Murdered: Soul Suspect puts you in to the shoes of Ronan O'Connor, a convict turned detective who dies at the very beginning but can't 'move on' until he figures out what unfinished business he has and how to go about finishing it, which in this case turns out to be his murder, committed by the dreaded 'bell killer', a serial killer who has been terrorising the local population in Salem, Massachusetts. Yes, that's the very same Salem infamous for the witch trials. Along the way you're going to comb through various areas in order to figure out who is behind all the carnage and finally be able to put your soul to rest so you can leave this purgatory (or 'dusk' as they call it) and join your beloved wife.So far,so cliché. Luckily then the story itself is actually pretty good. Ronan himself has a good fleshed out past and was sympathetic enough for me to care about what is going on, and equally the side characters were all interesting enough to keep my attention. The story itself is definitely the heart of the game and clearly has had the most effort put it in to it and it works well as a result, with the mystery elements working well and keeping you guessing throughout. The voice acting is well done too and even random people that you see on the road have relevant conversations that makes the world feel lived in. Visually it generally looks nice, especially the character models, and it does a good job of making the game feel creepy and making me feel vulnerable, like when ghosts flicker in the distance as disappear as you get close to them, even though you're not under risk of any harm; the only exception is that the environment buildings can look very same-y. The music, although somewhat limited, is also good and does the job well enough to keep the mood of the game.Generally you move around different areas and conduct different investigations to piece together what is going on, and then piece together the most relevant clues to move the story forward. There is something satisfying about putting the clues together correctly the first time around, but at the same time there aren't really any ways to fail them, and how well you do only affects the badge rating you get per investigation. You can even finish the investigation early with only a few clues, so long as they're the right ones. This can be things like finding a relevant object to the investigation or using your ghostly abilities to possess people in order to read their minds, look at what they're reading/seeing, or even using another piece of evidence to jog their memory so that they think about an event and give you more clues relevant to the investigation. You can even possess cats to help you get through to hard-to-reach areas, and make them meow on command! Overall this works quite well and does a good job of making you feel like a detective as you work your way through the story.Along the way you can also run in to lost souls who don't know why they're stuck in Dusk either, and conduct mini-investigations to figure out what happened to them in order to help them move on. These work in a similar way to the bigger investigations but are generally concentrated in the immediate surroundings of where the deceased person's ghost is. They're also quite fun to do and it help makes the world feel that little bit more alive, if you'll pardon the pun.The game also has plenty of collectibles, and they also give you backstory to the characters and the city. These are quite good at helping build the world and give you a sense of what the place is like, but there are also something like 175 things to collect, and for a game which isn't that long it often felt like there were far too many things just littered all over the place. I remember one point especially where I'd walked up a set of stairs only to be greeted by 4 or 5 bright green lights (that's an indicator that something can be picked up) in one tiny room, and that's just silly. The combat on the other hand is just awful. For what is supposed to be a mystery adventure type game you'll occasionally be greeted by demons who can kill you if they spot you and need to be dispatched by sneaking up behind them. Not only does this not fit the tone of the game, but the actual way it works is very odd - you can eliminate them by sneaking up behind them and pressing a two button prompt that comes up, which is very easy, but if you happen to get caught in their line of sight then there's a sudden difficulty spike where you need to hide for a few minutes before they get bored and go back to where they were before, which is a lot more tedious. There could've been a few more features included too. For instance, there isn't a map. This isn't a problem so long as the main story is involved as they still mark out where you need to go on the screen, but if you're looking around the city or doing any of the side content then it's very easy to run in circles and not be able to find what you're looking for. At one point I wanted to return to the church level to pick up some collectible items but it took far longer than it should have to know where I needed to go, which is awfully boring. The checkpoint system could've done with more work too as the times that it saves are erratic and sometimes I'd stopped playing the game only to come back the next day and find that the game had failed to save the latest bit of progress. There are no manual saves either so you can't get around it by saving the game yourself. It's also important to note that there are plenty of glitches and performance issues. There is frequent stuttering when you're playing the game with the frame rate dipping, and I'd noticed that even as someone who isn't particularly sensitive to that sort of thing. Similarly the game has a lot of glitches, like pedestrians walking through walls, and if you happen to be possessing one as they do this then you're going to be stuck in their body and need to load the last checkpoint in order to continue, which can be very irritating. As a whole Murdered: Soul Suspect could've been a lot better and seems to have been rushed in certain aspects, but it's still an enjoyable game. If you like detective mystery type stories then consider buying it.

