-- Gameplay --For the initiated, the principle of this game is to enter underground and illegal street races to win money. Use the money to buy performance and visual upgrades to your car. The visual upgrades make no difference whatsoever to your car (regardless of what some of the people on the forums think) but it is the visuals that make the game *fun*. Sticking some 20" rims to pimp your ride is excellent fun, I found myself spending ages choosing the right custom bits for my car.The difference between this game and the previous NFSU game is that this time round, the races have to be driven to rather than selected from a static menu. This adds extra immersion but sometimes can be a bit of a pain having to drive to the other side of the city to take a race. One addition that the EA bods have not managed to do yet is the fuzz. The Bayview city where you race must not have a night shift on their force as there is no sign or mention of the cops. It would be fun to be racing and also having police cars in the fray too (a bit like Vice City races then). Perhaps it was a conscious design decision. The racing itself is very cool. The opponents can be fairly tricky on hard mode and you get a sense of achievement for completing races.-- Multiplayer --I am not sure if this has been patched but I really struggled with the multiplayer. The game browser only shows one game type at a time and only those games that are ready to start, you have to select each type of game in turn to see what races are available. Also for 7 out of 10 race attempts I got connection errors. When I finally did get into a race, the opponent cars would jump around and flicker making the experience not very rewarding. Plus I was annoyed that I won a few races and the stat tracker said I had not even raced any at all. The game does support LAN play which might by better.-- Graphics --With the full details switched on everything is beautiful. The cars look amazing and all include environmental reflections making them look even more appealing in the neon glow of the late night city. All of the cars are true to form and actually look pretty cool when modded up - it is nice to be able to do this virtually as I would never do this in real life!-- Sound --The sound effects are amazing, the engine notes are different for each car and the car mods make a difference. For example, adding the turbo to the Ford Focus causes a slight whistling sound to appear. The sounds are also environmental; go under a bridge and the engine sound changes to echo off the walls like when you go through a tunnel for real. This might be an EAX feature only though. Additionally to the engine sounds we get tyre squeal and the music.Let me say something about the music: The sequel soundtrack is nowhere near as good as the first game's by a long way. The excellent Snoop Dogg cover of Riders on the Storm is 10/10 but most of the other tracks are fairly forgettable. Remember cruising through the streets in the original game with Rob Zombie's Two Lane Black Top on in the background? None of the tracks in this game seem to inspire the same memories. NFSU2's soundtrack is not bad, it is just not as great as the original's.-- System --I played it on a Radeon 9700 Pro at 1024x768 resolution with an Athlon 2400+ processor max detail. The games mostly played at a decent framerate, though Street X races caused minor slowdowns for some reason. Not enough to make you want to reduce the settings.-- Overall --Great game, let down slightly by the multiplayer but not enough to warrant losing a star.Note: If you get the problem with it getting stuck on the loading screen, it is being caused by the NoCD patch. You need to either keep the CD in the drive or use daemontools/Alcohol 120 instead.

The original "Need for Speed Underground" was massive. The game brought about a total breath of fresh air in the racing genre and it sold by the millions. With an extensive career mode, stunning visuals, a banging soundtrack and all the fun of customising your ride, it's no wonder. Fans will be pleased to know that "Underground 2" repeats much of that magic from the original and also injects some great new features. One of the biggest new features in the sequel is the "Explore Mode". In this mode of play, you can explore a full living breathing city. Although it can get repetitive, this a nice addition to the game overall and adds to the experience. The career mode is now bigger than before and more in-depth.You'll experience what any pro-racer does - intensive rivalry, big money sponsorship deals and, of course, incredible cars. Which brings me on to my next point - the cars! This is what the game is all about and it doesn't dissapoint in this area. Aswell as looking stunning, the cars handle like a dream and are very realistic in many ways. It's always great to customise your car and have your own special dream machine. I just also want to touch on the game's Minimum Specs. Frankly, they are a joke. If you ran the game on the Min. Specs it would be totally unplayable. The game looks stunning, the courses are big and everything is very detailed. This means a powerful machine is needed to enjoy the game. I've got the game running very well on my set-up, but I had to knock down many of the visual settings to avoid poor frame rates. My system is as follows; Intel 2.8ghz Processor with 512mb RAM. I have a Radeon 9600 Pro with 256mb Video Memory. That is double some of the requirements and triple others. Still, the game would run slowly if I turned all the visuals up to the max. This is the kind of system you need to be looking at in order to enjoy the film. If you're below this, you might want to think twice before getting the game. But all the technical stuff aside, this is a very entertaining racer. The career mode has enough depth to hold your attention, and when you've done that [Which isn't easy, by the way!] there is a really fun Online Multiplayer mode to explore as well as LAN capability. The visuals are stunning. The soundtrack is also wicked and it really adds sop much style to the game without losing depth. Overall, this is another great title from EA Games and, indeed, thier Need for Speed series. If you like racers, then you will love this. Take it for a spin!

