Shortly after getting my Nikon DSLR, a close friend told me one prediction and one bit of advice: you'll end up wanting a better lens pretty soon, and the very first thing you should do is put a neutral filter on to protect it. The prediction turned out to be very accurate (I bought a Nikon prime lens almost right away), so I figured I should follow his advice, and I'm glad I did. This filter's only purpose is to protect your lens. It has no effect on the image. What it does is protect the lens from dust and scratches, and it does this very well. Even in the few hours in which I used my lens without this filter, I managed to accumulate dust on the lens - I have no idea why - and it was a right pain to remove every last speck, since the curvature of the lens meant the very edges were hard to clean. With the perfectly flat filter on, it's much easier to clean, and in the event of damage, it's much easier to replace a cheap filter compared to an expensive lens.Parents of young children might want to get two of these, so the first can be quickly swapped out in the event of a sticky hand venturing towards the lens. I speak from experience here.

I bought this filter to go on my recently purchased Nikon 80-400mm G ED VR Lens. It is fitted purely for lens protection and although more expensive than my usual Hoya filters, I consider that the extra cost is justified since its going on a very expensive lens. The one worry about buying this Nikon filter, was whether it would be the genuine article, as it seems there are many fakes out there. However, this is certainly genuine; there is a website that shows the differences between genuine and fake, and this fits the genuine 100%. I bought my direct from Amazon.co.uk not from the marketplace and not 'fulfilled by'.Very happy with the supplied filter; yes its expensive, but having paid just under £2k on a Nikon lens, a few extra quid on a Nikon filter seemed worth the while.

This lens filter is fanatastic! It doesn't add anything to the current lens on my Nikon D40 SLR.But it provides the best protection for the lens, keeping dust and other particles from affecting the lens.It saved my lens recently on my last trip, as my camera bag took a tumble, with the SLR inside. The lens filter cracked, but my lens was safe and sound. The only problem was trying to finding a camera store, which was able to remove the damaged filter. You definitely need a filter wrench to get the filter off.In the end I was able to find a nikon repair store, who were able to remove my smashed filter.I would definitely recommend this product and will be purchasing another one,to replace the one I lost.

What can one say about this item? Its well made it fits and it's a genuine Nikon accessory same manufacturer as my camera so you have the added reassurance of a purpose made filter which will protect the lens from sticky fingers and although it's 3 times the price of some alternatives as they always say you get what you pay for! With the price set at just over 20 quid I held back the last star from my rating but I will likely buy another soon as I want the 55-200 lens if Santa obliges and it's the same filter size -cant be bothered swapping over mid shoot.Received very soon after ordering in letterbox friendly package -excellent.

Of course mention Nikon for a product and it nearly always has a price tag. If you want a neutral lens filter cover and have a Nikon lens then buy this I doubt if you will get this size any cheaper in the UK. I had a Hoya UV lens cover before this and I never noticed any difference until I shot a couple of Raw snaps outside and there was a genuine difference to the overall shots in post production, marginal, but a colour effect showed between the two filters and I plumped for the Nikon. May not be everyone's cup of tea to use a neutral filter but if it is choose this one first, you generally get what you pay for

While I'm not had the benefit of using other filter brands before, the Nikon filter I purchased is great. The lens itself is made from (what I can tell) high quality glass and the frame from metal. The overall finish and feel of the filter is that of considerable build and quality. It fits with my 18-55mm VR lens and thus far works wonderfully with my camera.I did consider spending a bit more for a polarised filter, but being new to DSLRs decided against it till I'm a bit more proficient. Likewise I did decide to spend a bit more on a Nikon lens as opposed to other brands, and I've not been disappointed.

Bought to protect the front of my Nikon 24-70 f2.8. Also have one on a 70-200 f2.8. I consider it pointless to spend out on these quality lense's and then put a cheap filter on the front and 'spoil' the quality glass. These are SO clear you have to resist touching the filter to make sure it's there. Top quality and worth the money on top of the range equipment (although I buy other filters for my 'cheaper' lense's!).

Nikon 72Mm Filter Nc Neutral ColourAn excellent product with a thin rim that does not cause vignetting at the wide end of my Nikon 18-200 lens. Photos taken with the filter in place are as sharp and "punchy" as one would expect from Nikon glassware.I would recommend this filter as a permament addition to protect a lens front element and ensure your photos reflect the quality of the lens in use.

I bought this filter for my Nikon P900 as the lens is very large so needs protection while using. I am very pleased with it and It screw on easily and comes with a case for protection if you want to take it off. The glass is so clear you can hardly see it. It is very thin but other filters can be screwed on if you wish. It does not alter colours at all so just what I wanted.

I'm not a camerabug so can't really comment on the minute improvements of photo quality...but this fits so perfectly you don't even know it's there. I have noticed lighting is better in my pictures but honestly I cannot say if it's because km just getting better at using my DSLR. I bought this primarily to protect the lens and it does a bang up job of that.

Seems a lot of money for a bit of plain glass, but this is no ordinary glass. Optically perfect and multi coated to reduce flare. Well worth having to protect the large front element of Nikon professional lenses. In the event of accidental damage to the front element of the lens it is far cheaper to replace the filter than to replace the lens.

I have been a fan of Hoya HMC filters for a while which do well in tests. However one of them was causing some issues on a 400mm lens. Decided to try a Nikon Filter, which cured the problems (due to the flatness of the glass). The Nikon coating also reduces the refelctions noticably compared to the Hoya - maybe half the amount. Very impressed.

Fitted to my P7800, this is an invaluable accessory for protecting the front lens element. It does not affect the image quality or colour balance, and the lens hood screws perfectly into its front thread. Recommended. Don't be tempted by non branded cheaper filters. Put quality glass in front of your quality lens!

Does exactly what I bought it for, protection of expensive lenses without affecting the the quality of the shot and enables the lens coatings to do the job intended. I used to buy UV filters for all of my lenses but they can affect the lens performance which is why we buy the lenses for in the first place !!

This filter was a straight replacement for one that was broken doing what it is supposed to do---protecting the lens from damage! Nikon filters tend to be expensive...but are the best. Screw thread gives a tight fit, but the filter remains easy to remove and I would have no hesitation in recommending it.
