This "Cheaters Edition" Monopoly is a big hit with my wife, mainly because "It's the only time I've ever beaten you at Monopoly". I approached the game with some healthy skepticism, but soon found myself thoroughly enjoying it.The game has a few variations on the standard Monopoly rules, making things a little simpler and faster.Firstly, whilst most of the usual properties are present and correct, the stations are now warp points instead of properties, and you move to the next station when you land on them. A nice touch. Additionally there are some pricing changes: There's a free property, another that comes with a free hotel, and yet another pitched at half price. The "Community Chest" and "Chance" cards have seen some changes too,so as well as the classic "Go to Jail" and "Get Out of Jail Free" cards, there's a "Celebrity" card to reverse the rent paid, when landing on a property. So if you land on someone else's property while holding the card, they have to pay you to stay there. There are cards to halve the rent paid until the landlord pays to renovate the property, as well as a good selection of other, well chosen cards. Hasbro have done a good job freshening up the game, without losing the core of Monopoly in the process.Additionally, when a player is sent to jail, they must wear a handcuff, which is a great idea. There's a neat twist to the cheater's edition, in that you are rewarded for cheating, according to one of five cheat cards set out on the board. Payers are encouraged to steal property, move other players pieces, take extra money from the bank, remove the handcuff or one of a variety of other little cheats. If caught cheating by another player, the cheater must pay a forfeit fine. If the cheater gets away with the cheat, they get a reward. If falsely accused of cheating, the false accuser takes a forfeit. I thought this aspect of the game would spoil Monoply, but I have to admit it actually adds to the fun, and actually incorporates a lot of the informal dodgy behaviour I've seen playing regular Monopoly at home, into the game rules. Put simply, it all gels together beautifully!Play time is a little shorter than usual Monopoly, with a two player game being able to be over in as little as half an hour, if luck is not on your side. (Much to my wife's delight.) I think that's actually a core part of the fun of this Cheaters Edition version of Monopoly, it's weighted a little more to be affected by luck than regular Monopoly, and benefits from it.The property cards are smaller than usual as they are arrayed around the edge of the board, and the notes have a unique "Shhh!" Cheaters Edition design for Rich Uncle Pennybags featured on each note. The character pieces are nicely detailed and well finished, and the dice are weighty and satisfying to use. The board is sturdy and nicely printed and the only gripe I've got about the game is that the storage options for all the bits could be a little better. Even the price is right, at a whisker under £20.All in all, this is an excellent evolution of a classic game, and arguably more fun than the original Monopoly. The shorter playing time makes it more of a game to pick up and have a go, rather than the commitment of time regular Monopoly can be, and the cheating adds to the fun. Highly recommended!

My 14-year-old grandson is an avid Monopoly player and collector of various sets so he was put in charge of our first session with this game. The basic rules are the same, but there are a few twists and "cheaters' cards" which allow you to play tricks on your opponents to increase your chances of winning. There were only three of us playing the first time, and ideally you need at least four players to be able to accomplish these without being caught red-handed. Nevertheless the ruses increased the fun factor and I would say they make the game more enjoyable as it can sometimes be taken too seriously! We all liked the silly touch of the handcuffs for when you are sent to jail (and if someone joins you they have to don them and you get released),and there were several other nice touches. In terms of the actual board and layout, my only complaint is that the standard 10 squares per side has been dropped and there are only nine (no utilities, tax or supertax squares) and if you are used to jumping around the board based on the original layout this can be problematic. Everything else has been scaled down a bit too - the money, title deeds and chance/community chest cards. Even the tokens are rather lightweight (aluminium?). Minor quibbles I suppose but at £21.99 (at time of review) I think you could expect more. So four out of five stars, but definitely recommended for family fun.

