This is one hell of a racing game. I'm totally hooked. The graphics are slick, the racing is brilliant, the customisation and tuning add a very real element to the game.I read other reviews for this game and I have to say I cannot understand why some people find the very real aspect of this game a bad thing! OK there are no more street races, but the tracks you get to run on are really challenging, nearly every one has a corner or two that has you tuning and retuning the car to get around it quick without having to sacrifice the straight line speed. That is RACING. The only oversight I can see in this is that you cannot set the spoiler angle anywhere other than the garage, once in a race day you'll have to leave, to go reset you spoiler angle in your garage then play it again, but that's a small gripe. There's no cops is another gripe, personally I don't care with a racer this good, I owned the very NFS1 & NFS2 where the second edition ditched the cops, that was not liked. The problem back then was that the game couldn't really carry itself without them, you selected a car and drove it around a track, then you did it again and again, there was no real competition at all. That's seriously fixed in Pro Street, this game does NOT need cops. It's not like I don't suffer for playing this, my processor is below minimum spec, I own an AMD 64 Athlon @ 2.2Ghz, they recommended level is 2.8Ghz (and a multicore processor wouldn't hurt). So in between races during loading and saving I can end up waiting literally minutes to get where I'm going, that's frustrating and I have to restart the system sometimes to clear the choke. However I'm not going drop the maxed out levels down a bit, I will wait because every aspect of this game is amazing. The great thing is that the races run at full speed with almost the full frame rate and don't seem to suffer from the slow down, so it's a small price to pay.So if you're thinking of buying this game, check to see that you've got the required spec or that you have the patience of a saint, because you'll need it if you don't have the hardware. The car doesn't handle like previous editions of NFS, you'll get a nasty surprise (I know I did), until you get the hang of things, but the hurdle is not a great one. You CANNOT drive these cars properly without a Force Feedback Steering Wheel, it's the only way to really FEEL what the car is doing, so invest in one - You won't regret it. Game Controllers and Keyboards just don't cut it, not with this game - Sorry Game Console fans, (Can you buy something similar?) Lastly you will have to TUNE the car to make it run properly around a race track, I have two sublime Grip Racers - a Nissan 240SX & 350Z. They didn't start out with the handling credentials they have now, with the exception of one or two corners in the entire Battle Machine series, these cars a blindingly fast and a nailed to the road surface. Maybe I'll share the blueprint, but I don't think I'm quite finished tuning it yet. This game is not like Most Wanted or Carbon, it's more like a race simulator than the arcade racer that the other two were. You can wreck you car if you crash in this, that's pretty realistic. All told, with the huge customisation options, the tuning options, the Practise laps where you can tune the car on the fly to maximise it's potential. To the mind boggling array or race types - Grip, Grip Class, Grip Time Attack, Grip Sector Shootout, Quarter & Half Mile Drag. Drift, Dual Drift. Speed King - You won't be bored. The Visual Customisations are all free and you immediately have access to all of it, so now you can make a really sick looking machine from the word go. Even in the Bodywork you get a couple of freebies at the start to help sculpt the car. The Cartoon graphics of Carbon are gone and in my opinion are even better than those in Most Wanted. This game has a story to follow that seems much bigger than Carbon too and that's a good thing. The computer opponents could be better, by that I mean make you work for your win, once you get ahead you can simply leave them miles behind, which makes the track records a bit too easy to break. On a half mile drag race I'm posting 185mph in a Cobalt SS, the next nearest guy is only doing 104mph they should be much faster - That's Sunday Driving right there. Perhaps if they do Pro Street 2 (Pleeeeeeaaaaassssseeee do it - EA) they might let the users set the difficulty the opponents can provide, more so than in this game. If you're a Motor Racing fan, this is the game for you, if you expect this game to be like previous version of NFS then you might want to give this a miss.10/10 EA - This is one totally slick racing game (Better than Forza 2 easily).

