Absolutely incredible for the price, the suspension has an incredible amount of travel and and allows the crawler to climb over objects and navigate terrain you would never expect it to.The crawler has individual motors in each axle allowing for full time independent 4 wheel drive and optimum grip at all times. The crawler can get up amazingly steep hills, especially when there is sufficient grip.Obviously it has it's limits, due to its small stature it will inevitably become stranded on top of bigger rocks and it's lack of mass sometimes limits it's ability to climb very steep hills, especially when there's grass or mud to contend with, there's just not enough weight on the wheels to get traction.Other times when grip is sufficient but the slope is incredibly steep or you try to go uphill through grass and mud the motors can stall but the limits where all of these things occur are so far beyond where you would expect it's ridiculous, you literally won't believe what such a cheap toy can pull off.The good news doesn't stop there either, the truck runs on conventional AA batteries, this can be a major limitation for bigger models but makes a whole lot of sense for this little crawler. Some toy grade models have tiny lipo battery packs in an attempt to look more grown up and professional but with only 700mah stated capacity they tend to run flat after only 20 minutes or so. For a toy grade model AA batteries are a much better choice and with a set of modest 1900mah Sanyo Eneloops this truck will run for an incredible 1.5 hours before exhibiting signs of slowing down, with some 2500mah Eneloop pros you may push 2 hours.Obviously with bigger models that have much more powerful motors that draw high currents lipo power is a must and those kind of motors would ruin nimh AA cells but for toy grade models, especially ones like this with small and slow turning motors lipo packs are just unecessary. You'll have a much better time with a model that uses regular AA cells. You really would not believe the kind of terrain this truck will happily navigate, especially when you bear in mind that it's both tiny and costs less than a Chinese takeaway (£16 at time of review)Yes, it's a bit slow but this thing is geared for torque not speed and yes the turning circle is a little on the big side but this is designed for outdoor use where it's less of an issue. You really couldn't expect better for the money, just abut one of the cheapest RC models out there and it performs better than some costing 2-3x as much. I use it all the time when I go for walks, especially with my young daughter who has fantastic fun. With a couple of sets of AA batteries you'll get 3 hours out of it at least. For the money it cannot be faulted and thanks to the decison to use AA batteries you can get hours of use out of it rather than 15-20 minutes that you'll get from some similar models that insist on using lipo packs unnecessarily.

This product was bought for my 4 year old son, and is reviewed as such.My son had started to enjoy watching RC vehicles of all types on the internet, so I wanted to get a fairly cheap toy for him to play about with to see if he liked them. The Maisto Rock crawler arrived promptly and after simple battery insertion was ready to go out of the box.It was played with inside mostly, and I have to say the suspension travel was really quite impressive, and easily dealt with objects around half its tyre height thrown in its way. Anything higher and the Rock Crawler tended to tip over, but that may also be our less than stellar driving skills causing that.It isn't that fast that it is uncontrollable, but its not frustratingly slow either! The crawler does have a pretty meager turning circle, but my youngster tended to just drive it full force forward over objects so that wasnt really an issue. It also has 4 wheel drive, and impressively did manage to climb all the way up a 2 meter glossy plank of wood at a 45 degree angle! I don't know how much good that did the motors but the inflated style tyres slipped and gripped all the way to the top multiple times!Overall, both myself and my son were pretty pleased with the Rock Crawler as an introduction to the world of RC, although I would perhaps keep young children supervised when playing with it!

I bought this for my son's third birthday after spending a considerable amount of time looking at different models and features. This is a great, small, robust car with your classic two lever control (forward/backward, left/right), which is what I wanted - I'd prefer him to struggle slightly with it at first and learn. He loves driving it around the house, it's light, so crashing it into skirting boards and kitchen cupboards doesn't do any damage. And it works brilliantly outside as well. He's getting the hang of using both directions at the same time, and I can see this being a favourite toy for many years. At such a great price,I'm definitely glad I went for this one!It would definitely be appropriate for older children as well - it's just your standard radio controlled car!

