Metro Last Light returns you to a Moscow devastated by nuclear war. Humanity, hoping to avoid the dangerous radiation and hideous mutants plaguing the surface, has banded together in the underground metro system. Depending on how you played, Metro 2033 might have allowed you to make an important choice at the game's conclusion. Last Light assumes you chose to destroy the creatures known as The Dark Ones, scorching their home with missiles and scouring them from the face of the Earth. But a creature remains, and as returning protagonist Artyom, you must find this remnant of a race thought extinct, this remnant of a decimated species, though it's unclear whether the right decision is to destroy it or to try to communicate with it.In the confines of the metro, betrayal is common and trust is a commodity. Here, your greatest enemies are your fellow humans, who are unafraid to cheat and steal if it means gaining favour from the right people. On the brutal surface, the beasts are your primary concern; at any moment, a wailing winged demon might snatch you with its talons, soar into the air, and drop you into the murky water, far from where your horrific flight began.Exquisite craftsmanship is also on display as you seek the remaining known Dark One on the irradiated surface, and as you avoid the wandering eye of your enemies in the depths beneath. Last Light is not a power shooter. You are not out to murder hundreds of nameless grunts without breaking a sweat, and in fact, the early hours are remarkably light on action. Instead, tension is carefully built in the conversations you have with your comrades, and in the cautious steps you take into the irradiated ruins above the tunnels. You feel the danger. Gnarled trees are twisted into vaguely humanoid shapes, and when you seek refuge from the rain, you hear the drops hammering on the flimsy tin roof above, mimicking the sounds of skittering claws. The characters in the metro react to each other in authentic ways. They move about with purpose, speaking at length to each other about war and family, about love and lust. Men gone stir crazy seek the company of prostitutes, and so might you, should you desire a lengthy lap dance. Nudity occurs multiple times, and though it's certainly explicit, it doesn't seem superfluous or exploitative. Rather, Last Light's erotic themes emerge naturally from the despair, and sex in the underground has an air of desperation and urgency. If you prefer tamer pleasures, you may take in a lengthy and detailed variety show instead. You aren't required to go toe-to-toe with human opposition. You can use darkness to your advantage, twisting light bulbs and flipping circuit breakers to keep yourself hidden, and then sneaking through bases to avoid combat altogether. You can be silently murderous, sidling up behind a guard and slicing his throat, and then quietly flinging a knife into another's back. Human enemies go about their actions in realistic ways; they follow patterns, of course, but they aren't always so regimented as to seem unnatural. As a result, the stealth is fun and tense, though you can always shoot your way out of a bind if you need to.A number of creatures menace your journey across the surface. Amphibious freaks move from water to land, threatening you two or three at a time. As you manoeuvre away from their clammy assaults, you must be ever mindful of the squalid pools that surround you, lest you fall in and get dragged to your death by a mutant lurking beneath. Fierce predators pounce towards you, keeping you on the move. You use a number of weapons to fend them off, all of which look and sound appropriately powerful.Ammo isn't plentiful in the wastes, though you can get your fill from vendors in the metro's safe havens. Yet the military-grade ammo used as currency is scarce, and you're often faced with a choice to grab more ammo, purchase more grenades, or upgrade that meaty revolver you favour. It's best to scavenge for supplies and ammo in every nook-and-cranny.You must don a gas mask to stay alive, but masks require filters, which have limited life spans. You discover more filters by exploring, but exploration takes time, which means watching your available supply of healthy air slowly diminish. If you don't value each minute, the pace of your mission could suddenly change from slowly methodical to terrifyingly urgent, as you sprint towards your destination, gasping with increased desperation and hoping against hope that you might cling to life. The surface brings a tenuous visual warmth, even though the sunlight is diffused through dreary grey clouds. Metro Last Light, while beautiful, is not beautifully optimised. But even if you're forced to lower the resolution and turn off advanced physics, this ruined world is too grotesquely gorgeous not to appreciate. The air is healthier in the metro, but the dangers are no less real. You still confront misshapen mutants in the tunnels, but the darkness plays an important role. One type of creature recoils from the beam of your flashlight, eventually flipping onto its back and making itself vulnerable to your bullets. Battling several at once results in a rhythmic dance as you use your flashlight to keep your distance between you and the mutants' pincers, firing only when you do the most damage. You often find such critters in the blackest of passages - passages you aren't forced to investigate. Yet the lure of such places can be irresistible. The glow of mushrooms and the possibility of valuable ammo beckon you inwards, as does the chance of rescuing an innocent captive held hostage by the enemy factions that also lurk in the tunnels. The games astounding atmosphere fills you with dread, the tale it tells is a surprisingly touching story about loss and hope. And exploring the surface is both frightening and exciting - as the games pacing allows tension to build before the action heats-up.Metro Last Light is not an endless barrage of bullets and beasts. Last Light is notably superior to it's predecessor, merging storytelling, shooting, and sneaking into a remarkable and cohesive whole.

