I've been using the surface laptop for a few weeks now and I'm very happy with it, both in terms of the look and feel, but also the performance. As a traditional laptop owner for many years the first thing that hit me with this ultra-portable laptop is the size and weight. It's very sleek, very thin and light. The materials used are of good quality with a metal (or metal effect) case giving the laptop a nice high end feel to it.With it being an ultra-portable laptop, there is not much in the way of ports, but this is to be expected of laptops this size. There is one USB-A port (the most common USB port) and a newer USB-C port, and finally a proprietary surface connect port. The surface connect port is used for the power cable, but there is a dock available that can use the port to add more USB ports, display ports, and a network port as well as power the laptop. For 90% of the time I use the laptop this is all I need, but with no HDMI I have occasionally been that person turning up to a meeting and then realising I can't connect to the TV.A trackpad can make or break a laptop, luckily here the trackpad is great. It's big and responsive, with multiple finger gestures working perfectly. The keyboard is also a pleasure to use. Key presses have a good positive feel to them.Performance wise, the laptop feels very quick. It feels significantly faster than my older laptop (only 1 year old) that also runs Windows 10. I don't do anything hugely taxing on it apart from a little audio editing, but the laptop is more than capable of coping with this. Other than that it's emails, web browsing, streaming audio and some Word/PowerPoint documents, nothing that should cause any half decent laptop real problems.Battery life is probably the only downside to the laptop. I've been getting 6-8 hours on a charge which is fine, but not close to the 11.5 hours stated by Microsoft. It took me a while to start using the face recognition (security concerns? I don't know, just new technology fear I guess). Now I have I find it really useful. Keeps the kids from using the laptop without my knowing and doesn't give me another password I'm likely to forget. I'm surprised how quick and effective it is, there's also nice feedback on screen to let you know when it's looking for a face and when it recognises you.Positives:+ Sleek, stylish and premium look and feel+ Great performance+ Great trackpad and keyboard+ Nice displayNegatives:- Battery - it's a fine 6-8 hours, but not what is statedOverall:I really like this laptop. It looks great and performs well. When using it, It really feels like a high end product with a very stylish look and feel. I'm learning to live with the limited ports and may one day invest in a dock for better home use. For anyone looking for an ultra-portable windows based laptop you can't go far wrong with this.

I have the base model (i5 1035G7, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD) and it's an extremely well built machine. Heavier than I expected at first but feels very premium and has that lovely cold-to-the-touch metal construction. I personally love the Alcantara, I was forced to buy it due to the configuration I went for, but now I believe I would still go for it on a higher end config. It makes long sessions on the keyboard much more comfortable and it just feels so satisfying to the touch!Performance wise the i5-1035G7 is a small chunk faster than the outgoing top of the line i7-8565U, in both single and multi-core workloads despite the lower clock speeds. And due to the 10nm process, battery life is better as well, though as a software engineer I'm usually plugged in anyway. Speaking of which, this laptop handles pretty much everything I throw at it like large Android projects in Android Studio (very RAM and CPU intensive) even though I only have 8GB of RAM which is nice.Downsides? I only have 1 really and that is it can get quite hot under load, not quite uncomfortable on a lap, but getting there. If you're considering this (and can get it at £899 on a deal from somewhere like I did), I'd say just do it!

Even though I work in IT I'm by no means a tech fiend or always on the lookout for the fastest and the best. My home laptops have always been very much in the 'I need it for browsing, shopping, streaming' category, with no need for high end specs. This is the first higher range laptop I've ever owned, and as expected it is exceptional for everything I have used it for so far. Set up is a breeze thanks to Cortana, battery life is as good as I've ever had and it is super sleek, lightweight, and has a wonderfully crisp screen. No issues with facial recognition so far and the touch screen is a useful novelty when I choose to use it. I like the feel of the keys and touchpad, though it is fairly cold to the touch.I haven't yet bombarded it with extra apps and software yet, but I do intend on adding some basic audio and visual editing software at some point. I expect this will be handled easily given the stronger specs I'm used to.

