This is a really good phone! After 6 months I still can't find anything to dislike. I am allergic to the awful unwanted apps that many mfrs install, and this is pretty close to vanilla Android. This is my second Motorola. I'd been very pleased with my previous G4 - which still works perfectly at 4 years old, but is slow and too small. I had too many apps that I couldn't do without. At £379 the Z2 Play was more than I wanted to pay, but I couldn't find anything cheaper that wasn't badly compromised in one way or another. It's been worth it, too.64GB+2GB means it's reasonably fast and very spacious, specially since I added a 64GB microSD card as well - which you can adopt to be part of the main storage,so get round Google's restrictions on what you can store on SD.Fingerprint recognition is fast and accurate and a great relief after years of messing with PIN's.If you used it without a case, it's a bit slippery, but I use it with the (also excellent) Urban Armor case. I've dropped the phone 3 times (as you do), it's still utterly unmarked. I do wish someone would make an armoured case that could take the phone with the battery mod in place.I've no idea if the screen is 'soft' because I've used a tempered glass protector (OMOTON - excellent) since day one (and don't put it in my pocket with sharp metal keys. How that is the phone's fault I have no idea). Again, not a mark.Battery life is good and easily lasts me a day of moderately heavy use. I quite often finish a day with 45-50% charge, even after wasting a couple of hours I have the Moto battery mod, but never seem to need to use it. It's sat in its box, might be more useful on holiday. The camera is pretty good in reasonable light, but not in the same class as the high-end phones at twice the price. I don't personally care about that, as for anything that matters I'd be using a proper camera anyhow. It's certainly more than good enough for casual use/social media/snaps and notes - many £200 compact cameras are worse. It has a magnetometer (compass) which Motorola have stupidly removed from the G5. I use a compass quite a lot.Put it this way: I'd buy it again without hesitation. And at £299 now, it's even better. I can't find anything on the market that I might prefer except possibly the Oneplus 5 at twice that price. For a slightly better screen and camera, that's diminishing returns.

Bought this from Foniacs via Amazon, i also bought the Spigen case and tempered glass screen protectors that Amazon recommended as a package, with phone. So a 64GB smartphone with 4Gb of RAM for £299. In my view this phone is worth every penny at this price. I have had the phone for over two weeks now and i cannot fault it. many reviews say that the Z2 play reduced its battery from the Z2 of last year from 3500 m/aH to 3000, and that it wouldn't last as long. well i am not a gamer on my phone, but a mixture of e-mails, WhatsApp, surfing google for news and reviews, taking a few photos and probably 20-25 minutes a day calling plus linking to a bluetooth speaker for music,i am easily getting 2 days out of the phone, which is as good as my previous Samsung S4. The camera is good, again for snaps and general pictures its okay. I love the fingerprint sensor, its very quick and i use it like a mouse on a laptop, swiping left and right etc. Also you can put up to five fingerprints on the phone, so my wife can open/access it in an emergency. The moto voice works well, If you say "Show me" followed by whatever you want to open, then the phone opens that App. so for example if i say "Show me Gmail" it will open my Gmail. Also stock Android 7.1 with minimal bloatware is a bonus. Yes this phone has not got the fastest processor, but i have not had any stuttering or issues. I have always been a Samsung fan, but my wife bought a Moto X play a few years ago and both of us have been well impressed, so i decided to upgrade to this phone from a 2014 Samsung S4, so far i am not dissapointed. I thoroughly recommend the Spigen case and the tempered glass screen protector. I have also bought the Moto Mod projector, and we can watch Netflix off the phone projected onto a wall with a massive screen. All in all well pleased and well done Motorola

Good phone, bought to replace my Nexus 5x as pixel range just too expensive to justify. Gives a very clean android experience, very little extra software comes pre installed. (I can't stand all of the extra rubbish Samsung and the like bundle with the phone that you can't get rid of), still no update to android 8 (Jan 18), although Moto have promised the update soon.Nice screen, vibrant colours and very good contrast and seems clear in all lights.Battery life is very good. My Nexus never managed to last 12 hours with my average usage, this phone can easily manage over 24 hours and USB c turbo charge gives 8 or 9 hours of normal use from a half hour chargeMoto mods are a nice idea, although availability in the UK seems poor and relatively expensive. Not seen any worth buying in my opinion unless the price drops. id originally thought the battery pack mod would be useful but battery life of the phone means that I rarely run out of power.Solid build quality, metal body gives it a nice feel in your hand.Overall, a good phone, definitely good value for money.

Light, nice screen, I'm not a gamer so it's certainly fast enough - internal battery isn't great for sustained use unless you don't mind daily charging, but the mods give you a lot of flexibility for charging opportunities or portable power. Fingerprint censor navigation is really handy, I don't really use phone cameras but in good light it seemed to take a decent enough picture.Moto Mods are really cool - I recommend the Incipio 2200mah battery pack with the wireless charge ability (could only find this in the US) - it's slim and protects the camera hump. It doesn't need to be connected to the phone to charge wirelessly so you could leave it charging in your office during the day and clip it back on for the journey home. The Alexa mod works well as a good charge/docking station with speaker/mic setup making it a useful portable speakerphone for small meetings while also containing a 1500mah battery.

This is actually a Vodafone Italy phone... all of the software update wording is not in English. It took over 3 hours for all the security updates (and then Oreo) to be installed (the phone was on the May 2017 security patch from the box!). Because Vodafone Italy couldn't be bothered to release Android 9, unlike the EU Retail version of the phone, you will be stuck on Oreo at the June 2019 patch release. Forever. And if you try to manually update, the phone rejects the (genuine Moto) retail update as the device fingerprint is albus vf, not albus. The battery was completely flat (= 0%) and it took several minutes for charging to even commence.Other than the above disappointment, the phone is OK.

Never been happier to use Motorola again.Lets cut to the chase, this does not have the specs of the Pixel 2, the S9 etc etc ....... however its less then half the price. This play edition is running 99% stock Android & its mega fast. Not just the OS, but everything. Chrome browsing, downloading, games, all great.Single speaker is a little odd at first however, its front facing so is better then most phones ever made. For the money, this is a no brainer. The MotoMod's are great. The magnet system is very strong.

I bought a g4plus last year to replace my X. It's amazing to have all the bits back I have missed. Moto reach, screen and the compass back.Same size battery but the better chipset and screen makes this last almost twice the screen on time.Phone feels like a flagship. It does come with a back in the box, mine is a dark wooden one that looks great.Very pleased.

I absolutely love this phone to bits. This beats iPhone and Samsung anyday when it comes to innovation. Just bought it again in 2020 even if it is a few years old now. Moto mods are the best. Sad to see Moto not continuing them. I love my Hassleblad camera mod, Alexa mod, 360 mod, Polaroid mod the list goes on.Hello Moto...

Great phone for my wife. Wasn't sure what she would think about it (being a Samsung user) but she loves it! Nice specs, great screen and expandable memory via Micromax did card. Only downfall was the phone was left on my door step for the whole world to see when walking past my house ?

Great phone from Motorola with great attachment options, and fast. Really good cameras front and back. I've bought 2, one for my daughter and myself. We both prefer the Z2 play to our previous phone's an iPhone 6s and Sony Z1 and Z2

Got this as a replacement for my four year old HTC one. The phone has lovely features, very easy to use. Really happy with it. The price of just under 200 pounds was great. After couple of weeks of use, can't fault it for anything.

Really enjoying the phone. Bought it for the motorcycle kids as well. Now the Z3 play is out, but the old z2 still does the job great.