After completing Metro 2033, I was hooked to this franchise, and purchased Last Light on Steam. An initial complaint I had about the game soon faded away. I thought at first it was too much of a traditional FPS; bursting with ammo, strong weapons being gifted from the onset, lots of hostile men who are easily taken out with headshots, etc. But I was wrong. Several levels in, you really start to appreciate the upgraded everything to the first Metro - graphics, field of view, HUD, interface for selecting weapons and throwables by holding TAB, etc. It really is the perfect sequel to a game that set such a high standard, perhaps not graphically or with the gameplay, but with its atmosphere, the spine-tingling hair-raising screams of the monsters making you want to run as fast as you can out of the tunnel, the dark dusty underground stations, the broken dilapidated landscape of rubble, the visions, shadows, etc.Last Light improves in every single way, yet still retains this oppressive atmosphere. The monsters, or 'Nosalises', still make that 'Aorrwwwmmmmm' deep throated howl so you know when to expect there presence, green mushrooms still glow ominously in the dark, there continue to be metro stations to purchase ammo and guns. But there a wealth of additional things, more than enough to make this game very different. You experience lakes and rivers a lot in some missions, and with water comes new monsters and new dangers. Levels are a lot better laid out. There is a clear set structure to each one, i.e. the majority of the time you'll know where you're supposed to go, something people may not like, but I do, because there are still many 'secret' places to investigate, something I enjoyed on Metro 2033.There are not as many Metro stations, and certainly they are no longer treated as major checkpoints in the game. You'll be meeting other people in many different locations, and sometimes it will be a surprise to find them where they are. In Last Light, it is assumed that you have played Metro 2033 and that you've got to grips with the stealth 'blowing out lights' system, the fact that there are always rooms to explore, the preservation of bullets, etc. However, arguably it makes these things less important - enemies are actually a lot easier to kill (even though I'm on 'Hard'), stealth is a bit pathetically easy (enemies appear to be partially blind and deaf) and there are a lot more corpses giving a lot more bullets, med packs and gas mask filters (and even new gas marks). A bit of a shame. With retrospect, I perhaps should have chosen 'Ranger' mode. If you have played Metro 2033 before, 'Easy' and 'Normal' are out of question, play 'Hard' at the very least or you'll not enjoy it really. Don't hesitate, as you can change the difficulty whenever you like in the 'Settings'.Also, you'll be playing a lot in the outside world. Yep, no more prolonged close encounters with Nosalises or those smaller screaming monsters that scared me to pieces, especially with my scarce ammo in 2033. Although the Nosalises have sort of lost their scare factor, the addition of new monsters makes up for it. Absolutely no spoilers here, but the levels set near swamps and frozen lakes... let's just say, don't go near the shoreline :-). And at the first few underground levels, yes, those giant cobwebs were spun by a something, or lots of things.I won't drag on. Last Light is a really really good game, keeping what made 2033 so unique, and allowing greater flexibility for general gameplay and movement. There's no patterns to each mission, it's much more spontaneous as you progress in each mission in terms of what happens to you and where you go. It takes you on a much more exciting journey, you could say, offering so much more of the environment both inside but mostly outside. My only one disappointment is with the Stealth system. It's ludicrously favoured towards you, the player. Enemies won't see you despite appearing to be looking straight at you, even from five metres away. There's too much emphasis on lighting, in that as long as blow out or turn off lights around enemies, you're practically invisible. I have to say, I did still experience more of a thrill doing it, but it's too easy. Having said this, it's quite interesting listening to the conversations between enemies as you crouch along in the dark. My advice is, don't use stealth. Sure, you might get an achievement or something, but you'll be missing out on a lot of fun, i.e. no exploring the rooms the enemies are in, taking cover, erm, shooting(!). Guns are upgradeable, with limited but excellent upgrades, some unique to each weapon. There are a good range of them too, and enemies often drop already customised ones, saving you some MGR (the bullets used as money). There's a lot going on inside this game. A lot. More people need to