I will start with a caveat, namely that ultimately there is only one criterion by which to judge a smart thermostat such as the Netatmo, namely whether it saves money. As I got mine in February, it will be another 6 months before I get conclusive proof that I have consumed fewer cubic meters of gas. So, this review focuses on secondary indicators which suggest I am on course to save money. I just can't prove it right now. After having tried a Tado a few years back and ended up so mystified by its behaviour and despairing of its inflexible geo-fencing feature that I sent it back, it took me quite some time and a lot of research to pluck up the courage to buy another similar product. As Nest is owned by Google who I don't trust not to harvest data about my habits and routine, I set about finding a 3rd alternative. Although I like the very competitive price, I was put off by its lack of geo-fencing, suggestions in reviews that customer service left a lot to be desired and installation could be problematic. So, I was leaning towards other competitor products until, at the last minute, I focused on the reporting features of these products. To my surprise, Honeywell didnt even understand the question when I asked what reporting was available. However, because of the very useful demo on the Netatmo site, I could see that the info was just what I wanted. Also, though they dont make a big deal about it, they were offering a 30 day money-back guarantee if purchased directly. That meant, the only issue I had was with finding an installer. On their website, Netatmo offered a postcode based installer look-up but only one name came up and it turned out that they didn't do home installations. So, I was left on my own. Finding a heating engineer/electrician with the required knowledge was as difficult as I expected but one was prepared to give it a go for £80. So, faced with a set of less than desirable option, I decided to buy the Netatmo.Whilst the engineer took much longer than anticipated (nearly 2 hours) to install the relay device, I suspect this had more to do with uncertainty about the wiring of my old boiler than the Netatmo device and his wish to avoid taking any risks with my boiler. Fortunately, he still charged me the agreed £80 but he was quite entitled to charge me well over £100.Anyway, that's the point at which the story takes a happy turn. The Handshake with my wifi worked straightaway. The app went thru its installation routine precisely as described in the manual and everything was up and running in minutes. Absolutely no issues. For the first 2 weeks, Netatmo used its default algorithm to understand how quickly my house heated up and retained the heat input by the boiler. I was very pleased with the result and could see that it was doing a fairly good job of achieving the desired temperature by activating the boiler maybe 20 or 30 minutes before the target temperature was required. Conversely (and this is where the money is obviously saved), turning off the boiler as soon as possible where the house was able to hold the temperature at the required setting. Then, 2 weeks in, Netatmo suggested the use of a different algorithm and that's when it started getting interesting. The reporting pages indicated that in order to achieve a target temperature at, say, 5pm, it would sometimes start 'priming' the house with heat as early as 14:30 for a decreasing duration in the run up to 17:00. At first, this looks perverse as with a conventional timer, you would typically have the boiler on at full blast just 30 minutes before required. However, the more you studied the reports, the more you could see that it was injecting bursts of heat over a period of time, sometimes for 20 minutes, at other times longer. As it was hitting the target consistently, I have to trust that this is more efficient than a more conventional way of heating a house. As I say, as yet, I dont have the proof.Crucial to understanding the behaviour of the device is the reporting which, though good, does have some room for improvement. Because you are presented with a bar chart showing boiler activity in 1 hour slots, when you are told the boiler was working at, say 20%, you don't know whether it was for a continuous 12 minutes during the hour or a different configuration. Call me a nerd but I would like to know this. Another improvement I think should be considered is giving the ability to input gas meter readings and to hook up with the API providing energy supplier tarriffs as the comparison sites do. In this way, you could determine how much you were spending and how much you were saving. Simples.Netatmo doesnt offer geo-fencing. However, it does support IFTTT which means that you can programme a number of events to trigger Netatmo to take certain actions. So, the way, I have it set up, when my mobile phone disconnects from the house wifi, Netatmo goes into Away mode. In other words, it knows I have left home. I also have a rule set so that when I enter a particular radius around my house (which I can set), Netatmo switches to Home mode. In other words, it starts warming up the house in anticipation of my return. This has been working really well on my partners iPhone. On my android, it worked extremely erratically. I dont know the reasons for this and they may be down to the particular model phone I have (a Sony XZ1 Compact) but the main thing is that though not native, geofencing with the Netatmo works very well.So good has my experience with Netatmo been that I would argue that you need this device much more than the much overhyped smart meters. They may tell you how much gas you are using but unlike a smart thermometer they dont do anything to save you money. If I find the evidence that I am consuming more gas than pre-Netatmo, I will update this review, but if not, assume that I continue to be happy.P.S. The coloured decals are a cheap gimmick that will annoy more than they impress. Sorry.

