MOW for me remains the go to series for those who want a proper war strategy game. It does away with life bars and replaces it with ballistics, material and damage. It can best be described as the the more technical version of Company of heroes.First off lets get to the advances from MOW Assault squad 1.In terms of interface it is almost exactly the same as AS1 with the addition of new squad control feature that makes it easy to group men. It has also seen a gloss over on the controls, leaving more hot keys and short cuts to moving troops around objectives quicker. However there is no major overhaul and the game plays exactly as its predecessor. Some may call it a lazy form of development but if it isn't broke.......Gameplay is slighter faster and smother, they've added more animation to troops and the interact quicker for a faster pace game.Guns and tanks have had a boost in killing power especially the mg nests which are now particularly lethal to infantry.Tanks are particularity dangerous if allowed to roam with their high firepower damage. The most welcome addition is the changing scenarios introduced which really helped to reduce the repetition that dogged the first game. Although game still needs to take steps in bringing more variety and historical accuracy to the campaigns (i.e. geographical accuracies based on landscape, terrain, force differences and weather) to each particular battle. AS2 is making steps in the right direction with this. What AS2 lacks in variety it makes up in tons of mods. The greatest part of this game is that there are scores of dedicated developers who are supporting the game by making mods of single, co-op or multiplayer scenarios. This means you do have the variety of scenarios and different themed missions (such as the excellent last man standing map) that add endless hours of varying challenges. This for me is how I think true games like this should progress, the game developers create a world of absolute realism, massive unit lore and fluid animation. Then the dedicated community is encouraged to place their own scenarios, ideas and map designs. This synergy is what makes me nominate AS2 as the one of the best but yet most underrated strategy game their is

This is a great game, very enjoyable when you get in to it. It reminds me a lot of World in Conflict which was superb, the latter being set in a fictional future whereas this one is based (loosely) around real battles in WWII.My only gripe is that the interface takes a bit of getting used to and it's not always obvious what you can do - there are lots of hotkeys that can help but it's hard to know what they are - mostly I've picked things up by trial and error - the onscreen HUDs are confusing to say the least.I have found the mouse actions to be a bit confusing too, sometimes you have to left-click other times right, it just gets a bit confusing and ends up in errors usually at a critical time.A better tutorial would have been good to pick out some of the key points - for instance it took me ages to realise that my men were running out of ammo and I had to get them back to a supply truck to refill or scavenge from dead soldiers. There are hints that appear during loading but there is so much depth to the game that they don't really cover enough. The graphics are pretty good but sometimes it is hard to distinguish things and sometimes the unit selection can be a bit hit and miss. It's also difficult to determine which vehicles are truly disabled or not on both sides.Overall this is a good game though, and I really like the fact that you can save at any point and it will resume exactly where you left off, which is really handy for just squeezing in a quick session.

This is the perfected version of Men of War and although very similar to Assault Squad 1, is now the only way to play online since gamespy died. The game is more balanced than other and the special points/units make for some fun turnaround points in online games.Recently there were some major updates which bugged the hell out of the game and killed the playerbase as it became almost unplayable online. Thankfully they have been sending out weekly patches, sometimes twice a week for the last month and it is now stable again.Only two things I will warn you about:1) if you are new to the game, expect to be chewed up unless against other newbies.......very steep learning curve2)it really does help to either have some historical knowledge of the ww2 units and their effectiveness or a friend that can brief/run you through faction units so you know what works against what.....saves you a lot trial and errorbut most of all...its countless fun and no two games will ever be the same because of the variety of units and players. Between this game and the original men of war, I have about 1500games and I still keep coming back daily after years and years. Cant recommend enough!

A amazing game based on WW2, with so much strategy needed during battle you will wonder if you will ever get out alive, it's not 100% hard that's for sure but it will test your mind and skill that's for sure. With classic units from the war this has more to it, fire at a building and it will blow up, destroy a tank and it can blow up even a while after you've hit it

What an amazing game, pure joy and many hours spent. Multiplayer is endless fun with the UK and Japan being my favourite nations to play. So many tanks, and troops to pick from means every battle is different.

Good, but doesn't come with skirmish option. Will need to get the DLC Airbourne from Steam for AI skirmish addition
