MCCULLOCH HT5622 PETROL HEDGE TRIMMERI use hedge trimmers regularly and have done for a few years now so it was handy to try this petrol unit. This petrol trimmer is more positive than electric versions and without the restrictive cable. This is especially important with garden cutting machines to reduce the possibility of potential accidents. This machine has plenty of power for the job in hand at 0.22cc (which is comparable with many similar priced machines) and a decent cutting blade length at 56cms. Blades are extremely sharp and the cutting action neat which makes for a smart cut. It runs on a 50/1 two stroke mixture and although it didn’t come with a mixing bottle, I already had one for my petrol strimmer. For the first time purchaser, this is a little disappointing. There is no reason really why a mixing bottle could not be included in the package. OK if you already have one but until the box is opened, you don't know it's not included and that might just delay use. Amazon offer two packages for the HT5622 – one with just the machine and a second which includes safety glasses, mixer bottle and a bottle of two stroke oil for an extra £26.Weight-wise it’s on a par with other similar trimmers of its type tipping the scales at a tadge over 5 kilos and generally speaking it’s pretty easy to handle. The handles are comfy and the weight is spread reasonably well to make operation easy. It comes with a protective plastic sleeve to cover the sharp edges for when the machine is not in use.Since hedge trimming requires both vertical and horizontal cuts, the HT5622 has a really useful feature in that the handle can be turned temporarily to allow prolonged use on its side for the vertical cuts. Obviously this depends on the type of hedges you are working on but often there is more vertical work than horizontal. The trimmer is very straightforward to start; certainly easier than other similar machines I’ve used in the past and the choke always helps for a cold start. The soft start feature on the recoil helps and makes starting easy. The on-off switch is protected inside a rubber case and although the rubber fuel pump pod is tricky to get into for those with larger hands, once you get going it gets through the work quickly. Vibration is kept to a minimum (by design) and should not cause any issues in use.The air filter requires no tools for access which is handy as the manufacturer recommends cleaning at least every 5 hours of use – more frequently if dusty conditions prevail. This is done by washing the filter in soap and water with a little oil added evenly when dry. For other maintenance there is a comprehensive multi lingual user manual which shows what to do and when.Overall this is a well-made machine, there’s plenty of power at your disposal - it runs well and is easy to use thus a worthwhile piece of equipment if you have any significant hedges to maintain. It is made by market leaders Husqvana but under the McCulloch brand so I guess you get their top quality but at a cheaper price point. At £130 it is competitively positioned and seems good value when compared at similar machines some more than twice the price although it needs to be remembered this is aimed at the domestic market. Finally don't forget to visit the McCulloch's website to register your machine and to see the useful advisory videos on use and maintenance and find your nearest service centre. Warranty appears to be 12 months.

I wasnt sure which of the range to buy, the Superlite or the newer HT5622 so I basically went for the latest model which was this one. Im pleased I did. Mccullochs have a great reputation for petrol engined garden equipment which is another reason I chose this brand. I have an extremely large hedge, over 100 feet long and 7 feet high so needed something thats promised to do the job. This model also has a slightly longer reach than the superlite version and has an adjustable grip at the throttle end. Down to business - once Id opened up the box, inspected everything, mixed the fuel and filled it up, after one quick prime of the carburettor, it fired up first pull with no choke. Absolutely brilliant.I set to work and trimmed down that hedge in a couple of hours. The adjustable grip is a godsend and I got through the whole hedge in a couple of hours. The unit is light enough for me, well balanced and more than enough power for my needs. I just wish there was a gadget available to clean up the cuttings afterwards!! All in all, a brilliant hedge trimmer and a great choice. Im really pleased and can highly reccommend this model.

Very good quality machine. Took a little while to get it started first time, partly a matter of technique. My husband says it’s a bit heavy to use - he felt as if he’d had a good upper-body workout the next day! But, it cut several of our shrubs (& small tree branches) very easily, cleanly, and efficiently. It also doesn’t seem to use much petrol, a bonus! Do make sure you get the 50:1 ratio of oil/petrol spot on too, so as to avoid excessive smoke (a tip from a helpful YouTube vlogger!). We had ordered the 2 stroke oil and mixing bottle separately, which helped us get the mix right. The one slightly puzzling thing is, we can’t locate the serial number! So various emails are going back and forward between me and McCulloch Customer Services - hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of it, eventually!

Produced arrived used, even though it was brand new. Definite signs of having been used. Amazon were brilliant and refunded. As for the hedge trimmer: it’s a little on the heavy side if using for extended periods. But it cuts well and isn’t too noisy. Would buy it again if I needed too

I have this trimmer for a year now. It never upsets me. It starts up and cuts very quickly. Very powerful hedge trimmer. In all cases so far, it cuts in one pass, so you can imagine how quick it is to trim a hedge, a 2-meter tree or a rose bush.

After search and reading reviews on all sorts of makes , we settled on this hedge trimmer and we are not sorry, excellent value, good and sturdy easy to use. Could do with a bag to put it in after use or blade cover

This is a serious piece of kit. I have 2 council bins due to the size of my hedge. This tool copes well to the use it gets.well worth paying that little bit extra. Well recommended.

Perfect boys toy. My husband is more than happy to cut the hedges more frequently with this hedge trimmer. He says it’s easy to use, cuts and runs well. Robust piece of kit.

excellent product cuts through hedge and bushes with ease. It's a big long blade so can be heavy and difficult to use for a smaller person. I find it perfect for me.

After pondering for a while on choosing the right machine to purchase, at this early stage, I think I have come to the right decision and chose this hedge trimmer.