I recently became the owner of a Netatmo thermostat and after a few days of using and examining it in detail I wish to give you some honest user feedback about it. It is an absolutely great thermostat, one of the best on the market, but I think it could still use a bit of improvement. Why I bought the Netatmo thermostat (and not one of the competitor smart thermostats) and what I love about it (most important first):- The promise that soon there will be smart radiator valves working with it- Integration with Amazon Echo- Integration with the Domoticz home automation system- IFTTT integration- Separation of the thermostat from the relay module- Elegant and simplistic design- Portability of the thermostat (ability to easily move from one room to another, not necessary to mount it on a wall, has its own mobile stand)- Detailed heating graphs on the web and in the mobile app- E-ink display which saves battery and also no LED's on the thermostat which bother the user at nightWhat could be improved:- Release the smart radiator valves sooner than later- Easier switching between different schedules. the web interface provides the possibility to easily switch between schedules through the use of a combo box, but the Android app does not. In the android app the user has to go through several clicks in the settings to change the current schedule. I personally have two schedules: "Work week" and "Stay at home". Since I randomly find out in the morning whether I will have to go to the office or stay at home, I want to be able to quickly switch between these two schedules from my phone as soon as I wake up in the morning.- The control of the target temperature is not precise enough. The target temperature can be changed in increments of 0.5 degrees, which I find to be not granular enough. For example a target temperature of 21.5 degrees is too low for me but a target temperature of 22 degrees is too high. I'd like to be able to change the target temperature in increments of 0.25 degrees.- The control of the heating intervals is not precise enough. The start/end points of the intervals can be changed in increments of 15 minutes. I would like to be able to change the start/end points of the intervals with minute-level precision. For example I wish to set the end of the night mode at 6:23AM, not at 6:15AM or 6:30AM.- The thermostat does not show the state of the boiler (On or Off). The web interface and the mobile app have this enhancement, but I would like to just glance at my thermostat and see if the boiler is on or off.- Physically existing button on the thermostat to toggle the Away mode. Again, this can only be done from the web interface or from the mobile app, not from the thermostat itself.- Better API. I took a look at the publicly available API and I can't find a way to ask the thermostat whether the boiler is On or Off. Probably this is why I can't ask my Amazon Echo about the status of the boiler and I also can't see this in Domoticz.- Better Amazon Echo skill. the current Amazon Echo skill is very limited. I can only change the set-point temperature. The skill won't even tell me the current measured temperature. It won't tell me the state of the boiler either. It does not allow me to use my Amazon Echo to set the thermostat to Away mode or to schedule mode. It feels like this skill has only been created for marketing purposes, for being able to advertise it's existence, but in reality it has very limited capabilities.- Better graphs on the web and in the mobile app. The graphs on the web are almost perfect. Their only problem is that they are not shown for the correct time intervals. For example when I'm looking at the graphs for the week I wish to see the data for the past 7 days, not for the current week. This is especially true at the beginning of a week. If I open the graphs on Monday, I don't just want to see the data for Monday, I wish to see the data for the past 7 days. Same is true for month and year. The mobile app graphs should be the same as the web-based graphs. Currently the mobile graphs are a bit strange, I'm never exactly sure which period of time I'm seeing the data for.

