I've owned MagLites all my life and have experimented with smaller LED torches, however just dont find that they feel as secure as the trusty olé MagLite! The Maglites are functional as they either take AAA, AA, C or D size batteries and luckily these batteries are readily available! These batteries especially the larger batteries add quiet a lot of weight to the torch alone and do make the torch much much heavier than anything else I own. However this weight is a quality that non other can reproduce! The aluminium that Mag entrust is of aircraft quality and I have had not one issue with corrosion or failure of the threads or body parts. The latest Mag I purchased is the 2D Incandescent in Gray, and the standard bulb was the first thing to be thrown (not even kept as a spare!) thats how bad the light output is. These were replaced with the NiteIze LED upgrade bulbs, the 1Watt as the main light and the poorer performance bulb as the spare in the tail cap. The Maglite now has slightly better performance, 'slightly being' whiter light with possibly 20% more distance but still suffers the black hole issue with the reflector as you adjust. The LED upgrade gives you about 3 times more battery life and is just a good all round upgrade compared to the incandescent bulb, I have even tried other bulbs that promise 'whiter' light to no avail! The torch still has the generic rubber switch, I wish Maglite would change this to a metal switch like on the tailcap's on a Led Lenser, the rubber eventually perishes and I have to constantly nourish it with silicone spray to stop it drying out. Otherwise the button assembly is bomb proof and I have never had any issues with it ever. The threads and fitting of the head (reflector) and the tail-cap, both have large rubber gaskets and very well machined threads. From factory there seems to be a 'bee spit's' worth of lubrication, so I wipe that off and put on a good quality PTFE based grease on the threads and some silicone spray on the gaskets to condition them. I find that there is a better water resistance created when I do this to my Mag's.Overall, the product is presented flawlessly. The Mag's anodizing (both exterior and interior on all parts) is beautiful and exterior kerneling is perfect. I wish that MagLite Industries would come out with optional accessories like a window breaker bezel or tail cap and some better optics that hug the bulb better that would reduce the 'black hole' issue, also a tempered glass / UV filtered bulb glass in the head. Some of these options or upgrades would make a Maglite more personalised and sentimental.Otherwise the Maglite is something that you buy once and just maintain it for years, keep it clean and serviceable and keep an eye on your batteries that they're not leaking and it will look after you when its needed!

Just bought this item to replace a 3 D-cell incandescent mag-lite that i've had forever. The old unit somehow developed a short that would blow out the bulb when you switched it on. I was mad that I tossed this out before realizing that it might be covered under the mag-lite warranty! I figured, such is life, and I bought this unit. I'm quite happy with it - almost to the point that I'm glad the old one broke! The light from this unit is incredibly bright, much brighter than my old incandescent unit. Just as the old unit's light was slightly "yellow" - not quite white, this unit's light has a slight blue tinge. I don't mind this at all. Did I mention that it is VERY BRIGHT?? :-)Don't stare into it - seriously! The beam r this unit can travel quite a distance. During an evening walk I was able to discern light in the branches of trees perhaps 160-180 yards away. This blows away the incandescent's capability. When focused ("spot light" mode), the unit casts a very bright, nearly perfectly round and solid white circle - no dark spot in the center. The only downside I see to the new unit is that when the beam is widened ("flood light" mode), it seems to me that the flood is not quite as bright as the incandescent. I'm OK with this, as I almost always use it either in spot light mode, or just slightly dispersed.Note however that the specs on the card in the package are different than what is posted with this item on Amazon. The Amazon stats are:22213cd, 298 meter beam, 9 hr 15 min battery life, 114 lumens, waterproof and survives a drop from 1 meterThe stats on the packing show:37567cd, 388 meter beam, 8 hr battery life, 134 lumens, waterproof and survives a drop from 1 meterThe mag-lite web site is no help either (I was trying to compare several models) - they post NO specs, saying "ANSI specs will be posted soon"I have posted a picture of the spec symbol strip on the packaging.

MagLites have been an industry staple for the last 20 years. In that time there have been few, if any changes. Moving into the 21st century it has become apparent that LED technology will be the new future for flashlights (if not al lights) and Maglite has quickly embraced this change.Pros-- 3 Watt LED (2 cell) has as much luminescence as the old three cell incandescent model. While I have yet to drain the batteries in the LED version my guess is that they will last significantly longer.- LED lights give you the ability to focus the beam to a point. Incandescent lights always give you the "Halo" effect due to the light emerging from a wire instead of a single point.- Well built -as you would expect from a MagLite this is one tough animal. We use it on a walk, just in case we need to give something an unforgiving "bop".- I haven't checked, but this unit should be essentially waterproof.Areas to improve-- The replacement bulb is incandescent. This may not be as big of a problem as it sounds. LED lights do not "burn" therefore they should last nearly a lifetime.Final tally, this is a flashlight that you will likely pass on to your children. While you may have to replace the batteries every few years this is as low maintenance item as you will ever buy.5 stars.

