Software systems such as this are commonly known as DAWs (Digital Audio WorkStations). You get a screen where you compose your music and gives you 3 basic ways to do it.1) Recording audio into it (as with a sampler). 2) Playing the onboard synthesizers and programming the midi data to do that. 3) Dropping pre recorded loops of sounds into the time line. The product always comes with thousands of samples to get you started. So you can pick up a drum loop from the library (Soundpool) drop it in and away you go.In my experience you must have a fast powerful PC and a LOT of memory. Make sure you try to get way more than the minimum spec listed for the software.I've been using Magix in various flavours since 2009,however sudden changes in the layout or the purpose of function keys between versions has been jarring at times. This version is the cut down version from the pro so lacking some features. It is also limited to 8 stereo (or 16 mono) recording tracks. This version comes bundled with various synthesizers and instruments for midi use. All of this is expandable with plug-ins from Magix of various synths instruments, effects and loops. Also 3rd party modules (vst) can be download from all over the web legally (many for free) and dropped right into the system. Magix's own ASIO drivers seem better than the commonly used ASIO4ALL, this is an important factor if you want your Midi keyboard to trigger notes without a delay. If you’ve used Magix before you will adapt pretty quickly to this version, you can bang something together in a very short time but then spend hours honing, and sculpting for perfection. If you’re new to it though expect a learning curve.I have found some previous versions of Magix VERY crash prone, even blue screen of death level PC crashes and corruption of open projects. So I now save and keep a second back-up of my saves just in case. Music Maker 2016 was quite stable for me but with any of these editions trying to do too much at once can cause issues. My main advice is be very careful of making large adjustments to anything while the arrangement is playing. I will mainly be using this for access to the Cinematic Synth/Soundscapes and Choir vst programs which sound really great. Since I’m running various versions going right back to the 2009 Music Maker all with their own exclusive options I tend to perform and render certain virtual instruments within their respective programs then bring them into my most stable Music Maker Edition as audio tracks for final mastering so as not to stress out any of the programs too much. Honestly you can do multiple bounces, re records of wav files without any noticeable loss of audio quality to my ears. The major thing you have to be aware of with Magix and this is a HUGE issue, it's the licensing when it comes to using the Soundpool loops in your own projects for commercial purposes. There are severe restrictions on this related to the soundpools volumes from the mid teens upwards (they're in the 20s now). Anything you do with the onboard instruments and midi is fine but you have to buy licences to use the sound loops for commercial purposes (ie anything you make money out of). Making music for your wedding video or just making a tune and putting it on YouTube, that's fine. Making a CD and selling it, not allowed if you use soundpools unless you pay for the licence. This is so the performers who made the loops get some royalty out of it and I'm OK with that. So even though Magix may sell you a soundpool DVD for £25 you would have to buy a licence of nearly $200 (priced in Dollars) to use it professionally. To find the exact terms you have to go to Catooh.com find your soundpool collections or specific loops and look what licences they are offering and what the terms are for each depending on what you are planning to do with your music. You need to have an internet connection to run the software; Once a month it wants to contact base to stay active. If you use it offline it will warn you it needs to connect after a month but will deactivate if it can’t after a few more days. People have expressed concern over this, ie if you’ve paid it should not be deactivated ever. I investigated this when they first started it, Magix will not budge, it’s their way of combating piracy. Although I can’t find mention on the website at the moment in one of the forums they did state that once you reconnect to the internet you can reactivate the software, it’s not permanent. But if you run offline a lot you should be aware of this. You can download a free demo version from Magix. I strongly advise you do this on the PC or Laptop you intend to use to make sure there’s no weird hardware/software clashes that stop it installing/working for you since even though this isn’t the pro version it’s still a lot of money to risk blindly. However, when I have put in support requests to Magix they have always replied.Overall, you have to put in effort but the results are impressive.

