Here we go again with yet another fighting game from Capcom, the guys and gals who brought us Street Fighter 2, the grand daddy of beat `em ups. This is another 3-on-3 `tag team' style fighter in the tradition of X-men vs Street Fighter and the original Marvel vs Capcom (vs something). The main difference between this and the previous Marvel vs Capcom (2) is that this time the characters are fully 3D models as opposed to the 2D characters of previous games. This is still basically a 2D fighter on a 2D plane (2D), so it plays like the other games in the series and so isn't a true 3D fighting game in that sense, like Virtua Fighter 8 or Tekken 10 (or however many there are). The characters have an interesting and unique look to them, as they are cell shaded and look almost 2D, this gives them the kind of cartoony look of the previous games with the benefit of smoother animation. The character roster is fairly impressive too, with around 36 fighters (along with a couple of downloadable ones). This is quite standard for fighting games these days though and if your new title doesn't have masses of characters it'll be quickly shunned (or Hadoken-ed) out of the arena. Gone are the days of the original Mortal Kombat where you could release a game with 7 fighters in it (and two of those were the same bloke in different coloured pyjamas). This leads to the first real draw back of the game, there are actually `less' characters than in Marvel vs Capcom 2, which sported an impressive 52 to choose from (when you weren't just picking Ryu and Wolverine, that is). Even though a few of these characters were basically the same guy with a few different moves (Ryu/ Ken, Iron Man/ War Machine, Torville/ Dean...etc), there still seemed like a vast selection and there was a lot of scope for picking an interesting trio. The characters are (not surprisingly) split into either Marvel or Capcom teams and all of them are teaming up to defeat the evil Galactus who wants to `eat' the planet! Does he ever do anything else (although I suppose it's hard to think up new evil schemes on an empty stomach)? For some reason though, the whole `teaming up' part of the plan involves lots and lots (and lots) of fights-to-the-death (probably) by characters on either side! Though I suppose someone like Wolverine or Dante wouldn't just team up with a group of strangers from a different dimension (or whatever) without first beating the hell out of them, just for giggles (probably)! Although overall there aren't that many characters to choose from compared to previous games, they are at least extremely varied. Bulky characters like Hulk and Sentinel play differently from the more nimble ones like Spider-Man and Chun Li. There are also characters like Iron Man and Sir Arthur who are more `projectile' based (they shoot/chuck stuff respectively). Then there are the characters that are just plain odd, like Dormammu (Large spooky guy with a flaming skull head), Super Skrull (Green faced alien man who has the Fantastic 4's combined powers) and Amaterasu (Capcom's teleporting doggie with a small alien companion perched on his head). The characters all have their own styles of play and strategies and (when you aren't just playing as Ryu) offer different approaches to the game and make for some interesting, varied match ups!The actual combat has been simplified since the last game, however. In Marvel vs Capcom 2 there were four attack buttons, these were light and heavy punches and kicks. With a double tap of either of the light attacks, a second, um...'medium' attack was linked onto the first to start up a chain combo. In this way, the characters still had the same amount of moves they'd usually have in a Capcom fighting game, like Street Fighter 2 for example (three punches, three kicks). In Marvel vs Capcom 3, this has been scaled down further, so that there are now only three attack buttons (light, medium and heavy) and pressing these produces a random punch or kick, depending on the particular character. There is a forth `special' attack button, which usually only produces a small projectile attack and is mainly used in combos or as part of a special move command. The fights are always between teams of three, there sadly isn't an option to pick just one on one, or one vs three or other combinations (um, two vs three, I guess). This does work quite well on the whole as the fights are really fast paced and you have the ability to tag in another fighter at any point or have another team member leap on screen to help out briefly. If a character is close to being knocked out, there is the option to simply tag in one of your other fighters and let him/her recover a little health on the side lines, adding a little extra strategy to the fights. The `special' special attacks are as suitably over-the-top as the previous games! Individual characters can send out huge laser blasts that fill the screen (Iron Man) or rip the place up (Wolverine), even Ryu's fireball now takes up most of the screen (HA-DO-KEN)! Not only this, but if you get three full `special power meter' thingies you can unleash all three characters' `special' special attacks at once...filling the screen with nonsense and practically obliterating your unfortunate opponent!Even in the midst of a (berserker) barrage of other fighting games, this one stands out as something great (like the Hulk at a dinner party). The variety of characters and over-the-top silliness, combined with the range of moves and solid core game play make for a fun, entertaining gaming experience. This is recommended to comic book and fighting game fans alike and is another top quality beat em' up from Capcom. This is definitely the best Capcom vs game for the moment...that is until they finally make Street fighter vs Mortal Kombat (please, please make this). Get it before it gets you.....um, it won't really get you (well.... it might)....Overall score: 4 Dragon Punches out of 5!