This is one i was looking forward to no guns blades, cars no kill streaks, not fun?Well tbh this has amazing potential, very clever ideas but.. It is not exceuted in the best way.. The graphics seems ok, dark overcast ghost world you see in the movies etc. The story is a nicely crafted detective solve the crime plot, with the exception that your solving your own murder, wow seems strange but its a great idea.. and fair play to the company to try a different idea too!Im only on level 3/chapter 3 - Ive notced that allot of this title is spent collecting things - if your happy to scroll every nook and crany to get those goodies for the "ping" of an achiemevent you will love this - The game throwsachievments at you like there is no tomorrow also...The idea of walking through walls with unlimited resources sounds great, however most places are locked! yes even to a ghost - dam Sam & Dean winchesters salt on windows and doors ha! you can access places via opened doors or windows - or even posess a nice helpful cat to get you to places, again nice idea but clunky way moves and guides. The mortals seem to clip thorugh allot of the real world too (guess they are ready for the after life all too soon) The bottle neck alley ways seem to force our hero down paths, as certain walls with white glows or items stop him crossing them. Pretty much most map is white ghosted then almost if you cant travel anywhere. So being a specral visitor you can't die then? Nope wrong there are things that go bump bump in the night for even ghosts minding their own business. Think Patricks Ghost style enemies and you won't be far off.. these have to be "attacked" from behind (not easy sometimes)It sems they took ideas from most ghost movies etc, even down to a helpful person who's the only one who can hear or see you.. Never saw that coming! The idea of exploring a location once inside runs better move through walls and its quite a cool idea, then you meet the ghosts that need help "crossing over" this was my favioute part all items need to be found to piece together why,who and can they move on. This idea could have been so great getting you to go all over to get info - however most (i have encountered) seem all info is close by a slight disapointment..Why a 4 star simple its fun, clever, a different concept just what i needed after Titanfall, Watchdogs etc. I imaging that it would be cheap sooner than later definatly a bargain pick up, or if you like the ghost idea this is for you or even if you want a change from the norm.Good effort Square, part 2 I can see with an array of clever add ons, its good but not quite Ghost! - cue unchained melody..EDIT - Finished now Quite short, but really good story twists at the end etc, Could have done with more "powers" as that was quite fun..My biggest issue is after finishing the game to 100% with all collectables etc some glitched really annoying as once you go past the point of no return, you can't obtain them!I was a games tester and we didn't release titles if things glitched or was deemed to cause annoyance or in worst case big errors not being able to continue.. come on this is next gen pls sort this out!!Edit Edit :After logging off and starting a new game the achievements popped just FYI on the 1k points.

After seeing the demo walkthrough last year from the opening sequence, with the character just got shot and thrown outside a window then comes back has a ghost detective before crossing over, you played has Detective Ronan O'Connor, a cop who’s trying given a second chance in life from his past crimes record who pursuing a serial killer called bell killer. I was interested and excited to play this title being like a supernatural “L.A. Noire” using the evidence, piece together clues to solve your own murder by tracking down this serial killer while helping others ghost across over to the another side within this supernatural world. The game itself has surprising descent open world-ish within the local town of Salem,Massachusetts that has history strange supernatural activity that you explore around the town and help other ghosts find peace from doing side missions, the topics collections and history stories much like the same style of “Alan Wake” while doing the main campaign locations, that have different topics all together. The best thing about the game is the characters being very likeable especially our main character has you learn more about him from the flashbacks, diary entries from his past away wife that really give some best emotion in a video game for a while, along with list of supporting cast from police officers, local town ghosts, using your mind reading power to hear town’s people thoughts that help gain clues and are pretty funny to hear to a loud mouth teen that becomes your partner with helping track down this killer.I would say the story is very well done from start to finish giving the audience very deep interesting investigation angle and actually gives couple of twists here and there that builds up to satisfying ending that doesn’t sequel bait lucky. The game done by Square Enix is my favourite game developers from doing the new Hitman game and Sleeping Dogs, that manages to create a ghost game that actually has the player being a ghost with walking through walls, entering people bodies to hear their opinions to gain more evidence being that the game begs you to explore everything your shocked how most your being invested within the story and side missions of Salem. The most surprising feature is that fact your actually playing a ghost while tracking down a serial killer and the games doesn’t the player by weapons or acts of violence at all, unlike most games on the market right now, it’s purely a detective finding the truth behind the murders with some help from local town’s people. Amazing Square Enix!!!!Overall after being hugely disappointed by Watchdogs, I decided to pick up this game and got a very smart ghost story with some cool L.A. Noire type features with some actually emotion from the characters. Sadly the only bad point to made is once you finished the game there’s little reason to travel for second play through, which I would recommend trading for another game soon after or waiting lower price tag, however I strong suggest you “Murder Soul Suspect”.

