I love a good story and I read lots of books about success principles, too and being the best you can be. (I'm a Teacher, trainer, coach)This book delivered both.I wanted to read it quickly - but decided to slow it down and really enjoy not only the story but the 12 pillars that are the core of the book.We are people who love stories and when a story can convey truths that will enhance and improve our lives then all the better. When we are given the example of someone like us putting those principles into practice (like in this story) we see its possible and have hope that we can also experience changeIt also lets us know that there will be obstacles and detours along the way - but its worth it to not give up,give out or give in.Beats textbook format- boring; and lectures-also boringI think these types of books would be great for students to read in school- not just in English class either... they have vital truths that if learned early could really make a difference in our world

I am not an easy sell when it comes to financial self-help books because many of them want you to do things that are improbable, or impossible, at certain times in your life. However, this books focuses on making you a successful person inside before starting the outside (material) successes. I really liked that because I believe many people think money will buy them happiness; this book shows that you must first be happy inside to be able to enjoy your outside (material) success. The only reason I gave it four stars is because I believe some of the financial advice may still be a bit impracticable for the character in the story. If he followed it exactly I do not know how he would have time for sleep!

I never heard of Jim Rohn until 6 years after he died. In one of his books he talks about a goal he had, that one day, years after his death, someone would discover one of his books and it would change their life. (Evidently he aimed for that kind of legacy, and relates 'legacy' in 12 Pillars too.) I'd say that person finding the book was me, but I am sure thousands more have also had that experience.I read, listened, and re-read 12 Pillars, then worked up a visual (mindmap) overview of all the principles, which I am still joyfully studying. Might be the best few dollars I ever spent on any personal development book.

I can't help but wonder if this inspiring story of and older man mentoring a younger one is not based on what the author, Jim Rohn, experienced himself when a young husband, then later reversed the roles before he died. It is a wonderful story of a fateful meeting that blossomed into a cherished friendship that enriched two men - one the teacher, the other the student who rose to new heights due to the wisdom and direction of his new friend. Truly a thought provoking and moving story that makes you feel that you have much to offer others if you but follow a few habits practiced and known by successful people.

What can I say about this book. As a relative newbie to the world of Network Marketing and someone who has not really deleted into the world of reading personal development books, this is a fabulous stater book. For someone who gets bored reading practical books with ideas that are sometimes hard to follow, this book is very different. It is a well written story by one of the greats and it keeps you interested the whole way through. The twist at the end is not unexpected but it is gives you a twinge of sadness but hope at the same time. A thoroughly good read.

Good. Self help book that looks explains by way of a story and how the character (who is down on his luck) reacts to these 12 pillars of wisdom (from a successful man) as they are imparted by the 'gardener' of the successful man. In the end the gardener was actually the successful man(predictably). This is a good way of doing it. Book could deal more with the difficulties/successes the character encounters when implementing these 12 pillars of wisdom into his life and could relay the results back to the gardener. That would have made it a classic.

What a book! There is something about this book that speaks to my heart and soul because I am a Michael. For years I have drifted without knowing how to get more out of life. Now I know and will put into action the twelve pillars first in spirit by time and reading, second in marriage to my incredible wife of 36 years by communication and time, next in my business by personal development and goal setting, and lastly daily exercise (the last of the three Total Well-Being principles).Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can't wait to begin!

I am 22 years old and have just graduated from college and I am looking for any way to start my career off in the right direction and this book is exactly what I was looking for. Perfect read for anyone looking for self improvement techniques and suggestions. I am not an avid reader, something I am trying to improve on, but the book has nice flow and simple enough language that makes the book easy enough to read in a couple of sittings. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for the first steps in self improvement.

I am a HUGE Jim Rohn fan, however this book didn't really live up to what I would have expected from Rohn. It was very readable, but quite brief. Each chapter focuses on 1 of Jim Rohn's well known philosophies, and lots of classic quotes. Such as 'work harder on yourself than you do on your job'!! Quite a basic book and entertaining enough, but not as much depth as I might have expected. Still an enjoyable read nevertheless, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who hasn't previously encountered his work.

"Twelve Pillars" is one of my favorite books. The author successfully presents nonfiction self growth content in a novel-style. I've red it several times, and every time I tuned up to tears at the end. SO smart and kind book, full with useful, easy to read and easy to apply life changing strategies. If you are a "personal development person", or if you are just browsing, this book is a great start. Read it as your first book on that topic. You will never regret.Dr. Irina Koles, author of

The fundamentals for successful, prosper, and happy life. If one is not familiar with these fundamentals, then this book is a great start for a wonderful journey. The ones who are familiar, and even live by these rules, should read the book as a great reminder. The wisdom is transfer via a wonderful and simple story. This book can be a great tool to teach our children these fundamentals. I strongly suggest for everyone with kids to have a copy of this book at home.

I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to succeed at anything but doesn't know how to approach it. While the base of the lessons have more to do with money than anything else, the authors show that these principles can be applied to all aspects of life. I bought a copy for my son, who is now grown, because these are things I would have liked to have been able to teach him. I'm keeping my copy because I intend to read it again, maybe a couple of times.

I read this book by accident. It was a requirement for my 10 year old son to read. I read it because I thought the book would be too "big" for him to read and understand. In the process of reading it for him, I became really engaged and ended up really enjoying it.The book is pretty small (100 pages or so) and is a really fast read (I read it in 2 days). The story line is simple and easy to understand. I took a lot of away from it.I highly recommend it.

At age 46, I deeply regret that I have only recently discovered this book! The truths are simple and yet profound. I consider it a "must read" for anyone that desires to get a better sense of direction for their life. I currently have my 16 year old son reading it and he loves it. I purchased a copy for a very close friend, and simply can't stop meditating on the content and applying the principles to my own life.
