Once again I was searching the Amazon Deals of the Week page, before stumbling across this swingball set for cheap. I looked at over sets, and this was half the price of that. As a student, I live with my friends, all round the 19 mark, so I asked them whether we should get it. Sure enough the answer was yes.It swiftly came through the post and into the house. It was just getting to the point the sun was going down, so we thought a quick play before it gets dark. We set it up, which was quick and simple, and we took it in turns to play it. Maybe playing with students is a bad idea, especially after the power involved in actually hitting the ball. One of my friends got a good "thump" round the head with the ball, knocking him over. Now I'm sure that's what it we wasn't designed for, but it had us in stitches for 10 minutes. It turned dark and we left the set outside as well as the plastic bats. A few times we decide to go out there and play on it. We started to plant flowers, and the swingball proved a good distraction from doing that, although it had been raining the night before, so the ball was releasing a lot of water. But that was fun. Since then, we haven't played it. The novelty of the item has seemed to have warn off. It has been outside, left and deserted, seeing rain, wind, snow, and maybe a bit of the British sun. Maybe when it becomes summer, it may see some more love and affection then we have been giving it.Overall, it's a good product. It is quick and easy to set up, but seems to have a bit of trouble staying in the ground. There's always a worry of the ball and the string falling off and ruining it, but so far it's lasted. The only problem is that our attention span is low, and we don't use it often.

We had one of these when I was a kid. I can remember it being great fun, but ours had a metal coil with the rope attached via a plastic ring - eventually that ring wore through and it broke. The new version seems a much better design. The checkerbats appear to come from almost the same moulding as the 1980's version, but they are in bright lime green now instead of black and they don't have the 'I serve' and ''You serve' printed on the handles so could flip them like a coin to see who got to start. The actual mechanism is much better. The pole itself comes in a couple of sections, which makes it less robust, but does make it easier to package and transport. It's fine though - it works.Instead of the old metal coil you now have a moulded plastic spiral like the thread of a screw and the rope simply loops around it. This should mean it'll be more hard wearing and last longer. The only issue we've found when play the game for extended periods is very rarely certain shots can make the rope loop jump over the moulded track - giving that player a slight advantage. It's great fun though and well made. It actually got the kids off the Xbox and going outside for once!

Took a minute to work out how it goes together, but literally a minute. Paid about 22 for it which i thought was a tad high, probably due to demand at the moment as the kids aren't in school.anyway!the kids love it, but like anything they don't do it unless you make them, so i kick them out into the garden for half an hour everyday to play with this, they generally stay out for about an hour and come in either laughing or hating each other, i dont care as long as they stay outside doing it :)teh product itself is about as good as your gonna get, its not going to take a couples of 15 year old lads trying to smash the crap out of it all day but for my 10 and 12 year old its fine :)also its the kind that sticks in the ground which i prefer to the weighted ones, only problem is the kids have to move it around each day cause its gets a bit loose, if your ground is really soft you might need to support this with something else?well im rambling, i would buy this again, so i suppose thats as good as it gets :)thanksneil

Classic Swingball, just as I remembered from childhood. Has so far withstood 2 years of battering by the adults every family get-together and an onslaught by my two year old, 5 year old and all their friends without any sign of rust. We do store this in the garage over winter but it remains outside all spring, summer and autumn. The bats and ball do fade quite quickly as with most plastic left out in the full sun all summer. The bats have been chucked about and have not split and do not show any signs of damage. If this is being bought for young kids, I would suggest that the bats are too heavy for the under 3's at the very least as they can't hold them in position due to their weight (but wenormally give the younger kids cheaper plastic bats that are much lighter and they still have a good go at whacking the ball).

This seems slightly different from my childhood game, I distinctly remember that when it reached the top or bottom, a spring catch was released showing the winner. This does not have that feature, but it is still a great outdoor toy.It comes in 3 pieces, a spiked pole pushes into the ground and 2 sections add to this. The ball is looped over the top, and away you go. The string on the ball can be made shorter by using the supplies plastic adapter, just wind the string around it. The large plastic bats seem sturdy.I am now teaching my daughter how to play, and in the same process ducking from a weird ball angle at times. Oh the fun of having a tennis ball on a string coming at you and hitting you in the face at high speed, whisky everyone laughs as you fall down holding your face. Brings back memories.

