I like many others was incredibly excited when I heard certain copies of Smash Bros 4 would come packaged with an adapter to use Gamecube controllers, so there was only one option; buy a Gamecube controller to go with it. Nintendo thankfully has cashed in on this idea by releasing a new controller for a new generation of gamers, but to appeal to the Smasher of old as well.In terms of design it is a perfect copy of the original GC controller released over a decade ago with a few differences, some more noticeable than others. Aesthetically the most obvious is the new Smash logo on the front, a simple but nice touch. Another more purposeful touch is a longer cable, far longer than the original controller. This is fantastic for many of us who have bigger televisions or just want to sit further from the screen, it gives the player a choice on how far they want to game from. The final change is a little bit more sinister and it's all to do with the triggers (L- R buttons). I have two of these controllers and both have had the right trigger suffer from click stiffness after about a month's playtime and this is quite a large detriment to high level players as it sometimes effects the response time of the click input. I've heard this has something to do with a lack of a "metal bar" in the new controllers internal components, probably to save on production costs. This is a shame because otherwise this is a fantastic controller.Overall the controller is a nice edition to a Smash player's library, but those who demand more from their game level should be wary of the shoulder buttons. It will effect everything from your shield responses to teching, air dodging and spot dodging. If you can find a cheap gamecube original controller and are looking to be a competitve Smasher I'd choose that first.

So, I bought this controller, as it was selling at a very reasonable price for a new controller. It's also the first time in YEARS that you can buy a new gamecube controller without having it imported from Japan (which increases the price considerably). The controller itself is structurally identical to the white controller as far as I've been able to tell. The cable is as long as the white controller, aka longer than the ones back in the gamecube days. However the shell is matte black and has that texture, unlike the glossy textures previous gamecube controllers have. This doesn't bother me at all and I like matte>glossy personally. The L/R Triggers on the controller are also structurally identical to the white gamecube controller, and lack the metal bar that guides the trigger, leaving only the spring (there used to be a bar way back in the day, before the white controllers came out in 2008.) This shouldn't bother most people and it's not noticeable unless you take it apart, but it's something to note.If you're buying this for Smash for Wii U, you will need a gamecube adapter. These were in much higher demand than Nintendo expected and have been out of stock since the games release almost two weeks ago. This is bad planning on the part of the supplier, but shouldn't effect the review of this product. I managed to get one and it works fine with it.I bought this for £22.85, and I would buy it again. However right now it's listed at £33.98, which is way too big of a price change in under two weeks for me to justify buying it. I've knocked off a star for this but if the price ever goes down I would buy another :)

I bought this because I wanted to play Smash 4 with a GCN controller, but the chord is too short on my original GCN controllers for this to be workable, and I'd read that the new edition has a longer chord, so it was no brainer. The chord is indeed a good metre longer, so in that respect it's perfect, and it's nice to have a shiny new GCN controller. The L & R buttons immediately felt slightly off though - the 'click' was a little softer than I was expecting - and so I opened it up to take a look, and - as noted in other reviews - in line with 2008 Japanese edition, this new edition is missing the stabilising bars from the L & R mechanisms. But otherwise the mechanisms are identical to the originals, with the inserts for the stabilising bars still present, and so it's no trouble to transplant them from an older controller into this one; I've done this, and now it's perfect.I should note that the controller still functions perfectly well without the bars - the difference is only noticeable if you've played a lot with the original - so this needn't discourage you from buying the new edition. But if you're able to transplant the part from a donor controller then I'd recommend doing so.All in all, it's great - I'll probably get a second one for guests. One star deducted for the missing bars.

