Super for those dark mornings and nights, these are a lot more eye catching than other spoke lights that I've used in the past.Very sturdy, easy to attach to my wheels, and haven't fallen off or moved position since they went on 6 weeks ago, despite regular commutes on the atrocious, pot-holed streets of Edinburgh. Some have complained that they are difficult to switch on and off. I don't have any difficulty in doing this at all. I put my first two fingers on the back of the light and use my thumb to press on the middle of light. Yes, I think it could be difficult if you don't do this, or try to use the tip of your thumb rather than further down, near the back of the first knuckle of your thumb.I'm sure everyone could manage this with a bit of thought and effort. Personally I'd rather it needed a firm press to activate the light than have them switch on accidentally from going over bumps in the road. There are two options with these lights once they are switched on; flashing, or just 'on'. Flashing is equally eye-catching in my opinion and will have the advantage of extending the battery life. Talking of batteries, I also purchased 12 batteries that fit these, from a different seller for under £3, although I haven't needed to replace any thus far (1/2 hour morning and night, full 'on' mode, 5 days a week, 6 weeks and still going strong).I have 2 red lights on my back wheel and a green one on the front. I don't have the energy or inclination to go at the type of speeds I imagine you would need to go at to achieve the "solid blur of light" effect as shown on the packet and website, but they are nevertheless very good at getting you noticed on the road. The clever construction of the lights mean that they are equally visible on either side of your wheel.I don't know if it's because they are bright or unusual, but they do have the effect of getting you noticed by both pedestrians and car drivers. Drivers seem to allow a bit more space as they overtake, which is always nice as you know. Of course, they might be saying to themselves "Hmmm, if he's mad enough to buy and stick those things all over his bike, Christ knows what he might do as I pass by, I'm giving him a wide berth just in case". Either way it's all good for me.As it's now getting a bit lighter at the times I commute, these will soon by coming off until next year. That won't be a problem as there is no mechanics and tools involved in doing this. They fit to the spokes by means of a deep slot in the centre part, and the two arms that extend out from the centre just wedge on the adjoining spokes. Simple but effective. Solid, sturdy, slightly rubbery feel to them, they do feel like a decent quality item which I have no hesitation in recommending to other fellow cyclists. Thank you.

I am riding my bicycle to school to save money, and often ride home at night in the dark. Now that we are in fall and the amount of daylight has excessively dwindled, I will soon be riding in the dark both in the morning and at night.I have had a few close calls, the last time I was crossing a side road and a lady pulled out right in front of me. I decided the problem must be with my technique, or my bike. When I investigated, and went in front of my bike, all I could see was a tiny spot of light from my mini-maglight. Nothing else was lit. I could see fine, but the drivers couldn't see me. I do wear a high visibility jacket made for cycling, so that's covered, but this weekend I added a few more dazzlers (which just about exhausted my food budget; I must now be resigned to eggs and water and what's left in the cupboards until February):1. Cheap-o LED closet buttons to the underside of my bike basket to light up the road under my bike and it lights up my wheels very well2. A red flasher light to the back of the fender basket3. A giant camping lantern with a 4" reflector to the front fender4. A reflective high visibility yellow sash/belt is on order5. A 1000lumen light is on order6. Finally: I bought locally one rainbow color changing Nite Ize spokelit for my bike, and love it so much that I ordered several more from this page (cost was comperable). The Disc-o is not a rainbow, it changes color from red to purple to blue to green to yellow to white or some such sequence of those colors. It's gorgeous, it's bright, and I can pull them off the spokes easily to make sure they aren't stolen while I am in class. After all this light treatment and my new placement in the road instead of hugging the curb, if a driver can't see my psychadelic self coming down the street then that person deserves a distracted driving citation.Nevertheless, I will keep my hand ready at the brake, because the people of Stevens Point, WI, despite the city being 'green,' really aren't ready for nor seem to be interested in having bicycle commuters sharing the roadways.Be bright, be seen, be happy biking through snow drifts in the bitter cold: buy the SpokeLit.

>>>> Here is my initial negative review...(***BUT MAKE SURE sure you read my POSITIVE update!***)**** INITIAL NEGATIVE REVIEW ****Useless piece of junk. It doesn't work. Now I must go through the hassle of getting a refund. Don't waste your time. If it worked it could perhaps be very good; it is neat and compact, smaller than the pictures seem to imply, and it fits on the spokes great, but it is as DEAD AS A DODO.Before I send it back I am going to try some replacement batteries. Fingers crossed!**** POSITIVE UPDATE ****Yippee the new batteries work great! Furthermore Amazon has agreed to refund the cost of replacement batteries! So despite my initial worries everything worked out great with minimum hassle.I wasn't looking forward to the hassle of going to post office and sending the product back merely because the batteries might be dud.I have asked Amazon to check the other lights in stock to see if the batteries are dead, so future buyers should not have the problem I did. When batteries usually come installed in a device there is usually a slip of paper or plastic between the batteries preventing connection, thus preventing the batteries running down while they are sitting in the stockroom, but this slip of paper or plastic was NOT the inserted into this product therefore the batteries had become dead. Anyway, the bike light is lovely and bright. I can't wait to try it out. The plastic is made out of a nice hard tough rubber substance (nice and durable which will easily survive any knocks) and it lights up well on both sides. The resolution by Amazon was a brilliant piece of customer service! Thanks Amazon. Thanks for refunding the cost of replacement batteries. If only all companies could make the shopping experience this pleasurable then when things occasionally go wrong the world would be a better place.Batteries were worn out, the conclusion was a success! Here are the replaced batteries Amazon refunded:

