Bought this to replace a Cree torch which broke after dropping it (A cheaper Chinese version)....It did not disappoint.I already had the batteries to fit so I was able to test this right away...I would recomend the 18650 protected series as they are slightly longer so they will easily connect to the terminals...but if you have the cheaper ones,just fold a piece of tin foil several times to make up the thickness (it won't do any damage and works very well).The torch itself is very well made and is easy to set up...You can activate the torch in turbo mode by just a half press of the button on the rear of the torch...a full press/click will actvate it fully and from here you can make adjustments

The Nitecore MT40 is a great product -- once you get it to work. The four CR123 batteries are encased in a nearly invisible clear plastic film. This plastic film must be removed in order for the batteries to make electrical contact. The Instructions make no mention of having to remove this plastic coating. There is a very small silica gel packet (desiccant) jammed into the tail piece of the Nitecore MT40. This, too, must be removed before the MT40 can be operated. The Instructions make no mention of removing this small gel packet. Once you remove the plastic film from the batteries and remove the small silica gel packet from the tailpiece, the Nitecore MT40 works as advertised. In short,

I own a Fenix TK35 with 820 lumens. Debated buying a new Fenix TK35 2012 version with 860 lumens but for a change went with the Nitecore MT40 860 lumen instead. The Nitecore is now my #1 light. It is brighter, and for me easier to handle than the Fenix (due to the Fenix's unusual shape). Also, almost $40 cheaper than the Fenix. The Fenix TK35 is still a great light, but would highly recommend this Nitecore. UPDATE FEB. 4, 2013: Use this flashlight every night!

There are many high lumen lights out there that have somewhat diffuse beams giving them a flood effect. This one has a more focused hot spot. I use it to check outside for coyotes before letting the dogs out into the yard to take care of their business. It's a basic light that's easy to use and very effective.

Super bright. Good value. I like the lanyard because I can wrap it around my wrist when walking the dog and not have to worry about dropping the light. It's so bright that I set it on the dimmest mode for general dog walking. A quick twist of the front puts it on max bright immediately.

Bright as they say. Blinding in fact. The programs are much easier to access by merely twisting a ring. Dimmer feature is impressive. I have a 10 acre farm and the light shines from fence to fence.

Great product for the price! If you wonder if it is worth the money......absolutely! Solid flashlight with very bright output.

Very bright and easy to hold. Compact enough to leave next to the bed or on the kitchen counter.

This is my choice of the cree light . to 860 lumen is a plus and will brighten up the darkness