When I first played NFSU1, I was somewhat underwhelmed. Then a few months later, I gave it another chance and ended up loving it - the only problem was the linear gameplay, although thats nothing particularly unusual for a racer like this. The other game I loved at the time was GTA Vice City, in my opinion the best of the GTA games. However, at times the driving element of GTA could be much better.NFSU2 takes, in my opinion, the best bits of both games and does an excellent job of combining them. What you get is the (to a point) freedom of GTA, with the stunning races of NFSU1. I've heard a lot of criticism about this game, but the bottom line is that it is incredibly good fun to play. You'll want to turn up the difficulty level to get the most out of it,because the lower difficulty levels are no challenge at all. You'll also want to get your hands on a good analogue controlled to help manoevre your way around those tight hilly bends. Then turn down the light, turn up the speakers, take the phone off the hook, and you're away...I like the idea of having a garage full of different cars, although I find it easier to concentrate on developing just two - one very fast car for drag, another with better handling for just about everything else. But the prospect of pimping up a Hummer is just too tempting and I end up taking it for a spin round the streets of Bayview. This is a game that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. Its all about the racing. Don't worry about the superficial story and just enjoy cruising the streets in your customised dream machine looking for racing and, occasionally, destruction. Marvel at the wonderful lighting effects, as tail-lights blur across the screen.Don't take it too seriously and you're in for a hell of a ride!

This game is more than 10 years old and hardly anyone plays it out, but it is one of the greatest games ever so I had to write this review. It deserves more than 5/5.What makes this game so good, is that all aspects of the game have been well designed and combined so that the game as a whole has no weaknesses. The graphics, the storyline, car customisation and LAN multplayer are all brilliant in their own way. This is the all round package that will satisfy all racing game fans. When talking about the graphics we have to consider the release date of the game, and for its age the graphics were great. There is software available online that allows you to run the game in full HD to make the grahics more enjoyable on the hardware that is avilable today. One of my favourite parts of the game is the multiplayer, yes there is a possibility to play this game with your friends, using other software unfortunately. The online game modes are outstanding, there is no delay in the connection, no lag, it is as good, and even better than the online in many modern games. In terms of gameplay, you have to spend atleast a few days of short gaming sessions to complete the game, but it is a bit too easy win races as the computer players are not difficult to beat. The introduction of an open map was really something back in the day, and you can spend a bit of time investigating the map and all the secrets it holds. The best aspect of the game for me is the costumisation, back in the day, this really made this game interesting as you could spend hours finding the perfect bodykit and sticker combination. I also loved the dyno tuning mode as you could increase the acceleration ar decrease the grip of the tyres for any type of race.Overall, one of the best games ever.

EA have done it again it was the x-mas no.1 game in 2003 for NFSU1 and now it's the 2004 game of the year for NFSU2. It has even more customisations that last time with even more cars and more tracks you get the whole city to cruse around in instead of looking at a boring options screen. This time round it's seems that the cars respond a lot better and are to me more realistic in performance wise. I mean they seem to go at the speed you really think they would do for some reason the cars in NFSU1 went or seem to be over the top in performance for me. The new features include hydraulics so your car can bounce to its hearts content but only below 30mph while driving through the city. You can install trunk layouts and design what goes in it from NOS tanks to audio systems for show-off even put neon's in it. You can install new doors which open outwards or upwards put neon's in your engine along with opening hoods, add different coloured NOS smoke to show-off while standing still. New races include downhill Drift, Longer Drags, Street X this new style means you race with 3 other cars on screen for 1st place. Drifting races again include on screen opponents and now all the shops are separate for that easy navigation. Isn't there anything else I haven't mentioned that they haven't added well yes the kitchen sink but that would be pointless in a Mitsubishi 3000GT wouldn't it.

Even though this game has been out for a long time this is one of the best Need For Speed games out!Even though the story may not be interesting but the features is just fantastic! The latest Need for Speeds cannot match the amusement you get when doing a race, especially the drift races! its just too much for words! Graphics may not be great compared to the latest games but for its time this has got to be absolutely fantastic! Graphics are pretty decent enough to see what is happening. Car handling is absolutely cartoony and in some what way realistic. With the free roam you can go around the map with absolutely no race but still have fun, cause you make the rules on the street!A good thing is that any Tom Dick and Harry can do this! so if your a newbie then you will be able to get a hang of this as any other player would!

I bought this game because I loved it on ps2, since then everything I own has been updated so I thought why not? A very cheap game which works amazingly on my PC, since you need very low running specs to play this game. My graphics card isn't very decent yet I still easily get about 60 fps on this game with the highest settings! I have a 2.2ghz processor w/ 4gb of ram which is pretty much the average specs for PC's these days. My brothers PC runs this game fine yet his PC only has 1gb of ram and a 1.7ghz processor. As a bonus it was very cheap, and despite the bad weather fast delivery!

I bought this only recently having played the first game to death on a PS2 a few years ago. I thought I would try out the sequel and surely enough its really good fun. Lots of scope to mod the car of your choice then thrash it around an open-play environment. But be warned this game will steal your time! I have lost hours without even noticing sat in my home office playing NFS Underground2. I use the XBox wireless controller and it works really well, so maybe consider getting one if you are going to buy this game.

I just received this game and it is AMAZING!!! It brings back all the childhood memories. And i'm playing on my laptop and it runs like a breeze. No lag or bugs whatsoever. 10/10.

The game is a racing based classic, where you can mod up your ride and race other drivers.if your looking to get this, it's worth the money for brand new.
