Having already used a Mamma & Pappas Morph, a Little Life Ultralight and my wife having loved using a cloth wrap, the Manduca felt amazing. In the shop we bought it from I was able to turn, bend, even do my shoe laces up with my two year old on my back, such that a couple next to us trying on a Baby Bjorn said they wanted to try it after we'd finished, given how much mobility I had. Going back to the Ultralight, which had previously seemed comfortable, felt like my centre of gravity was a foot behind. For carrying a baby on the front, it's a doddle to put on. Clip the belt strap round, cuddle baby and pull the shoulder straps up. The weight distribution isn't to bad, and can feel a little constraining on your chest, though it's different for different genders; my wife has obviously carried the boys to birth and is used to having weight on her front, but she says the carrier can be restraining on her chest. Meanwhile I don't have as pronounced a chest, so the weight is on my shoulders, and the biggest issue is that babies legs kicking my thighs. For older children, clip the belt, rotate the carrier, then have them hold onto your back - like they're going to have a piggy back - and pull the carrier up. With two people, this is simple, and the biggest issue is that people just think you've got another rucksack on, and we've even been asked to take it off on public transport. The tricky part for me was going from front to back. With baby on your hip (left or right), you need to hold them while turning the carrier round to the back by manipulating the arm (left or right) to push them round. This can be awkward, and it baby doesn't always end up centred on your back, which can make it uncomfortable. It would be nice if there was an indication that they where centred. Likewise, when picking up the older boy, it is easy to get the carrier caught up under his bottom when pulling the straps on, which is uncomfortable for him and me.Even when we have a buggy, we take a carrier for times we might need to fold the buggy up and carry them, it's just really compact. We also have a Tula carrier, which is softer and feels slightly nicer, but it has a minimum 7kg, while the Manduca is more use for baby to toddler, so our youngest goes in the Manduca, his brother tends to be in the Tula, and both fall fast asleep. We've had countless trips where he's drifted off on our backs and we've had to sit slightly forward on a train seat to not squash him too much.

We tried several "top" brands and a few in-between. It depends what your looking for in a baby harness really but our key deciding factor was that it had to be user friendly to put on when it's just you and baby. The other is that it has to be comfortable for baby & user alike, and simple to use.If you have a baby boy it's hugely important that you get the right harness. He has to sit in it without any of the structure supporting his weight between the legs - very important you get this right for obvious health related reasons. For a girl it's not such an important factor but worth considering as a comfort view. The Manduca harness is easy to use, easy to put baby into and strap your baby safely and healthily for baby and you.Think of it as a rucksack in the way it's been designed. Any good rucksack will have a belt that will carry the bulk of the weight on your hips. This is exactly what the Manduca does. The straps are easy to locate and put on. You have various choices' but for a newborn crossing them over your shoulders is the best and most secure way to do it. Your baby sits in it quite happily and there are no straps through the legs or around the baby itself, a simple but excellent design. Your baby is held against your chest and it's head is around your sternum level so it's easy to see their little face. Our little boy loves it and goes to sleep readily in it - leaving you to go about your business round the house or go for a walk where a pram is not the practical option if the terrain is rough/bumpy.The Manduca harness is quite expensive and will put most people off. Personally, we felt it was worth the extra money and having bought several others and returned them due to being uncomfortable, difficult to use if your on your own and not being baby-friendly with regards to the baby's health - especially for a little boy!It doubles up to a child carrier and we've found it to be more than adequate in terms of it's durability and sturdiness - quality in a nutshell. It negates having to buy a child "rucksack-type" carrier as you baby grows up and should last you from newborn to 5 years old. We're very happy with ours and would recommend it to friends or family quite happily. You get what you pay for at the end of the day. Cheap is not cheerful with baby carriers.