Super bright!! Be seen by everyone and everything!I have had a front and rear light for years - nothing special. The main purposes for these lights was to be seen. A couple of months ago I got hit in the early morning by a car coming off a side road and didn't stop at their stop sign. I must not be 'being seen' as much as I thought I was. My search for an additional light source landed me on these inexpensive items. What the heck, right? The day after I ordered them (they haven't arrived yet) a friend of mine saw me riding through the neighborhood in the early morning. She commented to me later that she couldn't see me and had to squint to make me out. I thought I was more visible than that. The day after these bad boys were installed I passed her again out on the road (she's a jogger). I saw her later that night and asked if she saw me that morning. She claimed she did not. I told her I was the one with the bright green and red lights in my spokes. Her response was all I needed to know. "THAT WAS YOU??" When she saw me she thought to herself that that was how a cyclist should look to be noticed. She was pleased to know that it was me. I was all lit up.I've noticed cars coming off of side roads stop well before the intersection as I'm approaching because they see me better and earlier than previously. It is very noticeable.I got a green one for the front tire and a red one for the back tire. I think if I were to do it again, I would buy green for both. It is brighter than the red. I don't think more than one is needed. I don't ride very fast, but I do go down one hill and I haven't noticed any ill effects of the wheel being out of balance.I ride in the wet, Pacific Northwest. I've ridden in the rain a couple of times - still going strong. I've put a reminder on my calendar to update this review in 30 days (1/23/15). We'll see how they've held up that long.

These little lights are a wonderful safety addition. I put two red ones on the front wheel, and two green ones on the rear, opposite each other to act as counterweights. They turn my wheels into glowing circles at night--a real attention-getter. Kids give me cheers. Cars have stopped at cross streets to watch me go by, even if they turning a different direction. Getting attention is what it's all about, right? They are a little bit difficult to mount on the spokes, as you have to push pretty firm to get the spokes to pop into the slots. I haven't had any trouble with a light coming loose. I haven't ridden in wet conditions, so I can't vouch for the waterproof factor, but they appear extremely watertight.I just replaced the batteries after 35 night commutes (20 minutes each ride = 700 minutes = 12 hours, roughly). They were getting noticeably dim. (I use them turned on, not blinking.) When I tested the old batteries, they had indeed lost 75% of their juice.I ordered a set of 25 of the CR2016 dime-size batteries from Powertron on Amazon for $7.49. That means it costs me $2.40 every 35 trips--pretty cheap safety. One note: if you use an odometer with a magnet that attaches to your spoke and passes a sensor, make sure the NiteIze don't whack your sensor each time they go past! Luckily, it has not been a problem for me--the NiteIze sit closer to the axle, away from the sensor.I commute home from work in the dark every night. So along with the Nite Ize spoke lights, I use a Planet Bike Blinky on my helmet, a Planet Bike BRT LED strap on my leg, a blinking tail light under my seat, and a 1000-lumen Magic Shine bike light for maximum visibility. You can't be "too visible" at night!

These are great? they require no skill whatsoever to stick on to the spokes. Just press the light's groove into the spoke and tuck both ends in behind two neighbouring spokes and that's it! Then to turn it on, all you do is squeeze the middle. I was impressed with quite how bright the light is. Obviously you need a white light at the front and a red light at the back of your bike still because that is the law and because you need a light to see where you are going, but these lights seem to be just as bright and it's far more unusual for there to be light on the wheel so you are much more likely to be noticed. To get to the effect of a solid circle of light as you cycle, you either have to be cycling like a crazy lunatic or get more than one light. Even when I was whizzing down hill it wasn't fast enough to create a solid circle with just one light, so I would recommend getting three for the full effect. But one light on it not whizzing round will also be effective, just not a solid circle of light. It depends what look you want. As for the question about whether they are dangerous to the rider because they are distracting, clearly the person who asked that question didn't understand the sense of humour of the reviewer who was merely saying that they are really effective and cool and he was enjoying admiring them not that they are dangerous at all. They don't do anything to affect your ability to ride normally, they just make sure that everyone else sees you in the dark. I think they are wonderful and will be buying a third one to get the full circle effect! There are other versions of this sort of light available for cheaper, but I suspect they may not be quite as bright as these

