I spent hours researching on the Internet for the best lightweight yoga mat. I'm writing this as there seems to be a lot of conflicting info and it took me a long time to choose this mat.Unfortunately, a lot of the research contains US based products not available (at a reasonable price, or at all) in the UK. In the UK, this and the Gaiam travel mat seemed both available and reasonably priced (£22-£33 including postage).Let me make this clear that this is a very robust and thin mat. Two qualities I want. Thin means it can be packed into a small space. I have mine folded in half lengthways and then rolled which gives a sausage shape about the size of a packed pair of sports shoes (i store it inside a shoe bag for reference),about 30 cm long by 15cm thick approximately. This can fit into hand luggage or a suitcase or a large handbag (as other reviews claim you can't, although I accept it would need to be a larger bag).It grips carpet very well and is surprisingly sticky. Although my yoga is very much at a beginner's level, I'd imagine it would perform well enough for all but the most demanding of users. I also have not used it for hot yoga so can't comment on it when its covered in sweat (although why wouldn't you use a yoga towel in that case anyway?). I do have a yoga towel and it sticks very nicely onto it.Its not going to be as supportive as thicker mats on the market but I cannot travel with a thicker mat so a mute point anyway. If you are not going to travel with it, buy a thicker mat rather than this as it will be more comfortable overall. Some may not be willing to pay the relatively high price for what is just under 1kg of rubber but I do believe that you get what you pay for. Size in my hand luggage is my premium and this allows me to travel with my yoga kit without too much of a compromise. Also, I like to think that I am buying the most eco friendly I can (in the UK) and I'll pay more for that. The success of light weight travel is to travel with less but higher quality kit. this fits the bill perfectly.I imagine this lasting a good amount of time from its quality so very pleased with this purchase.

No padding, which is fine, because that is not why I bought this mat...I bought it for travel (ability to roll it up and cram it into my backpack), and it is a great travel mat -- it takes up some space, but that should be expected. My 4-start review is because of "slip". I have used this mat in studios (I do medium warm temperature vinyasa yoga -- C2 for you Core Power People) numerous times when traveling and it becomes a bit slippy when I sweat (so much that I need to use a towel for my hands). My comparison is with the Manduka Black Mat Pro (tons of padding, but eventually need a towel for "slip") and the Lululemon "The Mat" (great for grip, ok for padding) -- both of these are *not* travel mats,so I don't know how the Manduka Travel Mat compares to other *actual* travel mats. But, I am happy that I bought this as a travel mat...I would't use this for my daily practice (would rather lug the heavy, padded "Pro" or the sticky "The Mat"), but when on the road, I like having something more mat-like (than a towel) and more portable (than the aforementioned mats) to continue my yoga practice.

I'm really liking this mat! I'm the type that enjoys feeling really grounded during my practice, so my mat tends to really only exist for traction (otherwise I'd practice straight on the floor)...in that respect, it gets 5 stars -- this is like having no mat at all. It both folds and rolls beautifully, and has been awesome to travel with. I gave it 4 stars for a couple of reasons:- This mat has pretty good stickiness, but depending on the practice I do find myself wiping my hands once or twice during downward dog- It does bunch a little, but not excessively (I have to do a little straightening after an Ashtanga jump-though,but that's mostly because I'm awful at them and catch my feet on the mat)I see people have mentioned the smell but I actually kind of like it! I let it air outside for a whole day when I first got it, and now honestly all I smell is just a very faint whiff of what I can only describe as a "light cinnamon-y" smell when I'm in chaturanga, but every nose is different so YMMV. I do spray it down with Aurorae mat wash after every practice so that may have helped too.

It was hard to decide on a rating for this, as there are some things about it I don't like, but I've come to the conclusion that for it's purposes, this is probably as good as it gets. The mat really does fold up nicely, and is easy to lay in the bottom of my suitcase. I've left it folded for a number of days at a time, and it still lays flat which is hugely important. Even rolled up, it still unrolls and lays flat, which is often a problem with thin things that roll out.The stickyness if hit and miss for me - if you sweat alot, you'll probably want a mat towel too.The thinness has some trade offs. There's no cushion in this, so if you want that, look elsewhere. My biggest issue (and again,I don't see any way around it, so it's just, like I said, a tradeoff) is that when using it on carpet, because of the pliableness of it, the mat will wrinkle and pull together, because of the carpet moving underneath it.Overall, if you're looking for a mat to travel with, and space is limited, this is an excellent purchase.

I bought this mat for a three week Californian road trip, as I wanted a mat that would fold in my suitcase. I am so glad I did, as I ended up using it nearly every day. It it thin of course but can be paired with a towel for sensitive knees/headstands etc. It has a great grip, looks nice and has NO toxic smell at all. All natural.I now use it on top of the studio I go to close to work, on top of their studio mats. Again it is perfect, I get to use my own mat, with the benefits of guaranteed grip, additional cushioning and of course hygiene, without having to lug a massive mat around every day.I leave my mat at the studio (they have a great service for this)but it would fold into a small hold all /bigger handbag otherwise and it would be easy to bring every day.Highly recommended. Manduka mats are by far the best in my opinion (I have also tried Lululemon and LIfeforme)

This is perfect if you are on the go or like to travel. I bought it to throw in my school backpack and to use over a rented mat at a Bikram studio. The thought of laying on a mat that had someone else sweat soaked into it kinda gave me the hebegebes. This worked perfectly. It did a wonderful job a blocking the sweat from soaking up, and my sweat from soaking down into the rented mat. Someone complained about the smell. The smell was a bit strong when I first received it, but I aired it out for a couple days and it wasn't even noticeable. A year and a half later, there is definitely no smell accompanying this mat. I regularly clean it taking it into my shower and using some Dr.Bronners and warm water to wash it down. I wipe it with a sponge then hang it to dry.Note: This mat is thin, it is meant to be that way. You are sacrificing cushion for weight and size.

