All things considered this is a really great tripod as the title of my review points out - but there are a few negatives, so let's get those out of the way first. At £150 it's not really what you call cheap compared to other options that are out there, but I have seen tripods that don't do as much as this which are more expensive so I guess it might be argued that it's 'reasonably-priced', but it's still quite expensive. The plate to mount the camera to the tripod is OK - it can be quite fiddly to fit when you're out in the middle of nowhere in the dark and sometimes you need to double check that it is actually mounted. There are two pins that stop the camera sliding off the tripod if you tilt the head too far forward and if the camera is not securely mounted, but really I'd just make sure you're careful or use a neckstrap if you're concerned about that. It comes supplied with an Allen Key to secure the plate to the bottom of the camera. This has advantages and disadvantages, the advantage is you can really tightly screw the plate to the camera so it's more secure than a screw that you can twist with your fingers, but the disadvantage is if you lose that Allen Key or forget to take it with you then you're not completely out of luck because you can actually tighten the screw yourself without the key, but it's nowhere near as tight. Now let's talk about the positives. Firstly, this tripod is so versatile. Not only is it a tripod which can stand pretty high at 61.6" (just over 5ft) but it's also a monopod that can stand just about as tall. I owned a Manfrotto monopod not long ago that was as tall as this or maybe only slightly taller when this is a monopod. This is great for somebody like me who wants a tripod for doing night photography with, but also a monopod for use with a large zoom lens like a 500mm. Now we only have to buy one product! The monopod is made up by unscrewing one of the legs and then attaching it to the centre column which can be unscrewed from the tripod body. The tripod is probably not the most stable tripod on the market, but by no means will a breath of wind knock it over. The locks on the legs can be a little confusing to operate at first but it soon becomes almost second nature, they are obviously essential for keeping the legs at the same angles but if you want each leg to be at a different angle then you can. If you own a professional-grade D-SLR and some heavy lenses don't worry because this tripod can support them. It takes my D500 with the grip and a 17-50mm f/2.8 attached with no problem. I'd quite happily sit a D5 or something as heavy as that on this. It feels well-made and sturdy - a real quality product - but also light enough and small enough (when folded) to carry with you wherever you go. You can see how small this folds compared to a cheap Hahnel Triad 30 Lite in my photos. The Hahnel is not a tall tripod, this is probably taller, but it folds down so small compared to it! If you have a large camera bag it can probably fit inside it, if not you can almost certainly attach it to the front of your bag without any problem. It comes in a really nice carrying case anyway which has a zipped pocket inside it which you can use to store the Allen Key and included printed instructions.Mine's metallic blue and it looks absolutely gorgeous. It's nice to see a tripod that comes in a range of colours, too many are black or grey so it's great to see some colours for a change! This blue one so happened to be cheaper than the other colours and really looks the part - not that it really matters but I just love the style of these tripods. So all in all if you need a professional-grade tripod for your professional-grade camera and lenses that's small and light to carry, two products in one and looks stunning, this is the tripod for you!

As an amateur photographer who has been moving from an DSLR system to a micro 4/3 system over the past 18 months due to trying to save weight but keep photo quality, I have been looking for a good tripod that would be compact and light but sturdy enough for my Panasonic GH3. I needed something that was easy to take while travelling abroad (put in suitcase or hand luggage) and was also easy to carry round all day long while walking.I spent a lot of time researching possible options before buying this tripod and I believe I have made the right choice. The tripod is compact when folded. Once opened up it is very sturdy and is very easy to use. It also has a quality feel about it and is really well built.I would say the main points are:- Compact and easy to carry, the folded height is around 15 inches and the case is excellent.- Sturdy once unfolded with my Panasonic GH3 (or G6) with a variety of lenses. I have also use it with a Canon 60d with 70-300mm lens and it feels just as stable. If the wind gets stronger I would avoid using the smaller extensions on the legs (but that can be the same with lots of tripods).- I really like the ball head and the way it adjusts. I have an older Giottos tripod with a Manfrotto 468MG Hydrostatic head and the Mefoto head is almost as easy to use.- The ability to turn it into a monopod is useful and saves taking away another piece of equipment while travelling.- Operating height is fine (I am 6 feet) and have found no issue using it. It can extend from 15 inches to 5 feet 4 inches.I used this tripod extensively while on a 2 day photo trip around Dorset at the end of March, I took photos inland, on the coast (mounted on rocks and beach) and I think it is perfect for what I needed. In short if you are looking for a travel tripod that is compact and yet sturdy once in use I would recommend the Mefoto Roadtrip. I bought the Red one and I think it looks great as well.