I've tried 2 other types of carriers and different slings (wrap and ring both) to carry my baby in. Since I'm tall and slim I've got narrow shoulders so I've been struggling with too bulky shoulder straps and and fabric sliding off my shoulder. The first time I put my baby in this one he was about 4 months old. Having carried him in slings before I was gutted that he hated it. The sling itself is made of a soft fabric, there's nothing stiff about it - I had problem with both previous carriers with this. It's also easy to put on. I put it back in the box for later use and I got it out the other day. My baby's now nearly 5 months and any time I put him in it he was looking around and eventually dosed off. He's over 7 kg but I don't have yet got a back ache. It also feels that the waist belt is giving my back a massive support. The clip holding the shoulder straps at the back is tricky to clip in and adjust, I have long arms but I spent good 10 minutes trying to reach it and fasten it like dog chasing its tail. But once it's done it definitely eliminates the urge of having to lean a bit back to hold the baby safely.I don't have much experience with carriers as I've said but I can clearly see the way the baby is pretty much sitting in it, with hips in a nice M shape as they should be in. It also feels nice and firm for baby's back.I ordered some teething pads, not the same make as I found them a bit pricey ( and you pay quite a sum for the carrier anyway ... Ehm, ehm) but I find that just plain pads for car seats and stuff do the same job. Will see how they get used up as baby's definitely chewing on the straps pretty much right away.Overall, I'm happy I kept the carrier, hope I'll get some good use out of it over the years.

You couldn't go too far wrong with this carrier, it offers excellent comfort and support and is fully adjustable allowing the wearer to tweak the fit for maximum comfort. The waist belt goes from very small to very large so it would fit everyone from the petite women to the larger man with no extra bits and bobs to add on. The waist padding is very sturdy and for those of us with a bit of the baby belly left over there is more padding around the waist strap across your front in a back carry than with other similar carriers I have tried which is much more flattering than a webbing strap. The carrier is relatively easy to use but some users bay find the main waist clip a bit fiddly to undo as it has a safety button which must be pressed to get it undone. My husband was unable to use this in a front carry as he was not flexible enough to reach over to his upper back to do up the 'chest' belt, but you can cross the straps over instead if this is an issue. There is a zip across the upper part of the body panel which can be unzipped to lengthen the body. This is useful for getting a full snuggle position with a younger baby and of course for a bigger child, but as the carrier is on the narrow side it may not go knee to knee on a large toddler although this carrier does go up higher than most in the maximum weight range. If you ar tempted to get a Baby Bjorn type carrier please consider this instead, it is a much better carrier, comes in a range of colours and offers a much healthier carrying position for the baby and parent.

I cannot rave enough about this carrier! I bought it for my third daughter who was an extremely fussy baby. I couldn't really put her down during the day, but she was always happy and settled in the Manduca - I was comfortable too - even though she was 98th percentile on the height and weight charts!I bought the Manduca when she was about 3 months old -I was getting frustrated with the Moby wrap - as she grew, it seemed to stretch during use and I was forever having to re-tie it. The Manduca, by contrast, was easy to put on and take off, and the two sets of buckles are genius, allowing you to fine-tune the fit of the carrier easily once the baby is 'on board'.By this age,my daughter was big enough to use the carrier without the newborn insert, so I can't comment on that feature.I used to carry her in it whilst pushing my (lazy) 3 year old and 2 year old in a double buggy 'off road' on daily hour-long dog walks. So it is very comfortable!I just love it! It washes easily and dries quickly. The fabric is very natural-looking, soft, breathable and lightweight ( I tried my friend's Ergo carrier before buying this, and that was made from a much more bulky / heavyweight /stiff fabric.I have recommended it to a few friends, all of whom have also been impressed! Honestly, my daughter didn't travel in a buggy until she was about a year old, we were both so happy with the carrier! Best money you'll ever spend on a baby product!

I bought this for my first baby when she was about 4 months old and am still using it for her at 2 and a 1/2 as well as for her sister. The waist and shoulder straps have a wide range of adjustment making it easy for people with different builds to all use. I have lent this carrier to many people to use with different body types, short, thin, tall, heavy and all of them have found it easy to adjust and comfortable to wear. I have washed it in the washing machine a few times and it held up fine but I would recommend doing it regularly and spot cleaning is usually good enough. The built in infant insert is a simple snap job but stays in place securely.I have used it for back and front carries but only tried side once as not my favourite position. It was comfortable in both positions as well as fairly trivial to switch between the two. If adjusted correctly, even an older child feels lighter than some backpacks and can be carried on hikes or for most of the day without causing pain or discomfort. The fold away hood is useful for when sleeping or to keep sun off but unless you are super flexible you will not be able to get it out of the storage section yourself when child is on your back. I just leave it out if the pouch hanging down the back of the carrier as it is still fully attached it is just not tucked away neatly and then I can reach it on my own. A fantastic buy and we'll worth the investment

