My wife and I purchased this item for our sons first birthday with the intention of buying additional sections of track in order to build large tracks around the house or garden (during the summer months) for him to ride around on. Even at that age however, the engine moved so slowly that he immediately got bored of waiting for the movement and proceeded to get off the engine and push it around the track in order to speed things up a little. Most importantly however, due to a major design error with this product, the turning circle of the train is larger than the track, meaning that it is unable to navigate unaided around the corner sections,and two of these corner sections joined together (as pictured on some of the extra track section boxes) is simply impossible to navigate and subsequently results in complete stoppage of the train. Another simple (but obvious and avoidable design error) is that the accompanying trailer hook mounting is situated too low, subsequently resulting in the front two trailer wheels being completely independent from the track. In saying all of the above however, even after a year, our son still loves to sit on the engine, stand and dance to the controller tunes and really enjoys getting the tracks sections out, even if they are only used to push the train along them. It should also be noted that the battery on this item is simply outstanding! Although the toy may not be played with on a daily basis, it was last charged on our sons birthday (in January) and is still (nearly in December) going strong. As for educational uses, although probably unintended by the obviously lazy and/or incompetent designers of this product, we are however finding the red, blue and green colour sections of track useful in aiding simple colour recognition. In summary, the product has been extremely badly designed, is slow to move and even when it does, will not navigate the corner sections. Despite these `adult' faults, it has still provided many hours of enjoyment, even if it has only been nothing more than a push along train with added sound effects!

Pros:- Nice colours- Seems sturdy- Easy to put together- Very slow which is safe as my daughter likes gets on and off it while it is moving- Battery life is good. Easily lasts over a week between charges as my daughter plays with it for about 5 minutes at a time- possibility to use 2 different track configurations. One wide and one small circularCons- no indication of battery level as it is being used. Also instructions say not to charge more than 12 hours but it would be better to have an indication the battery is charged- terribly noisy, both the train and the music buttons on it- no volume adjustment on the buttons- not possible for the baby to play with the buttons without the train being switched on.Very easy to flick the switch to set it moving.This is not too much of an issue however as the train is extremely slow so relatively safe. It took my 15 month old about a week to master how it works but she really liked the buttons initially and it would have been nice to have the sounds on without the risk of being able to set the train moving.I've had no issues with the train working on my carpet

Bought this for my 10 month old son. He absolutely loves it and it is very cool. My living room isn't really big enough so I instead ran the track through the house which is probably better as train barely copes with corners so putting in the odd corner rather than using more than one corner piece consecutively is definitely advisable and will avoid disappointment. Because of the corner issue it looses one star. Train operates without track aswell and the track itself is easy to pack away. FYI I bought a returned one for a cheaper price and very happy with the item.

I was worried about purchasing this after reading other reviews about it going too slow and getting stuck on the corners of the track.I have just purchased this for christmas for my 16 month old son and I can honestly say its suitable for this age group as you don't want anything going too fast anyway. He loves this. As for train getting stuck on corners I have not experienced this.I am very pleased with this product, only downside is it's not a long term toy you will only get a use of it up to the age of 3 years.

Really don’t understands these bad reviews I just took a chance as looked amazing and i honestly can’t fault it! Charges really quick and tracks really easy together and track moves fine along even with trailer my 2 year old drives with my baby in the trailer! It doesn’t move really fast but still moves good, it’s for ages 1-3 so perfect speed for that age so if they fall they don’t hurt them selves also what do you expect for a toy battery train. Amazing buy for my babies !!

i bought this for my son for his 1st birthday, and he loved it! It kept all the kids at his party entertained, seems daunting to how big it is but i find it quite easy to store in fact its usually set up in his room and as i am someone that cant stand mess or clutter it really doesn't bother me, which is a huge plus in my eyes! Also I haven't had to charge it much.

Yes its is slow and the track doesn't quite piece together fluidly but my two and a half year old loves riding around the house on it (it does have to run on the tracks) and filling up the trailer with dolls and teddy bears. The battery life is exceptional as was the price I paid. I would highly recommend it for any train mad toddler.

This is bigger than you imagine and great for toddlers although its safe, v. slow speed can be frustrating for toddlers who want it to go faster. Our Grandson prefers to push it round the track! Obviously the slow speed does make it very safe for little ones. It is solid, well-made and the track layout is very big. Love it!

Omg!!! I love this the train is absolutely amazing, I smiled more when this arrived than when I first held my baby. .. My daughter loves it and I do too.. It is just a shame they dont do adult size as it looks great fun lol.... Its pretty big but can change track size which is also great.... Thankyou once again Argos..

Fantastic even though my son is a little scared of it at the moment, hes only 12 months so gonna try him on it again in a couple of months. Can't wait to get it out on the lawn in the summer.The track is a little big but can be made smaller and works ok on carpet too.Love the theme tune and the choo choo lots of fun.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my two year old Granddaughter and she absolutely loves it. With it's large track, the ability to move it forward and backwards, the cheeky faced Thomas with push button sound effects is a massive hit for my Granddaughter especially as Teddy can ride in the carriage behind too!

Very good fun little boy loves it only down fall is where the on off lever is situated he catches it with his leg which then stops the train. Also just can't see how the 16 track variation would work there was no instructions regarding this. But overall really happy parents and one very happy little boy.

Great item which my grandson loves very much. At 2 1/2 years he's at the older end for this item but I'm sure it'll last him for a little longer than the recommended age as he's a light weight. I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend to others - a fair bit cheaper than other suppliers too.

Bought it for my sisters twins who are 15 months of age. They love it and while some people have said that it's too slow, it hasn't stopped them from enjoying it. Would be good if there were other additional accessories to buy with this such as fake train station, signal etc....

The train is really great fun for small kids. It is slow indeed but if it was faster, I wouldn't feel it is safe enough for a year old. Also, really easy to assemble and the battery is really lasting. One of my best buys as far as toys are concerned for the kids.