I installed this to replace an existing wireless thermostat, which had consisted of a control box and wirelessly connected thermostat - units equivalent to the Netatmo's relay and thermostat units. As my boiler is sited outside the house, there was already wiring in place providing connections to match those on the relay adaptor cable, which becomes merely an extension to the existing wiring. Connecting up the unit up for testing has been easy, though to make a tidy job of the final installation and hide the cables I am going to have to cut off and discard all but a short length of cable from the relay adaptor. It is a pity that the relay can't be mounted on the UK patress (or backbox)that the original control unit was mounted on, as it would have made the installation easier and tidier.Having connected the relay, and tested that it was working, I turned to the thermostat unit, inserted the batteries, and attached it to its back for use as a free-standing and portable item. Every thing worked exactly as is it should, but on turning back to the relay I saw the light was flashing, and it refused to return to a steady on or off, even after being power-cycled. At this point I assumed that the unit was faulty, but was interrupted by a phone call, and wen I returned about an hour later the problem, whatever it had been, seemed to have resolved itself. I therefore set up a Netatmo account, and tried to use it to setup the relay. However, my phone was permanently unable to find it.Up to this point I had been following the instructions provided. As setup through the phone app had failed, I deployed Plan B - which login to the Netatmo website on my laptop, download and run the setup wizard app, and connect the relay to the laptop using the USB cable provided. The relay was instantly recognised, and the first thing to happen was a firmware update. It was then just a matter of selecting the wifi network to use, entering the network password and then entering the credentials for my new Netatmo account. Everything was now done, so I re-connected the relay to the relay adaptor, and let it to connect to the relay. My next step, having demonstrated that everything was working, was to introduce the unit to HomeKit, via the Home app on my iPhone. This was easy, with the setup code displayed at the appropriate moment on the display of the thermostat. Again everything now seems to work perfectly, and if anything should go wrong I'll amend this review to reflect it! I would just note here that whilst the relay is quite quick to respond to "on" signals from the thermostat, it takes significantly longer to respond to "off" signals. However, and the delay is typically <20secs this is not important, even if it may be worth noting. So, this itemt is well-designed, apparently will-built, and easy to install and setup - with the proviso that you may need to wait for some time before the relay becomes available for configuration, and you may need to actually configure it using a laptop rather than the phone app. Those two little glitches aside I have found this to be a very simple and straightforward installation.I was so please with this device that I subsequently installed a number of Netatmo thermostatic radiator valves, and it is here that I have found a decided weakness in the Netatmo system. All the devices - thermostat and radiator valves - communicate directly with the Relay unit, which contains the "smarts" of the system, using a non-wifi private wifeless network. For the most part this works perfectly. However, I live in an old house with thick walls, and the location of one radiator means that the signal between it and the relay must travel at a very shallow angle through a 2' thick brick wall, which so attenuates the signal that the valve intermittently (and apparently randomly) disconnects from the Relay - sometimes for hours at a time. There seems to be no way to overcome this limitation: Netatmo valves do not seem to cooperate with one another in forwarding signals, and unlike some other manufacturers Netatmo do not have the facility to add any form of signal extender device.

Super easy to use, its pretty easy to install a bit of simple logic is all that's required. The 'relay' has 2 wires for a constant live, and 2 wires that are simply a switch to request heat, you could if so inclined simply replace an existing thermostat with this (provided you find a permanent live as well) or you could, like I did remove your old thermostat and old programmer simply have the Netatmo.Remembering the old thermostat is just an on/off switch, and the programmer is just an on/off switch that's all your replacing two on/off switches with Netatmo as an on/off switch. My suggestion would be download the wiring diagram of your existing thermostat and programmer,on my 2 channel programmer terminal 4 went to the thermostat which then connected to the mid section valve, so when heating was requested a live mains connection was passed from terminal 4 of the programmer into the thermostat then on to the white wire of the mid section valve thus requesting heat.To replace this setup, which is probably fairly standard on a old style fully pumped heating/hot water system, I simply wired one of the Netatmo 'switch' wires into permanent live, the other end straight to the white wire on the mid section valve, thus bypassing the programmer and old thermostat, yet simulating the same signal as would be provided by the old programmer/thermostat.Now of course on a system like mine the programmer is still required to run the hot water, but the 'central heating' channel of the programmer now does nothing, remember to remove terminal 4 wire, as it could still supply a live if the central heating was accidentally activated on the programmerI've seen a couple of complains on other review sites stating that the Netatmo is a 'volt free switching' device thus incompatible with systems that require a 230v live, to that I say you did the right thing in sending the device back, clearly electricity is far to complicated a thing for you to be messing about with, I mean seriously if you've found a permanent live source for the Netatmo you've already found the live required for the switch! As demonstrated above. If you have a more modern system like a combi-boiler I would have imagined its even easier to wire as you don't have hot water wiring to worry about, I'll be wiring a combi-boiler Netatmo next month for my Mum, will report back on how easy or difficult it is.Personally I'd get the wiring of the relay sorted before doing the wifi/account setup, post wiring the rest of the setup is a doddle, there's a couple of videos on youtube on how to setup the relay to your wifi, I opted to connect to my laptop via usb, it was really simple. The reason I went for the Netatmo over the many many other options out there, it is very good value for money at this price, and its a complete kit, you don't need an additional wifi relay to use this over the internet, the thermostat can be wall mounted or free standing, its all there. and coming soon will be the Netatmo smart radiator valves which will fit in with this system, sure Hive2 can do that too, but its twice the price.