After a few weeks of trying to get used to the manduca I still regret my purchase.I try it 2 - 3 times a day as I have dogs to walk and my baby only naps in a carrier during the day.I can safely the newborn flap is awful to use. My baby still screams whilst I struggle to fasten the press studs. She is 4 months old and still requires it - otherwise she is doing the splits. The only front carrying position that is comfy is by crossing the straps at the back once you have put the baby in. This is really awkward to find a dangling strap behind you whilst holding onto a screaming squirming baby.Crossing straps prior to use put all the weight behind my neck.Using straps not crossed placed too much pressure on my shoulders.I cannot comment on back carry because I haven't used it like that yet.Side carry is fun for round the house but is not stable enough to do an activy e.g. cooking.I chose manuda because I wanted a carrier that was quick to use because I get out of my car in rain and wind and to get baby in the carrier quickly to keep her warm and dry. However it is not quick, it is awkwawrd, fiddly and not fun!I find it quite hit and miss in terms of comfort. Sometimes I can wear it for 2 hours and baby feels light asa afeather and she has no marks on her where it could press. Other times I am in agony after 10 minutes and she has red marks on her thighs despite using newborn flap.

Wow, what a difference a proper carrier makes! I have not one but two baby bjorns because the first one was breaking my back so I opted to buy a new one with a bit more support in the back. It was still very sore and after a short amount of time I would feel tired and achey in my shoulders and lower back. My baby who by now is 9 months old and over 10 kg also seemed to be uncomfortable. I love the freedom of baby-wearing and not having to go around with the pram (I live in Italy and the sidewalks and alleys are anything but pram-friendly!) but I was just in so much pain with the BBjorn. Last week I ordered the Manduca, a soft structured baby carrier that allows me to wear my baby in front,on my back, or on my hip. I love it! It feels like heaven in comparison! The belt clips snugly around my waist and takes a lot of the pressure off of my shoulders. I can't say that it is like carrying nothing, after a while it still gets heavy, but it is another galaxy from the BBjorn! And my little guy absolutely LOVES being on my back like a wee monkey. I highly recommend this carrier, it is soft and light and a lot of fun to wear. The only thing I am concerned about is that I think it would be too hot in the summer (like I say, I live in Italy). good luck and happy baby wearing!

Very pleased with this. Used for 5 month old girl. Carried her on walks in lake district for 3-4 hours at a time and very comfortable.I struggled with other carriers including wrap slings where the weight is more in your shoulders as I'm quite tall and thin and must have weak shoulders, couldn't manage more than 10 mins carrying with other carriers.Baby also seemed happy and will fall asleep in it if she's grizzling everywhere else so a useful tool at home too!Haven't tried her on my back yet, but imagine this should be even more comfortable as that position is even more ergonomic. What I will say is, make sure you adjust it and practice,as I found if you tighten the shoulder straps too much then you end up taking too much weight through the shoulders which defeats the object of the carrier. You need to sit the baby so their weight is on your hips, so the hip strap needs to sit over the bony part of your hips not above it (it digs in if you position this wrong).the zip across the front to extend the length of the carrier is very useful and means you can bring carrier up behind baby's head as they fall asleep.

Fantastic. I love the colour and being able to have the hood tucked away. I carry my 1 and 3 year old children in it easily.(I used other slings from birth – but wished I’d got this one first). I have a bad back and am tall but it adjusts and sits beautifully on me and my children are comfortable (and fall asleep in it!). Cheaper than other brands of baby carriers. Great for the school run; having contact/hug time with me and easier to transport than a buggy! A lifesaver for any babies with colic/reflux and their parents.Update:4 years later...my children loved being in the sling, but are now too heavy for it :-( I cannot recommend this sling highly enough - it was the best piece of kit I bought.Despite my bad back I have been able to carry my kids easily and without causing or aggravating my back pain. We went out in snow, rain and sun; we went to loads of places where a buggy would not have coped, and because I could roll it up in my bag it enabled many a walk/shopping trip etc to end happily. Brilliant product - Love it.