play it, because it isn't well known. Please, tell you friends about it, get your brother to play it. The more support the developers get, the more resources they can pump into its sequel - the more sequels we'll get! Trust me, Metro 2033 only showed a glimpse of the environment. Last Light shows you a lot more, that you cannot help but take time to explore and appreciate. It's such a step up, I disliked it at first (2033 felt like a chore sometimes, in a good and satisfying way), but after the first couple of fairly easy levels that hardly represent what is to come (i.e. stick with it!), then you will most certainly be hooked. Also, it's a long game. Played 18 hours so far, and on final level. Includes exploring and redoing missions. Try it, please. And for 2033 players, you'll love this, I'm certain of it.

So perhaps you missed Metro 2033? Maybe you played it and delved into the ruins of post apocalyptic Moscow and the deep, dark and infested tunnels of the metro system beneath the surface? I suppose it doesn't really matter because even though Last Light continues on from the first game you can instantly dive into this offering and enjoy a very unique experience. In not so many words you are Artyom: a survivor and now a ranger. You live beneath the radiated surface of Russia, inhabiting the metro tunnels with your comrades and fellow survivors. The tunnels offer safety and refuge from the blighted surface above but the deep, eerily silent underground is home to it's own monsters....and quite a few Germans too.The story sees our hero tasked with locating a Dark One. For those not familiar with Metro or it's lore; the Dark Ones used to inhabit Russia until Artyom launched a few warheads at their nest at the end of the last game. Basically these creatures are tall, long of limb and very alien looking. When news reaches Artyom that one of the Dark Ones survived he sets out to find it...and eliminate it, despite his own conflicting emotions and guilt of pretty much wiping them out. So the journey begins.Graphically the game is wonderful and the lighting effects really make for some atmospheric exploration. Skulking through the pitch black with your flashlight and a petrol lighter really change the dynamics of your location. The tunnels take on a new menace and the shadows and reflections are really effective. Although you'll visit the wind-swept, rain drenched and highly radiated surface the most satisfying jaunt of the game is navigating the metro system. You'll come across Nazi's (bad guys), mutants that are afraid of the light and some very ghostly apparitions. I cannot really call Last Light survival horror but it certainly plays on your emotions and nerves. You have to understand that Artyoms' world is very realized and drawn out. From conversations between NPC's to the hidden notes and story-related items you find: you become immersed in the adventure and it is a terribly grim world where the true monsters are not always the arachnid horrors that lurk in the dark. You can carry three weapons, knives, grenades and you have some special kit too. There are no perks, no leveling up and nothing to distract you from the fact that ammunition is currency in the metro world. Despite only having a moderate gun selection each weapon can be modified, adding that custom-twang that we gamers so love nowadays. Grab an AK; stick a night-vision sight on it, a silencer and all of a sudden you are a predator. Light plays two roles in this game.Facing off against Human foes means destroying light sources, sneaking in for stealth kills and basically taking out a lot of bad guys with the grace of a fully trained killer. Of course you can simply run around blowing people away with a shotgun and causing as much havoc as you see fit: but really that isn't what Last Light is about. In other areas of the game you'll be relying on the light to keep you safe. Some of the monsters you face will back off if you cast your flashlight in their direction. Given that your batteries need to be recharged and generators need to be switched on to light areas up - you'll find the tension racks up to high levels as you fumble around in the dark listening intently for the sound of multi-legged horrors with sharp fangs.Even though Metro is something of a linear game there are still side areas waiting to be explored. It's during these moments outside of following your goals that Artyom comes across another kind of terror.I need to just clarify that this game does not use jumpy bits to scare you. Oh no. The developers have gone beyond that and added "don't blink or you'll miss it" moments. For example you are scavenging for ammo and weapons. Quite common considering the higher difficulty settings severely reduce supplies and every bullet counts. Remember that.So you are wandering through some burnt