ordered this through Black Friday deals. I wanted to replace my old thermostat (IMIT TA2) .I had difficulties with installation and had to call a technician due to the fact that wiring was weird at least in the house. So everything was working the opposite way than normal. (. If the house wiring was normal, it could be simply straight forward to do the installation alone.)Old thermostat used 3 wires, live 220v, switch live and neutral. I replaced the old thermostat on the wall with relay and have the netatmo thermostat in living room , it works perfectly..main reasosn for the replace was-old thermostat didn't work correctly- it was working like an on/off switch. Small light was always on,so it was the electrovalve and the boiler.-wanted to have the thermostat in living room and not in the corridor-wanted to remotely control it (through wifi) so to turn it on before i arrive home so to find a warm home when arriving.the rest , PID and other futures are not so critical for me and just nice to have . So far so good, it works as expected.just to add 2 notes for other users that might dig in the internet for information for their future purchase1. It is not very clear (from the installation manuals) and you need to search in the forums to find out that someone can replace their old thermostat (ie in the corridor ) with the relay and have the thermostat floating here and there (it works with batteries anyway).I suppose many people understand from the instructions that they have to install the relay it into boiler room or somewhere near. This is not always the case it seems..2. in the netatmo forum regarding the thermostat, when someone asks for some information -advise for the installation/replacement of old thermostat, when netatmo support sees a 3 wire old thermostat they always send an advise and an emai that the installation is not compatible with their product. And give you an advise to use an extra relay 220v.I can tell you that this is not always the case. . I had 3 wires but one was netral (mainly use for turning on the small light on old thermostat). I didn't need a relay to do the installation3. support is just not there. They don't answer the emails. I had sent email to netatmo prior to the purchase , sent them photos to check compatibility , contacted support when had issues with installation (which finally was a house problem and not tetatmo's).Their automated mail response is that we are busy at this time, and we will look soon to the problem when we find some time to deal with you.it is just insane. (it seems that they are so sure for their product that they just don't give a s**t if someone can't make it and need some extra help)Pity, that support thing make them loose new sales for sure.I give 5 stars for the product (since it does what i wanted). if in the near future stops working as expected, might come back to reviseFor their support , i would give them 1 star, but you know, it is them that they loose sales. As long as that thing works and not needed their help i am ok,

I installed the Netatmo thermostat to replace a Honeywell mechanical thermostat with four wires. The Netatmo manual is confusing in its description of how to wire up in this situation. You need to identify the two wires that control the boiler and system heating. So if there are four wires like mine the earth and neutral wires are not used and should be bent back and insulated with plastic tape. Make sure power is turned off before opening up and working on the wiring. The two remaining wires should be the live feed from the boiler and a switched live back to the boiler. In the old fashioned mechanical thermostat a physical switch is activated when the thermostat calls for heat this activates the boiler heating circuit. The live in wire should be connected to the top Netatmo connector and the switched live wire to the bottom Netatmo connector.A key reason for installing the Netatmo is to improve control of the home heating system and hopefully save some cash in going so. The old mechanical thermostat and set schedule of on off heating times is fine but it does not predict the most efficient times to turn the heating off and on it reacts but does not learn. The Netatmo learns the insulation properties of your home, uses outside temperature to predict an efficient on off time. So you should make sure that the heating prediction is enabled in the app - it takes a few weeks to learn, meanwhile if the thermostat is installed outside of a winter period home temperatures may be acceptable for most of the day and night but need occasional boiler bursts to top up in colder periods. To do this I set the default time of manual set points to 30 minutes rather than the default 3 hours. Then if it gets a tad chilly I use the app to increase the required temperature for a boost in heat. I then have the scheduled temperature set below that required heat so that the Netatmo does not call for inessential heating. The heating graphs are very useful - the black curve shows the internal home temperature, the orange line the preset temperature and the orange vertical bars indicate the boiler burn periods. In winter I increase the preset temperature, in this case the black curve will be below the orange line when there is a need for heating. My relay is plugged in a wall socket close to an Apple Express WiFi and connects at 72Mbs, the relay is about 20 feet from the Netatmo and has a robust WiFi connection that is rock solid. The setup on an iPad or iPhone was very easy, WiFi passwords and stettings are automatically read by the app - at one stage a code is displayed by the Netatmo this is scanned by the iPhone to make a secure connection - it is a twelve digit code, hack proof I would say. Once connected heating can be controlled via Apple Home and Siri voice controls remotely.Update: My boiler developed a fault and Netatmo sent me an email as the heating temperature had not increased - thanks Netatmo I was able to reset my boiler and the wifey didn’t have a cold shower.

