The first thing I noticed when this toy arrived was that the car was bigger than I’d anticipated. Then the first job is to get it out of the box, not as simple as it sounds. First you have to tear open the panel on the bottom of the box to revel the three locking pins. These need to be turned through 90 degrees, but they are too tight to be turned by fingertips and I had to use a metal tool to move them. Even after the pins are removed, there’s still an elastic fastener to be removed. Certainly not something that should be left to a child. However, having removed it from the box, this is a fun toy that’s operated purely by “child power”, no batteries, no charger. Turn the handle to crank up the friction drive, the faster you turn it the more power to drive the car. Push the release button and the car shoots off of the ramp at high speed. A switch on the ramp changes functions. In “Wheelie” mode the car shoots off on its rear wheels, in “Side Driving” mode it shoots off on two wheels and in “Freestyle” mode it performs stunts. To facilitate side driving and freestyle modes, another button allows the ramp to be tilted to 45 degrees and when the release is pressed, the car shots off on two wheels. Finally, in “Race” mode, the car runs on four wheels at high speed in a straight line. It’s great to see children cranking the handle for all they’re worth, and then hearing the shouts of pleasure when the car zooms off.

To be honest, when it comes to the Pixar Cars Stunt and Skills set, what you see is what you get. It's a pretty easy contraption to use - you load up Lightning McQueen into the launcher, wind the crank up and then launch with the press of a button. There's quite a good distance to this toy too so if you have a lino floor or even a reasonably big living room expect to get some decent distance on this one. To add to the fun, there's 4 different settings for the toy as well, wheelie mode (which is wheelie just a way of launching the toy on its back wheels), race mode (standard launcher), side launcher (launches on two side wheels) and freestyle (where Lightning McQueen dons a microphone and starts rapping). The last being incorrect of course, the freestyle mode allows the car to launch in a myriad of different positions. The actual quality of the product is quite good although don't expect anything that's going to blow you away. It's a fun toy and something that'll certainly keep the kids amused for a while but given the simplicity of the toy, it really depends on how easily amused your child is as to how much longevity you get out of this. It's still a decent little product though and worth the money

This is a wonderful big toy. Whether your child is a fan of Disney-Pixar's Cars or not (and I'm can't imagine there are many who are not) this is an impressive Lightning McQueen toy car that has a lot of features and doesn't come with a large price tag..It's big and attractively (tightly) packaged to show off how cool it looks. You'd think a toy this size with all the features it has would eat up batteries, but this doesn't need any batteries at all. It relies on the old-style cranking and a release button to set it racing off the starting ramp. The starting ramp has the functions that allow the car to go off in various modes - wheelie, side drive, crazy freestyle or just racing mode. That's all there is to it,but really it doesn't need to do anything more. It's amazing to see it take off and it always get a reaction of delight. And there's something about Lightning McQueen, the design and probably the large size here, that inspires 'favourite toy' reactions. All the hallmarks of a really good toy.

My 4 year old Car mad son absolutely loves this toy.Even a couple of months on, he still plays with this as much now as he did in the beginning. As a parent the fact that this toy doesn’t need batteries is kind of amazing. The amount of batteries I go through monthly is ridiculous and I am happy not to be adding another toy to that list. With this you just load up Lightning McQueen into the launcher, wind the crank up and then press the button to launch. We have recently laid laminate in the dining room and my son is obsessed with playing with this in there as the Lightning McQueen can actually travel a good distance on a flat surface. It works well on the carpet too but goes further on the laminate.Compared to other Cars toys from this collection I am much more impressed with the quality of this. It is more robust and can take being handled a little roughly by excited children. It is a great size too, perfect for little and bigger hands alike. This is worth the price tag.

Back in the 1970's we had a toy out which was very similar to this one. It involved Evil Kenevil on a bike. You locked it into the base, cranked the handle and pressed release and off it went. Move forward almost 40 years and this toy is similar but does so much more.It comes in a nice box and is quite large. You simply lock the car into its base, crank the handle and choose one of the buttons, which determines which stunt the car does. You can choose Wheelie mode or Side Drive or Two Wheel mode, all you do is press the appropriate button. The secret is to get a lot of power into the car by really cranking the handle very fast. The toy itself is well made and quite large. It works very well and will give any child hours of fun to use. This is one Disney themed toy that is worth buying and I am happy to Recommend it.