out buildings and ruined offices when suddenly you catch a flicker of movement just at the edge of your vision. You look but there is nothing there. But take a step back, look again and you'll see a shadowy outline of a person. Yes a ghostly shadow is standing right infront of you and to be honest if you add a combination of excellent game sound and effects, deserted locations filled with the dead and a flashlight for company these encounters will make your spine tingle. Very effective. The more you accustom yourself to Last Light the more these encounters and their meaning become background scenery. Bad things have happened and perhaps the ghosts of the past still feel the need to haunt the ruined Earth that they once loved? Either way you'll accept the world and how things are. There are so many great things about Last Light that will grab the attention of the mature audience. This is not COD and it certainly is not a typical run and gun experience. It's a very touching tale that will sit with you long after the end credits have rolled. It's such a step up from the last game and hard to fault. Currently the game is £29.99 and worth every penny. If you want something more than a typical FPS affair then this game is a must play. It deserves to sit alongside the likes of Bioshock for the simple fact that it's world and politics are fully realized and believable. I hope I never live to see a nuclear war......

2034, post-apocalyptic Moscow. A year has passed since the Spartan Rangers discovered and occupied the D6 bunker, making them one of the powerhouses of the Metro. Artyom is now a respected ranger, but is haunted by his decision to nuke the mysterious 'Dark Ones'. When word arrives of a Dark One infant that survived the cataclysm, Artyom sets out to rescue the creature and atone for his actions. Along the way, he discovers that one of the other factions in the Metro has discovered a secret weapon that could turn the tide of power amongst the survivors forever.Metro: Last Light is the sequel to Metro 2033, picking up where that game left off and building on its storylines and characters.Last Light is pretty unforgiving to those who haven't played the first game, not bothering with backstory or exposition, so I recommend that players either pick up the first game before this one, or make full use of online plot summaries to get them up to speed. As before, this is a first-person shooter which alternates combat with exploration and survival elements. Combat is great fun and enhanced this time around by the addition of better stealth mechanics: Artyom can knife opponents from the shadows or knock them out if he can sneak up behind them. Given a fairly frugal approach to ammo in the game (although it's not as punishingly stingy as the first game), conserving firepower and resorting to stealth rapidly becomes the first choice in every situation. Stealth is even more important when fighting the game's mutated wildlife, who can't be stealth-killed but can be avoided by hugging the shadows and extinguishing light sources. The survival element comes in the form of the handy gas mask, which is necessary to survive on the surface and exposed parts of the underground. The mask's filters need to be changed on a regular basis and it can get covered in debris, gunk from exploded enemies and water quite easily, forcing you to wipe it clean. This is fine in general exploration, but mid-combat it can add a panicky moment of blindness which adds to the chaos of combat. The survival element is tremendously enhanced by the impressive visuals and the bleak, lonely atmosphere. Metro: Last Light does atmosphere better than almost any other FPS game I've played. The moments of bleakness are counterbalanced by the towns (former Metro stations that have been taken over as habitations for survivors), which are bright, warmer and packed with people. The towns are a good place to chill out and restock on supplies before heading out. Unfortunately, as with the first game, they are essentially just shops with only modest improvements in giving you more to do (though a couple of optional missions can be found, along with a dubious strip club and a shooting range mini-game). The towns are crying out for more development, and as with the recent BioShock Infinite there is a feeling that maybe this would have been a stronger game if it had been more of an RPG than a FPS.Still, an FPS it is and a good one at that. Making the linear corridor FPS (which is what Last Light is, apart from a couple of enormous arena-like outdoor areas where you have more freedom to choose what approach to take next) compelling and interesting is difficult, but 4A Games has managed it by giving the game a sense of place and atmosphere that is second to none. The limited nature of the genre means that you can't explore