This was my foray into IOT and having it now in for a month can highly recommend it.We have a Danfoss radio controlled thermostat and hot water system so trying to follow the wiring diagrams was a waste of time and didnt want to link it directly to the boiler. If you have a multimeter and a logical way of working out what signal gets sent when the old thermostat triggers ht boiler, then it was a doddle and having worked out exactly how to connect it in it works a treat in the junction box, not the boiler. It also meant that the old Thermostat can be kept in case of any problems, Just remember to take the battery is out as we forgot one night, making the house nice and warm while Netamo thought it was doing nothing.I've seen some complaints about the installation instructions, but despite my initial frustrations, (one day!), I think it unfair as heating systems in houses are very varied, but also simple, so hard for any after market provider to provide a full installation guide for every case. The most important thing to remember is the the relay is a relay - as in it is a switch it only connects the circuit across the grey and black wires. So one wire has to be live and the other has to link tot he boiler. If you can keep that simple principal in mind its a simple to install without touching the boiler.Packaging is similar to that found onn the eraly iPod - ie.e. superb they have obviously thought about the unboxing experience - a bit extravagant given that its only a thermostat. The Thermostat its self is a cute minalmistic display simple to change manually. The web app tells you about its battery level and also its radio and wifi connectivity.Getting the Thermostat to pair with he relay is simplicity its self - as long as the relay has power, then with he thermostat close, to the relay adding the batteries and it pairs very quickly. Then you can take the thermostat further away, (from upstairs to downstairs in our case). In terms of both the android and Ios app, it works flawlessly. The web application is very good and actually provides data on how good your house is in terms of efficiency - so provide some good material is and when you come to sell it.After the first 7-8 days it created its own algorithm. A thing to watch on the web app set up is that you can set the intelligence in a number of different ways including telling it to take the external temperature from the local forecast... a neat featureThe only downside and its a really minor one, the screws supplied to mount the relay are rubbish! Oh yes customer ace by email took a week to come back, by which time I'd sorted it out and had it up and running.Since putting this in, I've added a welcome camera which integrates nicely on the web. Installation and getting it going wasn't quite as smooth (took 2 days!), but its now fine.So overall, if you want a clever thermostat that you can control remotely, this is good package.

After years of struggling with a non-smart wireless Drayton thermostat remote which nobody understood how to use, we bit the bullet and did some research into modern heating controls. I wanted a simple-to-use system with no ongoing subscription, native HomeKit integration, manual overrides for when the Internet is playing up and the option to expand our investment at a later date with extra controllers. In the end I chose Netatmo's thermostat, which is definitely one of the better looking options on the market (a happy coincidence). We managed to install the main hub without any problems at all - a straightforward replacement for the old Drayton - and it immediately interfaced with our Vaillant combi boiler as though they were childhood friends. The e-ink screen on the portable thermostat doesn't drain the batteries fast and the actual thermostat hub by the boiler is wired in so there's no tinkering required after the initial installation. There's an option to screw the portable thermostat controller block to a wall but I quite like being able to carry it around, it's attractive enough to sit by a clock and look like part of the decor. One of the quirks of the design is that you can customise the white gadgets with the provided coloured stickers (the stock art uses orange but you can go green, blue, yellow or leave it white if you prefer) in order to match your room. It's a cute gimmick even though the actual colours are quite subtle.A few weeks have passed since then and I haven't been cold for a moment since - finally, I'm in control of our heating! The Netatmo app (also accessible via the website, conveniently) records everything in detail so you can track your boiler usage and get as familiar with your home's heating demands as you want. If you don't care, it's just one click to make things warmer/colder. You can schedule each day's healing independently and override the schedule with a temporary boost if you're feeling particularly chilly. Apple's HomeKit support is smooth and easy to set up. I was originally planning on using HomeKit on its own but the Netatmo app has stayed around for quick access to all of the heating logs and nerdy details. It's a solid piece of software.I was initially worried about support from reading other reviews but the one time I needed to contact Netatmo support via Twitter they were courteous and gave me a quick response in fluent English. The smart radiator valves (TRVs) you can optionally install to get finer control of your heating room-by-room come with a set of adapters which happened to be unsuitable for our radiators, and because of the daft post-Brexit UK VAT rules it was difficult to obtain the extra adapters we needed from the continent. No problem - Netatmo sorted me out and we've just ordered another batch of the valves to set up the rest of the house for smart heating. I'm satisfied that this was the best smart thermostat for my needs.

