This is a reasonably good upgrade from the first model called "Millennium Chess Genius". It contains a much faster processor and more memory which gives it a significant boost in playing strength. Also worth noting is the choice of opening books. It contains two opening libraries, one is called the "London" book, which is the one used by the original ChessGenius program that beat Kasparov under tournament conditions. The other is called the "Modern" book and was produced by the programmer of the well known HIARCS chess program available on PCs, MACs and mobile devices. Please note that although it contains the "London" book it is not the same chess program that beat Kasparov. Some of the chess knowledge has been removed which makes the program faster at searching. This can give variable results, sometimes beating the strongest dedicated machines from the past but also losing, sometimes badly, against weaker machines. However, against most human players, on its higher levels would be a punishing opponent.I have only owned the machine for a couple of weeks, but have witnessed the good wins and bad losses against a so-called weaker computer. I am not disappointed with my purchase as many more games need to be played to get a true idea of its playing strength. I have also yet to try the "London" book to see if this makes any difference. On chess forums its playing strength has been estimated anywhere from 2300 - 2400 ELO which for a dedicated chess computer at this price is very good indeed! In my limited testing so far against one other opponent, it wont achieve such a high rating as 2300. However, as said before, many games have to be played against many different opponents and an average ELO rating taken before its rating can be reliably quoted. The manufacturer states greater than 2200 ELO, and I think it is definitely greater than this, more likely to settle somewhere in the range 2300 - 2350. Even 2300 is impressive, and most humans will be hammered! All in all, I think this is a good purchase for me but if you are happy with the first model that came out in 2015, then not sure this is an urgent upgrade. Yes it's stronger and contains a choice of two book opening libraries but looks almost identical to the first machine. I'm waiting to see if Millennium are going to release another model next year. If it looks the same again and just contains a faster computer then I probably wont bother upgrading. On the other hand. if they put in a different chess program to that which comes in the first two computers, then I may be interested.

I have been pleased with this chess computer. It has many very good features including being able to switch it off in the middle of a game and return to the same position later. There are 34 levels of skill including 9 "fun levels" where the computer will occasionally make poor moves. This is obviously good for a beginner when he finds he can actually win a game. You can also ask for a hint on your next move which should help to improve your skill. I have read that the playing strength is 2300 ELO which is miles above anything I can get to, so it's fine for me.The reservations are that I think the design of the pieces is poor as it is not particularly easy to distinguish some of the pieces from each other.I am using the pieces I had from a previous chess computer I owned. The other reservation is that when making a move it is necessary to press the board sensors pretty firmly for them to register. I think it would be very easy for the makers to rectify both these things. (but are they listening?).I also bought an adaptor as I wasn't sure how long the batteries would last.

I was looking for an electronic chess board that didn't cost an arm and a leg but was still pretty good. I'm pleased with this, I think it looks great, the computer plays very well. But there are some things that need improving imo. Not enough space to store the pieces. The power socket should be at the back, else you end up with the lead coming out the front. The pieces are a a little cheap looking although I do like the silver. As far as software features, there's a few choices for length of games etc and various other set up options, but there's no feature that gives you a rating as you finish each game. It would be great if it matched your rating with an appropriate opponent rating.I still enjoy it and I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who wants electronic chess but isn't expecting things like internet play etc.

One has to wonder at the brains behind the design of this chess master piece, let's make a stunning looking chess set to go with our superb brained chess genius pro, oh, and don't worry if the pieces do not fit in the space specifically placed within the box for this purpose, the user will spend just as long trying to fit them all in (Impossible) as they will playing chess.

It does look like a toy. But, it's playing strength is 2200 elo. The pieces are poor. The German manufacturers put the effort into the program! Not for begginers or intermediate players. Worth price for strong opponent.