After much nerding around the net and despite my bias/loyalty to Manfrotto, I took the plunge on the Mefoto and am very, very pleased with it.Beautifully thought out and designed with engineering to match. Eloquently simple. Having used Manfrotto forever I was concerned about the Twist Lock legs and centre column but they work really well with a firm response and no need for excessive tightening. The ball head is similarly engineered with similar response and the added touch of a small adjuster for friction allowing for smooth movement. Ditto the panning/ tracking control.I would have preferred the simplicity of a screw in hook à la Cullman but the advantage in the Mefoto is that it's always there and you won't forget it,except that it needs to be removed to assemble the monopod. The only design criticism I can come up with. The only compromise for me is not being able to set the centre column horizontally, (which has always been a great bit of thinking by Manfrotto) but, with various arrangements of leg angles you can find a way aroundThe price is on the high side but the simplicity and quality absolutely justify that and are, for me (retired technician), very reassuringAs a travel tripod, it is of course a compromise and you can expect a slight flexing that would benefit from the weight of a camera bag if you're on a pebble beach on a windy day and, I would always use the solidity of the frotto 190 Xprob for real macro work or those Landscapes where you've been waiting forever for the right light or weather.Otherwise, the Mefoto is a joy and a huge relief for my aging back and herniated discs!I don't hesitate in recommending it. A high quality bit of kit.

I have a Sony mirrorless A7ii camera and a selection of legacy lenses from 17mm up to 400mm. I bought both the RoadTrip and the GlobeTrotter MeFoto tripods. On paper, the GlobeTrotter isn't all that much bigger - and so I was surprised at how much smaller/lighter the RoadTrip actually *feels* in the hands. The RoadTrip is well able to hold my Sony A7, with a 400mm lens, using the lens tripod mount. The ball head is solid and able to hold that setup without any slipping. Everything is well lubricated, nice to the touch and and feels nice to twist and turn. The panning is smooth and feels really professional to me.The legs are easily able to hold the weight and would hold more,I reckon: it would hold a SLR camera with a moderate size lens I think. I sent the Globetrotter back because this RoadTrip is a little smaller, a little lighter, fits into its case nicely and is more than enough for my needs. This is a perfect little tripod. If you have a heavy SLR and like to use long, fast lenses, then the GlobeTrotter would be a better bet for a portable tripod - but that's not a comment based on actual experience of that setup. (You're also likely to have a bigger budget and will be looking at a more expensive market of tripods!) But for a smaller setup, like mine, this is proven perfect. It's small, stable, has a good quick-release plate, extends high enough, is able to hold a moderate weight and is easy to carry.Great value!

I tried this tripod on the weekend for some night shots and I am very happy. I used a Canon 60D with a standard 18-55mm lens and it was fine. I would feel confident using a longer lens but haven't had a chance yet.A few things about the item...- The tripod feels sturdy and solid, I managed to take sharp pictures in a windy area without issue. The legs are very adjustable and a very good height. I am 5 foot 11 and the range of height was perfect.- It is quick and easy to extend and lock the legs, and the design gives you confidence in the support it gives your camera.- It comes with an excellent case, which I put over my shoulder and it doesn't feel heavy or cumbersome.I also had the zip facing down and could easily remove the tripod from the case without even taking it off my back.- It is a good size when folded and I think it would be easy to fit into a cabin suitcase (as long as you don't have excessive amounts of clothes)- It has a monopod option, although I haven't tried that yet. I am confident it will be excellent. All in all, I would highly recommend.

The RoadTrip is good to use (so far) fits inside my bag, a Lowepro Pro Runner 350 AW, just, with five lenses (including a 135mm), body, filters, 15' rMPB and all the other stuff that goes with that, so I can bring it as carry on luggage if needed. That was the deciding factor between it and the Globetrotter. It clicks on the outside if I have a larger tele lens in the bag but it's not much taller than the bag when folded up.The tripod is fairly solid and quite light, it's easy to use and holds camera with grip and lens easily. The twist grips on the legs are easy and quick to operate & holding up the camera high in the air on the monopod leg makes for interesting shots, used wi-fi app for live view shooting, handy. I'm six foot tall and with the camera on (minus grip) I'm not breaking/bending my back to look straight into the viewfinder when the tripod is fully up. The panning head is also nice and smooth to use for you video people out there. On balance for the folded size and weight versus price, MeFoto have a great product.

I have a full size 055 Manfrotto tripod which is large and heavy and wanted a travel tripod. Chose this one based on reviews and have not been disappointed. It is high enough - I am 5'10.The legs extend quickly as you can undo all 4 sections at once. The legs are very sturdy. I have used it in windy conditions and for very long outdoor exposures and have got very sharp results every time without having to hang extra weight on the centre section - which is an option.I have used the monopod option with a heavy Nikon 300mm 2.8 on my D810 without issue. It is small and fits easily onto my travel backpack and even fits in my city bag.The only issue is the Ball head. Nothing wrong with this one in particular, nor nothing special. Its just that ball heads move slightly when you tighten them and this can be a pain. However, everything is standard size so you can easily fit a different type of head.So overall, mine has done thousands of miles and been extensively used and if I lost it I would by an identical replacement.