As soon as you open the box you know it’s a quality item, the feel is solid, not heavy but sturdy, its looks are fantastic , so thin, the charging is so easy, it uses a magnetic touch clip to make the connection. As soon as it’s charged I set up my email and Microsoft accounts, I then started transferring all my bumf from my old laptop via an external drive. It was so easy and quick, astonishingly quick. The facial recognition takes a bit of getting used to , But once set up it’s easy to use. It’s great to use a combination of keyboard and touchscreen. Battery life is brilliant too, I kept checking to see how it was coping, but rest assured, it was fine, plenty of battery left considering how long I had been using it.I even watched a few films to see how they appeared on the screen,They looked fantastic .Overall I’m really pleased with this laptop, very fast, fantastic screen clarity and looks fantastic too.

Very lightweight. The keyboard is good but not as good as the keyboard on my 2014 MacBook Pro.The screen is bright(400 nits)but not quite as bright as my MacBook Pro (500 nits). However ,the quality of the display sometimes takes your breath away. The time to start up and shut down is very quick.Facial recognition is extremely good and quick. The touch screen is very responsive. When it on my lap sometimes it seems to get a little hotter than my MacBook Pro does, although on some YouTube videos ,it seems it actually got less hot than the new MacBook Pro,so I am not sure about my observations. It is a very well engineered and svelt machine.Overall in the month I have used it I am very happy withit.

This my first ever proper laptop, other than an Advent net book I still have from 2008! It's a shame windows just doesn't have the apps anymore for it like android does, you have to use a web browser to access a lot of things like prime video and youtube. I bought it to play games on, on my travels, boy it really heats up when it's at 100% cpu while playing games. I love the form factor, it looks very modern, premium quality. The face recognition is amazing, battery life is not that amazing. It's very lightweight and portable. The screen is deep and rich. The speakers are surprisingly good. Could've done with another usb slot. It has a headphone/earphone jack yes!

My old laptop cost half as much but needed its 3rd new hard drive in 3 years, a keyboard & a battery so I decided it was time for an upgrade. The screen is small but this improves the life of the battery, plus the resolution is pin sharp. The speakers sound incredible. There's not much memory storage but the solid state drive should prove very reliable. The processor is fast, it powers up immediately from sleep mode. The keys are backlit, although it took some googling to find the setting.

Exquisite!! This laptop is brilliant. Easy to set up, all I had to do is purchase Office 365 and I was good to go! Used for my writing, I find the touchscreen an added bonus, especially when I want to make the writing / pictures larger when writing/doing research. Thoroughly impressed. It has everything I need. Great also for apps when I just want a little break! It is speedy, good performance, typing comfort, and a pretty decent battery life and it is SO LIGHT! HIGHLY Recommended.

This laptop is incredible, i have never used a better laptop. The face recognition is top notch and very accurate and the touchscreen is responsive and easy to use. The material keyboard is really nice and soft to touch and makes the laptop feel premium (which it should at this price). There is little to no flex in the keyboard and the build quality is second to none. Would highly recommend and would choose this over a Macbook any day of the week.

At work we've moved everyone onto surface devices. All the hot desks have surface docks, so you can sit anywhere with your mobile device and have the full desktop experience. The latop 3 isn't a huge leap up from the laptop 2, but to be fair the laptop 2 was superb. What it does bring is USB C which opens up another world of docks if you think the standard surface dock is a bit pricey. Aesthetics and build quality are A1.

16.3.2020

Exactly what you would expect. Great style and screen.Be warned though that the keyboard does have some flex in the centre and is more suited to "touch typing" than hammering the keys. If you have the older docking station that plugs into the side then this does not always work properly.

A beautifully designed and built laptop, it’s like Apple have made a Windows laptop but with a touch screen. Usb-c means fast charging and being able to run an external 4k monitor are now possible. Microsoft have nailed it with this machine at a competitive price