I took this yoga mat with me when traveling the last two weeks. It fit very well as the last thing in my roller bag. It is great. Because it folds I don't have to worry about hotel carpet being on the sticky side of the mat. Which is really sticky! I love it, it handled all of my morning Ashtanga yoga practice with ease. It is very thin which means it is perfect for on top of the carpet, probably not the best on top of the hard wood floor. It does have a very strong smell when you first get it. So it had to sit out for a week to air out. The smell did dissipate though. As other reviews have noted it does fold small, but it is about two inches high and very dense when it is.Making it hard to slide things in and out of your bag. I love it and I am certain it will be in all of my carry-ons in the future

Manduka's a big name in the world of yoga mats and you can tell from the quality of the mat. It's much lighter and thinner than most mats which makes it very portable. It can even be folded up which makes carrying it in a bag very easy. Just unfold it and you can start using it straight away. As it's ultra thin, you don't get much cushioning from it. Using this mat on a carpeted floor is very different from using it on a hard floor as a hard floor will provide zero cushioning. It is very grippy and at times I've unintentionally dragged it mid-practise so it bunches slightly and needs straightening out. It's not a big deal, though, and it's a characteristic you get used to. Overall,I'm very happy with this as a travel mat or to use on top of shared studio mats.

I use Manduka's heavily cushioned eKO mat for everyday use at home. This very lightweight travel map is--weight-wise--exactly what I was looking for for travel. Also I liked that the dye used on this mat doesn't rub off or transfer like the plum colored, heavy duty mat I use at home. Docked one star because 1) it offers zero cushioning for points of contact (but I expected as much from a lightweight travel mat)--so, no, I wouldn't recommend this mat for use at home or during your favorite intensive yoga class, but for suitcase travel this mat meets my needs and 2) Manduka's products are always a bit over priced, in my opinion.

This mat folds up into my carry on or backpack, making it perfect for travel. At home, I store it rolled up to avoid long term creases. It’s super lightweight, and surprisingly grippy. Comparable to my manduka prolite mat, it’s less cushy (to be expected for a travel mat, so no issue there) but I think the grip is actually better. No slipping even for someone who gets pretty sweaty during a flow. I expect it to last a really long time given the manduka quality. Amazon prices made this a great deal! Highly recommend for any traveling yogi, or someone who doesn’t want to commute around with a super heavy mat.

Yes! First travel yoga mat that I actually take with me on travel. It has a good grip, good size, and it's pretty lightweight. I also use it at home over a thicker mat because I enjoy the grip it gives me more than my usual mat. When it arrived, it was smelling of rubber, as many other people report. I did not have a large problem with that - I let it hang out overnight and the smell was mostly gone. After a week I did not smell it anymore at all. The color is deeper than I expected from the picture. One has to clean it often though - the good grip means it grips on all dust and cat hair pretty well too.

I fold this up into my backpack, bring it camping, bring it on vacation, it is amazing to have a sticky yoga mat that can go wherever I can. It is not going to provide as much cushion as a regular yoga mat when you are doing poses on the ground. I also thought it might be nice to practice on the beach one morning and this mat was digging into the sand with my feet and hands. It is wise to keep in mind the different ways that a very flexible mat will react to the environment in which you plan to use it - it is not perfect in all circumstances. However, it is super light and easy to pack, and I love it.

I took this on a journey to practice in India, and its holding up well. The smell doesnt bother me, but it might for some people. But I also haven't given it a real good washing yet. I do have to put something under it. It is realllllllly thin. So I am using plush local sticky mats for the under layer and this on top. Its pretty grippy to the point that sometimes my feet catch! Still have to work it in for when it gets sweaty, because its still in its slippery stage. I hear that goes away within a few weeks of wear. The size can scrunch up into my backpack. Pretty good!

This is a great travel mat! I was able to fold it to fit in my backpack as a personal item (not a carry on!) and it really did not take up much space and was not super heavy. It was a bit creased once I got to my destination, but quickly went back to normal after leaving it rolled up. As for usability, it was really sticky which was nice, and the thinness really didn’t bother me too much. I would say I wish it stuck to the floor a little better and it does have a strong rubber smell the first few uses, but overall for the quality I’m very pleased with this purchase.

I bought this mat to take with me on business trips after one too many gross hotel room floor experiences. It was a little awkward to fold at first but I have gotten the hang of it now. It fits perfectly in the bottom of my carry-on (both a roller bag and an over the shoulder bag) and doesn’t add too much weight. This mat doesn’t offer much cushion but it does stop me from sliding all over the place like I used to on towels. If you need some cushion for say, your knees, I would recommend grabbing a face/hand towel and keeping it next to you while you practice.