I bought one of these back in 2013 and I have just ordered a second. Please note the original torch is still working perfectly, I am just so impressed with it that I felt I needed one for upstairs.Don't be put off by the fact that this has a single LED, it is very, very bright. The focus on the beam is also adjustable so that you can have anything from a near spotlight to a fairly wide beam. The packaging says the beam will go 388 metres. I don't know if this is true and I don't really have any way of testing it but on the tight focus I can certainly shine a light on nearby trees and houses so it must be going at least 100m.This torch feels very sturdy; it has a metal casing with a purposely roughened area so that you won't lose your grip in the wet.In spite of that, it has survived me dropping it without even a scratch. If anything, at 665g, it is possibly a little too heavy for prolonged use but apart from that, I can think of nothing to criticize. It uses two 'D' cell batteries. Mine are still going strong after three years but in fairness I don't use the torch very often. I suspect that at my current rate of use, the batteries will expire before the torch drains them. All in all, if you want a very good, bright torch then buy this one.

I was skeptical of purchasing this flashlight because it uses only two D cells instead of the old 4 D cell that I'm used to, but I am pleasantly surprised. Even though I've read from other reviewers that its not as bright as they'd hoped, it is significantly brighter than my 100 lumen Fenix that I purchased last year. While there are brighter, smaller flashlights out there, they do not last for more than an hour or two. This baby has lasted me over night on a single set of batteries and was still shining bright. Two other issues I've seen on other reviews: Not as 'white' as desired, and and someone stated that there was a 'hole' that showed up between the LED beams. The white is pretty white, more so than my smaller LED's, and the beams are adjustable just like the old incandescence version. A simple twist changes it from a wide scattered - but still bright - beam, to a very sharp laser-like beam.I would have spent much more money for this performance, so at this price its a no brainer. Classic style with wonderfully upgraded technology.

After I had a call from my dad complaining his 20 year old MAGLITE was faulty I went to see if I could fix it.. Upon solving the simple issue of cheap battery's from a £1 shop and installed some "copper coloured topped" batterys, It was working just as good the day it was new! This got me looking for a new torch... I looked at other good well reviewed torches like Fenix and LED Lenser etc etc...Was tempted but I kept thinking of my dads old MAGLITE still going strong and probably good for another 20 years.. I opted for the Maglite ST2D016 2D LED which still has the same solid build quality but with added brightness. I burrowed some used Duracell from my kids toys so MAGLITE isn't at full potential power ...This said i'm really impressed and happy I made the right choice buying a Maglite ST2D016 2D LED...My only concern is if your looking for a light torch then a MAGLITE D Cell is not for you ... The weight isn't and issue for me...There are less heavier MAGLITE's in the range.

It doesn't get much better than these, this Maglite flashlight just feels right in the hand and is built like a rock. I have multiple units, in varying sizes and colors, in different rooms of the house in case of losing power. additionally, I have a "pocket" Maglite for use on my job (i work as a sound technician and often need to explore pitch black racks filled with wires.). These flashlights are bright, you have the ability to focus them, and they are not battery hogs (which give the impression that they simply always work, which they pretty much do)they aren't cheap, but things that are built like this generally aren't at the bottom of the price scale. Essentially,it feels like the Rolex of flashlights - a solid, timeless design that has been proven with time. There are better, even more specialized units, ones that have more features, etc. This is the real deal -- when you handle it, you know it will last for decades and provide the same service as day one 25 years on.

This is sturdily built. The beam can be focused to a small bright white spot that can be useful to find a lost coin under a car seat. The intensity of the focused beam can temporally blind a person, who may keep still looking at you. But chances are that I will have no use for that situation. I will use this light on going to the backyard for a short time. OR... I can shine on a tiny thorn to pull out with a help of the tweezers. I am keeping it in my refrigerator to save the battery life. The item is said to be made in USA, which can be a little better assurance of the quality.UPDATE: Upgraded to 5 stars. Wow! I used this flashlight in the night to plant a 5 gallon plant in my back yard. You would not believe how good this thing is. There has never been a flash light in my life so bright and covers such large area. This is a must in any house hold. I am buying more for my family. I keep it in my refrigerator to prolong battery life.

after reading reviews decided on this torch, which I use to walk my dogs at night. It was a bit bigger than I first thought it was going to be, but is comfortable enough to hold. Even my wife uses it and she hasn't complained. It is extremely sturdy, I have dropped it several times even on tarmac & stone floors, with only a scratch to show for it. The light is fantastic, it is just like having a spot light in your hands, in pitch black you can clearly see 100 meters in front of you, my wife jokes that we can land planes. she used to be scared of coming out at night in the dark, but not any more. The lens adjustment I think is a bit gimmicky, I just tend to have it set on one setting. The batteries didn't last as long as I was expecting, I recon I only got about 15hrs before the light started to fade, but I will monitor the next set more closely. I would however recommend this torch to anyone who wants to see clearly at night.