So glad I went for this. Have thought about an upgrade from our simple on/off thermostat, as fitted by BG, for quite a while - and this system is so well thought out. Although it arrived all in French, it was quick to get the English instructions on the Netatmo website - and it was very easy to fit, but does require some basic electrical knowledge if you have an unusual fitting.Ours was a dual-control hot-water / central heating one, with a dial thermostat to the side. To cut a short story even shorter, the 4 wires from the Netatmo relay device wired straight into the back of the dual controller, leaving it just controlling the hot water - with the Netatmo taking over the central heating. My only bug-bear is that the instructions get you to plug the relay into an adaptor, which you then have to unplug in order to setup the WiFi (otherwise you can't get to the USB connector). That and that the optional mains-plug was the 2-pin Euro style - but I'm not sure if a UK 3-pin version is even available? Perhaps someone could comment on this?On the whole, DON'T confuse this with some cheap internet-enabled thermostat. This is an incredibly well thought-through piece of kit - from the moment you open the box, to the final App or Web experience, it's just fantastic. It's only been running a few hours but I'm immensely impressed by the quality and design - so despite the 2-pin mains plug and French instructions, it still gets 5 stars.UPDATE: 5 days on and the 'PID' mode has kicked in, having learned a bit about my house. So rather than looking at the current temperature and turning the boiler on and off, instead it predicts when the indoor temperature will start to drop and turns the boiler on in advance. This results in an almost constant temperature in the house - even in the rooms that suffered in the past because they were less well insulated, because the boiler is coming on more often, but for less time. I can see this saving money, as we'll no longer get the hot and cold swings we used to before fitting this bit of kit. Predictive mode has also kicked-in which means it works out how long it takes for the house to warm up in the morning and starts heating a bit earlier. (You can turn these features off, but why would you?)ANOTHER UPDATE: 4 months later and I'm still very happy with this. A very clever piece of kit that's so easy to use. I've now bought the Netatmo Weather unit - although this, like the thermostat, offers so much more than competitive units. For a start, it showed that CO2 build-up in my home was becoming a problem - which was something I'd never considered in the past. That, along with a nasty humidity problem, was fixed using a Nuaire Drimaster 2000 (see my rather long review!). All in all, my home is now much improved.

Simply Brilliant. If you are looking for a smart thermostat for your home heating system then you don't need to look any further.Having spent much time researching all the available brands / options available I eventually settled on the Netatmo and am glad I did.Like the product offered by Nest the Netatmo is intelligent and learns your personal usage patterns, eventually predicting when you want heat by itself. It does this by the use of a heating algorithm which learns your heating demands and your homes heat characteristics, and also uses local weather reports for heating prediction. This is something that the hive product offered by British gas does not do,essentially that product is nothing more than a fairly blunt remote control, which may be suitable for many but was not what i was looking for. This also goes for similar products like the Salus it500.Another plus is that this product was designed for the European market from the ground up unlike the nest which had to be adapted for the European market. This made the installation process (in my case) an absolute doddle, It really was just a case of removing the old Thermostat and connecting this one in its place and plugging the supplied wireless relay in an available socket, job done! But dont worry if you get any problems or if you just want reassuring about the process there is lots of support available on the Netatmo forum (link available on the main Netatmo website but it is - _http://forum.netatmo.com/ ).The interface used to control and set up the Netamo is also very good and easy to use, whether you use the web interface or the available phone / tablet Apps.Another big bonus here is that if you have a windows phone there is also an App available for you, something for some reason many other manufactures fail to cater for so a big thumbs up to Netatmo for that. The dashboard allows you to schedule limitless amounts of on/off periods and indeed when you first use the app it presents you with a small quiz / questionnaire to help you set up your own personalised schedule. It saves all your historical temp data, boiler on off periods, and shows you your usage stats in graph form which you can access at any time and also download as you wish. It really is very interesting to see how your home uses heat and and how good it is at storing it, giving you a good indication of the efficiency of your homes insulation.Turning temperature up and down on demand is simple whether using your phone app or pc or locally at the thermostat itself (local manual temperature control is not available with the Tado system, something else that may be worth considering when making your decision on which to buy).So in conclusion would i recommend the Netatmo Thermostat? quite simply YES YES YES

UPDATE 2 : After chasing some support for this device (and after having to replace a faulty Thermostat), I received some of the most friendly and comprehensive support I've ever encountered. Yes, it took too much time to get there - but it seems that the demand for the device has been very high since the Black Friday deal - and people are looking to get install support. I will cut them some slack...I have had the replacement device up and running for a day or so now, and I am impressed. It's not overly fussy, but it does all that I need it to do! For added geeknes - I love the Amazon Echo support. I think that there are few things I'd like Echo to be able to do, i.e.I want to ask what the current temperature is in my home - but I am more than satisfied.I also use IFTTT with the Netatmo for GeoFencing some operations (When I leave the area, set the Netatmo system to 'Away', and then return it to the schedule when I'm nearing home) which gives added functionality.I will still mark this down a star as the installation instructions are ambiguous in places - but after I found their Forum ([...]) very useful.Would I recommend it - even after the hassle I had? Yes. I am glad I stuck with it.Would I recommend it on the non-offer price? I still think Yes - but I don't know how it stacks up against the competition - at the offer price, it was a no-brainer.UPDATE: I am now up and running thanks to advice from Amazon customers and others willing to help. I still have had no support from Netatmo. My rating stands based on the support (or lack thereof) for the device - which seems to work perfectly now it's installed.Upfront - I have not installed this. So how can I give it two stars? I do that due the fact that I CAN'T install it. The instructions are not very good, and from my frantic research, are actually wrong in places. Mine tells me that I would have either two or four wires on my existing Thermostat. I have three, As the replacement Thermostat has only two connections, I am at a loss which to use. So....they explain that I should take a picture of the current device, and the wiring and they will tell me.Three days have passed, and all I have is an email saying that they are busy. Currently my purchase is sitting in a box gathering dust. I'll give it two more days before it's returned. Please bear in mind that I checked the compatibility on thier website, and I was meant to be good to go. I am a total non-DIYer - but I believed that the "If you can wire a plug" blurb. They offered help, but I have no idea when I will recieve any.I can't review how it works - so this is just a review on the disappointing instructions - and the disappointing support.

