The Neewer NW-800 Microphone comes complete with a spider shock-mount (with a ⅝" to ⅜" adaptor), a 2.5m XLR3 cable (terminating in a 2.5mm jack plug) and a foam wind-shield. The mic is solidly made from metal and although unexceptional it feels like it could last given a little care. The gold mesh grille looks the part but mine arrived with a slight dent on the top which is a minor annoyance - doesn’t affect the audio of course. Just to be clear, because the way it’s shown in the photo’s might be misleading, it’s a side-address microphone and not a front-address mic and so is designed to be used perpendicular to the person talking.You can use it the other way of course but you’re likely to pick up the sound of them turning the pages of their script more clearly than the sound of their voice.It’s also a line mic and needs some power to be delivered along that cable to get it going. The cable is a slightly strange choice to include here because it implies that you can plug the mic straight into your computer and it’ll work - but mostly it’ll not work, because there just won’t be enough juice. A small audio interface or mixer will fix that but you’ll likely need to buy another XLR cable too as the bundled one could connect from the mixer to your PC and you’ll need another between mixer and mic, so budget for both. With those things in place the sound it produces isn’t bad at all, especially considering the price, and it has a clear crisp treble sound and a reasonable bass - it seemed a bit bass-light to me but that might be because of the way I set things up and your mileage may vary. I did detect a slight hiss in the background but it was bearable and generally this mic seems well-shielded and I haven’t noticed any extraneous sounds, even from nearby mobile phones or routers. It’s also relatively pop-resistant, even without the foam wind-shield, and unless you have particularly aggressive ejectives (you poor thing!) it’s possible to get away without having to use a pop filter most of the time.The thing I have noticed is that it has a real old-school smell - I know that’s an odd thing to mention but I’m old enough to remember when most audio equipment had this same characteristic scent of hot solder, but I expect it will fade (along with my memories) after time. In use it’s a perfectly decent, though unremarkable, microphone and for simple vocal work, like adding narration to your home videos, it’s perfectly good. You do have to bear in mind it needs a powered connection and for some people a USB mic might be a simpler choice because it will connect directly to a computer with no extra devices necessary - however if you like things a bit retro then it’s a great value microphone.Disclosure: item was received free for independent review

I bought this and a RODE M3 at the same time as I wanted to mics but could afford two expensive ones. I think is mic probably quite good for its price. Of-course the rode is much better but its over double the price. This mic does have a slight background hiss compared to the rode which is crisp and clean. But again, look at the price difference.I have concern that when you plug this mic to your audio interface, the case (blue part) becomes live and very sensitive. You cant touch it, if you do then sound distorts. Therefore you have to use it with the holder provided (the holder is a great little product). Does anyone know if this is normal? I assume these cheaper mics suffer in this way?

The Mic looked great for the price, however once initially plugged in it sounded terrible. My desktop pc has two Mic inputs, both 3.5mm jacks. The front jack next to a headphone socket sounded awful with bad hiss and poor quality/low gain. Plugging into the rear socket and direct into the sound card things were great, although some tweaking on the gain and properties was needed. The performance for the price is almost laughable, I didn't think it possible to get a Mic that good for £12. Recommended !!!!!

The microphone itself is brilliant, however you'll soon find that just having the microphone isn't enough.Get the arm stand and a preamp/the phantom 48v and this will work like a dream, and you can find this bundle as another seperate product on amazon. Even if you're low on cash, save up a tiny bit more for the bundle and TRUST ME, it is worth way more than just buying the microphone itself.

I bought this to replace my $45 microphone and it's better. It comes with the mic, a cable, a shock mount. The shockmount has a VERY firm hold on the mic, so you don't need to worry about it slipping on a boom arm or anything. The audio quality is very good although lacking a little bass. I could see this microphone being used for people on a budget wanting to do a podcast.

I watched a YouTube video review regarding this microphone and was pleasantly surprised at how crisp and clear it sounded. At this price point, I can't really complain as it does the job effectively. Mostly use this for podcasting and gaming communication. Definitely worth checking out if you need an extremely cost effective budget micropjone.

Easy to install and lightweight, it produces great sound. It's lovely to have such a reasonably priced product that works so well. My twin girls love it. They have great fun singing into the microphones or as my husband calls it… shouting ;-)

Mic was decent enough but it needs to be plugged directly into the sound card on the PC.N.b. - I initially rated this 3 stars because the stand was poor however, the stand was a separate but so, I have changed it to represent the mic only.

Not professional but definitely very good for the money, aesthetically it looks very good and it performs way above its price, build quality is also very good and it looks, feels and performs like a much more expensive mic.

Pulled the trigger on this one almost immediately, looks fantastic and its got plenty of good reviews, very happy I did! Build quality is great and it looks like a million bucks, recommended!

This is a real clear price/performance winner by far. Don’t be put off by the low price tag. The Neewer NW 800 is first class. I’m no singer, but for podcasts and webchats, it’s awesome!