We took a risk on this last Christmas for our four year old who wanted a remote control car. He struggled with it at frst but didn't lose interest and got the hang of it after a while. I was impressed with the quality for the price - it really is everything you need in a remote controlled car for a young kid. I was particularly glad that it enjoyed a lot of air-time over the summer with his friends on the street (even more so when they realised their remotes controled each other's cars).. It still comes out regularly and now his younger brother is taking an interest (though since he can't really figure it out I would say not really suited for kids less than four).

This is a kids toy not a serious RC model (you probably guessed that from the price) but for the money it's simply brilliant. It's not fast but when it's being controlled by a 4 year old you don't want fast. It will run over most terrain and fairly large obstacles. The controls are straightforward and my kids got the hang of it fairly quickly. It was the biggest hit of Christmas day and they spent hours driving it over everything (sorry baby Jesus :-( ). If you're looking for an RC toy for a young child, 3 to about 7 or 8, then this is a great choice.

I bought this because our 2 year old's older brother was getting a RC car (a different one so frequencies didn't clash) and we didn't want fighting over it. It's exceeded expectations and is great fun. Yeah the turning circle is pretty massive and it's not super fast, but it's still fun and seems pretty robust, our little one can control it and everyone is happy. Battery life is great, well over an hour (get decent batteries). It climbs up and over stuff, drives around the grass and mud. For the price I'm delighted and happy to recommend.

Both my boys love this car (aged 4 and 7) and it is easy for them to steer. Also works well climbing over obstacles. The only problem is that I bought them one each and they are on the same frequency so both cars work when just one remote is being used - so they can't use them together : (I can't even return them as it took us about an hour to notice and I had binned the boxes by then (we thought our youngest was just struggling with the controls!)Real shame as we were hoping they would be able to race them together.

Great little car, bought for my 3yo and would say for younger children as does move pretty slowly. Turning circle is pretty big, but thats fine especially outdoors. 4wd aspect is excellent, it rocks itself well over quite large obstacles. Batteries have lasted quite well (i use rechargeables). The wires sticking out of the units seem a little fragile so make sure your little one doesnt pick up the car or remote by the wire, they pull out pretty easily, although unit still works so far with wire having been broken off.

For my 5yr old - fantastic entertainment and value. Agree with the more detailed reviews about it's capabilities. Anything bigger than half it's height and it flips but this just seems to add to the fun and once upside down it can spin round and round. I (and my 5yr old) personally think it's pretty fast (coming up from baby Thomas tank and Peppa Pig rc vehicles) - not sure what kind of speeds others are expecting.

I bought this for my nearly 7y old son in NZ at more than twice this price and it was worth it. It is amazing over rocks so we take it on walks to the climbing crag and my son builds courses for it. It often rights itself on a tumble and can get over rocks its own size because it is so articulated. It's not going to win races but that's not what it's built for. It's a perfect first RC and a heap of fun.

Great little car. The son loves it... And so does the dad...4WD and soft rubber tyres means it happily climbs over obstacles brilliantly. It also seems fairly robust and had survived a fair bit of abuse already! The remote control unit feels a little cheap but is easy to use by a 4 year and robust. For the price, this is a great r/c off roader.

Bought for my 3 year old son for Christmas. It's not the speediest but I was really impressed with how much it can crawl over. Even my unmowed lawn was no match for it! Batteries are still going as well so it seems pretty efficient on that front. Although my skirting boards would probably disagree, this is a nice little purchase for the price.

This little truck is a perfect first RC car, it is powerful yet not too fast so it drives easily on carpet and is controllabl. I watched it bounce down the stairs and feared it was going to break but the build quality is such that it survived without a scratch. It is also great at scrambling over obstacles, youtube it and see for yourself.

It's OK and as good as can be expected for the money. Simple to use and appears robust; but it is slow and small, so it's more of a pebble crawler than a rock crawler. My three and six year old love taking turns to control it, but it would probably be too limited for children much older.

Absolutely brilliant, my little boy has been playing with his truck for months now and it's still going strong. As we're getting closer to winter, I'm going to open it up and waterproof the electronics for him so he can go through water.Fantastic for the price, can't go wrong.