I'm sure people who read reviews on here more than anything want an average gamers comments rather than a professionally written review, that is what I shall attempt.I have only had the game for a few hours but have completed it 3 times (on easy). Prior to purchasing the game I worried that I wouldnt be able to do any of the moves and end up not playing much at all (like street fighter IV), however I decided to take the chance and figured I could always play on "simple" mode if I am unable to perform any combos or moves. I'm glad I took that that chance because it seems to be a very fun and crazy fighter the graphics are very colourfull and there is so much happening on the screen at any given time that you understand why they put epilepsy seizure warnings on video games.I played the game in "normal" rather than "simple" mode and had no issues of been unable to fight, I was pleasently surprised as I had victories consistantly with no annoyances. The game modes are a little lacking in terms of story and substance, but this is a fighting game and I dont believe anybody buys fighters for the story or deep and varied arcade mode. Completion of arcade mode probably takes 10 to 15 minutes and on "easy" difficulty I was never beaten until I met the allmighty GALACTUS!! a huge planet eating man, and the Sentinal a large angry robot you may know of them from X-men. The characters are varied and original and all have stunning moments, they are quite balanced but varied and different, with some seeming a little over powered but that adds to the game and gives it challenge rather than takes away. There are a few other modes "mission mode" "training" but thats really about it, the mission mode got me stuck because I couldnt perform a move even though I thought I was doing correctly what was displayed. There are 4 characters to unlock which you get just by completing the "arcade" mode and collecting your points Exp at the end of each fight. there are character bios and models to unlock and review if you so wish.Online I only had a quick go and was destoryed by my opponent who really like to perform "ariel combos" and had much better timing than I do at the moment. I was playing Ranked which is probably why some people will spam with some moves. It took a little while to find a game but when I did there didn't seem to be any noticable lag.In summary I think its a solid game which is visually very nice and its pacing is great.8/10

After 10 years of waiting, Capcom have finally followed up MvC2 with the third entry into the series, and it doesn't disappoint. It's fun, fast and as flashy as MvC2 was.Being a massive fan of the series, I was on the edge of my seat the second it was announced and have been following it closely right up until it came through my door.Gameplay: It plays like you'd expect it to really. 3 on 3 action mixing up characters from Marvel and Capcom. There are some new features, such as the X-Factor, which allows you to boost all your stats for a limited time that is dependant on your team members and the opponents team members and who is in play etc. A concern that does come up for me here is the lack of game modes. You get Offline Mode, which houses Arcade, Vs., Training & Mission Mode, and you get Online Mode. Of course, it's hard to ask for variety on a game that is a fighter, but a survival mode would have been cool.Graphics: Graphically, it's pretty good. For the style they went for I think it works. Sometimes the characters can look a little clean, but with everything that's going on on-screen, I doubt that high detail is really an issue. The main concern I had with the game, and it's a bit of a petty one actually, was the selection of characters. On each side there are some fantastic choices (Dante vs Deadpool for example) but at the same time there are some awkward choices. MODOK for example. Personally, he would have been far from my choice of roster, but with that said he is pretty entertaining. The curveball characters mostly seem to be on the Marvel side, although Zero without Megaman is a confusing one.Lastly is the online factor. It could be better, but it could be a lot worse. You can set it up so that you can search for a game whilst playing arcade mode and your match just comes up as a new challenger, as it would if someone had pressed start on a second controller. My main problem is that people online cheap it out and spam the same moves which takes a lot of fun out of a game that heavily relies on a multiplayer element. Sure it's fun to fight the AI, but as with any fighting game, you want to fight other people. So, for those out for fun online, I'd stick to Player Matches as that's where most people tend to play for fun.Overall, it's a fun game that I find takes the old memories you made in MvC2 and makes new ones that are just as fun.