Flashlights have some die hard enthusiasts, and I do not count myself among their ranks. I purchased this flashlight knowing that Maglite is generally the standard for powerful and rugged flashlights. This was my first LED flashlight and I am very impressed by the intensity of the light that it throws and the distance that it can throw it. I did notice that when you adjust the beam you do get some "rings" in the light, but they did not have any effect on the satisfaction I have with the light. It isn't anything much worse than the old bulb-based light I upgraded from. The unit is very solid and has some heft in it just like all Maglites do, which is something that I appreciate.I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this light to anyone who wants a good, solid flashlight and doesn't really care about spending a lot of money to get the best that money can buy.

This is the iconic flashlight. My father and grandfather both had Maglites when I was a boy, and they still use them. The all-aluminum construction means this thing can take a lot of abuse and still function perfectly. I own a number of versions, including a tiny AAA powered one, a AA powered one, and several variations of the D-powered one. This being the 2-cell flashlight, It's the small of the D battery line, as well as the lightest. Because it only uses 2 batteries, it won't last as long between battery changes as its larger brethren (and it doesn't seem as bright, but I have no scientific way of actually verifying that at the moment). However, it's easier to handle and carry, and the one I prefer to keep in the toolbox. This was only purchased because the previous one I owned seems to be on permanent loan to one of my children, and I need to keep mine handy.

This new LED 2D cell maglite is quite a find. The LED 2 D cell is brighter than the incandesent blub 2 D cell. Maglite had to go some way to improve on the old incandesent version of this flashlight and they accomplished it with this new flashlight.I bought my first maglite in the 1980's. I still have it. It is a rugged, dependable flashlight. It is a little beat up, but works everytime I use it. I expect it will out last me at some point. The LED provides a whiter, brigher light than the incadesent bulb. The LED has a redesigned reflector that provides more light from the LED. The reflector is much more conical shaped and longer than the reflector in the incandesent version. The battery tube is also redesigned. The tube is thinner or slimmer than the 1980's version I own. This is an improvement.I am very happy with my purchase and I would recommend it.

Careful when buying a Mag LED light. They change the LEDs but don't update the model numbers. You may not get what you expect. This Amazon ad shows that this light is 114 lumens with 298 meters max beam distance. That is old info based on the version of the light with the Rebel LED. Mag has since upgraded to the Cree XP-E LED in this light. (Not to be confused with the Mag-Lite Pro line, which has the Cree XP-G LED.)I ordered this light gambling on the fact that the Amazon ad info was out of date. I was correct. I received a newer version of the light. It's actual ANSI/NEMA FL-1 specs are as follows:Lumens: 134Max Beam Intensity: 37567 cdMax Beam Distance: 388 metersWhile Mag lights aren't anywhere near as bright as many of the current LED lights out there, they do have a well designed reflector, and the throw distance is EXCELLENT.

I've been looking for a better flashlight that won't eat batteries and is ready when you need it. My dad always had Maglites in about 3 different sizes. a little one in his tool box, a big one behind the seat and a medium in his boat box. They used to only have black and his always used to look a little dinged, scratched and chipped. That is because 'ol fumbles used to drop them down elevator shafts. Yeah, he worked on elevators. Ones in tall buildings. If he wanted to see all the way to the bottom, the Mag with Krypton bulb was the way to go he said. I always thought they would be 60, 80 or $100. Lucky me, I got this baby blue for a steal at $14!! Built like a battleship, yet lightweight and can take a beating.(Sounds like my ex-wife! just kidding) If you need a great flashlight and/or you are scared of the dark, buy this one.

I see all of these other flashlights that boast 10,000 lumens, but is it really? I don't need a flashlight that is so bright that it can set a piece of paper on fire or burn the retinas of passerbys. This flashlight is bright enough for what I need it for. I could see several hundred feet in front of me on the brightest setting. Also it's durable. I accidentally dropped it off of my back deck, about 15 feet high, and the flashlight landed on the patio, made of concrete. I thought it would have shattered, but it only made a small scratch on the top! Not as heavy as they used to be back in the day. However, they are durable and get the job done. Don't waste your money on other ones advertising tens of thousands of lumenz. This is the real deal and a great value for the price