**at time of this review, I had asked family members their views and points as well. Now is the time to tell you about Monopoly Cheaters Edition. I havent been too excited about this game in comparison to others of the Monopoly family. It was my 18yr old son that mentioned it as a Christmas present. So we saw the adverts, looked at the reviews and bought it.So, its Monopoly with permissions. You can steal from the bank, each other etc. There are handcuffs that will either fit or not fit your wrist. Its nice that the chance cards and community chest cards have different "missions" now and the gameboard layout is good.It has a modernised feel to it.We struggled to have 4 people sitting around it with their properties and money laid out in a manner that allows people to steal them as well as having to move the box around to each person for their turn. Just not the room and that really made it awkward if you had a mission to steal something from someone. The other disappointing factor is that once all the properties are bought the game ends. So to make money to buy hotels is hard. The best aspect of the game was watching people trying to and not trying to cheat. we had more fun accusing each other of cheating and paying the consequences if they hadnt of cheated. For a laugh, its a good game. for serious Monopoly players, I feel they would be quite disappointed with this Edition

I was not sure about this game when we first got it and read the instructions. There were times when we were a little confused but once settled into it, we were on a roll. The first 45mins-hour, you are trying to find a way to fulfil one of the cheats, once you become accomplished 'cheaters' you find that you spend the remainder of the game, being accused of looking guilty, you are trying to keep your eyes on all of your opponents and you just cannot help giggle. The second and subsequent games, it seems easier to find ways to cheat and harder to spot the cheaters! It really does make the game a little more interesting and less serious. We found our second game to be much more fun and it was enjoyed by a 9 yr old,a 14 yr and 2 adults so it seems to be suitable for all age groups that are old enough to understand the basic rules of the standard game of Monopoly.Definitely fun for rainy days though it does take at least a couple of hours to complete and it better with at least 4 people preferably more. The more people you have playing the easier it is to accomplish some cheats such as claiming rent for another players property. When only 3 or 4 players are playing, they are more focused and it is harder to pull such scams off. With 3 people it is too easy to watch your opponents and you just end up with a standard monopoly game

I bought this as my teenagers love Monopoly and I thought this would be something they would enjoy but was a different take on the main game. The aim of the game is very similar to the normal Monopoly but you have cheat cards and everyone playing at some point tries to get away with cheating. If you succeed you are rewarded, get caught and you have to put the handcuffs on - beware one of the cheat cards is to get out of the handcuffs without others seeing so make sure the player with the on keeps their hands on the table.Talking about the handcuffs, by the third time we played we were fed up of putting them on and removed the cheat card for them and left them in the box.The game is okay but I don't know where it was because we are all super vigilant, there were only four of us playing or what but no-one got away with cheating, plus with five cheats at anyone time to remember, everyone kept on forgetting what was written on the cards and spend a lot of time going over them again. The lads have now gone back to playing the normal version and this one has been sat in the cupboard for the last few months untouched.A novelty in my house but it didn't last and the original is preferred.

Our family loves monopoly for family games nights, and we're proud owners of various editions, and this has fast become one of our favourites, the aims are different, so it seems like less of a themed version of the usual game and more of a new game! Be warned, things can get loud in this game! The aim is to cheat and get away with it without being caught, and several rule changes have occurred in this edition. It's much shorter than the original game as the aim is for all the properties on the board to be owned and the game finishes there with the winner being the player with the most money/assets. If you don't have all night to play, this is probably the better option for you.The chance cards and community chests have a number of twists now and there's fewer properties to be owned on the board with the stations no longer being able to be owned and the obvious absence of the waterworks and electric. All in all though it's a fun filled version where the players need to be more on the ball than ever!

Brilliant for kids but the old set we have is much better quality. The property cards are very small. All the cards are made of very thin paper which will not last long. The game is more confusing than it should be as sometimes you are juggling trying to complete the challenge on a chance/community chest and cheat card all at the same time.Things I did like - The game pieces are all metal and it includes wacky figures like a T-Rex and penguin. The handcuffs were great fun for the kids, even our dog ended up handcuffed at one point lol. Kids will love trying to pull off the cheats like sneaking out of jail or pinching money from the bank.Things they'd probably do anyway but wouldn't get rewarded for.One thing I hated was that the train stations are not for sale. They just act as fast tracks to the next station. My favourite part of Monopoly was trying to buy up the stations.