I bought this game despite the somewhat negative reviews I heard from certain sources and I am glad that yet again I decided to ignore certain opinions. Admittedly this is not a classic due to some annoying gameplay bugs which detract from the excellent well executed (pardon the pun) story. What you do get with this is a solid murder mystery in the same vein as LA Noire but with a supernatural twist. You basically spend the duration of the game investigating and solving smaller cases as well as investigating and following clues to the main case you have to solve! There is also an action element to the game which involves a simplistic mechanism where you battle demons, which unfortunately is the games weakest aspect as it is poorly implemented and seems to be an afterthought as it is quite easy and will only cause issues when the game glitches. These glitches are where MSS loses its appeal as I encountered various issues with the QTE system when battling demons, the identifying of clues and selecting broke on one mission because I tried to exit early and then it would not let me select the clue which meant I had to start from the last checkpoint again and finally the look and feel of the game lacked a certain polish. This however should not stop you from enjoying the story which in my opinion is this games major selling point as it one of the better attempts at a storyline in a game in all of the titles I have played recently and it is quite refreshing to see a developer actually implementing a solid story into their gameplay. The graphics on MSS are not overly impressive but it more than makes up for it with some of the most atmospheric sound I have heard and you are guaranteed to get a shiver down your spine.

While not a 5 star game, I feel this doesn't get as much love as it deserves. I think a lot of people and reviewers have approached this as an action game and it really isn't! It's far more like the old "point and click" games, but one where you have full control over your character and can freely wander around. There are a few stealth sections that, to be honest, don't really work very well, but thankfully, those are few and far between.I found the story to be very compelling and the voice acting is of a high standard. It all moves along at a reasonable pace and I imagine that if you just concentrate on the story alone and don't looks for the collectables etc, you can probably blast through it in a few hours, but finding all the 200+ items can be very time consuming.Annoyingly, I missed just 2 collectables on my playthrough and there's only a "new game" option once you finish the game, so I'm going to have to play the whole thing again to look for my missing 2 items! But, I'll enjoy that when I decide to replay as I enjoyed playing this anyway. One other slight disappointment is the fact that there are only 4 side missions and all 4 can be found very early on in the game. It's almost as though the developers ran out of time or something as there are clearly other characters you come across that need help, but you just end up saying "I wish I could help". I can't help feeling that these were supposed to be side missions, but for whatever reason, they just ain't there! But, as I say, I really enjoyed playing through this game and I pleased I decided to ignore all the reviews and buy it anyway. If I didn't then I'd have missed out on a very good game, even if it's not a 5 star game!

I'm an avid gamer and tend to buy a large variety of games; I didn't quite know what to expect from this one not too mention I was losing interest in video games so it really surprised me.Still haven't finished it but within the first few minutes you could tell this was going to be good; the graphics looked great, the story was interesting from the get go (I was yelling at the scream several times as well...) and some of it reminded me of Telltales style in terms of character movement and speech selection which is something I like very much in a game. It's not really an issue for me but the world is quite open however you cannot access certain areas until you get far enough into the story soit does feel like a strange combination of a completely linear story in an open world at times but it's not enough to put me off or annoy me at all.I think the game has gone largely unnoticed due to having such a close release date to 'Watch Dogs' and to be honest it did slip my mind until it arrived at my door but it's definitely a brilliant game and one that should be picked up; had no problems with bugs at all and it does link to Steam so do bear that in mind if you don't like to use Steam. If you're unsure you could always watch a bit of a playthrough on youtube as I'm sure there must be some; if you're a fan of murder mystery games of tv shows then this could be the game for you.Definately reccomend this game!!

I missed this game first time round as I couldn't afford it but after a year I found it on here for £7 brand new! Thought it was worth a go.I play a lot of games, and can honestly say this one has been misjudged by a lot of people. The general reviews don't really do it justice. As soon as it made clear that you play a detective that has to solve his own murder...I was in. Hooked! The story is extremely linear, and it works well with this type of detective game. It has some nice twists and turns and isn't trying to be the best...it honestly comes across as a story someone really wanted to tell. The main focus of the game is detective work which works by picking up items, reading about them and choosing the most relevant to forward the plot. Simple and enjoyable. You learn lots about the history of the characters. There is very basic combat which is only used a couple of times in the game as a whole. This would be the only issue, it feels like it was shoe horned in by the higher ups producing the game. It doesn't need it, but can add a bit of a scare factor in a game which is quite spooky at times. If you're looking for action, adventure, exotic locations, etc...this isn't the game for you. Want to play through a good ghost story that looks good and keeps you distracted for a few days? Pick this up.It's like a detective TV show that you play yourself. Glad I bought it, especially at such a low price.