The creators of the new 'Need for Speed: Pro Street' must of had games like Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport in mind when developing this year's probable Christmas No 1 game, as the style and gameplay is much more realistic and serious than previous years' Undergrounds, Most Wanted and Carbon games.Rather than going for the own the city street races in Career Mode like in the previous games, this time it has a series of race days where you have to compete and finish various races such as Grip races, 1/4 and 1/2 mile Drag races, Drift challendes and Time Trials to procede to the next day. Each are fairly challenging in their own way and require practice on each to gets the skills to be able to come first in the Career Mode.In multiplayer and practice modes you can create your own race days where you can choose which types of races, cars and tracks are used and then take on your friends via splitscreen or system link. There's tonnes of top cars and plenty of tracks to keep you interested. The controls take a while to get used to with either up on the right stick or R2 to accelerate and down on the right stick or L2 to brake, as opposed to the default X and Square controls on the previous games when on the PS2. As Circle is used for the Nitrous burst, it can get a little fiddily when using the right stick as the accelerate/brake controls, however this is the more user-friendly control out of the two when it comes to cornering and drifting. It's also a shame that the Six Axis tilt sensor wasn't used at all.The graphics are pretty good, especially through HDMI, but are no where near as slick or smooth as some of the other racing games on the PS3, such as Ridge Racer 7, GTHD or Motorstorm. The effects and backgrounds do look very nice, but the cars sometimes look a little blocky. The soundtrack isn;t great, but what do you expect from a NFS game?Overall, Pro Street is great fun with plenty of hours gameplay involved within the Career Mode and endless hours in the multiplayer modes. The controls aren't the best on the PS3 version but it doesn't stop it from being an excellent game that most racing game fans should enjoy. It's good to see that the NFS series has finally gotten rid of it's boy racer image (well, almost) and has gone for the more grown-up appearance, using events and legal races. Although I do miss the police pursuits that made Most Wanted such a good game. This is a decent enough game that should keep you busy until next year when Burnout Paradise and the next Gran Turismo game are due out.

So, I was dubious about this game as I wasn't sure about the entire concept of the game, I really enjoyed the original need for speed games with the old style of gameplay. I think I was right to be dubious, the difference in style is amazing, its just not the same playing this game. What with it being legal racing and on track instead of street it doesn't seem the same. The whole style of the game has been lost. The complicated upgrading of the cars is not something I look for in a racing game. I understand that this is probably interesting to the bigger car enthusiasts but this game really isn't about that and as I don't understand most of these concepts I don't like them in a game and I feltthat I lost out by not knowing how to set the cars up.The game does have good graphics which helps it along a bit and it does have reasonable gameplay overall but it doesn't feel like a need for speed game. If anything it just feels like a badly done version of Gran Turismo so to be honest I would probably just go and get that instead. It will have better gameplay and more realistic driving where Need For Speed feels like its lost in between arcade and simulation.I think EA need to work out where their going with this game before they bring out another one. If they did this they might be on to a winner again but for the time being they don't seem to know where their going which is a shame because this game could have been great where I believe for now it is just average.

Honestly, I am shocked. I have read all the negative reviews and now feel compelled to write my own, which is that of a racing pc game fan who LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES NFS Prostreet with great enthusiasm.Graphics -- cars and tracks -- are superb, colorful and varied, though all racing venues have a similar feel that goes with the pro street racing style. I even love the announcer who adds to the street racing atmosphere and entertaining value of the game, which is truly unique and exceptional to be sure, from my point of view. Game play so far has been smooth, satisfactory and intuitive with rare disruptions ("program stopped responding" or hard freeze)that are probably less game-related than Vista- or video driver-related.All in all, I rate this game very highly, on par with other marvels like Test Drive Unlimited and Dirt. If you like racing games, this one is a must with its different racing styles that I find immensely enjoyable. But beware, as for the two other game titles just mentioned and praised, this one needs a powerful rig to run beautifully and effectively at high settings.Get it and please don't blame me if you become addicted and forget to go to work. All the best!

It's true (as stated by some excentric reviewers) that this game doesnt follow the same style as its predecessors. No there aren't any police chaces nor is there a free roam option on the city streets. If they wanted to buy a game expecting that then they should have bought another copy of 'Carbon'. This is a new game and assuming you know what you are getting is foolish. The older games did have a certain charm but the series is called 'Need for Speed' not 'Hurry up and get away from the police'!This game has plenty of speed. The story has a way of making you feel it is a realistic 'next step' for a street racing offender. The ability to tune and style the car makes for a much better 'Garage'experience. In the previous games you could just slap a body kit on your ride and lower the suspension to make it look better. Doing that on this game will have effects like the aero dynamics and handling of the car. It isn't all about looks. This appeals to me personally as my hobby is to modify high performance cars.In my opinion any fan of the series, like myself, will not be dissapointed in this title. Dont let the negative reviews hold you back.