I collect Monopoly variants and was intrigued when I saw this one pop up. A 'Cheaters Edition'? Judging by the way my family has played Monopoly over the years I always thought that was the object of the game! However, it was refreshing to see this variant and play it. The list of cheats you can use during the game is handily placed on an insert in the box. The board is pretty similar in layout to the standard Monopoly board minus utilities and a couple of others. Gameplay took a little getting used to as we're all used to underhand cheating in regular Monopoly whilst this variant of the game positively encourages it, however, once into the swing of it we all enjoyed playing, including the times we were handcuffed to the board (bit awkward if you need the loo). Great fun and will be played with again.

I received this game as a Christmas present and have already played it twice! Once with 2 players and once with 5 players and had the same amount of fun out of both games ( nothing worse than getting a game and realizing its not very good for only 2 players) This is a great alternative to the traditional monopoly. I love this game and I love the novelty of having to wear the handcuff when in jail. It is a great laugh trying to spot who is cheating and trying to be sly enough to cheat yourself. The only negative point I can find (And it's only a small one) is that unlike some of the newer monolpolys it doesn't have a "quick play" version so it can last absolutley hours but I really do recommend this game!Buy this with the confidence that you will have fun whether you play as a couple of as a family!

Love this twist on Monopoly, it took a couple of games to really get used to cheating (in my case, others in my family have lower gaming morals haha!). But it is funny and some of the tactics employed to aid deceptions have left me open mouthed, am I just that gullible? I thought at first the handcuffs were a little cheesy but in fact they are a brilliant addition, thankfully they are detachable if you want so you're not dragging the board about with them on but it is fun having the "prison chair" next to them. Perfect for an evening around the kitchen table and guaranteed to raise plenty of laughs. Each time we played with three people and I found as the game went on guards were lowered and that's when the real sneakiness started coming out and resulted in more scams hitting their mark.

The title isnt a criticism - just a caveat; basically I assumed this would be a normal Monopoly game with optional "cheating" add ons you could use or not use depending on how you wanted to play, but its really more a new game... or a massively modernised version. The play is essentially the same in terms of what the goal-to-win is, but the way you get there is now through a shorter game (thank god) which features a few new means of losing and gaining money, and of course the ability to be a sneaky rat about how you obtain a win.I would say this is a fun ALTERNATIVE to a traditional Monopoly set, but if you're a big fan of the classic, its not one to REPLACE an aged board.

This is Monopoly, sped up, made more fun, simpler and more anarchic. And it's really fun - until half your ill-gotten gains get nicked by another player. The same broad principles as straight Monopoly, with a slightly smaller board, simpler rules, a few freebies to make things interesting, lots of jeopardy and opportunities to cheat and circumvent the rules, yet it retains the overall flavour, goals and fun of the original. My only gripe would be that some of the allowed 'cheats' are dull as ditchwater and hugely unlikely. We eventually swap them for others because the chances of anyone actually completing them are so remote.

Bought whilst on deal as an add on to existing board games for new year. Turned out to be hilarious. We played as 7 adults and were in hysterics. The game itself takes a bit of getting used to as it is different to original monopoly- there are no houses, train stations aren't for sale etc. However the cheating element is hilarious. In our case it wasn't only the usual suspects that we expected would try cheating but also some of the quieter ones no one would suspect. I think the more people playing the better, as the cheating aspect is easier to achieve. Yet to play with only a couple of people.

As always, an excellent quality product from Hasbro but not for the feint-hearted. This game takes being competetive to a whole new level and if you are a sore loser be aware that tempers will fray! We all love a game and we all like to win fair and square. We get annoyed if somebody cheats, right? In this game cheating is what it's all about and it's allowed! Our (very competetive) family fell out with each other within the first five minutes - kids and adults alike. It took a couple of days to make up. Hilarious!Avoid at family Christmas gatherings etc., unless you truly want a divorce ?

19.8.2018

While I personally find it slightly ethically dubious, the rest of the family are consummate cheaters at Monopoly - partly to cope with the interminable length of 'standard' games, to be fair - so we were excited to try a new version of Monopoly in which this is not only permitted, but encouraged. With a bonus handcuff attached to the board! The gameplay is different enough to be novel and much more engaging, with faster gameplay and much more fun.Genuinely different to the standard game, in an irreverent and fun way, but without sacrificing the need for tactics. Great fun.
