My 4-year-old son gives this 5 stars “because it can actually drive fast”.Indeed my 4-year-old son has been playing quite happily with this for a long time. He has been arranging it in many different ways, each layout complete with a level number all the way up to level infinity, the layouts becoming more difficult as the level increases resulting in impossible levels where Lightning McQueen has to go in an L-shape (could be done if he hits the tractor at the right angle and speed I suppose), or where bits of the track are upside down or there are extra obstacles in the way. But my son does love his cars (in general, not just the Disney movie)so It was always going to be the case that he loved this. This set is called “Smokey’s Tractor Challenge” and is based on Cars 3 (Smokey is from Cars 3 as is Cruz Ramirez, both these characters appearing on the box although not in the set). We haven’t seen Cars 3 but that doesn’t matter, nor does it matter if you haven’t seen any of the Cars films as this toy can be playing without knowledge of them. We have seen Cars the original movie though so know of Lightning McQueen, who is in the set, and of the tractors, thanks to the tractor tipping McQueen and Mater do in the original movie. This set has no batteries (bonus) which is something I was worried about when I got it with the box saying “motorized tractors”. The tractors are actually wind-up. Once wound-up they go around in a circle tipping up and then down and then up and so on (it would have been good if they also had wheels that turned so they could be used off the set as well, and also it would have been good if they went “moo” too but that would have required batteries, and it is a relief to see a toy without batteries in this day and age). Then there is the long track that can be adjoined to these tractors mowing the meadow. The track is easy to take apart and join yet is firmly in place when you need it to be. My 4-year-old has been doing it easily. The track is, as far as I can see, compatible with other sets in the Cars series. A bonus would have been that they were compatible with Hot Wheels track but it doesn’t matter if they are not.At one end of the track is a button to push that sends Lightning McQueen off down the track, the harder the button press the faster he goes. You place McQueen next to it, press the button which gives Lightning a push. Other cars such as Hot Wheels cars can also be used, and it works with them too. However the Lightning McQueen car is a bit lighter than your normal toy car, and if there are two children playing you have to be careful where they play because the car going down the track at speed then up the ramp is a bit like a missile so could hit an unsuspecting child in the face. The track comes with a couple of ramps that can be put up or down, and there are different gradients that they can go to too, with a mid-way point being possible. It is hard to get the car to go over the gap and land on the ramp as it typically overshoots (you need just the right amount of power in your initial button push) but the car still lands on the track and continues to the end.As other reviewers have mentioned the folding gates are a bit stiff and it would have been better if they swung open a bit more easily. And my other main issue with this is the point I made above about this being a bit like a missile launcher so kids brothers and sisters or friends should be out of the way when the car goes down the track and shoots up a ramp but overall this is toy that my 4-year-old son in particular is enjoying. It is also refreshing that this toy is not battery powered, even though it does have moving parts.

This is nice play set - you can set it up in a number of way depending on age and play style - ramps, ramps and gate, just the gate and so on. The main feature is a plunger unit to fire the cars - its fully dependant on how hard you whack it - which is fantastic for small children compared to a switch device - and also interesting for cause and effect. The cows are fixed to wind-up table - clever use of an old technology and means batteries aren’t required.Pros:- range of play modes- easy to put together- the plunger will work with any car - or indeed even for launching Lego figures as my son demonstrated to me.The Cars series diecasts work the best as they’re a perfect width but anything will do.- the cows add an interesting timing elementCons:- the novelty can wear off fairly quickly - everything but the plunger is likely to go in the cupboard soon i suspect.- the quality of the plastic is very low. It’s nice to use, is hard and also easy to bend/break, like in the case of the ‘rock’ sides of the ramp.- some stickers to put on but they don’t add much. You need to position them right first time as the glue is incredibly tacky.- only one car, but that’s offset by it being compatible with pretty much any car.Overall an entertaining play set of which the standout feature is the plunger launcher.

