A cheap and cheerful lens. If you don't have deep enough pockets for the 35mm 1.4 this is the lens to go for. 35mm view on ff is a ideal walk about lens and street lens. The auto-focus is not fast nor slow and at F2 there is vingetting, this how ever isn't personally really an issue as generally when shooting at f2 you will be shooting portraits so having a bit of vingett is a-ok. Stopped down it is a sharp lens as one would expect from a prime. The bokeh is pleasant, but nothing special.Don't bother getting this lens if your shooting DX you might as well go for the cheaper 35mm 1.8G. You can get it cheaper, its faster and produces similar images (note that it isn't really suitable to use on a full frame camera). Also if you've got nikons 24-70 2.8 you probably won't need this lens, unless you need a light travel option or don't want to be as intimidating while taking street photos.None-the-less for the price this is a great lens to have in your ff arsenal. It's small so you can pocket it and have it handy when ever necessary and does what most primes do; takes great images with great colours and sharpness.Read full review...

I bought this lens for a full frame D700. I already own the Nikon 50mm f1.8 but find it too close as a general purpose lens, especially used indoors. The 35mm f2 however offers the perfect compromise for me between a wide angle and telephoto lens. It is excellent for use indoors without a flash.Images are very sharp and contrasty - better than the Nikon zoom lenses.I previously owned the Nikon 35mm f1.8 DX lens - this F2 FX lens offers similar levels of contrast to the DX lens. Note this f2 lens can be used on DX cameras - just be sure your camera has an internal AF motor (eg D80, D90, D7000) as it has screw drive focus.Recommended! This lens stays on my camera most of the time.

Taken a few shots with this lens, it performs just as well as the F1.8 DX 35mm lens. Nice bokeh, mild real-world distortion. Auto focus is reasonably quick compared to other Nikkor lenses e.g. the 70-300mm ED lens. I switched to this lens as I upgraded to FX format and needed an AF lens which was backward compatible with the majority of F-mount cameras. I chose this over the FX 35mm G lens as it still retained the aperture selection ring, something which is essential if you're planning to use it on manual (older) F-mount cameras.Overall I highly recommend this lens for any Nikon DLSR user looking at purchasing a lens for manual use in the long term.

This 35mm lens works on nikon DX and FX digital cameras. On FX it is a subtle wide lens. On DX it is a superb 'Normal' lens for the 1.5x format and the comparable equivalent of the 50mm!What makes this lens special is the fie balance between low light shooting, portrait and all round walkabout shoots. The Bokeh is sweet at F2 and up to F2.8 and it is very sharp F2.8 and up to F8. BUT the really pleasing aspect is the depth of color reproduction of this lens. Truly remarkable and it beats its rivals including the 1.8 DX, of which the extra gain in aperture is meaningless!!!

Small, discreet, and super-sharp stopped down beyond f4, with superb colour and microcontrast. It's doesn't really compete with the much faster, more expensive, and larger / heavier 35mm f1.4 lenses, but in my opinion the lens is adequately sharp shot wide open, and you can get a decent backgrond blur depending on your distance to the subject. Considering the price, this is an excellent option; and the small size makes it a great street photography lens.

I wanted a compact lens that is bright and capable of great results. Not much to dislike, it could be smaller, say like Pentax's excellent pancake lenses. It focuses fast on my D700 and D300. Although the 35mm f1.8 would be a better bet for the 1.5 crop factor bodies. In summary, great lens for a FX, full frame camera like a D3 or D700. Go for the f1.8 35mm if you have a DX cropped camera.

This lens, while old, is suitable for FX Nikon cameras. Fast f/2.0 lens gives soft, shallow depth of field. Good performer for what is now a budget priced lens, but only on bodies with the motor built into them (this is screwdrive only).I have found the to work really well on my D700 without the grip, as it becomes a small, walkabout package.

I bought this lens as I own both FX and DX bodies and wanted one lens that would work with both. Not quite as sharp or light sensitive as the DX offering but pretty close, with the advantage of smaller size and bulk. Like it's DX brother it benefits from stopping down a little and from F2.8 is perfectly sharp.

I prefer full-frame cameras and I find the 50mm lens can be a little narrow and a 28mm or 24mm too wide. I have a 24-70mm but it's quite heavy so I opted for the 35mm lens so I could carry about and use my DSLR a bit more.Once I've edited through some test shots I'll upload them my blog getcallaghan

At less than half the price of the lasted f1.8 this a pin sharp lightweight FX prime lens is excellent value for money. OK it may not as good as the latest f1.8 but it is a lot sharper and lighter than any zoom

Simple, lightweight, clean optics, reassuring autofocus. F2 is fine for very low light with a DSLR. Virtually no glare in strong sunlight.