Playing the game for two days now I can say that I'm loving it! at the moment I'm ONLY playing the off line mode, so this review is based on that option. The game changed again in some aspects. The first MvC had 3 punches and 3 kicks, the second MvC had 2 punches and kicks and one of the punches/kicks had the function to be the Low and Medium button. Now, in MvC3, you have Low, Medium, Heavy Attacks and a Special Attack. It's a bit weird to play at the beginning. If you had played the other games before you will have to learn how to play this one again but I must say that it's not hard to get back on track again if you are familiar with all the crazy stuff that you can do.Also you have got a lot of new characters to choose,so you are unlikely to have the same team from the other MvCs.I must say that I do miss some characters like: Venom, Gambit, Silver Samurai, Cyclops, the heavy Thanos, Omega Red, Captain Commando and many other cool ones that are not around anymore. But you have a lot of cool new ones to choose, my team now is Dante, X-23 and I'm still picking the third one, but those two are very nice to play if you are a fast type of gamer. One character that might let you down is Thor, he is slow, perhaps even more than Hulk and Sentinel! such a shame 'cos he really looks nice...MvC3 has also characters to unlock and to do so you have to earn points while you are playing, the first one to unlock is Akuma followed by: Sentinel, Hsien-Ko (from Darkstalkers) and finally Taskmaster. From these characters I liked Akuma and Hsien-Ko most, they are really cool to play and to create combos with them is just fun!Graphically speaking, the game looks beautiful and the backgrounds/stages are really well made, specially the one based on the game Ghouls and Ghosts. The game has a mode for beginners as well but I haven't used it so I cannot say anything about.Galactus is the final boss and he is kind hard to defeat in the Medium mode that I play, but I guess it's just a matter of time to get used to him, once you know his weakness it's going to be easy :]All in all it's a great return for MvC series and a must buy if you are fan and like fighting games!!

This game offers excellent value for money for both hardcore fans and those new to the world of Capcom. If you have even the faintest interest in Street Fighter, Capcom or Marvel then get this. Forget about the lack of story or options, all you need is an xbox live connection and away you go.The training room is done really nicely and the missions (where the game teaches you combos for each character) all really help introduce the game. There are two methods of control - normal (which is as you would expect) and simple where the level of moves for each character is reduced but hyper combos and special moves can be pulled off at the touch of a button. This has been really useful for younger players who may love the visuals and characterisation but be put off by not being able to access long combos or special moves. A really nice touch to introduce younger/newer fighters from Capcom.this is much simpler than Street Fighter 4 and although lacking some of the depth there is easily enough here to satisfy the most hardcore of fans.Overall a great game. Buy, buy, buy

after many years it returns, dissapointing a lot but pleasing others.it's easy to get into.. there's a training mode but you really wont need it as everyone pretty much has the same combo's and inputs for special move's.the buttons are layed out so it's easy to make anyone play like a pro... this is a fighting game for the casual generation.so some may be put off, certainly the types who need detailed inputs for an overhead axe kick but this is by no means unenjoyable!it has a decent ammount of characters (not as many as Marvel vs Capcom 2 though) and some fan favorites are in there (wesker and deadpool to name a few) the game play's as it always has, 2 teams of 3 characters fight until there's only one team left...the fighting is flashy fast and over the top and that's why it's fun! you get lost in all the insane attacks, all the speed and it leaves you wanting more.this game truely shines in multiplayer though! so if your looking for a game that's not serious, that dosn't require you to become a black belt in karate then this is the game for you.

This review is based on the offline mode only.I've been waiting ages for a new MVC game and it's been worth the wait.MVC is a 3 on 3 fighting game and plays very much like the street fighter games, which would make sense considering it's from the people who make Street figther.I found Street Fighter 4 boring but this i love because it's so over the top. It's not very balanced but who cares, i'm here to have fun and theres plenty of that to be found here.I think you need to have a friend to get the most out of it but it's still a good 1 player game.

I ordered games from other companies via Amazon 1 week before this one and one day after ordering this It came to my suprise in the post. Still waiting on my other orders lol.Excellent game too, for a little light hearted fun, but dont think its worth forking out more money for the ultimate edition, should have added that content as an expansion or waited a few months and then released the game as it clearly doesnt quite look complete. Just another way these game companies rob us of our money I suppose.

Its crazy fun, the graphics and animations are superb, lots of characters and the online works great also I enjoy beat em ups so this game is almost perfect for me. However the reason I gave it 4 overall is because there are only 4 cinematics and dlc is already out and it is ridiculously expensive, 400 points (£4) for characters that should have been in the game in day 1.

30.12.2011

this is a really good game if i do say so, i purchased it on release day and got it in a steel case which just stunning but as I'm getting rid of my xbox I've had problems trading this game in because theres no barcode on it.well anyway this game is just simply amazing and I've played through it many times and it never loses its edge

19.2.2011

Brought this game on the release date and have found it to be much fun. Lots of action does go on the screen at once, but I like that. Graphically it's awesome for a 2D fighter. Lots of characters to choose from and a training mode to help you get used to the controls.9/10

Very surprised. First time I buy a second-hand game in Amazon, and honestly was not quite sure how I was going to find the product. It just like a brand-new one. Excelet, rapid, and just as declared by vendor. Have to give a 10.