I looked at a variety of thermostats before deciding on this one, based on what facilities it offered as well as cost. 2 weeks after installation it cropped up as a lightning sale and I could have saved £40, but hey!Installation took just over 1 hour. I had contacted Netatmo to verify that the thermostat would fit my boiler and they responded promptly with a link to the online manual for the boiler which contained a wiring schematic. All I had to do was remove the front cover and unscrew the control panel. No further dismantling was necessary as all connections needed for installation were exposedWhat took the time was trying to squeeze both mains feed and feed to the boiler adaptor into the same connector hole.Eventually, I just cut the soldered tails off the wires, twisted them and stuck them back in. Screwed the adaptor on the wall, fitted relay and tested that it was connected properly as per Netatmo instructions. Perfect.Another 5 minutes to connect up a laptop to the relay and make the connection to the wifi network. Got the thermostat in the living room and soon everything was up and running.Used iPad to adjust the pre-set schedules to my needs and thereafter the heating came on exactly when I had set it and switched off when the room reached the desired temperature and at the end of the schedule. Just over a week later the iPad indicated a notification that my heating requirements had been worked out and a personalised algorithm was ready should I wish to use it - which I did.Now the system takes account of the outside temperature, having set the house location on a map in the app., and how long it takes to heat up the living room. So now when I want the house to be toasty, it is.The app and webpage helped me see when the boiler was being switched on and for how long. As I only had a timer on the boiler in addition to radiator thermostats, I expect to see a real reduction in the amount of gas being used. The other rooms in the house are slightly cooler but as these are not used as much, it is not really an issue. If I move to another room then I just move the thermostat, or up the set temperature. One thing to note if you, like me, have a stone built house. My boiler is in a utility room built on the rear of the house with a thick stone wall between. To avoid wifi issues, I installed a wifi repeater, which has worked well. The thermostat works well through the stone wall and an internal wall. However, if I move into a different wing of the house, the radio contact between the thermostat and relay drops out.Looking forward to comparing this year's energy bills with last year's to see how the thermostat has impacted.

Bought this product in the Xmas sales at a lower price than the usual £149. I did some research probably like yourselfs reading this now and still wasn't fully committed to purchasing this thermostat. However the time came and it next thing you know the Post man drops it off.Setup.Ok let's face it - from previous reviews, the setup can be slightly confusing to those that have no knowledge in wiring etc. I am no means an expert either however this is what google and YouTube is designed for. Do some research on your boiler find out where the electrical terminals are. Place the right coloured cables into the right holes which YouTube videos help you with and you'll be absolutely fine! The only issues I had with the setup was once the relay system was installed you need to try and activate the wifi on it, this connects to your router through the Netatmo app and enables the relay to read your home network password, the app kept going into a loop and not establishing my relay. I reset the app and all the process had been complete. The use.Now don't get me wrong I have only had this product for less than a week. So in terms of 'lastability' I can't comment.Everything about it is absolutely fantastic. I can move the thermostat into different rooms if I wish. The temperature readings very precise (not like my previous). It is so simple to use.The appThis is where the brilliance lies. The Netatmo app for this product is excellent, you can customise your heating schedule so precisely each day of the week. You can also setup X amount of schedule if you so wish. It's has some set temperatures stored for things like 'night', 'eco', 'comfort mode', 'away' and 'frost mode'. You have the ability to change all the temperature settings on the app. I also like the fact that if you turn your smart phone sideways, it brings up a near as dammit minutely graph of the day showing when your heats been on, the temperature you want the house to be and the temperature that it is. Best feature for me is knowing your going to be home sooner than anticipated, going on the app turn your heating up slightly and bingo, a nice warm house to walk into!OverallIf your contemplating a smart thermostat I highly recommend this one. I haven't had to deal with customer services etc and my installation went swimmingly. A key stand out from this one to other competitors is that this one doesn't have motion sensor for when you leave the house to turn your heating down. Not a problem in my eyes because before I leave I'll just change the temperature or whilst I'm out I can go on the app and change it.I hope this review helped in some way.