Excellent buy for me. My son is on the heavy weight size at 9 kg, and with my petite frame it takes all the weight of my back. I usually use it on the side as I can put it on very easily and I put my son on it in and out of the car without any help, it is that easy... i use it while shoping and doing light chores at home without feeling the strength. I've preset the size of the straps with my husband and marked them with a pen, so I just need to put it on without the need of adjusting once baby is in it. I never wear it on the front as my son feels restricted and tries to wiggles out Of it and I can't wear it on the back without help as my son is heavy and move and kick a lot. However when I do wear it on my back for long walk in country side or more intense chores or cooking at home, it is again very comfy for me and baby but I do need help to held my wiggling baby when using the carrier on the back. I easily revert to the side position as I"ve marked the strap setting with a pen.

Bought this for my large 10 month old who would no longer fit in the baby bjorn, and because I wanted something more comfortable and ergonomic than a narrow based carrier. Considered the ergo too but chose this because the shoulder straps can be crossed around your back when doing a front carry- a must if you're narrow shouldered to prevent the shoulder straps from constantly falling down! The only negative I've found is that it can be fiddly to put on and take off quickly, and as I use it to deliver and collect my son from nursery it took a while to get used to doing quick transfers. Even now, I need a mirror to help me locate the buckles and I often get nursery staff to help me secure it.In this respect the old style baby bjorn is much better, as it secures at the sides around baby's torso and you can easily see what you are doing. But in comfort terms, this is far superior, and if you are able to secure baby into the carrier at home it won't be an issue.

In 18 years I have had 4 kids I have tried a few slings which never lasted long, 9 years ago I had the dreaded crotch dangler, baby bjorn , but I didn't know any better but by 6 months it's just a waste of money, this time my last, I tried a few carriers but even tho the baby wraps looks great they just didn't work for my back, now I did spot the ergo carrier 1st before this, but went for this as straps are a bit longer for a bigger person, now even tho this costs more than a baby bjorn it will last a lot longer than one, it is more comfortable than a baby bjorn, face forward is a no no and is bad for your baby, but this does a hip carry that won me over the most, now if I'm doing the school run she can have a good look around, she is 10 months old and I don't feel her, while I carry her, as all in the hips, still going to take me awhile to get these straps the way I want, but best buy I wish I had this 18 years ago, never mind 10 months ago...

I purchased this carrier hoping it would be comfortable and lightweight. It is easy to put on, the safety feature on the belt buckle gives extra security and the built-in infant seat allows you to use it from birth. The padding on the straps and in the waist belt is excellent, although I was hoping for a better back support system to alleviate pressure on shoulders, I guess it just takes time to get used to carrying baby and using certain muscles in your back to hold her up! For now my carrying is limited to short walks in town, but once baby is old enough to be carried on the back I believe this will change.ONE THING: do get the teething pads as accessories,my baby immediately started suckling on the straps as soon as she was in the carrier, so the pads are the single accessory worth buying. I go the Ergo ones since they are cotton and not fleece as the Fumbees.Baby appears to be comfortable in the carrier and falls asleep easily.

This is a brilliant all round carrier.I bought it as my little one is now 25lbs and I can't carry him on my front any more, but the structured rucksack carriers make him too heavy for me themselves.Having used a jersey wrap, BabaSling, Bjorn Original, Bjorn Miracle and a homemade Mai Tai I can heartily recommend this one as one of the best. I think for a newborn, the Bjorn or a jersey wrap might be better, but for a slightly older baby I think this would be the best buy. It's worn front, back or hip and I can barely feel my toddler's weight now when he's on my back.It claims to carry a child up to around age 5, though I think my knees will have given up before that becomes relevant!Very good carrier: good value, comfortable for parent and tot and bundles up nicely for putting in bag, car or buggy.