Now this game is behind Need For Speed Most Wanted for me as that was more of a free roam game and brilliant the way the cops were involved. This game is just all about picking a race and doing it to get a record and money which you need to upgrade your cars performance otherwise you arent going to be moving to different zones. This game is more based on actual track races on proper tracks and not the main street of a major city where other public cars not as good as you are based which get in the way but i kinda miss those. The only thing really wrong with this game is the fact that the cars are called blueprints! WTF! i didnt get it at the start but now i get it and i find oit really good.but still blueprint? Still though a great game but not amazing!Ethan

i risked buying this game after some of the negative feedback posted and am glad i did.i didnt have high hopes but i can tell you now, wow this game just totaly blew me away the cars are good the graphics are amazing and the cars handle like the real thing,(not some arcade piece of junk). And if you have any nous about you the controls are easily mastered and in my oppinion give the game a whole new demention.if you are a kid who is full of hormones and has nothing to do with them and you still belive you can travel at 100milles an hour into a hairpin and stay on the road you will most probally hate this game. if you are some one who genuinly enjoys driving and like fast cars (note not the magazine)then get this game it will blow your mind, i promise

Hubby bought a PS3 a few weeks ago along with the usual warfare games which being female are not for me. Got the free trial download for Prostreet Need for Speed and I decided to have a go and enjoyed it so much we bought the game. Now I am completely hooked. I just love the challenges, trying to win the races, trying not to damage the car. I really feel my adrenalin going and my heart racing. We also bough Gran Turismo but I cannot get into that yet and find it quite boring.I need my life back though as I cannot tear myself away from the PS3 and Need for Speed.Next thing is a wheel as the PS3 controls are quite difficult. Problem with a wheel though is you need a stand?

This is a lot different to Most Wanted and Carbon, so rent it for a couple of nights. I did as I was unsure about the dramatic changes, but I think EA pulled it off. There is no free roam or police in this. But the cars and tracks do look really good. But the cars now show damage. On the demo, I totaled my car on the side of a Speed race and was barrel rolling down the track. In the smoke to AI cars behind me braked and swerved to avoid my wreckage, before I came to a rest on the side.Just try before you buy. If you don't like this then have a look at Burnout Paradise

I too am an avid NFS fan. EA has changed the genere with this game which is now aimed to be tournement orientated towards multiplayer "Race days...!!" events and definately more realistic in game play, both visually breath taking graphics and sound effects. Includes a new feature if your card involved in any accidents or crash this now adds a new concept and may hinder your abilities to win a race. Don't buy this game if you think its based very much like past releases. You will not get cops chasing you.....

I Enjoy this game very muchGraphics are absolutly superbThe Driving i enjoy and i think is well suited to the gameand in reply to the person who said "wheres the streets?" the way this is explained is that its PROFESSIONAL racing using cars more suited to STREET racing, therefore the races have to be held on closed courses in order for it to be deemed legal+ you get to race on some of the best courses in the world "willow springs and mondello park" for example

Lucky me, I got this game for Christmas.Previously I had been more into Burnout games before getting the PS3, but then got NFS Carbon and now Pro Street and I have to say it is excellent. The controls are easy to get used to, and fairly straightforward. The cars, and performance are much more realstic than on previous NFS games. All in all a great Christmas present.

27.12.2007

I got a new laptop for christmas and thought i'd try it our for gaming, so I bought a copy NFS prostreet yesterday and I love it! I don't understand why all the negative it's good fun and is differnat to most wanted the controls are easy and the graphics are good.

ok driving game, but it gets a bit boring to drive around tracks all the time. would have been cooler if there were some sort of open world to it. a "pro-street" car (in real life) is after all a road-legal car, not just a track car.

30.11.2008

This game is so realistic and fun. A pleasure to play, with excellent commentary. Buy this game at a bargain price too!!! Ignore the poor reviews, this one is a winner with imaginative street racing!.