Great toy that went down a storm. You can make Lightning McQueen drive out at speed, do a back wheelie, or attempt a side balance drive. The latter doesn't always work but it's good fun trying. The propellant force is done by kinetic energy of turning the crank, so no batteries are needed, and it's pretty simple for a 2 year old to work out himself.Perhaps would have been nicer if it made some noises and I think it's a bit on the pricey side for what it is, but that's just me being a grumpy old adult and thinking kids toys are really expensive these days.A little on the thin side with the plastic so i'm expecting dad's supergluing skills to come out at some point, but in terms of actual play,he loves it. The car goes even faster if done on a vinyl or kitchen floor. A great toy for any Cars fan.

My 3.5 year old son ABSOLUTELY LOVED this present. It’s bigger than what appears in the picture on amazon. It’s a fantastic toy which goes fast, it can go straight or round in circles. It doesn’t need batteries – always a plus factor! The car is powered by twisting the lever, the faster it is twisted, the faster it goes. The twisting mechanism is easy for him to use which means he can play independently. Admittedly I had a lot of fun with it too!! There is a side driving option available by lifting the ramp but the side driving doesn’t happen quite like the pictures.. It’s hit-and-miss. One thing to be careful of is when the car has been launched not to lift the car as the child risks gettingtheir fingers hurt as the back wheels spin around.

This is just great - a real old-school contraption and a good sized, quality car. Playing on a good expansive floor space is a lot of fun - Lightning lives up to his name as he shoots out of the trap and performs one of a few different 'stunts'.I was concerned that this would be a gimmick with little replay value or limited appeal, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The sheer anticipation as the lever is wound up and shrieks of delight when Lightning pops off is priceless really. It's just a lot of fun, and really what playtime should be all about. It's been a big hit with my two daughters - with the six year old who's familiar with Pixar Cars, and the three year old who hasn't got a clue about it but loves this all the same.

This is a super fun car and the boys loved it...an instant hit once we were able to extricate it from the box. There's no need for any batteries as the power is generated by turning (cranking) a handle that revs up the power in order for the car to operate. It is fast once it speeds off and there are different settings depending on what the child wants it to do.It does wheelies, side driving, and freestyle, where it performs stunts. Different settings are used to achieve these results. A race mode means the car drives off fast in a straight line. The boys soon worked out how to do this and they thought that it was great!A great car.

After what felt like three weeks, Lightning McQueen and his ramp were free and I've not seen it for a few weeks now. Occasionally, I'll hear my 4 year old tell the 2 year old off for not turning the handle hard enough or the occasional laugh, but most of the time it's them cheering the car on. The three stunt modes have kept them both very entertained. In keeping with the Cars franchise the set looks superb and seems sturdy enough to withstand the attention of a 4 and a 2 year old. I'd highly recommend this on the basis of how entertained my two have been.

This is a brilliant toy - it's very exciting for kids to play with, and for grownups too! Unusually there is no need for batteries - this toy is old school, just like Lightning McQueen is, in his world of Cars. The car builds up energy from a crank that you wind up and, when you release the mechanism, the car shoots out like a rocket. The anticipation is half the fun, waiting to see what the car will do - whether it will be a wheelie, side driving or flat-out freestyle stunts. The grandchildren adore it and play with it at every opportunity.

This is far better than I thought it would be. It performs a variety of great stunts e.g. a wheelie or on two wheels. You just crank it up ad let it go.The car is much bigger than I thought it would be.It has longevity as you can not only perform the stunts but (as it is large) set up an obstacle course and climb ramps (well, files in our case) and knock things down. What’s great is that it works fine on carpet, and it travels a long way.I’ve enjoyed using this with my daughter, as has she. It is fun.Price at time of review: £29.99

This is a good fun wind up car and the kids got the hang of it pretty quickly. It does some basic stunts but really we found it to mostly just hop along and speed across the floor. You really need a large surface to get the most out of it so if you are in a small house you will need to use the hall or something and use it on a wood floor its going to struggle on carpet. Its nice enough for a bit of basic fun but can see the kids getting bored of it after a while because its a bit limited in what it can do.

This set includes a car - the Lightning McQueen from Disney Pixar film "Cars" - and a launch pad. You can put the car in the launcher, rotate the leaver on the side and press one of the buttons to release the car at speed. There is a second button that releases the car on its side. This sounds very simple but brings hours of joy to kids - my 10 year old nephew went mad over this toy over Christmas. It is a bit pricey for what it is but then again, everything is expensive these days.

Crank the wheel, push the button and whoosh Lightning McQueen shoots across the floor.. fast. The more you crank the wheel, the further the car will go. Lightening McQueen literally has a mind of its own, it will spin, hit a wall and change direction, drive on 2 wheels, the car fly’s round the room. It’s a simple toy that feels very robust and there’s absolutely no setting up. Simply take it out the box and play. A great fun toy that needs zero batteries.