Good Stuff: These fit fairly well on traditional spokes, and actually work on my flat/bladed spokes as well (Aksium road wheels). They produce a decent amount of light (I'm using 1 per wheel), and apparently get attention, and I've had the occasional stare or hoot from passing motorists, etc. These increased my side visibility a lot, and I use them on early-morning and night rides. I get a good amount of light from the blinking mode, so I suggest using that to conserve battery unless you're looking for a specific lighting effect, etc.Bad stuff: The rubber/plastic body is kind of a press-fit on the spoke, so they'll wear down if you're moving them from wheel to wheel a lot--may not stay on the spokes quite as well after a few changes.Putting the light on the spoke also involves kind of a twist-and-slide motion, so you'll want to be kind of light-handed to avoid affecting the wheel's alignment/truing. As other reviewers noted, I got mine in with nearly-spent batteries (one had been on in transit, in the solid-on mode), though I bought the 25-pack-of-2016's, and it's been working OK so far. Also note: if you're riding a bike with narrow chainstays or a narrow front fork, you may want to check the positioning before riding with these--may not have a lot of room between light and frame because of the dome-shaped power button. I was able to make mine fit on a road frame (Orbea Onix), though I have be pretty scientific about where I position the light on the rear wheel.Overall: for the price, I'd say these are a decent buy, and a relatively low-cost way to get some side visibility.

I have two issues with this item:1) The packaging included NO instructions on how to turn off demo mode. I had to go to the NiteIze website [...]) to find them - you apparently have to hold down the button until it first just glows, then blinks then goes out (stops blinking). THEN it will apparently go out of demo mode. Reason I say apparently is because I was not able to get mine out of demo mode this way - it would just continue to blink and blink and blink.... See #22) The included batteries were about 1/2 used up. After trying to get it out of demo mode unsuccessfully, I opened it up, removed the batteries and tested them. Supposed to be 3v, only measured about 1.6v.Replaced them with a single CR2032 and now the light works as it should - it's no longer in demo mode.I should probably return it but since I've "fixed" it by changing the battery, I'm not going to bother - too much trouble. For once, I wish this was being sold by a 3rd party seller then I could leave feedback requesting they send me replacement batteries. Seems there's no way to make that sort of request when it's sold directly by Amazon...update 12/18/2010 - I e-mailed back and forth with customer support at NiteIze and they're sending me a new set of batteries. And the packaging should have had instructions for getting the light out of demo mode. Likely I just got some old stock. Also she said that the CR2032s would work (which I knew) but the light wouldn't be as bright which makes sense - 3v vs 6v. Changing my rating to 4 stars...

Unlike the other reviews, I never had to "activate" my Spokelit lights. I did remove the stickers from the back of each battery, though. They were a bit confusing and hard to put on at first, but eventually I got them on. I got blue and green and they are both of equivalent brightness. Each Spokelit light requires TWO watch batteries. Can get a bit expensive during replacement. This is a minor point, but they were hard to "slip" onto the wheel. You had to somewhat bend the hard plastic back, push your spoke against the small slits on the Spokelit, and then "slide" it up the spoke, towards the edge of the wheel. Except they didn't slide well. They are made of a hard silicone, non-slip plastic. But on the other hand, the grippy plastic does make the thing robust, hard to crack, and difficult to fall off in the middle of riding. They are snapped in place by your spokes such that falling out in-ride becomes near impossible.Push it once, it turns on a constant color. Push and hold it again, it blinks at a constant rate. Push it thrice, it turns off. They look like a circling dot when you ride. It's only if you REALLY go VERY fast that they look like a circle. For optimal brightness, I suggest buying two Spokelit lights for each wheel. I have one for each wheel right now, and they're fine. They give great side visibility, but they are no means replacements for your head or tail light. In a pitch black alley, these won't do much for you.

After using this product for the past month, I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews, because I have had no trouble with my lights.I think they provide very good visibility from the front and from behind (although the non-blue colors might be brighter). I notice that when I'm riding in downtown Chicago that the lights turn heads in all directions, even though the street lights are very bright downtown (and the pedestrians walk like total zombies to the train). On the dark side streets I have no doubt that these lights really increase my visibility.I have had not had the batteries wear out, and I use them almost daily (albeit for a short ride). Maybe there was a bad batch? It's easy to have a little bit of a connection that will sap the current on the batteries in devices like this. This product would be quite easy to steal, but guess what? Theives don't generally steal safety equipment! Plus, when they're turned off they look quite unimpressive; which is fine with me because that means that nobody wants them! If you're still worried about theft, then you can easily take them on and off when you go places. When they're turned on, they look cool, and I get compliments on them almost every time I ride somewhere. I think it's a really smart product, and I love it's simplicity and low price.