This is a decent enough toy for fans of Cars and Lightning McQueen, but it really takes an adult to assemble, and to apply the transfers. Having said that, the interchangeable sections clip together easily, and it doesn’t take long to set it up. Once the car is in its starting position, and the tractor turntable is wound up and the tractors are rotating, you are ready to start the game.It takes practice getting the right force when you hit the red button – too much and the car flies over the whole assembly, too little and it doesn’t clear the gap between the ramps. However, the angles of the take-off and landing ramps can be adjusted, and there is an alternative way of connecting the sections,so that there is a longer run-up – and no gap between the ramps; this may be more suitable for younger players. Also, the rotating plate, with the tractors on it, can be attached in four positions, depending on where you want the gate. All in all, not a bad toy, with no batteries needed, but it’s function is pretty limited; it kept our eight and five year-old amused for a while, then they wandered off - but the younger one took the car with him!

We had an afternoon trying this out with an eight-year-old boy and his toddler brother. Two adults set to erecting the track, with advice from the older child. He could not have done it alone. His younger brother was fascinated by the tractors, who, once clipped into their positions, career around the tractor turning circle, occasionally leaving room for the hot wheels car to zoom through. The instructions are not easy for a child to follow. There are stickers to apply to the track sides and signs. The action required by the player is to press hard down on a detonator style switch. Too hard, and the car flies over the track to the other side of the room, not enough push and it doesn't reach the tractors.Mastering this takes a while and then you get the right amount of push and have to calculate when to send the car along the track, so as to avoid the tractors. Good fun for a while. Not necessarily a perfect Christmas gift, unless you are prepared to help with the setup.

My son is almost 5 and I got this for him. He's not a Cars fan as such, although he does know who Lightning McQueen is.The set needs some adult help to put together and is quite long so takes up quite a bit of room once assembled. The idea is to wind up the tractors (it's clockwork so no batteries needed) and then you launch the car and try to get it past the tractors without bumping into them. And that's pretty much it but you can try and do it in three different ways. I think it's all about timing and skill. It comes with one car which is all you need. My son has had lots of fun bashing it to launch the car but overall it's not a toy that I think he's going to play a lot with.

My son is 8 and suddenly developed an interest in Cars the movies. I bought this for him and he loved it. You wind the tractors at the end and then load a car, press down on the launcher and hope to get the car through without crashing into a tractor. If you like you can bypass the tractors by lifting the track and positioning it into jump mode and can see how far the cars will get across the room (be careful as the cars can get to eye level of other kids sitting in the region watching!). Great fun from a small toy, worth the money, plus you get a lighting McQueen car too.

I would have loved this when I was young (actually love it now I'm a grown up lol) and am sure any little Cars fan will be delighted with it. It comes with a car and you can always buy more to supplement. You do need a good of floor space to set it out as it is about 3 feet long. It seems pretty well made and good quality. Little one and friends have been having a ball playing with it!

This is easy to set up and fun to play with. There is an element of Crazy Golf to it, trying to launch the cars between the rotating tractors without hitting them.In offering three challenges, the designers have at least tried to add variety to increase longevity.Price at time of review: £24.99

This set is fantastic fun and brilliant value. The various elements are easy to assemble, and it would be a massive hit with any Disney Cars fan.I would advise against buyer this for a toddler due to small parts and fast flying cars.

This set has been a big hit with my 'Cars' mad sons.It was easy to create and set-up and it also connects well with other toys we have in this range. You can change track layouts so it keeps interest.Good value for money too.

This set has a track and launcher that you can re-arrange to perform different stunts. The stunts are limited so once you have done them that`s it. It is a nice set but my grandson was bored after about 20 minutes.

This is a great addition to the cars sets as they can all fix together. Easy to assemble and can be done in a number of different ways. Tractors move around when you turn the sign so no batteries needed.

This is a Xmas present so have not opened it yet. However I only ordered it yesterday and it came today so super fast delivery very happy and sure my son will love it as he is Disney Cars mad.

3.12.2018

This is ok.Once assembled its 3ft long which is great. Hit the plunger and fire the car. Motorised tractors add some minor interest.Soon loses its appeal and then takes up too much space

My grandson absolutely loved getting this for Christmas, easy to follow instructions, good quality. Can be used in many different ways, also connects to other products in the Cars range.