The Gamecube controller is arguably the most comfortable controller ever made, and to have one that has the Smash Bros. logo plastered on the front is a reason alone to buy it. The buttons look huge, but thats why its great. You wont ever make a mistake pressing a button with this controller. It just feels comfortable to hold while playing. You don't have to use it with just Smash Wii U by the way. It's a Gamecube controller, so it works with Smash Wii U (via the controller adapter, sold seperately) it works with your original Wii, and of course the Gamecube. There are 2 colors of this out. This black one, and a white one (Japan exclusive. All controllers are universal and are not region locked, just a reminder). Personally I like the white one, but the black one is just as good, and functions exactly the same.. After having used 3rd party versions of the GameCube controller, it's nice to see Nintendo bringing back an old classic for the modern age. The controller is well built and has good shape to it, though I do find the Z-Button to be a little too spongy for my liking; the 3rd controllers I have are extremely clicky. It's a minor consideration and the Z-Button is mostly unused in the games I play anyways, including Smash Bros. One minor note was that when it arrived it came in a Japanese box with Japanese instructions. I purchased it from a seller on the marketplace (but it was still fulfilled by Amazon, who were selling it themslves for £1 more), but honestly, the instructions are fairly self explantory and most lay out the Health & Safety compliance and guidelines anyways; plus I'm sure the English version will popup on the Internet somewhere and at some point anyways.

Great. Great. Great. Feels just like the original 2003 platinum which I have for comparison besides the L/R buttons which feel far less harsh which I actually prefer. The cable is significantly longer than the original which may or may not benefit you. I'm personally using this with an emulator on my PC so I sit about a feet away combined with the cable from the USB adapter I barely use even half the length of it.Definitely recommended whether it's for Wii/U, Gamecube or PC.

This Smash Wii U GameCube controller is pretty much like the original NGC released in 2003, but the difference is, the cable for this one's longer and has the Smash logo as well as being BRAND NEW whereas most GameCube controllers are used and their condition tends to be quite average, to say the least about them.Do note that this is compatible with the original GameCube, Wii and Wii U, but for the Wii U you need the

What can I say? This is a gamecube controller. Therefore this is a great controller. It's exactly what you would want for playing smash bros with, much better than the tablet and much cheaper than the pro controllers.Of course you need one of the adapters to use this which are unfortunately scarce but if you have one or still use your gamecube then this is great. It's cheaper in Smyths toy stores though so go there.

Superb- amazing to be buying a brand new Gamecube controller over a decade after the original console was released. I have one of these and it is my pad of choice as the cable is significantly longer than for the original issues. The buttons are all of good quality and I don't believe there is any difference to the originals. Just nice to have a the opportunity for a new pad and a longer wire.

I never thought I'd be buying another Gamecube controller ever, I never thought I'd get the opportunity or reason to. But although I have accumulated 6 gamecube pads somehow, I bought this one for the nostalgia and for the SSB-WiiU logo! The Gamecube pad is slightly more responsive than the WiiU pad, and gives you a tiny edge in Smash Bros, plus the 8 player smash is surprisingly a lot of fun!

Excellent quality controller for a good price. Don't buy the third party replicas - they are lousy, clunky, and very unstable. This official product is a much better option. For those who need the Wii U GC adaptor, many other companies offer their own version, so seek them out.Just remember, don't buy third party GC controllers, for they are rubbish!

Please note, this is a japanese import, BUT DON'T BE SHOCKED OR CONCERNED. I have noticed this is currently under report, but that is not necessary, as this works perfectly fine with my Wii, with Mario Kart. The fact that it is Japanese has no bearing whatsoever. This works perfectly and at a great price. Great item!

A brand new controller for my GameCube, I LOVE it! I actually bought 4 of them to replace my old GameCube controllers and they work even better than the original ones. Also the cable is longer than the original GameCube controllers. Works in the Wii U as well with the compatible adapter.

You can't play SSBB without a gamecube controller, so this is a must-have for the new WiiU edition. We've bought cheap non-Nintendo ones in the past and they have never been able to stand up to the pounding they get, especially during brawl - usually its the joysticks that go first.

Anyone who has used the GC pad knows it is the 2nd best gaming pad ever built (1st is the Nintento 64 pad). The quality of the "Smash" branded controller is just as good as its original counterpart with a longer cable for us hardcore smash fans. Can't beat Nintendo.
