I have had various pairs of New Balance running shoes and have trained for two marathons in 980s, 1260s and 860s. The 980s are closest to compare these 1080s as they have the fresh foam with significant arch support and the extra tread for longevity of the shoe. The 980s had a foam type of tread which was very cushioning, but could wear quicker than other rubber tread. The pattern in both are similar where it is evenly distributed such that wear isn’t prone to one part of the shoe. This 1080 has the added support as seen in the 1260 and 860 without the more rigid sole. This allows the sole to absorb more impact rather than your foot. This is one of the first pairs of shoes I don’t have to wear a full orthopedic insole as it provides plenty of support for each and ankle right out of the box. I did put in a 3/4 insole for metatarsal support which is also New Balance branded. I was undecided between this 1080v7 and the 1080v9 (newest version 2019). The decision breaker was the orange color ? ?! Both have similar tread pattern for the sole. The 1080v9 has a single panel fabric upper sole which I was unsure of, but will not dismiss until I try it out.

I purchased these after doing extensive research on sneakers that were most compatible with custom made orthotics. These totally fit the bill! They are deep enough to accommodate my orthotics without causing the top of my foot to rub or feel like its getting crushed under the shoe. The only reason I am giving them 4 stars is because the soles wore out very quickly. I've had them for about 6 months and the traction on the bottom that was originally yellow is now literally gone. But in New Balances defense, I've put some serious mileage on these sneakers in that time, so that could very likely be why.I would still highly recommend them to anyone with custom made orthotics who is looking for a good running/walking shoe.

My go-to running shoes are Asic Gel Nimbus but I liked the look of these and after wearing them for a month or so I really like them, they remind me a of a pair of Saucony Glycerins I used to have that fit like they were custom made and had great tactile feel that the Nimbus doesn't. I am 6'2", 240#, and 11.5 2E is my normal size and these fit perfectly, I racked up 13 miles on these today and loved every minute of it, and at the price they simply can't be beat. I wasn't able to replace the Glycerins so I might buy 1 or 2 more pairs of these right now just because finding shoes that fit this well and feel this good are almost impossible to find in my size and color preference.

I know shoe's change their models twice a year or so it appears - but - for this model - this shoe is wide and supple and offers great support for walking and light jogging, trails walking, travelers/tourists and mild gym stress. I didn't buy it for marathons nor for running in mud/foul weather, nor the snow. It is a very good stability shoe, and helps prevent the rolling of the ankles, which is great for trail walking. If you can find it - get it. The color is great in the blue/green look. Fit was EXACTLY right for the size I needed. Not small, not big. Perfect - which is rare nowadays with so much shoe manufacturing going to china - thing rarely fit anymore.

This is a great kick around shoe and running shoe for me. As someone recovering from planter fasciitis I sought out shoes with max cushioning and these do the trick. I do my long runs in Hoka Bondi 5’s, these shoes handle my daily life and runs when I travel. Anyone who knows the Hoka’s knows they’re not pretty shoes...these off much of the same support but look much more fashionable. This is my second pair, the first having lasted almost 500 miles. I highly recommend them for anyone needing a cushioning shoe for running or just kicking around. They also work great when paired with Powerstep insoles for extra arch support.

Love these shoes! These are my first pair of NB and I am hooked. I am a Brooks and Asics person. I use them for my Track sessions 3-4 days per week. I have recently purchased 2 more pair because these feel amazing on the track. I use my Asics Kayano for road racing and competing because the gel creates a smooth impact on hard surfaces. I'm not sure how well these NB will hold up on the road for me, but I see a lot of runners/competitors with these shoes at the starting line. These have a wide tow box VS Asics have a narrow toe box. Once you get use to the wide toe box, Its hard to wear a more narrow shoe like the Asics.

You know how you want to look nice for work but you still want to be comfortable? I find that you can pull off wearing running shoes with a shirt, blazer and jeans -- but they can't just be any running shoes, they have to have a certain look. These shoes have it. If you've ever watched the show House, this is how he always dresses. These shoes look REALLY good with a casual work attire(I have the blue ones but the red ones would too), and they're super light and comfortable.I like to dress with mostly muted colors, and these shoes are often the pop of color in my attire. People always comment on them.

I had a too-old pair of 990s used for walking and on the recommendation of my physician I purchased these. I ordered the same size as my old pair of New Balances, and these were a wee bit snug at first, but they have broken in. The first thing you notice is the firm yet somewhat spongy soles, with the cushion more evenly distributed along the bottom of the foot rather than mostly the heel only. The effect is a more cushioned 'ride' overall. Well made and very light. I really like these! Oh, I did take out the factory insoles per my usual practice and put in a good pair of Dr Scholls.

Avid runner who has a heavier build. My dilemma was always finding a shoe light enough but with sufficient support. This is a perfect fit for both. Ran my first official half marathon in these and did not have sore feet at all. I not only use this for running but to work 13 hour shifts seeing patients. I'm all my feet for the majority of my shift. I love them so much I bought a second pair for myself and then a 3rd pair for a friend who has plantar fasciitis. When he tried them on he told me they were the best he's ever had. A great buy. Huge fan of New Balance !

Incredibly comfortable shoe. I went to my local running shop and told them that I wanted a cushioned shoe with a wide toe box and this was their first suggestion. After putting the 1080s on I didn't bother with any of the others and wore them out of the shop. I love having the space to separate my toes and the cushioning is very effective. I am quite heavy (106 Kg) and these are great shoes for hard surfaces. What I find amusing is that my feet are getting wider as a result of exercises to get ready for minimal shoes!

I like everything but the color, orange is a little "loud" but for a discount I can live with it. I don't run in these, but I have fairly serious plantar fasciitis issues if I'm not very careful, so I wear shoes on my hardwood floors at home, as well as out. Running oriented shoes tend to handle the hot climate where I live the best, and these are becoming some of my favorites. They're light, breath well, have plenty of cushion without being too mushy feeling, and reasonable arch support and stability.

I've been wearing Nike Lunarglides (5, 6 and 7's) for the last several years. The Lunarglide is one of Nike's premium shoes and it is a very good shoe. This New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v7 is a whole step up from the Lunarglide. They're a very comfortable and well made shoe. I also like that there is slightly more room in the toe and through the width.March 2018 Update:Still love this shoe. One of the few shoes that I can wear for many hours and still feel pretty comfortable in.

The width at 2E works but at size 14 it runs 1/2 size to small. At least for me. Normally NB in say a 990 or 993 pair size 14 tends to work no need for 2E width. The leather tend to expand once broken in so I stopped getting 2E. In these Fresh Foam they have nice wide toe area but still needed the 2E and disappointed in being 1/2 size short. Did not want to go into a size 15 when in reality, my shoe size has always been a 13. Nike, NB, ect. what is going on!

I am a female that tried the women's version of this shoe in a size 11 EE since I was trying to get a bit wider shoe this time. Have normally worn 10.5 W in New Balance. The women's 11 EE was too narrow. I then tried a couple of sizes in the men's and had to get a 10 4E to get the width. These definitely run a bit narrow. Once I got a size that worked they are very comfortable. I do not run but walk in them everyday. Got two colors.

This is my first pair of New Balance. I had been told by workout friends to stay away from NB and stick to Brooks for running. I have 3 pair of brooks that I use for running and this pair(my first pair of NB ever) is just as good if not better on comfort while running and the pressure on my knees is gone. I believe I have just found my forever pair running shoes. I also use these at OrangeTheory Fitness and they feel great.
