TL;DR: well built, not too loud and great fun!-----I used to have a very similar product when I was a young lad, so when I saw this on a daily deal I couldn't resist.My old one was piercingly loud and it used to annoy my folks pretty bad, so I was glad to see that the noise has been toned down with this newer edition - though it is worth noting that you can still hear a slight whistle when it's thrown, so the old joy is still there!The football is very well built and I have no worries of letting anyone have a go, however big their biceps are, this should be up to the task.Have had a few sessions with friends and the fun nostalgia is there without the annoying noise for those who are near you but not playing!-----If you found this review useful,

I purchased this for a trip to the beach and I'm glad I did! When it first arrived I was disappointed by the cheap feel and remember instantly thinking, this is going to break/rip soon. Well to my surprise it didn't, its actually built very strong and thanks to the weighted nose always lands tip first which is thankfully slightly reinforced.The 'howl' or whistle as it glides through then air is audible but not as loud as I would've liked and that is my only real gripe but still not enough to put it in the 4 star category.Since taking to the beach and having endless hours of fun with it with the kids,

The Vortex Aero Howler has been great fun, you can throw it pretty far if you have a good arm and it can be thrown accurately. The name "Howler" is a bit misleading as the sound effect isn't massive or much of a howl but it does add to the product. The quality is very good, you can throw it in many ways including from the tail fins - very solidly attached and it has landed from great heights without any damage. It is quite heavy and relativity hard - you wouldn't be wanting to hit any kids in the head with it that's for sure... It can sting your hands quite a bit if you catch it wrong.. I would say it's more for ages 8+. Great fun, keeps you fit, gets you outside so recommend for sure!

A friend bought me one of these for a birthday present about 6 years ago. Unfortunately I lost it on a beach whilst on holiday last year.As the original one had given me so much fun I decided it was time to get another. And it's just as epic as the first one. It's so sturdily put together that you can catch it with the tail fin with no danger of it breaking off.A friend of ours spent £5 on a larger ball of a similar design from a seaside shop in Wales. Although it looked pretty good, it had basically fallen apart after just a few hours of use.When you divide the cost of this product by the number of hours of fun it will give you, it's ridiculously good value for money.

We purchased a similar product to this a couple of years ago and it was naff. Within a couple of days the fins at the back had started falling off, and it was consigned to the bin. I decided to try again with a genuine Nerf product and I'm glad I did - it's been absolutely brilliant. On a two week beach holiday to Portugal it got played with every day and showed zero signs of wear. My 11 year old and I had particular fun throwing it to each other, but the whole family including my 2 and 5 year olds had a go. You can throw it like a Rugby ball or even under-arm from the tail end. A fantastic beach toy.

Firstly, it's foam construction means this can wear and tear quickly. Use on grass and don't let your kids pull at it, it will break easily. Otherwise though, this is an epic toy. I encourage any adult to get this for their kids (probably 7+ to appreciate it). Adults get the most fun though, so get one for the summer, they really are the best thing I've ever thrown! You can throw this straight as an arrow with minimal effort or coordination, so you feel like an instant pro. What an epic toy, so glad I came across this during a trip to the US, I needed it in my life years ago!

Keeping the kids entertained on holiday is difficult, this provides hours of fun, merry is always a good brand and this is of really good quality, good grip on the main part of the howler, was a little bit sceptical of the howling part but it really does give a good sound when you throw it right. Took this on holiday and played with it constantly in private pool. Withstood a week of rough use no problem.You wouldn't want to be hit direct in the face at full speed, but the body is firm foam.The water meant it sometimes lost it's whistle when thrown (not too shrill or overly loud BTW) but a firm squeeze did the trick when it got a bit heavier if some water soaked in.Just as much fun playing 'catch' or 'tag' on dry land, great to throw (like a mini rugby ball) either directly or up in the air to hear the whistle for longer.

I have wanted one of these for years. Had the mini one and loved it (about 10 years+ old and still in great condition given the abuse) so this one has a lot to live up to.This one doesn't look as good as the original but that's only looks.It has been stood on by an adult, kicked about, thrown off the side of buildings and left hurried under a heavy pile of bags for several days. And it so far has been fine.It has helped my son with his hand eye coordination. And it kinda whistles.

Arrived on time, well packaged and my Grandson would have loved it if the Manchester Airport security hadn’t confiscated it. Apparently it represents a weapon of mass destruction and therefore was not allowed on the plane. I did say I could do more damage swinging my handbag, but they wouldn’t budge. So be warned, this item is so dangerous it is not allowed on a plane in hand luggage. I will have to purchase this item again as my Grandson was so disappointed ?.

Bought to help teach my 6 year old to catch better. Flies much like a rugby ball with the tail providing stability so it doesn't spin in mid air. Really helped with my daughters confidence when it comes to catching. Howler only really works if you're throwing it hard so we don't hear it a lot with her but my older son loves to make it whistle.We've bought two now as the first ended up in a thorn bush. It had to be replaced as it's such a popular toy though

Do enjoy these, fairly sturdy, until a dog rips them apart, but fairly pricey for a what it is I feel. Great on the beach, and do enjoy hearing that whistling sound! The tail makes it fly like a shuttlecock in badminton, so it always faces the right way.Whilst we were throwing it on the beach, the whistle attracts every dog nearby, and ended up being a mad chase to get the ball first! 1-0 to the dogs, and I'll be buying another!

Very well made but I would say only use on grass as I'm guessing it would soon start to split after a few impacts on hard surfaces.Great fun to throw about with the kids but do be warned it is a little solid so small ones should stay clear!The howl it makes as you throw it is more of a whistle as my boy said "it sounds like a bird".Also beware dogs love the sound... would not last long as a dog toy tho!!!

Bought for the beach, but it works for parks and even a decent back yard. Throwing is really accurate - even I can get it on target! Played with 8year olds and they loved it so much they have kept it - we'll be buying again. Ours was a different colour - but not relevant. Easier to catch than just a football too and good size for little hands. The howl is not too loud either, so wasn't annoying at all.

Wow! What fun from such a simple little toy.It flies so incredibly well and the whistle it makes just adds to the enjoyment.It's well made and seems very robust as despite quite a view heavy impacts with tarmac it doesn't have a scratch on it.My 7 year old can through this fairly well and even my wife can too and she can't through a normal ball!Get one - More fun that it should ever be!