the people and places as much as you might want to, but through overhead dialogue, some excellent art design and Artyom's own notes, they successfully engross the player in this strange world.Voice-acting is good and characterisation is fairly strong, although a romance with another character does kind of come out of nowhere. Whilst you spend a good chunk of the game going solo, you also team up with other characters for chunks of it, and they manage to be effective aids in combat without hogging the limelight. One character 'buffs' you by providing you with intelligence on enemy positions and numbers rather than fighting outright, which is a great idea that the game executes well.Metro: Last Light (****½) is an improvement on its predecessor in almost every department: it's slightly longer, with more impressive graphics, more satisfying combat, vastly superior stealth and a more interesting storyline. On the minus front, it does feel very reminiscent of its forebear, more the second half of the same game rather than a sequel, and arguably the game makes a few too many concessions to the mainstream, with more plentiful ammo and supplies meaning less moments of nerve-shredding terror. Still, it's a bleak, atmospheric and gripping game.

Firstly I would like to say that the first game 'Metro 2033' was flawed gem among the titles of 2010. The world we explore is actually originally from the 'Metro Series' primarily written by Dmitry Glukhovsky. This world is about as dark and adult as they come. Trust me Fallout seems positively brimming with life and sunny enthusiasm compared to the stories that Glukhovsky wrote.Back to the game: We start Last light with the friendly silent protaganist Artyum from the last game. Freshly traumatised from his experience from the last game. We follow him trough his trials as he attempts to redeem himself. It can get pretty dark at some points and some of its developers dont seem to have been worried wit shocking subjects paticually as to what happens to children in the metro.Seriously folks; this is NOT a game for children.Gameplay wise its pretty standard apart from Artyum assortment of cobbled together guns and accoutrements such as his torch which comes with a kinectic battery which has to be cranked to recharge. Bullets, like in the last game come in to kinds. Normal crappy, cobbled together bullets which will be your primary ammo for the game, and Military grade bullets. These also serve as the currency for the game which works surprisingly well as you find yourself low on ammo and a mutant bearing down on you. Do you try and kill it with your knife, possibly dooming yourself. Or do you kill it with the ammo that could also buy you a refill for your next jount outside the metro.Soundwise; Its Brilliant. From the "drip, drip, drip" of those lonely tunnels, to the chatter of the populated hubs and the satisfying click of a clip of ammo slotting into place, Last Light's sound design is fantastic.Grapicly speaking, this game is also topnotch, Its easily shaulder to shaulder with Crysis 3 and Halo4. The game is Regularly beautiful, in a deeply grim and depressing way, Metro: Last Light's visuals are let down by screen tearing and frame rate issues. So far, no patches have been made to fix it but it's easily forgivable as the detail is almost insane in some parts in the game. Also I should point out that this game is very CPU intensive and will chug on most middling gaming PC's. Even my two titans had a good workout after this game. Though the game definately needs a Rig that can make it strech and cut loose, it doesnt do too bad job running on something less powerful and the 360 version, minus the pretty bad FOV does a really good job of keeping up.The only problem the game suffers from which damages the score in my opinion is its insistance on you 'FOLLOWING THE MAN'. This is, of course the case for most of the modern shooters out there and compared to them, Metro is probably the best, your companion always is fun to listen to and dispite the iffy voice acting at times as Russian voice actors try to do the English voices also, its not to bad however. The game, as an RPG also suffers as dispite its many reasons for you to stray off the beaten path. It never feels like you find anything except more mutants or ammo. A few side missions would difinately have been welcome. In conclusion: Metro: Last light is definately a contender for GOTY. The game oozes atmosphere and intensity. It's also a breath of fresh air to play a game that isnt set on the usual set of generic spots e.g. America, Alien planet, Alien ship etc.If you enjoy a good yarn about the world going to hell and dont mind some truly graphics content (Boobs are also in it which I must admit does seem a little forced and silly). This for most gamers, should be a must own.