Not as fancy as Nest or Hive, but a stylish and practical alternative. Being able to override the the heating programme from afar is actually far more useful than you might imagine!Amazon don't like to mention it, but it actually works just as well with Google Home as it does with Alexa. So voice control of your heating is as simple as saying "make it warner", or "set the heating to 19".Netatmo have tried to make this as easy to DIY install as possible, with the hardware for a number of installation options in the box (and a decor plate to disguise any places where people have previously painted around old thermostats and programmers). For the most part this is successful (if a little wasteful). The downside of this is that,by trying to be all things to all men, it makes installation over an existing recessed wall box difficult. Whether they never considered this possibility, or just thought "sod it", I don't know. But it meant that I had to mount it to a switch blanking plate, as this was the only way I could cover the hole, so my relay unit sticks out at least 50mm from the wall, and looks like a sore thumb. As you can see in my pictures, I have since made up a plastic cover to disguise the unsightly gap, but frankly it still looks a bit manky, and I would like to see an adaptor for a standard switch plate included with the thermostat, or at least made available as a UK accessory. That niggle aside it does what I want perfectly, without fuss, and provides interesting advanced features as the thermostat learns the idiosyncracies of your installation.Has it saved me any money? Although the app tries tries very hard to convince me it has, I can't see that it has made much difference in the real world. I had already fine tuned my heating programme over the last 10 years, and I keep a close eye on my energy usage from week to week. It stands to reason that my heating is on just as much (or as little) as it has always been at this time of year. I must say though, I get a lovely smug feeling every time I manually turn off the heating, and I must be saving a few pennies. Not many penies, but a few nonetheless! How long it would take to for those few pennies cover the purchase cost (mine was £90) is anyone's guess. So, unless you have a system without so much as a basic thermostat, I would ignore the claims of money saving as hyperbole, and base your purchase on the practical aspects of a smart thermostat at a sensible price. All in all, then, I have no hesitation in recommending this device as the next stage in home heating control for those who want smart control without all the complications.

Just installed the Netatmo thermostat. What is good with this thermostat is that there is two ways to install and set up. You can either use it to replace an existing wall thermostat or you can wire it up directly to your boiler and then install the thermostat in a any location in your home. I chose to go for the former, as I wasn't keen on opening up my boiler and rewiring things. To install you simply disconnect your existing wall thermostat, identify the appropriate wires needed, install the new mounting plate for Netatmo and then connect to the thermostat. This was probably the easiest part of the process as I was fortunate not to have complicated wiring and it was a pretty straightforward swap over.Thankfully my previous thermostat was similarly sized, therefor I didn't need to use the bundled plastic plate. One feature that is really handy is regardless of what way up you install the Netatmo it automatically adjusts the screen orientation, in my case the wiring meant I needed to install the mount upside down. You also get a variety of bright coloured stickers to add to your Netatmo, I opted not to use one, preferring to have the white thermostat as is.The second part of the installation requires you to set up the relay. This is the small box that connects to the internet and wirelessly connects to the thermostat. You need to plug this into a wall outlet in a location that is relatively close to the thermostat but also where it gets a decent wifi signal. This stage took a good three attempts to get going. On iOS the relay utilities the AirPort Accessory set up, essentially it copies your wifi information from your iPhone. This didn't work on the first couple of attempts for me. Finally it connected, but then the relay wouldn't connect to the thermostat. After turning everything off and on again, this seemed to get going. The app itself is pretty self explanatory, you can also connect it to HomeKit on iOS, allowing you to add automations etc. The app will ask you for some information, like when you get up, go to work, come home and go to bed. It will then build a schedule. You can add additional schedules, i.e. if you're on holiday or day off. Over time the thermostat learns information about it's surroundings, i.e. how long it takes to heat up relative to the weather outside. My initial impressions are that it's pretty decent and straightforward to use. I'm not sure how accurate the thermostat is, as from initial monitoring the readings seem to differ quite a bit from my previous thermostat.
