Draft messages and store them to send later.Pretty resilient, I dropped my old one several times on concrete and gravel and it kept on working. No camera, but who cares.Have to watch the on/off button - don't use it too much or it will break and this is not covered by warranty!

I've used this model of Nokia for 11 years. It lives in my trouser pocket. It's been utterly reliable, survived being dropped numerous times and does all the basic phone functions that I need. I use the alarm clock daily. The on/off switch on my old one broke after 11 years of use so I've replaced the phone with a second-hand one off Ebay. It's taken me a few days to get it set up as I want it and now I'm hoping for a good many more years of trouble free service.

I wanted a phone I could use to call people and to send text. If I'd have wanted a camera, radio, GPS or computer, I'd have bought one. I wanted a solid, reliable phone with a useable keyboard, a simple, straightforward operating system, and an easy-to-use phone-book. On top of this the battery life is great and the screen is one of the best I've seen. I got exactly what I wanted, and it still has all the necessary options - tri-band, bluetooth, mp3 player.

18.9.2008

I bought this 'phone for a friend who wanted an easy-to-use handset with large buttons and fonts so he doesn't need his glasses when he's out shooting (!). It is designed very much in the tradition of the 3330 and the 6230-it does exactly what it says on the tin, and does it very well. If you're after a reliable and uncomplicated mobile phone in a classic design that is well made and may last forever, then the 3109 is one of the very best.

13.4.2008

Have this phone in work and liked the way it performed.Battery life is good and if you dont want the 'go faster' extras like a camera that you will never use, then it's a great tool to have for talkability's sake!MP3 player can be a bonus if travelling away from home and the storage on the phone itself is ample.Would consider it as a good second phone to have as a spare.Well priced second hand.Hope this helps.

This a no-nonsense phone with excellent features for those of us that do not want camera, radio, mp3, etc... Actually it might do mp3 but I have no interest in that. Compared to my old phone, a Nokia 3120, it has bigger keys, a bigger display, but is only very slightly bigger in height and width, and slimmer in thickness. I am very pleased with my purchase.

This phone is just what I needed to replace my one I pulled out of the washing machine the other week. It's more sophisticated yet has the reliability and functionality of a Nokia. I will use it as a backup phone and for when I travel overseas and need to use other sims. The only down side is that it is locked but that's easily rectified. A great phone!