For months I've been thinking about the fact that I have a super bright (almost blinding) headlamp, a tail light that can be seen up to a mile away, and literally nothing that allows me to be seen from the sides at night. I did some research and found a lot of expensive, unreviewed wheel light systems. I didn't want to spend a lot on an unproven product. I was a little skeptical of the Nite Ize Spokelits...I mean, really $5-7? So I ordered one, why not. It showed up with mostly dead batteries, but it appears that Amazon shipped it in a too tight container that turned it off of "try me" mode, so who knows how long it had been activated. I replaced the two CR 2016 batteries and it lit right up.Installation took, literally, seconds and I was very impressed with the added visibility. It can be a little distracting at first on your front wheel, but you get used to it and I think it's really cool! I'm not sure on battery life, but for $5 and free shipping, I got a pack of 10 Sony CR2016's on Ebay.Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. They may be a little tacky, but I think it's a small price to pay for the added safety and I'm proud of my bike bling. They've performed exactly as expected and I ordered two more to share with a friend :)Get them, have fun, and be safe!

These are great. I have six, one on each wheel of three bikes, and they vastly improve visibility from the side. Headlights and taillights are great, but I work downtown and often am not seen by drivers who are doing quick turning and merging necessitated by the many one-way streets. They are cheap, and these offer a great bang-for-your-buck for being seen on your bike at night. They're pretty flashy too! (no pun intended)Very easy to install, just put on a spoke and slide towards the outside of the wheel so it's wedged between three spokes. I used a clear zip-tie around the light & spoke so it can't just be pulled off by a envious passer-by.They have two modes, solid and flashing (blinking)operation. I find the solid operation better; since they're on your wheel, they're moving enough to be very eye-catching, which would be the benefit of the flashing mode. They aren't the easiest things to turn on and off; it takes a very firm push, so much so that you need to reinforce the light with your other hand to avoid too much stress to your spokes. However, that's better than it accidentally being turned on and running out the button battery. The batteries are replaceable, but they last so long that I haven't needed to yet.Highly recommended!

Love them, I bought a pair each or my son, daughter and my wife! I ride alone at nights and use excellent high powered lighting systems, but the same applies to non riders, so on my family's bikes they all have a front light, rear light and these. My kids even have the valve lights. You either use lights to see, and they need to be strong or to be seen, such as the case with my family. I WANT THEM SEEN AT ALL TIMES! My Kids love them!, Then I surprised my wife with hers, and even though me and the kids have to turn them on for her, we do. Hers are blue to match her bike, but the kids chose different colors, even on different wheels. It looks like a light show when they ride,BUT THEY ARE AS SAFE AS THEY CAN BE! It makes me feel better and I love to see them ride down the streets all lit up! Helpful trick for all of these, it is hard to get the spokes in to the inserts on all different bikes and my son has mag rims, so fortunately there are two small holes, where I attached them with clear zip ties and they stay just fine, it was easier this way for me and maybe for you! I did get one with dead batteries, but it wasn't worth the return.

I purchased 2 of these lights (1 for each tire) to add to the safety gear I use while riding in the wee hours of the morning and late at night before and after work. This is a great product that allows you to be more visible to others from the side.Pros:- Added Safety Visibility- Easy to use, fairly easy to install- Cost effective- Durable- Great for low light times- Cheap battery replacement, (mine haven't run out yet - but my commute is short)Cons:- To activate them can be a little tough with winter gloves, I find.- Hypothetically these could be easily stolen, but they're cheap - and a little bit of glue could dissuade someone.Notes:- At the speed I'm going on my mountain bike,it doesn't give a solid circle of light. It all depends on the effect you're looking for. Can't go wrong with 4 (2 per wheel) if you're looking for a more solid line.- With 4 lights they'd probably put off a pretty good glow to see your immeadiate surroundings when dark.I'd recommend them to anyone looking to spiff up their bike, or looking for additional safety when riding.

Bought four of these to use, two per wheel. They add outstanding visibility from the side, and area that was unprotected before. I can tell they make my bike way more visible, and before adding these, I would have people pull out from driveways at me. Even though my headlights are very bright, motorists seem to see these better. I usually use them in the flashing mode, red, to conserve batteries. I just bought two more to make it three per wheel, and will get a better circle of light at lower speeds, and will start using them in the steady on position. I purchased the 25 battery packs of 2016 batteries from Amazon, and go through a set of batteries (2) about every month, riding four to five times a week at usually an hour, but sometimes two. The batteries are easily replaceable, just pry off the cap that you push on to turn them off and take the whole control unit out of the otherside and replace the batteries, making sure is cap is on all the way when you are finished. Had not had any trouble with the lights coming off my wheel, even to speeds above 30 mph
