I took a bit of a risk on this game as I couldn't really work out whether I was going to like the gameplay from the video trailers. All the reviews I read said " if you like Xcom then you'll love it" but I've never heard of xcom so that wasn't much help.It has a very long beginning of videos and story but it's lovely to watch and helps you bond with the characters. Then as you wander around the world you will stumble into battles against Rabbids. Each battles is your team of 3 characters, which you can change as you unlock more against any number of enemy rabbids that all move and fight in different ways. So first Mario takes a turn and he can move around the arena and then take a shot at an enemy. All the enemy have little stats above their head showing how much chance of hitting them you have and how much damage it will do. Once his turn it over then it's time for the next guy in your team to try, until you've all had a try and then the enemy gets a go at hitting you.So it all about tactics and moving to the right spots but every move is a delight as you see in detail them running around and bashing each other flat or firing people into the air. The graphics are so lovely that it really makes this game. I got through the first world quite easily but then I've got to some in the second world where I having to replay a few times, changing my tactics and it's getting much trickier. It keeps fresh as you are always unlocking new characters and weapons and you might need to change your team characters for subtle improvements.I'm really impressed and can't stop playing this game. It's also great to play while in handheld. I find some games need to be on the big screen but this works well both ways. You can only do 2 player where each person controls 2 characters each against the same enemy. This works ok but we haven't used it much. Better single player.I'm really pleased with it, makes such a refreshing change to be playing a different kind of game and one that works so seamlessly.

One of the first PC games I ever played was the fantastic X-COM Enemy Unknown. A wonderful tactical turn based strategy game that many of us 90's gamers know and love. Ubisoft have managed to not only capture the essence of this gameplay for the Nintendo Switch, but have also manage to successfully merge Mario's classic style and Rabbids comical uniqueness into a game I've enjoyed playing. The Story revolves around the Mushroom Kingdom being once again at threat. Torn asunder by a mysterious vortex, which in the opening credits is mostly caused by those ever curious, brainless and totally bizarre Rabbids. Thanks to the Rabbids 'Oooooooo it's a button' *poke* mentality,Mario is forced to join forces with strange mashups of his closest friends, including a very diva/chav Peach Rabbid, to fight even stranger mashups of his old enemies and and new foes along the way.The game play is similar to X-Com but simpler in guise of smaller maps and being able to see where your enemies are regardless of where they are on the map. But it adds in a teamworking element that X-Com lacked, and the comic styling of Rabbids will always bring a smile to your face. Upgradeable attacks and buffs are a standard for this game style but Mario with a Blaster is a little strange even for me. Something more Mario would have been more fitting but it still works. Outside of the combat are even more comical Rabbid-esque jokes and visuals which just add to the enjoy-ability of the game. And as the game unfolds you often shake your head while smirking. From what I can see after completing each world you unlock a cooperative level to give you and your friends something to do. I'm planning to give this a try soon and will update accordingly. All in all I think Ubisoft have hit on a winner. Maybe not a future cult making game but a fun and pleasant play none the less. I'm looking forward to continuing the journey.

I admit that I laughed at the idea of this game when it was first announced. I didn't pay any attention to it, and thought it was going to be a variation on Mario Party. I was wrong. This is a turn based strategy game, similar to games like xcom, where you alternate turns with the enemy, choosing where to move your characters, how to attack, and how to use their other offensive/defensive abilities. It sounds complicated, but it's easy to get into.As for difficulty... I took a very methodical approach, after completing every area, I went back to complete challenges and level up my characters. If I hit any difficult battles, going somewhere else to power up a bit and returning later seemed to work. There was one boss later in the game that became irritating, but after looking for hints online, I found that it was easier with different team members, so I switched and got through easily the next time. I never tried easy mode, but I think it offers more HP for your characters at the start of the battle. The ability to choose your characters and loadout before each battle was something I really liked, as one of the issues with xcom was your characters dying and having to rebuild the team. No such issues here. Also, there are numerous puzzles throughout the story, normally involving coloured switches and blocks. They are very well implemented, and I never needed to look up any solutions, although some puzzles could be quite taxing.I've now done all of the game including challenges, apart from the 4 ultimate challenges which appear to be very tough, but they aren't needed to complete the game.Overall, this is a great game, with it's well implemented turn based gameplay and some fun puzzles, it has turned out to be one of my favourite Switch games.