As a big time fan of the Supernatural and a lover of detective stories I couldn't help but be intrigued by this game. You play as Ronan O'connor a tough cop who was too reckless for his own good and ended up getting himself murdered, he now needs to solve his own homocide. The game is well thought out with an intriguing storyline and lots of nice little nods towards fans of detective stories and paranormal enthusiasts. Detective fans will enjoy the tough cop persona of Ronan and be intrigued by the sutle clue finding, whilst enthusiasts of the Paranormal will enjoy being a ghost and doing ghostly things such as walking through walls, possessing the weak minded and talking to psychics. They have even added in Residual imprints which goes to show that the developers have put a lot of thought into the gameThere are lots of other things to keep you entertained whilst solving your murder, such as helping lost souls, discovering the history of Salem and avoiding Demons. There are a few weaknesses to the game in my view though. The graphics already look a little dated and Salem is rather small, whilst you are limited to as where you can go due to pretty much every building in the town is consecrated meaning you can't enter them. Still a good game. If you enjoy detective games and or are interested in the Paranormal, then this game is a little gem

I think this is a brilliant game. Without revealing to much you play as detective Ronan O' Connor who has been murdered, you have to solve the mystery behind your own death! Very strange idea but it is actually a good game where you have to think what to do. It's a very eerie game and I don't think it is a game to show of high definition graphics but what it does it does well. It appears to be a shortish game possibly as some people have already got the platinum trophy (released 03/06/14 in the USA) and during one sitting I got 35% of the trophies in about 3 hours or so! However I am enjoying it. I would recommend it from what I have played. You go around finding clues and collectibles which add depth to the explanations behind certain aspects to the murder and other crimes which you come across. You can eavesdrop onto other humans conversations to gain more information etc. All in all it's a game which has a different approach, you have to think logically and it is a breath of fresh air for the gaming world. All of this is my opinion of course.

This game was very fun. The mystery part was pretty cool. You basically have to find out who killed you which leads to a partnership with a medium and several side cases. You have demons after you in sections of the game. The demons were kind of a pain in the butt to kill until I figured out a good strategy. The only thing in the game that was really annoying was that there was no map. When you an walk through some objects and not others you tend to get a little lost sometimes trying to find a location you have just been. A street map would have definitely solved that problem. Oh well. It was a very fun game anyway. It seems like the creators actually out some thought into the plot and main character development..There are always fluff characters in every game and this was no exception. Some side characters seemed very distracted, but there were a bunch of murders going on. The end was kind of a fun and interesting twist.

I would never have bought this game if it weren't for my pesky girlfriend. She read about it and was convinced she'd enjoy it, which she did, and after some misgivings I admit I enjoyed it too - which was strange, as ordinarily I enjoy running around shooting people in the face, levelling up my character, developing skill trees and so on...which is as far removed from this game as you can get.No guns, no weapons of any kind, instead a series of abilities you learn as you go. Possess people (and cats), throw yourself bodily through space to explore hard to reach areas, hide in the residue of ghosts, throttle evil monsters. Good stuff. It all takes place in a little hamlet-sized town, and the idea is to solve a series of crimes once you've already been murdered by the prime suspect. Spooky.A short game though, and once it's complete, it's complete. But a nice, good-looking, enjoyable diversion.

I loved this game, always willing to give games a go if i think i'll like them despite bad reviews.I found the story really intriguing which kept me playing, I love games with a good story. I can see why this has been said to be similar to Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls loosely by other reviewers..It is quite a short game but didn't feel overly short to me since I didnt sit and play it though, I kept coming back to it..I did encounter one glitch in the game but that was rectified in the 2nd playthroughOnly part I wasn't that impressed was, even though all your collectibles count for the 2nd playthrough, it doesnt let you know which ones you've already collected, but as the game is short,it didn't take that long to complete and collect the missing things..Had i known this before i rushed into the 2nd playthrough, i would of noted which things i was missing..

I absolutely love adventure games with a good mystery story. I played Havy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Walking Dead by Telltale and I must say that I wasn't disappointed in Murdered: Soul Suspect. If you want to see awesome graphics then you might be disappointed. I would say that this game looks as good as PS3 games should have looked like. So it looks good but not excellent. But graphics is not really what is most important about this game. For me the storytelling and the whole feel of the game gripped me from the start. I couldn't put my pad down until I finished a game which I did over 2 days. So yeah another point is it's fairly short BUT I would rather play a shorter game with enough substance to keep me busy rather than drag things out.So all in all if you are after a murder mystery with a supernatural twist, go for it.

I cannot for the life of me think of why anyone would give this less than five stars the story is gripping, the environments rich, detailed and stunning, the action is great, the powers fun and the conclusion satisfying and just amazing twists. The only think I could see was some people complaining about lack of killing if your a mindless brutal dick yes I can see why a game without shooting everything might be difficult for your pathetic minds, if you enjoy solving murders, actually using your brain instead of pointing and clicking like some blood loving nut then welcome. This game doesn't have shooting but the demons will scare you,you will be able to kill them but you do need to use your brain which from some of the negative reviews was clearly their problem.Buy it its WORTH alot more than what they are charging!