Having played Metro 2033 on the PC and recently purchasing an Xbox 360 I decided to give this game a go. It arrived quickly and as always with Amazon, well packaged. As a first person shoot-'em-up it's one of the best I've played in terms of actual game play. Switching between weapons is quick and smooth and camera movements flow nicely. The story is engaging and I love that no matter how much you mod a gun there are still some monsters you'll have to slug away at and actually play tactfully against rather than just run in all guns blazing and hope to survive through sheer brutality. This game is very atmospheric with little to no music, just the echoes of water dripping in tunnels, the whisper of wind through dry grass and the crunch of snow used cleverly to set the mood in places. The use of light and dark is great too, with shifting shadows that make for a worrying trip if your torch runs out of power. The jump scares are well timed too. Far too often I'll play a game knowing exactly when the game is going to throw something out of a shadow in an attempt to scare me but not this time. The atmosphere is very well crafted. However, I do take issue with a few things. Mainly, the cinematic element of the game. It feels at times as though the developers wanted to create a film and not a game. While this makes for some interesting narrative (based on the books no doubt) and some very visually pleasing scenes it can get irritating when you just want to move forward in the story.Secondly, each area is very limited with a set destination and a few triggers on the way. There's little chance for exploration which would have been nice in such an unusual game with some really very nice artwork going on in the environments. The loading screens between areas and chapters are another issue. They're boring despite the narratives which often cant be skipped,Lastly, my copy has a very annoying habit of freezing every now and then. It doesn't happen often enough to warrant sending it back but no one enjoys having a game freeze up completely during a tough fight, especially when you cant save between check points (which is in itself, feels outdated)!Overall I did enjoy this game. Its very different in both its story and its play but it is not without it's issues.

Metro: Last LightMetro Last Light is a first person shooter game developed by a Ukrainian team called 4A Games, set in the Metro system and surrounding areas of Moscow in the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust. In the game you play as a man called Artyom, a ranger, which seems to mean his pretty useful when it comes to surviving and fighting against humans or the monsters of the Metro.Metro Last Light is more than just a video game, it pulls you in to the World of the metro, it's an involving experience where you instantly get the feel that the games is going to be an exciting and prestigious journey. The atmosphere in this game is absolutely breathtaking, there's a lot of suspense and most of the time you are the one being prayed upon as you make your way though Moscow.I really liked the gas mask mechanics, it adds another aspect of panic to the game.Metro Last Light feels solid, everything about this game feels like it's been thought about, loved and injected with passion. The graphics are beautiful, lighting effects work perfectly, weapons and player models look polished. The landscapes look astonishing, tunnels are frighting, eerie and the populated locations are packed with eye candy. The levels are well thought about, you have multiple routes on which you can take which means even though some of the levels aren't very big, it never feels linear or at least it never did to me.The Inside levels have this great Russian industrial feel about them and the outside levels have this unforgiving landscape where you feel lost and alone. The scripted events were so well done, a moment of silence and then all hell breaks loose. The weapons of Metro Last light are pleasing to use, they feel precise and refined. There are enough different weapons in this game to keep you going to the end and the all the weapons in this game feel viable and balanced throughout the game. The AI in Metro Last Light are also superb, humans and monsters are a challenge, they will search to the ends of the earth to find you if you're spotted and kill you in seconds once found.Metro Last Light is one of the best video games that I have ever played, it's on par with the likes of Half life, Metal Gear Solid, Borderlands, Shenmue, and Dota2.10/10.