I bought this because the tripod i have been using for the past two years (manfrotto xprob 055) was just too big. I travel quite a bit also, it was horrible lugging it around in 40+degree heat. So i saw this, a few months of research and it seemed perfect. However, the the only niggle i had at the time was the pictures on the net made the legs, especially the llast sections, look really thin and weak. Yes they are thin, compared with my manny and it isn't as sturdy, but it is VERY study still. Since buying this i havnt taken the manny out on any expeditions because this is soooo more compact! I use this with a Pentax k5iis and a variety of lenses and also a canon 1Dsmkii with a 120-300mm (heavy setup, nearing 5kg) and a 17-35mm. So this can take some wheight. The head on this is great too. Sooooooooo smooth!! I looove this thiing :D If you're thinking of getting it, get it. You will NOT regret it!!

I found one of these at Fixation in Kennington London. Great store by the way...for anything photo related. I was initially looking at the Manfrotto B 3 after seeing one on a field trip but the Me Foto (name is pants isn't it?..but who am I to complain when See Me Photography is my business)..is by far the better tripod. It goes taller, has a fantastic ball head with Sinar type attachment for anyone with a plate that fits this (Fuji X Pro 1 grip has it inbuilt by some manufacturers) which allows very rapid attachment of cameras. The whole tripod is very well made.. spirit level, varying ball head pressure settings.. lockable legs. Anyone who wants a small to carry but DSLR bearing tripod need look no further..It comes in a range of fruity colours .I chose red which looks smart and somehow more positive than all black (purely subjective of course).

It's a nice tripod and the ballhead does a good job of supporting weight even when it's unbalanced - I'm using it on a telescope which has a mounting point quite far from its center of gravity (because the eyepieces I use are heavier than the stock ones it came with), but the locking knobs and drag control knob do a good job of managing it without slipping. Nice precision feel, at least compared to cheaper tripods I've used (I have no experience of really high end tripods). Missing one star because it came without instructions which I'm sure it should have come with - maybe it was a customer return repackaged? - but I did manage to download them from the web.

The quality of this tripod is amazing. Really sturdy design, that folds down into a ultra-portable size that's more than suitable for stuffing in a day sack or hold-all bag. The ball head is super-smooth and the option to remove a leg and use as a monopod is a great idea. You're essentially getting two amazing products for the price of one, and a great price at that!It provides a sturdy base for my mirror-less setup, with no movement even when testing in wind. I imagine it can take quite a bit more weight.Well recommended if you're looking for a sturdy, long-lasting tripod that's suitable for travelling with!

Having recently upgraded to an SLR. The old cheap n cheerful from J*****s no longer cut the mustard. This is a very impressive piece of kit, beautifully engineered and finished and extremely versatile. It's very compact when folded away in it's bag, not too heavy and the ability to use one leg as a monopod is a real bonus. The ball head works very well and supports my Sony SLT-A77 and 55-300mm Telephoto in position very solidly.A professional might turn their nose up but for an enthusiastic amateur like me it's an outstanding piece of kit. Highly recommended

After doing extensive research and reading many positive reviews I finally bought this tripod and I have not regretted it.PROS:This tripod is very stable, which is perfect for night photography and time-lapses.Very compact and easy to unfold. It comes with a padded carry case, which is useful for travel.Relatively lightweight.Nice design with a premium feelCONS:The controls can be a bit fiddly, but I got used to them within the first 2 days of usage. This is the best tripod I have ever owned and used. Highly recommended for travel and general use.

The MeFoto RoadTrip Convertible Tripod Kit with 5 Section Aluminium Legs is not cheap, but it is very well made and stable enough for a DSLR with moderate lens in use. The head has quite a smooth action to its adjustments considering it is so compact. It is a tripod that I will be carrying with me more as the weight and size is so small that it is not the burden that a larger/heavier tripod brings with it.Overall this tripod is just right for the job and I would fully recommend for any traveller that needs good support.

I needed a travel tripod and read a "Gear Super Test" in Photo Plus and the Road Trip A1350Q1 was "Best on Test". However, I could not find a stockist were I could actually see the tripod before deciding to purchase.I took the chance and ordered the tripod from Amazon and I have to say the tripod exceeds all my expectations.Made by Benro, it is superbly made and is cable of not only accommodating my Olympus OMD EM-1, but will accept my Canon EOS 1D Mk3 with telephoto. I can highly recommend this tripod. Very pleased.