This one really started off well, I got about 2 and half worlds in and got a bit bored. The story line is that Rabbids have entered Mario's world, and one Rabbid has the power change things/blend 2 objects or characters together. This make for a powerful tool that an enemy utilises the way through the game. You have a Mario, Luigi, Yoshi (and so on) Rabbid versions, all as playable characters and obviously they are quite silly but still funny.Gameplay is essentially a turned based game, all characters will be able to move from certain squares or cells on the map and complete an attack (certain characters can go further than others). With the ultimate aim of eliminating the enemy Rabbids or getting a friendly character to the other end of the map without dying. You can upgrade all characters so they can move further or do more damage or have other attacks that they could use.All the way through this was great fun, until around half way through the 3rd world. from the 1st and 2nd world they added a few new elements to keep the gameplay fresh (in and out of battle) but overall it was the same, but came the 3rd world it was just more of the same just harder (as you'd expect) and it got a tad boring. I pushed through it and was happy when I finished it but I was a bit of a slog toward the end.Worth a play, well made, but need some fresh elements nearer the end.

First of all, I have to just say it... this game is truly amazing. Don't let the look make you think that this game is just for kids, as it's definitely not. It's a complex turn based shooter, that makes you feel like a boss when you pull off some awesome kills. Also, if you don't know already, Luigi is a killer in this game, he uses his sniper weapon to long shot enemies from across the map, which makes him an essential character for your team.To put it bluntly, this game is essentially a Mario XCom (if you haven't played these games, you need to), where you move characters into cover, and use various weapons and abilities to defeat your opponents, in a turn based arena. The story is brilliantly told using incredible cut scenes that are seamless, and don't impact the fluidity of the game in anyway. I have spent a good 10 or so hours on this game, and I'm still enjoying myself, even though I've only reach level two.How does it handle on the switch?Well, I was very surprised that this game runs amazingly on the switch, I was expecting some frame rate issues, just because of how incredibly stunning the art styles and visuals are, but I've experienced nothing, and that's in handheld mode and docked mode.

I was super excited to finally play this having been hyped since I saw the original trailer, when I saw a combo I never thought I wanted that I never thought would work portrayed in a way that looked... great. To say it intrigued me was an understatement. Having played it (with high expectations following the scores it received), I can say this game is worthy of the praise it has received.I like the idea of strategy games but never really enjoyed playing them, but this game is so different. This is a charming bundle of fun that really makes you think with fast paced combat. The vast movement options, abilities and ranging weapons/personal really make this super enjoyable and fast paced. There is a lot of content too, whether that be rabbid antics to view, puzzles to solve between battles, the campaign itself or the challenges that you can complete post game.I bought a switch pokemon let's go bundle, and despite the fact I have enjoyed pokemon a lot from what I've played so far, this game has stolen the majority of my playtime. I'm buying the DLC content to continue my experience now, and would highly recommend this for any switch owners.

When this game was leaked back in April, I don't think anybody was expecting the end product to be quite what it is today. Fast forward a few month to E3 and as soon as Shigeru Miyamoto walked out onto the Ubisoft stage, you knew this game was going to be special.Blending the charm of Mario with the insanity of Rabbids was always going to be hit or miss and thankfully, Davide Soliani and his team hit the nail bang on the head. The gameplay is a unique take on the tactical turn based genre that games such as XCOM made cool again, and whilst XCOM is a great game in its own right, Mario + Rabbids offers, in my opinion, a lot more as it will appeal to families as well as the hardcore gamer. And trust me,the latter stages can be very challenging indeed. For the record, I purchased this as a digital product, but felt that I should share how much enjoyment I've received from this game since downloading yesterday, and at a measly 2.4GB, Ubisoft really managed to do a great job with the compression on this title. Whilst it is presented in a cartoony manner, this is hands down, the best looking game on Switch to date.

It took a while to get hooked up with this but it was worth to get through the basics and tutorials etc.Be warned the game is very silly and it has no deep story, however the gameplay easily compensate for the lack of story,A nice tactical approach in the Super Mario atmosphere is something we never really had before. If you like games like Xcom or any other turn based strategy well this is going to be good fun for you. Especially if you like Mario games too.The game is very challenging and punishing.Stay away if you wish to run through and finish this game quick as possible. The battles requiring serious planning, thinking of next moves and considering all options you have against the enemy. You might not like this game if you have no patience or time to plan accordingly.Me personally an experienced Xcom player can tell this game is not for the very young audience like the other Super Mario games.Pros:- Cute design, good graphic/animations- Great progression system- Battles are challenging- Decent longevityCons:- Long learning curve/tutorial- No online multiplayer option- No in depth story

Firstly, this is a great game!I must admit I was a little disappointed to find that it didn’t seem to have much of an actual storyline and wasn’t like the good old Mario game that I remember. This is a strategy game rather than a platform game. For those that know and love xCom, this is definitely for you.The Mario 3D world graphics are truely stunning an the Switch brings the graphics alive during the video shorts within the game.Pros:•Addictive (this is a pro for me as like to be engaged within the game)•Excellent graphics.•Great to get your mind working.Cons:•Looooong videos to watch before you can actually start playing the game. (A pet hat of mine)•Probably a little hard for youngsters.(Although my kids know how to work these things better than I do! Lol)•Uses a lot of battery.•A lot of flashing during some parts. (Maybe something to look out for if you have epilepsy? Just my opinion, obviously I’m not a doc so can’t confirm)•I miss the old Mario platform style game. (Again, my opinion)UPDATE:Epilepsy warning has been added to the beginning of the game!