Metro Last Light and the first game Metro 2033, like The Darkness, are wonderful little gems many may not have heard of or decided to purchase due to mainstream titles taking the spot light. Yet this game far surpasses call of duty and battlefield with what it delivers. The storyline is authentic and keeps you entertained, with twists and such (the whole game is set in a grim post apocalyptic Russia, both in underground metro cities, dark dilapidated places and the baron surface, the game taken from the novel of the same name) it doesn't fail to give a realistic insight into the after effects of nuclear war.The weapons are customizable and there's a good few, all fairly unique. There's equipment and containers/bodies can be looted. Lights etc can be interacted with. The AI is almost spot on (aside from not reacting always to fellow dead enemies, though could be dependent on light)The visuals are quite lovely, really creating a gritty dark world where light can be a biggest ally or permanent threat. For me the games biggest feat is the horror and atmosphere it manages to create. The claustrophobia and tension as you slowly walk through toxic water surrounded by odd growths that pulsate and split open with creatures, getting bogged down by a mass of webs as your lighter turns them into embers, then hearing something behind you or scurry across the ceiling. Your breathing becomes heavier and condensation on the visor as you run low on oxygen and must change the filter. A creature then darts towards you as you unload your double barrel into it, it's body contorting through the air as blood smears your visor, you press LB to wipe it clear and continue forward through the dark. Hoping your flashlight has enough charge until you're at least in the clear. The good storyline and convincing voice talent it dialog is also much welcomed.Though it helps to have played the first game, I'd definitely recommend this game, it was worth the money. How IGN can give band wagon games like Halo 4 and COD almost a 10/10 and this game a 7.2... well you can't spell ignorance without IGN.

Was a big fan of the first game (enough that I sought out and read the great novel its based on, wish they'd hurry up and translate the sequels!!!) despite finding it really clunky and frustrating in places. The fairly unique atmosphere and commitment to the bleak tone totally carried it even when the combat was ropey and the level design obtuse. Funnily enough, pretty much all the same feelings apply to the sequel. It's a bad game in places - signposting could be confusing leading to sections where I couldn't quite work out what it wanted from me, it had a tendency to throw me into situations where I just didn't have enough ammo for what it was throwing at me,and any confrontations with the mutated monster enemies felt pretty slapdash (occasionally all of these things would combine and rage-quitting looked like an option).BUT again, the atmosphere is fantastic, the art direction is lovely (it's a very nice looking game) and the story and setting are so different to anything else out there that the occasional annoyance gets forgotten as you get lost in the good stuff. Getting into firefights with unconvincingly animated monsters might feel weak, but man, stealth-killing your way through a station-full of fascists feels fantastically satisfying, pushing similar buttons to Far Cry 3's outposts. More focus in that direction and less fights in dark caves with spammy monsters and this would have been a 5-star review, but as it is the game is easily worth a high recommendation and is so different to your average shooter that despite any intermittent clunkiness I'd still rather play this than a dozen CoDs.