This arrived well inside timeframe (2 days after ordering). Used for one session so far and 7 year old thrilled with it. Bats seem pretty sturdy as is the frame. Unless your the hulk, you need a mallet to hammer into ground and some sort of cover to protect the metal edge would be good while you do this. Only came in a brown box, but instructions included which are straight forward and rules of the game. You can also shorten the length of the ball rope if you want with a plastic attachment you wind the string around. Has a clip you put on the post to attach the bats to when not in use ( though not tried them yet as only put up temporarily in GP's garden as soon as opened.Had one of these as a child and it provided end,e's hours of fun as well as exercise! Totally recommend a swingball for any age!

Seems well-made and sturdy. Comes in a plain cardboard box. A few things to note: the yellow bat holders get in the way so place on the lower joint and not where suggested. As another person suggested, a small plank with a hole in the centre placed over the spike before assembling the rest of the item helps to put it in the ground as you can then stand on the board in the manner of a pogo stick rather than trying to force it in by hand. The yellow spiral at the top is not as effective as the original metal track but works well. The plastic thing to help shorten the string is annoying but does its best. Bats are very good.Lots of fun so far in the garden and no kids have had their teeth knocked out.

I had a Swingball when I was little and spent hours in the garden playing with it. My children love their iPads a bit too much so I am always looking for ways to get them to be outside and to be more active so I ordered the Swingball in the hope that they would enjoy it as much as I did. I am very happy to say that it has been a huge hit and they absolutely love it! They have played with it every day since we got it and I've enjoyed playing too. The Swingball is very sturdy and of great quality. The attention to detail is also great with the addition of bat holders for when it is not in use. I would highly recommend buying this, you won't be disappointed!

My 11yr old son bought this with an Amazon voucher received for his birthday. He'd been playing a similar one at his grandparents. This arrived at the time said and was easy to assemble. The only bit we found hard was getting the spike into the ground, this could be our hard soil in our front garden. The grandparents had the version with the box base which you fill with sand which might be easier. A brilliant game thought, my son has played for hours the past 2 days on his own and with his dad. It seems sturdy and I imagine we will get plenty of use out of it.

PROs: Bought this as some outdoor entertainment for the family and we enjoyed it all summer. We've used it in our garden and took it to the beach. Easy to install in both lawn and sand, but I recommend a rubber mallet to do so.CONs: The base of the unit got a little bent over the summer as we moved it around different locations. The red bats have faded quickly in the sunshine to a pale orange (but of course still perfectly usable). The tennis ball on the string has frayed a little probably due to be left out in the rain (this is British summer after all).

Easter 2011 with friends, hot sunny days in the garden and what came out of the shed?An original swingball that the kids hadn't used for years. It got a bashing over that weekend and gave hours of fun and much laughter. So much so that when I got back to London, I went onto the Internet and bought one. It's still in the garden, being used by my children almost daily and getting them away from their computers for periods of time is no bad thing either!! Best £20 I've spent I reckon.Swingball... Every home should have one :-)

Been wanting one of these for years!Great fun had by all the family, unfortunately the dog accidentally ran into it and snapped the pole! Either our dog has super strength or the pole was not very durable hence my lower star rating!Really easy to put together and to push into the ground, the plastic attachment that allows you to clip the ball string onto itself snapped very early on when playing so a pointless piece really.Would definitely recommend, just don’t kick a football for your dog in the way of the swingball!

You can't beat the classics! We bought this originally for our garden in summer and our kids, the neighbour's kids, friends, family and passers-by have all enjoyed this game. It's sturdy and has a spike to punch the pole into the ground. Ours is several years old now and has stood the test of time; slightly faded and the plastic stopper at the top has cracked yet still works fine.Took it to Scout Camp this year and it got well used; being able to split the pole into two made it easier to pack in the car!

A real blast from the past toy that continues to have timeless appeal!!!. A simple and far from bank breaking garden toy that provides endless entertainment, it can be played both in pairs aswell as alone, it improves co-ordination skills in addition to improving general fitness. I had one of these sets over 20 years ago and had endless fun with it then as does my daughter with it now which goes to show how it's appeal continues and as a bonus us grown-ups are still not too big to play on it too!!!!!.

Really pleased with this for garden use, and can see us taking it to the beach too as the pole easily disassembles into three parts. It's easy to get the spike into the ground and it stays put. Gameplay is as fun as I remember from my childhood and the kids really like playing with it either as a two or by themselves to practise. It has chunky bats that seem almost impossible to break and it's good that these store on the pole.Great garden toy for a reasonable price I would recommend to others.