Got this game on launch and so far thoroughly enjoying it. (I'm about 5-6 hours in and completed the first two worlds at this point)When it was first announced I didn't pay it any mind as turn based strategy games aren't my thing (I usually find them slow paced and I'm not always good at been strategic). However, after watching some previews it got my interest and I started to get excited about buying it.I think it's the simplicity that has dragged me in, as well as have an exploration/collection aspect to it. I think the pacing is really good, and I've found I'm happy to learn from my mistakes and plan better for the next time. If you do find yourself getting a bit overwhelmed, you can either use easy mode, or grind for more coins to buy the stronger weapons. The most fun is when you figure out how to chain your dash, jump, weapon and overwatch attacks to do maximum damage!Would highly recommend, especially if, like me,you're not usually into turn based strategy games but want to dip your toe's into the water, Mario & Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a good start!

Had this title since launch day and can honestly say that it's one of those, relatively rare, games, that you just want to play and play!!The combination of RABBIDS humour ( the funniest yet!! ), iconic Nintendo characters, and a surprisingly deep strategy-challenge, make for hour upon hour of almost unique FUN!!Explore, explore again, then explore some more, because there's so much to discover in terms of, weapons, "treasures", artwork, models, sound-files, and secrets...... AND, some of the best, side-splitting, moments you'll ever see!!This is a wonderful achievement by Ubisoft/Nintendo!! To (finally!!), take the potential of the Rabbid's humour, make it REALLY funny, and place it in the Mushroom Kingdom,hand-in-hand with Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, etc, in a brilliant game where it proves to be completely at home!I truly believe this will be looked back on, in years to come, as a contemporary "CLASSIC"!!Thouroughly recommended from every viewpoint!!

I'll start by saying I'm a huge mario fan. However I didn't have high expectations going into this game, for one I'm not a fan of xcom type turn based strategy games, and neither am I a fan of rabbits..but I really like this game. I'll break it down:GraphicsOn the switch the visuals for this are the best currently on offer, crisp resolution, good textures, fantastic lighting and good use of AAGameplayAddictive, you go in to play half an hour and 3 hours later you're still there. It's like a game of chess, but a lot more entertaining. As a Mario gameIf you're possibly thinking Mario plays nothing more than aesthetics in this game you're half right, it's not a classic Mario game. But it's not meant to be,it's the prettiest Mario and the mushroom kingdom have ever looked, the soundtrack is in incredible, it's not Mario Oddyssey but this is a great introduction for this beloved mascot into a new genre

I've got to say this was an apprehensive purchase, I'm not a huge fan of Rabbids, they exuded a feel of DreamWorks' minion characters which I find overzealous, immature and irritating to say the least. I took the plunge far after release date whilst craving some Fire Emblem esque strategical action and, in all honesty, I'm pleasantly surprised. The story is insignificant, something you'd expect from a standard Mario title, but the gameplay is deeper and more cerebral than I would've expected. The addition of the Rabbids to the mix actually serves to be quite endearing, the regular inclusions of their mishaps are entertaining and at points include comical references to Mario franchises in the form of set pieces and characters which are well appreciated.Hats off to the oft criticised Ubisoft for making a game that feels almost akin to a first-party Nintendo game.

This is an amazing albeit unlikely mashup between the Mario universe and the Rabbids. I was extremely skeptical about the inclusion on the Rabbids but decided to give it a chance as I am a big Nintendo fan and also strategy RPG and tactical games. Turns out that it is just crazy enough to work. The gameplay is typical Nintendo, simple enough on the surface but with enough depth to satisfy if you want to get that from it. Don't get me wrong, it isn't as deep as X-com or other heavier games, but for the type of game it is and the style and audience there is a lot to do and to get stuck into.Another plus point is I managed to get my wife to play it and she is now mildly hooked on it and there iseven several co-op campaigns to play through.Enjoy

Another game bought in haste for my 3 year old- as he loves Mario Odyssey- so I decided to broaden his horizons with a new game.I disregarded the PEGI rating thinking it couldn't be that difficult as it's Mario- and with help my son is really good at this game!!My son does the wandering and I help him with the battles- and we're quite a little team. This game really has a Worms feel to it- using weapons to battle the rabbids- with a cute little story running in the background. It becomes a bit tedious at times- as after a little while all the battles begin to feel very same-ish....hopefully as I get further into the game it'll mix up a little- but I can't see it.Its a good game that doesn'trequire too much thought.