There's a slight retro-vibe about Magix' Samplitude Music Studio, partly because the installer arrives on a DVD and partly because the user-interface looks a bit last-generation. The sounds and tunes it can produce can be as contemporary as you want them to be but you do have to take some time to get familiar with the over-complicated interface. There are too many features and options on show at one time which over-complicates things unnecessarily, especially if you're new to the app. You can configure the interface to suit yourself and there are some presets to choose from but it could still benefit from some interface pruning.Behind the scenes there are a suite of app's which together formyour music studio and mostly they play nicely with one another but you are aware of the fact that it's a collection of separate app's rather than a unified environment - there are too many separate windows which pop up as you work through the various features. As learning curves go this app's one is pretty steep and quite curved - if you're already familiar with DAW's you should find every feature you need in here but it might not always be obvious where. The sound it can produce is really good and the range of features available mean you can produce quite complex music and, with a bit of effort, dig down into the basics and build your sound from the ground up. If you just want to throw a few loops together and quickly assemble a backing track you can do that, although you don't get the most comprehensive collection of loops with this package and will have to source your own. However the package is more comprehensive and capable than that and could really produce some very professional sounding demoes or backing if you take the time to learn your way around. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it for absolute beginners even though the price is competitive, the over-fussy interface might put a lot of people off, but if you've already grasped the basics and want the next step up then it's a good choice.

I have previously used Music Maker – 2018 Premium Edition – The audio software with more sounds, instruments and creative options on laptops to produce my own music or use 3rd party samples. The installation is straight-forward enough, its possible you may need to update some additional window components to enable full functionality of the software. The usage of the music maker program itself is straight-forward, however dependent on level that you want to go to the exercise can range from shallow understanding or deep dive dependent on how much effort and usage you put into the software. There is the option to purchase additional samples through the program when this is up and running. There is a bit of a initial learning curve if you have not used this or similar software in the past, it is aimed at a particular audience. For first time users as stated there is a small learning curve. The results that you can produce with the music maker software is really very good, I use this as one tool of many. Sometimes I have dropped my music file into a video which i have manipulated and produced good results which I then have loaded onto you tube. I have very high specification laptop that I run this program on, older machines may experience some time lag when creating a finished music file, of course dependent on file length etc. The only other observation is that the product will need to be registered and if you experience any software issues be sure to log them with Magix for support, they will response. I consider this program software quite useful and relatively good value for money, I am happy with this.

This is an entry level suite into recording music at home or in a demo studio, PC only.Fifteen years ago, you would not have got this level of performance from studio staples Emagic Logic and Avid ProTools. Twenty five years ago, you could not have done the things this does without a major investment in electronics and a dedicated studio to keep them in. However, by today's standards, although the workflow is good, the supplied instruments and plugins are the essentials, rather than the extras. Think of it as a PC equivalent to Garage Band, although it does offer good scoring facilities. Can you record the next hit with this? Well, George Martin recorded Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band on much more rudimentary equipment. The real issue is that a studio is not just software, it's a recording space, microphones, speakers, sound treatment and a professional team. If you have the necessary skills, you can produce a good demo quality with this if you work your room carefully. It's also an ideal package to learn the basics of recording. Unfortunately, without ProTools experience, it probably won't land you that studio job.

If you are setting up an amateur recording studio at home probably the first thing you will need to choose, after a microphone, is a DAW. This one represents a good combination of price and quality and is a lot better than FL Studio. It is especially good for virtual instruments. It comes preloaded with several VSTis and they are very easy to set up. I have tried setting them up with three other DAWs and found them unreliable and painstaking at best. The note velocity and pitch bending are easy to work out.The recording interface is unusual and slightly off-putting (there is no razor tool and instead you have to use a key command to split the track)so I don't record in Samplitude but import a mixminus to build virtual instruments and export for mixing and mastering. It has occasionally crashed and can be temperamental but that is standard for DAWs. Save regularly because the backup function doesn't always work.

Bought for my OH who loves this. He is currently making up music for a panto he is in locally and is enjoying every second. He says this is not as intuitive as other programs he has used before but it is worth the effort to learn it as you can build up sound after sound which is brilliant. From my point of view it keeps him very quiet once I have persuaded him to put on his headphones while playing !!

A great little music studio that works a dream on Windows 10. I've always used audacity but this is so much more than just a basic sound recorder. It is very well written, easy for an amateur like me to use and was up and working within 20 minutes. Definitely would recommend.

This is a great recording program. Once you find your way around it, it is great. There are plenty of tutorials on line - on YouTube mainly. The midi instruments are superb. With a little time and effort you can make recording studio quality tracks. Highly recommended.

Fantastic value for money recording studio software. Midi instruments are well represented apart from modern keyboard chorus. Basic recording desk is easy to use depending on what you want from the software. Track editing could be easier