I love a dark apocalyptic future and after Gareth had filled me in about the novel by Dmitry I couldn't wait to get my hands this game. After all when you have dark, dingy, claustrophic tunnels, and open air environments that leave you feeling vulnerable, then it's a game that brings the atmosphere to the max for the gamer.Add to this a rarity of ammo that will leave you carefully choosing the weaponry that suits your gameplay style to maximise its usage alongside making sure you have enough air filters to survive the toxic areas and all round it's a game that will haunt you long after you switch off the console. (To make the most of this I played it late at night in the dark whilst wrapped in my duvet.)The graphics are solid, the sound effects have the player keenly listening to the background for early warning signs of impending attack and when added to vocal talent that really takes you deep into the game all round made this a cracking experience for me as a player.Throw into this a twisted double dealing plot, the chance for the player to put something right that the protagonist did wrong in the past alongside never truly knowing who you're allies are all round made this a great experience for me as a gamer. I'll definitely play through again soon just as soon as my dreams return to normal. Great stuff.

I could not give this game more praise it basically throws you into the underground and you should be immersed immediately... eavesdropping on conversations and getting some interesting gossip, yet a minor thing "gossip" it's just one of the many things that I think make this game fantastic. You progress deeper into the tunnels and if a conflict seems likely ahead you can stick to the shadows and cut throats/knock the unsuspecting victim unconscious... the stealth felt very satisfying as did looting the downed foe of anything of value... not a stealth type? Not to worry you can go gung-ho on human enemies and that approach is also satisfying, guns feel authentic as do the physics AI is pretty good at reacting to your attacks too, they'll fire random suppressive fire at times, in the location you were spotted by them. Some areas of humanity holding onto their last civilised hopes and survival instincts are beautiful as opposed to some tunnels and surface areas (Not in a bad way!) Tunnels feel claustrophobic and at times tense, very intense if you're low on ammo and you're hearing strange sounds. I could write so much since I absolutely love this game! Definitely recommend it!

If you have played metro 2033 and weren't particularly happy with what you got and you don't think this will be as good then your wrong, the shooting is great and the sneaking seems very realistic, some small features that I enjoyed were things like; throwing a throwing knife: I played on hard core so I didn't have any cursor on the screen and it felt very lifelike plus you love the feeling of throwing a knife in their neck, back or chest, the story I thought was PHENOMENAL: you play as artyom and you have to catch the last baby dark one but as the story progresses you learn to befriend him an that their is a twist that you 2 aren't too different after all,BEWARE THOUGH CHOOSE YOUR DIFFICULTY WISELY BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH I COMPLETED IT I FOUND I RAN OUT OF AMMO ALL TOO OFTEN and on the boss parts of the level and I was playing on hardcore but not the highest levelWould Definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys post-apocalyptic games with dark fast paced situations and low ammo and health situations.*****< great game hope this helped

so after the abismal failure that was metro 2033, i was sceptical about buying this game to say the least. as it turns out its a complete overhaul of their previous game.bettetr hit detectionbetter stealtheasier weapon managementbetter HUDbetter inventory managementbetter graphicsbetter gameplaybetter enemies.the only real problem i found, that has affected a lot of people is, the achievement for going the whole game without killing a human enemy, this is glithced for a lot of people, and it glitched for me. i was very carefull not to kill humans, if i thought i did, i would restart my last save, but at the end of the game it didnt work. to compensate for this,if you go to your xbox memory and delete the site preferences for metro LL, then complete just the last level without killing any enemies except the very last human boss character, the achievement will unlock.because of this glitch i can only rate it a 4star instead of a 5, but this is a cracking game. the upcoming dlc is sure to add more fun and intrigue.

I loved the first Metro and all the STALKER games. This game is a cross between both. The gunplay has been improved and the graphics are amazing. In fact the graphics are so good that they look real life. The physx is optimised well and plays very smooth. I turn SSAA off as it completely kills frame rates for very little, if any benefit and that's with a GTX 690. The story is a continuation from the first game and is great IMO. The music score and sound effects do an excellent job of putting you in the atmosphere of the Metro which very few games can achieve, I found it very daunting and scary at times. My only criticism is that I wish it was an open sandbox game like STALKER as the art design is so damn good that it lends itself for exploration - however it is still a great game.In fact you can only imagine what STALKER 2 could be like if they were to make it today. Metro Last Light is one of the best shooters I've ever played!
